For Underactive Thyroid "I have been taking NP Thyroid for about one year now since NatureThroid became unavailable in 0.5 grain. It's been okay but the last two months I have begun feeling horrible. I have no energy, feel very tired, digestive problems, bloated painful stomach, headaches, brain fog, leg cramps, anxiety/panic attacks, depressed, complete loss of libido, fat gain around the middle, and more. In early September, I noticed my NP Thyroid refill smelled horrible. I contacted my pharmacist and he told me batches vary - it's normal. So I continued to take it, feeling worse over time. I stopped taking it for 3 days as a trial this week and felt somewhat better. I since found a few websites and blogs that discuss the issues. I am not alone. Will contact Naturopath tomorrow to see what my options are. I too, like others, feel poisoned. It seems like my reaction is more than just hypothyroid symptoms. I did not feel this badly before starting thyroid hormones."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I started on levothyroxine. It never helped, so I switched to NP Thyroid. I felt more energized and didn’t fall asleep everywhere. Recently, I started to feel tired again, falling asleep at stoplights, feeling bloated, even if I didn’t eat, feeling like I can’t catch my breath, increased anxiety, and I have this pain in the right side of my neck I’ve never had before. I noticed when I got my refill of NP Thyroid in September 2019, the color, smell, and taste were noticeably different. All these new symptoms started with this new prescription; nothing else has changed. The drug company may claim it’s still of as high a standard as before, even with their new supplier, but clearly, something is wrong if many people have the same experience I have. Let’s make this about helping your patients feel better instead of any other reason that’s been concocted; go back to the old version. I’ll be switching to something different because NP Thyroid is no longer a product worth buying."

For Hashimoto's disease "Switched from Nature Throid to NP Thyroid last summer and was delighted, it worked great. However, this new refill, obtained fall of 2019, has been terrible. My body is exhausted, my brain non-functional, all my symptoms came roaring back with a vengeance. Scary. I read somewhere they were getting their raw material (pig thyroid) from a new supplier, which clearly is not working. Please get it together, NP, you are losing customers in droves."

For Hashimoto's disease "If I could list -1 as a rating, I would. Proceed with caution with this medication. I did not know what was happening to me until I spoke with two mutual friends over the holiday weekend. The confusion, depression, exhaustion, unable to sleep, and rapid heartbeat are the short list. I started NP Thyroid in May of 2019 and reached out to my doctor to switch me back to my RX in October. I've been on my old script for less than a month, but my symptoms are still present. Gained 15 lbs quickly, and joint pains are overwhelming. My life has been affected! Be careful... please!"

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I was on Synthroid for 14 years after my thyroidectomy (thyroid cancer). My body stopped absorbing Synthroid medicine. My doctor prescribed NP Thyroid, and I figured, great, something new and I’ll finally feel better. The exact opposite happened. I had diarrhea for 2 months every single day (I’ve never had stomach issues), heart palpitations, and I was tired all the time. Talked with my doctor this week, and we checked my levels. My T3 and T4 were dangerously low. For 2 months, the medication didn’t work at all. I called the pharmaceutical company today to put in a complaint and am waiting for someone to call me on a recorded line. It’s alarming to read all of these comments and hear that we all have similar issues. I’m a working mother who needs to have my medicine to function. I’ve missed work, sporting events, and time with my family. Please look into these ingredients, fix them, or remove this medication from the market."

For Underactive Thyroid "Due to low thyroid, was on Armour 60 mg for 1 year. My numbers were good, 2-4; however, it is expensive. Wanted to try NP Thyroid, less expensive, 1 less filler. Went on it for 3 months, went in for lab work. NP had not worked; my number was back to 45, the level I was on before I started thyroid meds. Now I have to go back to Armour 90 mg to work towards a normal range. On NP, felt lethargic, fell asleep in the afternoon, gained 8 lbs."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was on Armour Thyroid for many years. Pharmacy recommended NP because of the price difference, so switched me to NP, and I noticed extreme flu-like symptoms, headaches, hair loss, insomnia, swelling (even facial swelling), all-over body pain, and constant exhaustion. I asked to be switched back to Armour after a month of misery on NP, and to please make note on my account to NEVER give me NP again because of the terrible reactions. After new blood work, I unknowingly was given NP again and took it without realizing that it wasn’t Armour. My life became a living nightmare! The anxiety attacks have been awful. My nails break easily, hair falls out in alarming amounts, continuous dull headaches accompanied by brain fog that has been very concerning. The feeling of exhaustion is unbelievable, and I cannot sleep. Joint pain, miserable indigestion and reflux, profuse sweating, inflammation, and muscle aches. My energy is ZERO, and the crying makes me feel crazy! NP Thyroid is HORRIBLE!!"

