For Type 2 Diabetes "I've been on and off Trulicity for over a year... (I am horrible with taking my diabetes meds). When I take Trulicity (especially if I have eaten way too much or not), I will feel nauseous. If I've eaten way too much food, I will first belch, then get an eggy type of belch that will be constant, then I will have stomach knots and eventually vomit. When the vomiting is done, I will have diarrhea. It definitely helped A1C go down. I take glipizide, metformin, and insulin with the Trulicity. There were times when I would work out in the morning, and my blood sugar would drop really low. If you overeat, Trulicity will make you sick. I had no idea that it could cause nodules in the thyroid (I had a biopsy done in 2016). Hope this helps."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I've been with Trulicity for 2 months now, and I have been getting severe abdominal pains, cramps, and gas, but the last weeks was a disaster! I have been vomiting and had diarrhea constantly! I ended up in a hospital for dehydration. Will never take Trulicity again!"

For Type 2 Diabetes "Took the drug for two weeks, got off before I lost the ability to walk. The first week I had major pain in my left knee and throwing up breakfast. The second week throwing up continued. The knee pain was not as intense, but my right foot developed pain, preventing me from walking more than 30 steps. Blood sugar readings showed no improvement, were running in the 230 area. Still struggling with walking."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Very, very bad experience with this medicine. Within three days, experienced severe nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. I have been at home recovering for two days now. Going to call the doctor to get off this stuff!!!"

For Type 2 Diabetes "I switched to Trulicity from Tradjenta at the recommendation of my Nurse Practitioner. The first two weeks taking .75 dosage, I had mild nausea and a little bit of a headache that lasted maybe one day. Week three, it all went to hell. I took it on Wednesday night, as usual. Thursday, mild nausea and a little bit of a headache. Friday, I woke up from the nausea and vomited into my own hands running for the bathroom. I was extremely nauseous all day long. No appetite. Diarrhea all day long. And then, these toxic, sulfur burps every couple of seconds accompanied by an awful taste in my mouth. I was exhausted. This lasted two days. By Sunday, I felt almost better. I'm not taking this anymore. Now, I paid for a ton of this stuff I won't even use."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I have been on Trulicity for a month and have lost 10 lbs (yay), but after the first week and a half, I had nausea, vomiting on both ends over a period of 3 days. I thought I had food poisoning. Then today, exactly one month since my first dose (3 weeks since the last episode), the nausea, vomiting, etc. came back. I had to leave work early. It comes on so quickly, I couldn't get home fast enough. Not sure if I will stay on this med, but my sugar levels have been excellent."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I’m reviewing for my husband. He was first prescribed Trulicity as a “pre-diabetic” and to help him lose a little weight since it is a known side effect. He’s been on it for about 5 months now. He’s lost close to 100 pounds, and his numbers are great. However, he has had terrible stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and cramping. That’s not even the worst of it. He is experiencing severe emotional outbursts, manic behavior that has caused him to lose his job, and it is placing a severe traumatic strain on our marriage. This medication is more addictive than most illicit drugs. He tends to take his dose a day sooner every week to get the revved-up feeling he gets the first few days after a new injection. He will stay awake for days at a time and is extremely fidgety to where he cannot sit still and must be doing something. He already suffers from alcoholism on top of it, and this medication seems to amplify it. I cannot stress enough the dangers of this medication."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I was vomiting in the mornings. After using it for 6 months, I thought I had a bad sore throat, got antibiotics, seemed better, but always have this hoarse throat with a lump feeling. Stopped Trulicity and it went away. I won't take it anymore, Metformin will be it."

For Type 2 Diabetes "My sister is a type 2 diabetic. She is currently on 2,000 mg of Metformin. I took her to the doctor a few weeks ago, and her doctor scolded her on carbs after looking at her 4-day food journal. She was then put on Trulicity. She was given her first shot in the doctor's office. I am sorry that I did not question as to why she was put on Trulicity, everything was so fast. Her A1C was 5.6. A week later, she took her second shot. I started researching and found this forum, with all of its side effects. Thank you to all that have posted! I marched her back to the doctor's office to find out why she had to be put on this deadly drug. She told us it was for weight loss, which made me even more upset. Sure, sounds like it is a great weight loss aid when all you do is throw up and have diarrhea. No, thank you, she will find a healthy way to lose weight!"

