Ramelteon for Insomnia "I have been diagnosed with bipolar, anxiety disorder, and a few others. Insomnia is included in the mix. If I do not have normal sleep patterns, my mental and emotional health becomes at risk very quickly. For the first month, Rozerem 8 mg worked well. I fell asleep easily within 30 minutes. I could have chosen to fight the drowsiness, but why take a medication then deliberately work against it? I found I had no side effects. However, now I am into my second month and I am finding I can only average 2 to 4 hours of sleep again, and during the day, I suffer vertigo and tunnel vision. So I am not sure that I will continue this medication. My insurance covered the medication without any extra paperwork."

Ramelteon for Insomnia "This medication has made me severely suicidal. It is a literal nightmare after taking it only once. I have had severe insomnia since I was a child, which has only gotten worse with age. After visiting a sleep clinic, I was prescribed this medication, but it put me in such a bad place mentally. Instead of taking my usual over-the-counter sleeping pill, I took this and began to feel drowsy about ten minutes later. Unfortunately, my heart started racing, and I have found myself in a state between severe anxiety/alertness and drowsiness/sickness since 11:00 PM. It's now 4:30 AM, and I'm experiencing a severe headache and anxiety, but I also feel dizzy, drowsy, and nauseous, yet I'm too wired to sleep. This feels like something they would give people in a concentration camp to torture them. I've now taken my over-the-counter sleeping pills to try to combat the effects of this medication that I cannot believe is even on the market. It will be a miracle if I'm even alive tomorrow."

Ramelteon for Insomnia "Initially made me drowsily sleepy, but did not remain asleep. Got up after two hours to pee. Trouble after that falling asleep, slept two more hours. Got up again to use the bathroom. Then fell asleep again and slept for approximately four hours. Got up and was dizzy all day long and had stomach upset and diarrhea as well."

Ramelteon for Insomnia "Drowsiness but no sleep, so much worse than the Ambien and Lunesta that at least work a little. Finally fell asleep at 6 a.m., woke three hours later, felt like death all day. Dizzy, drowsy, poor appetite, felt like my body was made of lead. I'm often low energy, but this was scary. Took for one night, would rather stay awake all night than do it again."

For Insomnia "Here is my feedback after the 2nd day. Obviously, I do not have a good amount of data points yet to make a final conclusion (as many reviewers pointed out that it takes 7-10 days for a full effect). However, here are my observations: What is good: It is definitely worth trying, but with some caution. For example, I suggest trying it on the weekend to mitigate potential next-day side effects. It does help, but with some caveats. What is bad: The side effects are very noticeable but tolerable. These include vivid dreams, hangovers, brain fog, vertigo, and increased heart rate in the middle of the night. What is obvious (even without trying): The cost is ridiculously high compared to all other sleep aids, and the statement that it is 'non-habit forming' contradicts the instruction to wait for 7-10 days for your body to adapt to it. There are no miracles here. I am 57 years old with about 5 years of experience using Ambien, Sonata, and Mirtazapine in very low doses (all on an as-needed basis), and all of them come with a price."

Ramelteon for Insomnia "I only took it for three nights before I gave up. It seemed to keep me up longer than usual. The worst part was that I was dizzy the next day, almost like vertigo, usually when I go from a lying down to standing position. The room just spins. It's been three nights since I've taken the medication, and these side effects have not gotten any better."

Ramelteon for Insomnia "I try going to bed around 9 PM, in order to try to get some sleep, but usually wake up in the middle of the night at 3-4 AM, and can't go back to sleep. Last night I took my first tablet as prescribed. Today I feel fatigue, dizzy, headache, blah. What do I take to compensate for these side effects? Or, will they go away after my second dosage?"

For Insomnia "As a mild sufferer of insomnia (I usually get it every 3-4 years for a few months at a time, and then it goes away), I started taking this to help taper off the low dose Mirtazapine I've been taking for 3 years (doctor's orders to get off that antidepressant). I followed the instructions and tried for 7 to 10 days so Ramelteon could get into my system, as other reviewers mentioned. I had success with it for the first few nights - good sleep. I think that was a placebo effect because, after the first 5 days, sleepless nights came back with a vengeance. Two or three good nights and then two or three sleepless nights. My body was so tired I could barely lift a book to read before going to bed, but my brain was not turning off, and I was tossing and turning all night. I had a rapid heart rate, dry mouth, dizziness, and a migraine-like headache the following day...and still uneven sleep. After taking this for nearly a month, I am stopping it and begging my doctor for another script of Mirtazapine."

Ramelteon for Insomnia "Dizzy. I was able to fall asleep with Rozerem 8 mg, but had nightmares, and the next day I felt like I was walking underwater and very, very dizzy. Will not be taking this again."

For Insomnia "How is it supposed to help you if the second night you are up so dizzy, nauseous, puking, and have diarrhea and can barely move from your bathroom floor? How are they getting approval?"
