Ramelteon for Insomnia "This medication has made me severely suicidal. It is a literal nightmare after taking it only once. I have had severe insomnia since I was a child, which has only gotten worse with age. After visiting a sleep clinic, I was prescribed this medication, but it put me in such a bad place mentally. Instead of taking my usual over-the-counter sleeping pill, I took this and began to feel drowsy about ten minutes later. Unfortunately, my heart started racing, and I have found myself in a state between severe anxiety/alertness and drowsiness/sickness since 11:00 PM. It's now 4:30 AM, and I'm experiencing a severe headache and anxiety, but I also feel dizzy, drowsy, and nauseous, yet I'm too wired to sleep. This feels like something they would give people in a concentration camp to torture them. I've now taken my over-the-counter sleeping pills to try to combat the effects of this medication that I cannot believe is even on the market. It will be a miracle if I'm even alive tomorrow."

Ramelteon for Insomnia "I've been taking Rozerem for 2 years now. I take it every night. For the last three nights, I didn't take it, and my body rebelled. It is absolutely habit-forming. My body went through withdrawals after not taking it for 3 nights in a row. I had crawlies in my legs, I was nauseated, a little shaky, and had a rapid pounding heartbeat. It was awful. I took it again last night to see if that was causing the sensations in my body, and I feel completely fine today. So, I know I had been withdrawing from it. I get an average of 5 hours of sleep on this medicine. It's the best my shrink can do without putting me on another benzo, which he won't do. I've taken every insomnia medicine they have for 24 years now, and Rozerem is the only one that lets me stay asleep for up to 5 hours after making me tired (and is not a benzo). Getting my insurance to cover it was like pulling teeth. I had to go through a medicine review panel for permission so I could take it."

For Insomnia "This is an awful drug. I took it one night. Although I slept on it with only getting up once, the side effects the next day were intolerable. I was so nauseous for days afterward and couldn’t even drink water. It caused a hormonal balance, which caused breakthrough bleeding and crying spells for hours at a time that lasted days. Who can function like that?"

For Insomnia "How is it supposed to help you if the second night you are up so dizzy, nauseous, puking, and have diarrhea and can barely move from your bathroom floor? How are they getting approval?"
Ramelteon for Insomnia "My insurance company, Medicare Part D, decided they knew better than my doctor and myself and held my Zolpidem hostage until I tried this Rozerem. My Zolpidem was completely effective, with no side effects at all. I tried this drug one night and would never try it again. It took way longer to feel even remotely sleepy-almost two hours-then felt like I was in a half sleep-completely aware but closing my eyes made some weird things go by in my mind, and scary too, almost a paranoid feeling. It felt like any effect from it wore off in several hours but had a hangover/drugged effect the next day. I also had nausea with it, and the copay was way more expensive. My problem is twofold: getting to sleep and falling asleep. Needless to say, this drug did not work for me!"