For Type 2 Diabetes "When I first started taking this medication, I wasn't even sure if it was actually having any effect. However, since I didn't experience any side effects, I decided to continue with it. My weight fluctuated while taking the medication, but I know it was largely influenced by my mental health. My previous doctor increased the dosage to 1.5 mg, which caused some mild indigestion. However, after a couple of weeks, the indigestion went away. Then, things took a turn for the worse for me, and I wasn't making the wisest choices. Almost all the hard work I had put in seemed to go away completely. Unfortunately, since my new doctor increased the dosage, the day after I use it, I wake up feeling bloated, nauseous, and sometimes even vomit, which exacerbates my other physical health issues. I struggle to eat anything that day, and even drinking becomes a problem as I feel even more bloated. I do think that we need to either decrease the dosage or try something other than Metformin. I wonder if it's the combination of Trulicity and Metformin that is causing these issues. Perhaps they are not meant to be used together."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I began Trulicity in July 2021. I had the same symptoms as others, but they only last for 1-2 weeks after starting or a dose change. While I initially was doing really well, by October the drug stopped working. I was ravenous. I wanted to eat everything, this came out of nowhere. I gained 8 lbs back. The doctor increased my dose, and I threw up after the dose change. Then still hungry. I can eat, then I want to eat again between 1-3 hours after. We have been appealing with my insurance to get onto Ozempic. It is a much better drug and zero hunger when I was on it for 6 weeks. If we cannot get approved, I will move to Trulicity 4.5 mg. Very disappointed with Trulicity and the long-term benefits."

"I am pre-diabetic and overweight and started Trulicity 3 weeks ago and have lost about a pound per day. It makes me not hungry, which is awesome. I used to think about food all the time, but now I hardly care about it. Sometimes I make myself eat a banana or something. It causes frequent bowel movements for me, but no diarrhea. It makes me nauseous occasionally, but usually only if I eat too fast. I did eat too much after my first injection, and I threw up. So far, it seems great for weight loss, and that in itself will help my A1C."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I started Trulicity this week with Tresiba. Took it on Sunday and it's now the early hours of the following Saturday morning. I was on Lantus-60 units in the morning and the same again in the evening, plus NovoRapid before meals-anything from 10 to 20 units, and my blood sugar was always fluctuating, but generally above 10. Blood sugar is now at 7.3 all day, every day, so much better-long may it continue. Off Lantus completely and hardly needing NovoRapid. Have lost 7 lb in 6 days-again, long may that continue. Appetite is well controlled, but went out for a meal yesterday lunchtime and really suffered, which I'm assuming is the side effects of Trulicity: severe toilet issues, abdominal pain, and vomiting. I hope this gets better-I'm going to persevere!"

For Type 2 Diabetes "Started on Trulicity last Saturday. It is now Wednesday night and since the injection, have not stopped vomiting, completely unable to eat and struggling to even take 1 to 2 cups of water per 24 hours. Am dehydrated and so sick I am only out of bed 5 minutes of the day since taking it. Tomorrow, am going to the hospital emergency as I will end up dehydrated at the going rate. I feel like someone has put a plug between my stomach and intestine, and the little bit of water that goes into my stomach sits there like rocks until I throw up. I would not recommend this drug, feels awful. Am on 1.5 mg."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Been taking Trulicity for about a month now. I haven't had any weight loss, and I'm not sure how it affected my A1C yet. The nausea and dizziness that come along with taking this is so unbearable that it's caused me to call out of work and made me vomit. If the results aren't significant from this drug, I will be extremely upset."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I am due for my 4th dose tomorrow, but there is no way I’m taking another dose. I’ve been nauseated, had vomiting, and horrible left-sided abdominal pain, which feels like a fire-hot poker stabbing through to my back. I have had lots of trouble with burping, passing gas, and went from normal daily bowel movements to needing to take fiber. I’ve had a bloated, painful belly. My sugars were not much different. It’s also really expensive, but you can get a coupon online that covers your computer payment."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I am a 60-year-old female who also takes Lantus and Metformin. I started the 1.5 dose of Trulicity about a month ago. I had mild gastrointestinal symptoms at first: flatulence, heartburn, and burps that smell like sulfur. About 10 days ago, the side effects got much worse: abdominal cramping, explosive diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. I had to call in sick to work twice in the last week. Sometimes I feel better, but then the symptoms hit out of nowhere. I have absolutely NO appetite and have to force myself to eat. Feels like food poisoning. This morning I had to go to the ER. They did tests, and the doc said it was due to the Trulicity and I should stop taking it. I used to be on Victoza, which worked fine, but the insurance company won't pay for it."