For Underactive Thyroid "Please be careful with this medication. I am barely putting it all together this morning. I was on NatureThroid for a while. I lost weight but was jittery. So my doc changed me to NP Thyroid. For 3 months, I noticed I was starting to gain weight and became extremely tired in the afternoon but thought nothing of it. Then I had my prescription refilled on 1/27, and on 1/31 everything came crashing down. I woke to my body buzzing like slight electrocution. My anxiety went through the roof, ringing in my ears (like loud buzzing), inability to focus, complete insomnia. I would wake at 12:45 every night extremely hot like a hot flash and couldn't go back to sleep (thyroid regulates body temperature). I was a zombie! I took myself off this stuff and am recovering SLOWLY because it screwed with my adrenals too. Thyroid and adrenals are linked. Awaiting blood test results to see where to go next."

For Hashimoto's disease "I was on Armour Thyroid as was doing okay. Not great, but certainly better than when I was on Synthroid. Then my pharmacy changed my prescription to NP Thyroid from ACE without telling me, and I have been horribly sick to my stomach, headaches, exhausted, confused, and foggy-brained. No medicine is worth this."

For Hashimoto's disease "I was on Synthroid for about 15 years, it made my hair fall out, and I was always exhausted. I told my endocrine doc, and he told me that it wasn’t the Synthroid, it was my Hashimoto's :-( Fast forward to two years ago, I moved and got a new doctor and hairdresser. The hairdresser asked me how long I’d been on Synthroid, I told him 15 years. He said to get on a natural NP Thyroid. I did and immediately felt better, and my hair came in thick and shiny!"

For Thyroid Cancer "I also have been feeling bloated, tired, and pain in my chest and arm. I thought it was because of my recent surgery after Easter. I started to smell the smell of cat urine while taking my pill and thought it was weird because I never realized it before. I googled recalls on these NP 330 thyroid pills and found this site. Thank God! This is probably why I am not feeling well lately. I tried calling the company Acella, but they haven't returned my calls yet, so I just called the FDA. 888-463-6332. I explained the situation and mentioned this site, plus told her to look herself, not sure if she will. Anyway, she said that anyone that is, or has had issues needs to fill out a form called MedWatch. This is the way to get them to investigate. Thanks, everyone! Let's help others that aren't aware."

For Underactive Thyroid "A year ago, this month, I was suddenly finding it difficult to get NP Thyroid 30 mg. I started getting it easier through a different pharmacy. In October, I noticed a lot of little purple spots on the back of my hands. I’ve continued getting them here and there on my arms and hands. As well, I had strong heart palpitations that would sometimes make me feel faint. I had my heart checked out twice, but nothing explained the palpitations. Add to all that, I noticed my upper abdomen was feeling bloated. I was also feeling tired and anxious. Something wasn’t right. A few nights ago, something made me decide to research NP Thyroid medication, and I was shocked to see some of the side effects people were having. I quit taking it, and already, no more little purple spots! After a year of seeing them pop up here and there on my arms and hands - gone. I’m wondering if I have damaged my health taking it for a year. Don’t take this medicine!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I was on NP Thyroid for 6 months. I was told it was better than Levo. It seemed to work the first few months, the last couple of months, I have been extremely tired, severe joint pain, and occasional flu symptoms. Just out of curiosity, my wife looked up the side effects, and after that, I quit using it, and in a few days, I am feeling better. This stuff is garbage."

For Underactive Thyroid "I hate this medication. I keep trying to get the pharmacy to switch me back to the Armour Thyroid, but they won't. They claim this is the generic. On NP Thyroid, I feel tired all the time and have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. My hair is falling out again in clumps, and my weight loss is stalled. I used to be on WP Thyroid before they had manufacturing issues and loved it, but I can't get on it anymore. I think I may have my doctor switch me to Nature-Throid or move my prescription to another pharmacy because I'm tired of feeling tired and lethargic all the time."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was switched from Nature Thyroid and Armour to NP Thyroid due to supply and insurance issues. I have been totally exhausted and bloated, which is partially due to stress (which also affects thyroid symptoms), but given the above comments may also be due to the medicine. I haven’t had thyroid levels rechecked recently and wondered if anyone has since experienced exhaustion, bloating, etc.? Although a relative who also is hypothyroid commented recently that once diagnosed, if symptoms of exhaustion, weight gain, etc. return, medicine should be adjusted even if bloodwork results are in the acceptable range. (Several relatives are hypothyroid and have been told by doctors to go by symptoms/how one is feeling in addition to bloodwork TSH levels. There are other bloodwork tests besides TSH that specialists do also.) Hopefully, the makers of NP Thyroid will get the problem sorted out soon."

