Prilosec (omeprazole) for GERD "I have been taking Prilosec for several years, and I take one with water every morning about 30 minutes before I get up. It has totally eliminated any burning in my chest or esophagus. Also, I learned not to eat any Mexican or spicy food within 3-4 hours before going to bed."

For GERD "This medication at 20 mg was enough to relieve the symptoms of GERD, but for months, I started to suffer with symptoms I've never really experienced - anxiety, major lack of concentration, brain fog, aching on days where I had done no physical training. I have come off the medication for 2 weeks and already started feeling better, and the side effects have disappeared. I have changed my diet to combat the GERD effects, although this hasn't completely solved it, I also take a good multivitamin now. The medication was not worth the side effects."

Prilosec OTC (omeprazole) for GERD "I started taking Prilosec OTC 20 mg tablets last year. I didn't notice any side effects. My very mild GERD was definitely completely unnoticeable. I was happy. Up until around 40 days ago, I realized that the hair loss I was experiencing was the Prilosec. The hair loss started 2 months after I began the 20 mg tablets. Never had any hair loss in my life, and I've taken tons of different meds over the years. I'm a female in my early 30s. I had to eliminate one other medication to come to the conclusion that it was indeed the Prilosec making me go completely bald. Hair was coming out in huge clumps in the shower. Every time I touched my hair, it fell out. My little remaining hair was also very dry and brittle. It was definitely stressful, I had no idea this could be a potential side effect of such a low dose once a day. 40 days off, and the hair loss has dramatically decreased already. For me, that particular side effect was extreme, shocking, and unexpected."

For Hiatal Hernia "I had the camera by mouth, told that I have a small hiatal hernia. I've been taking lansoprazole for 20 mg twice a day and was feeling so bad. I had nausea, muscle pain, headache, anxiety, and after I told the doctor, he told me to change to omeprazole, which the first days it was okay, but after 1 week it started to cause so much anxiety, numbness in my foot, sweating all over my body. It's so horrible. It still doesn’t work, and I still have the symptoms as before in my stomach. I've been on PPI medication for 1 month, nothing has changed, just getting worse."

Prilosec OTC (omeprazole) for Indigestion "I had terrible indigestion for about 3 years. It got progressively worse so that I had to take baking soda every night. On my recent trip to the USA, it was noticed that I would not eat late nor lots of food. A nurse at a BBQ gave me a packet of Prilosec 20mg. Back home I tried the medication. I was cured by taking only 1 tablet. I am finishing the packet, but I had absolutely no more problems nor symptoms after only 1 tablet. I have to say that besides taking the medication, people also prayed for me."

For GERD "I was diagnosed years ago with a hiatal hernia. It's not a bad one as far as hiatal hernias go, but it caused really bad acid reflux. My reflux was so bad, sometimes at night, the stomach acid would back up into my lungs. I would wake up coughing that crap up, and it burned sooooo bad. The doctor who was in charge of my hernia care decided that the hernia wasn't bad enough to risk surgery, so he opted to try omeprazole. I have been on omeprazole for nearly 10 years now and can count on one hand the number of times I have had issues with reflux. I also want to note that I take a multivitamin as well. Omeprazole can cause mineral deficiencies if taken long term."

For Indigestion "Was prescribed 20 mg a day for indigestion and suspected stomach ulcer as having sharp pains in the upper stomach, as well as heartburn and indigestion. Took capsule in the morning 30 mins before breakfast. Helped the indigestion, but I have severe dizziness where I feel drunk or doped up, chest and stomach pain, and my anxiety is through the roof. After 7 tablets, I ended up going to the hospital as I thought I was having a heart attack. I was examined and told my anxiety was driving my stomach and chest pain. That may be the case, however, the omeprazole was definitely driving the anxiety. I'm quitting this medication from tomorrow and pray I feel and get better."