For Type 2 Diabetes "My doctor was insisting on trying this one and gave 0.75 dosage samples for 2 weeks. As soon as you inject the medication, you will feel dizzy and disoriented. From Day 1-3, there is a constant burning feeling on the left side of the chest. Possible due to inflammation of the pancreas. Diarrhea, vomiting also happen. These side effects last 4-5 days. It affects your work as you won't be able to concentrate on anything. Any little alcohol you take during the week will make you sick almost immediately. Please ask the doctor for samples for a few weeks and try and decide if you want to be on this medication. Also, one of the side effects is erectile dysfunction and loss of interest in sex. It did bring down the blood sugar levels to 120 from the 160 range, also assists in weight loss as you will lose interest in eating any food. The side effects outweigh any benefits of this medicine. Looks like the FDA rushed to approve this medicine without enough study on the side effects and trials."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I started on the .75 dose. The first week I almost passed out at a restaurant. Tried eating and was still sick. Doesn’t get better within the week. I kept trying to “deal” with it. Started the 1.5 dose 2 days ago, and yesterday I was in bed all day. Flu-like symptoms, nausea, vomiting, severe cramps, diarrhea. I will never take it again! I just dread that it will take a whole week to get out of my system, and I am sure I am in for a week of hell!"

For Type 2 Diabetes "I have been on the highest dose of Trulicity for close to a year. I have lost weight because I don't have any appetite. I have been to the ER and 2 video visits with severe adverse symptoms: nausea, vomiting, and constipation. I now have to go to a GI doctor. The healthcare team has not so much as acknowledged my ailments are from the highest dose of this medication, and these people suggest not to stop taking it. Yeah, ok. I'm done."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I started using Trulicity on 6/11/19; immediately I saw impressive results with my glucose numbers. I also experienced a rapid decrease in appetite. I track my calories in very closely, and I could barely get 700 calories a day for the first week. By day 5, I was vomiting with terrible stomach cramps in the early morning (5 a.m.). However, my glucose numbers remained 99-140 the entire first week. On 6/18, I took my second dose of Trulicity. The next day, I could barely function; my stomach was in so much pain. I have been nauseated just about every day since my initial intake. I haven't had a bowel movement in 13 days. And my stomach felt like a soda bottle shaken up and someone was slowly twisting off the cap. Today, I called my doctor with my side effects, and they want me off of Trulicity and back on slow-acting Lantus."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I was on Trulicity for five weeks. Unfortunately, one of the side effects is pancreatitis, which I developed, so I can no longer take this medication or anything like it. I was told the vomiting and nausea were normal and would go away after a few weeks. When the symptoms didn’t stop, my wife got involved and made the doctor do testing for pancreatitis, and they found pancreatitis. The doctor thanked my wife for her diagnosis and that I could no longer take this medication or anything like it moving forward. In the short time I was taking it, my numbers dropped 60 points. I am very disappointed that my body would not tolerate this. I think it works really well if your body will tolerate it. Good luck to you."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I started taking this drug a couple of months ago. At first, it wasn’t too bad-a little nausea and decreased appetite. The more I took it, the worse the symptoms became. Severe vomiting, diarrhea, and cramping, weakness, and fatigue. At first, I thought it was just a virus, but it happened every time I took the drug. The vomiting and diarrhea have been so severe lately that I have had to miss work because of it. I will never take this drug again!"

For Type 2 Diabetes "My endocrinologist prescribed Trulicity 0.75 mg/0.5 mL single-dose pen, once per week. I took one dose and became very ill later that day. I experienced projectile vomiting and diarrhea. After four days, the symptoms started to lessen. I never took another dose. I never went back to the endocrinologist. All she does is prescribe different drugs that all have made me ill from side effects."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Four weeks now on this medication, first 3 weeks on 1.5, then they reduced it to .75. Still no different, and I am NOT taking another one! The vomiting and diarrhea is crippling me, having to take two days a week off sick. I can't do this. I've lost just under a stone in weight, and I'm not that big to start with! The constant stomach cramps, not wanting to be far from the loo, are taking their toll! It hasn't helped my sugars at all, if anything, it's worse! Good luck."