For Hashimoto's disease "Switched to NP Thyroid after the Nature Throid shortage. It drove my FT3 levels to the top of the range and my FT4 levels below normal. Tired, aching, and weight gain. Now my doctor has cut my dosage because of the high FT3, and my symptoms are even worse. As soon as I can, I am switching back to Nature Throid."

For Underactive Thyroid "Was okay until the company making it stopped putting the correct amount of thyroxine in the pills. I was falling asleep all the time, everywhere! And had absolutely no energy for anything. The company making the drug finally talked, and I had to go back to levothyroxine. Things have been a little better, but not great. Throw out this medication when you get a different one, but follow up on all the things that are contraindicated to taking synthetic thyroid for low thyroid. Your doctor probably has not researched or even read the accompanying information concerning the drug he/she is prescribing. Do your own research, no one else bothers!!!"

For Hashimoto's disease "I was taking Armour Thyroid for a couple of years and doing fine. When I changed pharmacies, they automatically filled my prescription with NP Thyroid. I'm nearly 90 days into NP Thyroid, and my aches and pains have increased, and I'm exhausted by 3 pm. When I get home from work, I sometimes have to take a short nap just to function. Also, my nails are breaking. I haven't had my numbers tested recently, but I'm having my prescription refilled with AT!!!!!"

For Hashimoto's disease "I am on this medication due to a shortage of Naturethroid. Both times the pharmacy switched me to this instead of Armour, I get extremely sick. I have been experiencing dizziness, lethargy, I even have circles under my eyes. Very frustrating. I work for a doctor and expressed my concern. We won't be recommending this to patients. I have patients who have also complained. I do have celiac disease, so not sure if absorption for some reason is an issue."

For Underactive Thyroid "I had horrible side effects on Synthroid. My hair fell out, I was lethargic, the side effects almost weren't worth the little good it did. With Nature Thyroid, the inside of my ears itched all the time, and wax production was excessive, and I still lost excessive hair and even eyebrows. With NP Thyroid, I experienced no side effects and an actual improvement in my thyroid function over time."

For Underactive Thyroid "They prescribed me NP Thyroid 30 mg and gave me testosterone pellets. I felt okay, then three weeks later I was very active. I could actually be productive during the day. But then slowly all that energy turned into anxiety. I couldn't rest. I caught myself ready to argue with anyone at any time. I felt such intensity, the negative kind. So I asked the doctor to switch brands because what I was feeling didn't seem normal to me. Also, my blood test showed even lower thyroid (meaning the medicine wasn't working) and that I needed a testosterone booster. They switched me to Armour. The first week I was crying uncontrollably. I had a breakdown at work. It was ridiculous, and then another breakdown for no reason! My boss thought I was crazy. I've been on Armour for two weeks now. This second week they gave me a higher dose (45 mg), and I don't cry anymore, but now I feel tired, like I'm on caffeine all the time. You know how caffeine keeps you awake but still has that tired feeling in the background."

For Underactive Thyroid "I could only last 10 days on NP Thyroid. I became so much more exhausted I couldn’t get myself out of bed. Increased brain fog. Increased headaches. Increased depression. Increased water retention. Stomach became bloated and developed constipation. I’ve been off of it for 5 days and still feeling off. I’m very sensitive to drugs, but this has never happened to me with other thyroid medications."

For Underactive Thyroid "I’ve been on NP for 4 months. I haven’t been feeling well and have a splitting headache, so I googled side effects. I don’t know what made me think it could be thyroid medicine. For some reason, it just popped into my head. I have very bad headaches daily, bloated stomach, constipation, I’m very cold all the time, foggy, and just out of it. I’m so tired and have a 'I don’t care' attitude. I used to take levo and didn’t have any of these problems. My numbers aren’t changing, so the doctor keeps increasing the dosage. Now at 120 mg, I have such blurry vision, which is sometimes double vision. Heart palpitations. Chest pain. Joint pain. I can’t sleep. I'm glad I came here to read, I thought I must have a terrible disease. Seeing doctor in a few days."
