For Underactive Thyroid "I've been on Armour Thyroid for years and felt fairly good. My doctor switched me to NP Thyroid recently because Armour is no longer covered by insurance. NP Thyroid is awful. Not only did it cause some thyroid symptoms to return (trouble waking up in the mornings, extreme fatigue, depression, weight gain, and irritability to name a few), but it also caused new symptoms. My stomach hurt a lot with acid reflux symptoms, and I had constant mucus in my throat, which created a chronic cough, to the point where I had to clear my throat every 15 minutes. After being back on Armour for a couple of weeks now, all of the symptoms/side effects have disappeared, and I feel good again."

For Hashimoto's disease "I started taking this medication when I could no longer get WP thyroid. I was happy with the switch until this last refill in the beginning of October. I’ve gained almost 10 pounds, my joints hurt, the medicine smells and tastes horrid. I don’t know what they did, but they did something. If I complain to my doctor, she’s going to stick me back on Synthroid, and I’m going to get even sicker. Please fix this."

For Underactive Thyroid "I took Armour Thyroid for the last 10 years. When the formula was changed a couple of years ago, all of the hypothyroid symptoms set in: weight gain, hair loss, etc. My new doctor switched my prescription to NP Thyroid about 6 months ago. Such a huge improvement!!"

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I have been on thyroid for 15 years. 8 years before thyroid removal, 7 years after. I started with Synthroid at the beginning, I felt 'normal.' Then it was difficult to get Synthroid, and I switched to Nature Thyroid. Was on that for a very long time, made me feel better, no headaches, didn’t fluctuate in weight. Then the money-hungry pharmaceutical companies decided that we didn’t pay enough for our working thyroid medicine and didn’t make enough. So, I switched to NP. Now I am back to being fatigued all the time, migraines again, weight gain, brain fog, cramps in my legs, the list goes on. When are these pharmaceuticals going to be accountable for screwing with the well-being of hundreds of thousands of people?"

For Underactive Thyroid "I started taking this back in July 2022 because my insurance didn't cover Armour. This was a horrible mistake. At first, I didn't notice a huge difference, but within a couple of months, my hair started falling out, I had aching joints and weird back pain that I had never experienced. I gained lots of weight, too. I got my labs done, and they did not show hypothyroid, but all my other female hormones were a mess. I am going back to Armour and praying I go back to feeling like myself."

For Underactive Thyroid "Like the majority of people, I was given NP when WP was unavailable. Cue sweats, anxiety, weight gain, and utter misery. Crying, can’t function, blurry vision. I’ve taken my first dose of NatureThroid this morning, and voila, I am a different person. I’m holding my body straight, I feel alive/awake, and I feel like I don’t have heavy, puffy eyes."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have been on Nature Throid for years and have felt great. My doctor switched me to NP after Nature Throid was recalled. I felt okay at first, and now symptoms are popping up: sore arms, depression, constipation, brain fog, weight gain, puffy skin, and fatigue. This medicine isn't consistent, and not to mention, it smells and tastes like pee. Stop recalling medicine that works for people for pharmaceutical benefit. It's wrong. This stuff is junk."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was taking 30 mg NP Thyroid, and I had to stop it. I hurt all over, lost most of my hair, and the worst part, I could not breathe. I could only lay around and not walk to do anything. I stopped taking it, and I could breathe better, and the pain in my stomach went away. I am not taking anything now. My weight had also gone up. My insurance won't pay for Armour Thyroid, and my pharmacy will let me buy it for $13.95. It's very bad for me. God bless you all."

For Hashimoto's disease "Pharmacist substituted Armour RX with NP two months ago. I didn’t notice because I didn’t read the label (12+ years taking the same thing.) Weight gain, headache, equilibrium/balance off, blurry vision, joints ache, picking up a pitcher of water difficult, memory issues. I’ve missed 4 of the last 5 days of work (I rarely take leave) because driving the hour to work is too exhausting. Only realized the switch yesterday when I called the pharmacist to request replacement pills-figured I had a “bad batch” of Armour."

"Horrible medication. I experienced pelvic pain, water weight gain, severe joint pain in my knees, depression, mania, puffy face, profuse sweating, headaches, and bloating. I also had abdominal pain and major chills. I went back on Armour…willing to pay more money. This drug is horrible, the worst experience of my life!"