For GERD "I had been on ranitidine for a year before the recall happened, then I was taking cimetidine. My reflux was controlled “ok” by the ranitidine as long as I took it very specifically, but I’d still get flare-ups at night really badly. Cimetidine was less effective in some ways, less predictably effective, and my flare-ups got to the point I went to the ER to get lidocaine for my stomach to make it stop. The ER doc prescribed me omeprazole for 30 days until I can get in and see my regular doctor. For me, the PPI is like night and day, like as if I have a healthy stomach again. It’s incredible. I’ve been taking it at night, around 5 PM instead of morning, and I so far have not had any reflux sensation at all. I have so far not experienced any of the other side effects, and I feel happy and normal on it. I hope this continues because it’s a lifesaver for me."

For GERD "I began taking Omeprazole a few years ago due to GERD. Recently, I was diagnosed with IBS with constipation, some cramping, pain. I had an upper GI (EGD), polyps were found in the body of the stomach and fundus, and also gastric polyps were found. Luckily, results were good, not the pre-c type. Doctors should be made to have to give you a warning about this before starting the medication. I'm going to wean myself off of this poison."

Prilosec (omeprazole) for Erosive Esophagitis "I have taken Prilosec or omeprazole for years, and in increasing doses over time, it has given me perfect control over my reflux and heartburn problem. Nexium made me so sick after 5 days of use that I could not get out of bed. Nothing else has ever worked so extremely well as this medicine."

Prilosec (omeprazole) for GERD "I took this to help control acid reflux, and it seemed to help that, but it gave me IBS-D (irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea) that took me years to control, where I couldn't work or leave the house. Still to this day, I deal with it - 6 years later, but improved. I never made the connection until I went back on Prilosec a few months ago, and it flared up like crazy again. I never had problems like this before Prilosec."

For Indigestion "I have been taking omeprazole for 2 weeks, and it was horrible, it caused my stomach to have more gas and bloat, which is the opposite of what I feel it should do. It also caused constipation and loss of appetite. I would never take this again. After 1 day, the abdominal pain got better!"

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "I have had stomach problems over the last few years. Initially caused by H. pylori, I was prescribed antibiotics and 20 mg omeprazole. After the H. pylori was cleared, I was recommended to stay on the 20 mg of omeprazole for a period of time. Five years later, I am still stuck on this pill. The side effects are horrendous. I've never felt as tired in all my life. I feel very depressed and low. I have severe cramps in my stomach and severe back pain. In general, I always have a feeling of unwellness. I've also been recently diagnosed as having chronic gastritis, which I am sure is a side effect from taking omeprazole for so long. However, when I stop taking it for a week, I feel absolutely amazing, if to describe just normal. However, it's short-lived, and my acid reflux and heartburn flare up, and I have to go back on the omeprazole. It's a vicious cycle. I wish I had never taken this drug ever in the first place. I am a shadow of my former self. I would really like to know if anyone is in the same position."

Prilosec (omeprazole) for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome "I have a hiatal hernia, which can cause bad reflux, etc. I've been taking Prilosec for at least ten years (probably closer to fifteen), and I've never had ANY negative side effects. It has been invaluable for relieving the inflammation and irritation associated with reflux, gastritis, GERD, etc. Awesome medicine, I've never had any interaction issues, and I'm on a number of serious medicines (heart, blood pressure, anti-anxiolytics, and pain meds). I'm 58, and I will probably be taking it as long as I'm around. Great medicine."

For Barrett's Esophagus "I wish I could've been on this much earlier. I first started getting acid reflux with my first pregnancy, and it continued for over 20 years. I never knew how dangerous it is...even though there'd be nights I wake up choking, coughing, and feeling like someone poured acid down. Two years ago, I started choking on poultry and larger pills. After months of scares, I finally saw a doctor. After a few tests and endoscopy, my esophagus was actually closing up. The doctor had to widen it...the reflux had caused so much scarring, he said he could only open it up 2/3 of what it should be. I always thought acid reflux was just an inconvenience...never knew it could cause so much damage and potentially could have killed me. Omeprazole really helped."

For Indigestion "Was put on this horrific pill, omeprazole, in 2018. What a nightmare I am going through. I lost 3 stone. Can't eat hardly anything without it coming up. I have stopped taking it a week ago, so hopefully, I will feel better in the near future. Please be careful taking it. Does anybody know when I might start feeling better, please?"

Prilosec OTC (omeprazole) for GERD "It was wonderful to be able to take one in the morning and be free of distress all day, but soon I began to have dizziness on arising which soon increased to all day. By process of elimination I found the cause to be Prilosec. The problem was resolved after discontinued use. Now I am taking ranitidine with no such side effects and very satisfied."

For Indigestion "I just came back from the ER because I was about to pass out while driving on the highway. I started feeling my arms getting numb and shaking. I had a blood test, and it showed oxygen wasn't getting to my brain! I stopped taking this medication that day. I just had a second blood work, and all my numbers are perfect. Stay away from this stuff!"

Prilosec (omeprazole) for GERD "I love this stuff. Ended my reflux and perpetual sore throat. I was thankful for how quickly it worked. Now to the packaging! These pills are nearly inaccessible in the packaging they come in. I use a scissor to open the pockets where the pills are encased and then store the pills in a small bottle."

Prilosec (omeprazole) for GERD "Occasionally my GERD symptoms flare up. So, this time I decided to try Prilosec, and I feel Prilosec has worked better for me than the medication prescribed by my doctor. Within three days, my stomach swelling went down, and I was able to digest my food much better. I will use Prilosec from now on!"

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "Took 20 mg omeprazole a day for 5 days. I changed from a healthy, happy human being to a sad, thin, nauseous shell. I've lost half a stone and struggle to get out of bed. My heart races every morning until late afternoon. I am constantly exhausted and have lost interest in everything I once enjoyed. Standing in the shower is like a day's work. Took my last one 2 days ago and still feel like rubbish."

For GERD "I didn't know I had GERD as I've never experienced heartburn. I did, however, experience difficulty swallowing, and I constantly had to clear my throat. I couldn't get a sentence out without making this annoying noise. I thought I had post-nasal drip; I was taking Claritin D every day (I stopped) and Flonase. My primary sent me to an ENT; I complained about this throat thing forever. After listening to me talk and hearing the hoarseness in my voice, the ENT said, 'I don't think you have post-nasal drip,' put the camera through my nose and down my throat - I have GERD... say whaa. I had no symptoms of that, so I thought. That day I started taking 40 mg of omeprazole... It has changed my life... almost immediately it went 90% away. :-)"

Prilosec (omeprazole) "I took this medicine for an acidity problem, especially overnight. After 10 days, acidity feels less, but I had an adverse drug reaction: fever, joint pain in my hips, lower back pain, duodenal discomfort, diarrhea, fatigue, and some side effects: headache and nausea."

For Stomach Ulcer "Was on Prilosec for two months. I started having gas and rumbling intestines. I quit cold turkey. Didn't realize that would cause horrible withdrawal. It caused lack of appetite, (6 months out I'm still not back to normal, and just now gaining a little bit of my weight back) insomnia, anxiety attacks, high BP, nausea, etc. Too much to list. Truly bad for me! I'm sorry I ever took it! I've lost work, sleep, and just enjoying life because of that pill. Please be careful! Wish I could turn back time."

For GERD "I am so happy to know that I’m not as crazy as I thought I was. I started this medication in hopes that it would help alleviate some stomach issues I was having, it did just that and more. As the months went on, I started getting dry mouth, and I developed erythema nodosum. I continued to take this per my doctor as I was going on vacation, and she didn’t want things to change for me. Afterwards, I started to taper off, and I began to become anxious/nervous and panicky. Once I was fully off of the medication, things got worse for me. I am only just over a month off of this medication, and I’m still having a heck of a time. I have never been on any medications, and I have never dealt with anxiety like this. I haven’t wanted to leave the house, and I’m just hoping the symptoms subside soon because I can’t stand to feel like this while trying to care for my children."