For Hashimoto's disease "I started taking NP Thyroid after Naturethroid and WP went on backorder. Didn't know it until now when I restarted WP that NP has been the cause of my hives, itching, and, of course, weight gain over the last 2 years. Restarted WP, and after 2 days, itching went away."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I never write reviews, but want to share my experience with NP Thyroid by Acella. I have many of the same problems listed here already. I have taken thyroid replacement for 20 years. I had been on Armour for years; my dosage is closely monitored as my blood levels fluctuate a lot. My doctor switched my dosage, and the pharmacy filled it with the generic NP Thyroid instead of Armour. We have new health insurance. I decided to try it; maybe it would help keep my levels more steady. Three weeks in, and this is the worst I have ever felt mentally. I have never been so depressed in my life. I have dealt with anxiety, but this is different: hopeless, weepy, with a dark depression. I have gained over 10 pounds, and all I want to do is sleep. The confusion and brain fog are almost scary; I can't remember or figure out simple things I do every day. Maybe if I could give it more time, my body would 'adjust,' but I had to call my doctor to go back to Armour. There is no way I could take the NP another day."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I've been taking NP Thyroid for the last 6 months and am completely happy with it. It reminds me of what Naturethroid was when I was taking it after getting off Synthroid following a thyroidectomy. Prior to NP, I was given the generic version of NP, which is Levothyroxine/Liothyronine, and felt terrible on it. It reminded me of Synthroid. They were both terrible, the generic version of NP and Synthroid both made my hands and legs swell up. I gained weight on both. If you are on the generic version of NP, then you are NOT taking NP by Acella. I was also on Naturethroid after getting off Synthroid and did great on it, even lost half the weight I gained while on Synthroid, and felt 100% better within just months of being on it. Then a shortage occurred, and that's when I had to switch over to NP. I definitely feel as good as I did when I was on Naturethroid."

For Hashimoto's disease "Switched from other brand after moving to a naturopath Dr. to help with my Hashimoto's. I really would not recommend Thyroid NP. For the last 2 years, I’ve had stomach burning, enough to make me think it was an ulcer, and loss of eyebrows and hair on my head, absolutely zero energy, leg aches, weight gain, and a massively foggy brain as of lately… I’ve been off for 3 days, and I can already feel the difference. Leaving my naturopath and heading back to my regular Dr. for Synthroid. I didn’t connect the dots until recently. And this stuff is not regulated well, it had 3 recalls in the last year… that’s not good."

For Hashimoto's disease "Switched to NP Thyroid after the Nature Throid shortage. It drove my FT3 levels to the top of the range and my FT4 levels below normal. Tired, aching, and weight gain. Now my doctor has cut my dosage because of the high FT3, and my symptoms are even worse. As soon as I can, I am switching back to Nature Throid."

For Underactive Thyroid "Horrible! Sounds similar to others' experience. Was switched because NatureThyroid disappeared off the market. Within a couple of weeks, noticed a huge shift. Periods became irregular again, eyebrows thinning, hair falling out, insomnia, mood swings, weight gain... the last straw was a trip to the ER for heart attack symptoms last week. Thank goodness NatureThyroid is available again... and now directly from my ND. Just got back on it yesterday. Looking forward to feeling great again."

For Hashimoto's disease "I was on levothyroxine for over 2 years and had constant palpitations, anxiety, and heat intolerance. Thyroid levels were WNL [within normal limits], saw a new endo who let me discontinue because my initial TSH was under 10. After 3 months of no meds, I had zero energy and all of my muscles and joints hurt. Started NP Thyroid, and I feel so much better, but I am gaining weight, about 6 lbs so far and don't seem to be plateauing."

For Hashimoto's disease "Terrible med. Unbeknownst to me, the pharmacy gave it to me in the place of Armour, which I have been taking for years and works great. I took NP Acella for about a month and a half, and all of my symptoms came back with a vengeance. I gained weight, became fatigued and depressed, started losing hair, couldn't sleep at night, had brain fog, etc. Went back to Armour and was fine again. If I could, I would give NP Thyroid Acella a 0. Also, I wish pharmacists warned us when they replace a prescription."

For Underactive Thyroid "I’ve been on this medication for about 2 years for Hashimoto’s. I’m not experiencing the negative side effects that everyone is reporting. I feel a lot more energy and more normal. However, I have been gaining weight. I’m not sure if this has to do with the medication or just a by-product of aging."

For Underactive Thyroid "I already rated it on here, but here’s an additional problem: my gut has been aching and bloated for weeks, every night by the time I go to bed. Food makes me feel sick, but I’m also hungry all the time. I’ve gained 6-7 lbs in the two months I’ve been on the stuff, and my menstrual cycle has worsened. Don’t waste your breath with this garbage drug, and if you can afford it, see if you can get NatureThroid compounded instead. NP Thyroid is awful for me. This drug isn't for me."

For Underactive Thyroid "Took Synthroid from age 29-50. Felt okay but had osteoporosis on a bone scan. I was told Synthroid caused the osteoporosis. Started on Armour thyroid and felt fine with normal labs. My osteoporosis reversed to osteopenia. Went to a new doctor in 2021 (age 69) who refused to prescribe natural thyroid. Started back on Levothyroxine. I now feel terrible. Not sleeping, short of breath, weight gain, jittery, palpitations. My dose was lowered from 137 to 75 mcg. Still don't feel good. Finding a doctor to start natural thyroid again. My particular bottles of natural thyroid were never on the recall list. Synthetic thyroid is cost-free for me. Natural stuff not covered. I have one half of my thyroid due to partial removal at age 28. Rating below is for WP or NP thyroid."
