For Psoriasis "I have had psoriasis on my scalp since I was a baby with 'Cradle Cap.' It was left untreated until I was about 21. I have tried every cream and t-gel out there. Nothing cleared it up fully. Since I turned 24, the condition has spread to other parts of my body, usually parts that don't get much light. Psoriasis is terrible and affects everyone so differently. This condition has kept me from getting close to people and even kept me from going to hairdressers. Finally, I decided to start this medicine. I'm currently on my fourth week of 15mg oral methotrexate. I have noticed a huge decrease in itching, and my patches seem to be not as scaly. I really hope this works, so far so good."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I was on methotrexate for 5 years. I started with pills, then injections, as I couldn’t handle the taste and it felt like it poisoned me. It made my brain feel awful - I couldn’t eat - it was the worst. I had 4 car crashes from poor judgment, either on the day or day after using it. I developed a bleeding disorder and exploded through my skin, they have called it abnormal platelet dysfunction. They don’t know what the cause is, but I think it was from methotrexate. I have had heart surgery and was diagnosed with angina and had a stent. Added to this, I have ulcerative colitis, as well as Raynaud's syndrome and SLE. I don’t work or even look sick, but I know one thing: methotrexate was a nightmare compared to all the heart issues I have had and am having. I’m still looking for a job, I’m not disabled but have no energy to even type this."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I had taken MTX in the past, but it did not work out for me due to rash problem caused by MTX. So, the doctor recommended Sulfasalazine, and it worked out very well for about 4 years. However, the effectiveness of Sulfasalazine diminished. I met a doctor who practices natural medicine, and also an ER doctor at the local hospital. They recommended three natural supplements for RA and pain - Turmeric, Wobenzym N, White Willow - and they have been very effective for me. I have been off those medications for 5 months now."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "A couple of years ago my husband was at the point where he was limping severely, with swollen joints in his hands and feet. He was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and began taking methotrexate at 20 mg once a week; he has since cut back to 17.5 mg. It has made a huge difference in his functioning, and he's pretty much back to normal. (Regular strength training at the YMCA has also helped a lot). He was also told to take folic acid once a day, which he does. The only negative is that his hair has thinned quite a bit, which is a common side effect. He is in his 70s."

For Psoriasis "I have been taking a 15 mg weekly dose (three doses of 5 mg at 12-hour intervals once a week) for five weeks now. My psoriasis, pretty heavy scaling on all joints and 'splatter' over pretty much the whole body, which I've had for 18 years (I'm 51), has gone almost completely. Still a little bit on elbows, knees, and ankles, hands and the rest of the body are completely clear. Yes, early days, but hopefully... My only suggestion is to get empty gelatine capsules (or gelatine substitute if you are vegetarian, harder to get hold of) and put the tablets in them before taking. Helps avoid stomach upset."

For Psoriasis "I have had psoriasis all my life (45 yrs). I have been a methotrexate user for 12 years. Before I started using methotrexate, I was covered about 90%. Today it is about 1%. Over the years, along with blood work, I have had 3 liver biopsies. I have had no side effects."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "Been on methotrexate for five months now. It still makes me nauseous, and I hate continuing with these injections. I see my doctor in March. If I have to continue with them, I'm going to ask for oral instead. I still have a lot of pain in my hands, hips, back, and knees. Everywhere. Is this medication helping anybody?"

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I have been on Methotrexate 25mg for 6 weeks now, but 6 months for 20 mg, and I have seen much improvement with my back pain. I do have severe rib and chest pain still, but the back pain is much better. I feel like a zombie though every day. I can barely make it through the day. I am so upset about my hair. I have cut almost 6 inches off and still have dry, damaged hair from the medicine. I lose handfuls of hair daily, and the GI problems sometimes are pretty bad. So I don't know if the side effects outweigh the benefits. I wish I could have someone help me fix these side effects, and I would be okay. I think the fatigue is one of the worst though. :("

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I have been taking the medication since June 2011. I like it, but I'm always sick. It minimizes the pain and swelling, but it doesn't take it all away. I wake up every morning, and I can hardly move my ankles. I'm way too young to have to deal with this. I'm only 22 years old. Some days I feel like I'm suffering, and if I'm sick, I can't even walk."

For Psoriasis "I was diagnosed with psoriasis about 1.5 years ago at the age of 24. It was severe in my scalp, ears, elbows, hands, knees, legs, and feet. I've tried every single remedy out there. Every cream and ointment the derm prescribed. Finally, I stood my ground and needed a change; it was affecting my everyday life terribly. I've been on methotrexate 15mg and folic acid 1mg for about two months now, and my elbows, hands, and feet are clear, my elbows and scalp have decreased dramatically! I have absolutely no side effects, which was my biggest fear! Life is good! It's amazing!"

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I was diagnosed at 10 months old after a knee biopsy. I have been taking methotrexate on and off since I was 16 years old and I am now 41 years old. This medication has greatly reduced the activity of the disease and has increased the quality of my life greatly. I have just changed from methotrexate oral tablets to methotrexate injections. The tablets were making me feel nauseous so my specialist decided to put me on injections to bypass my stomach. The injections are easy to administer and relatively pain-free. I am presently just trying to find the right dose for me due to suffering side effects. 15 mg has caused me severe sore lips and mouth, nausea, dizziness, lethargy, and abdominal cramps. 12.5 mg is the correct dose for me."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "It definitely helps with the pain and mobility part of rheumatoid arthritis, but I am nauseous usually 2 or three days after I do the shot. I'm also tired a lot and feel weak after I take my weekly shot. Sometimes I don't take it consistently because I don't feel like being sick that week. I do enjoy it when my fingers actually bend though."

For Psoriasis "I live in the UK & have had plaque psoriasis for 20 years. After various lotions, UVB & PUVA, my knees & elbows became infected, and I could hardly walk or sleep with the discomfort. As I also have depression, my dermatologist decided on prescribing methotrexate as my quality of life was so severely affected. I take 15mg tablets once a week, within a month it had all but gone, and has remained that way. It has been a year since I started, it's such a relief not to think about my knees all the time! I also take folic acid, and the skin on my face has become quite oily, but it's definitely worth it. I've recently noticed the few patches I have left are beginning to increase in size, but I hope this improves with the arrival of summer!"

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "Methotrexate can ruin your lungs very quickly. I now have pulmonary fibrosis because two doctors insisted that it would be fine. They lie and tell you, 'Oh, you just have interstitial lung disease,' but it usually stops. Do not believe them! Take something else!"

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "After a severe case of Ross River Fever for which I was taking 50 mg Prednisone daily, I developed chronic degenerative Polymyalgia Rheumatica. The pain in my arms, neck, hips, knees, hands, and ankles was intense and never-ending. I tried all the usual painkillers, including Oxycontin and Methadone, with varying short-term success. However, the mind-numbing daily struggle associated with taking opiates was taking a toll on my life. My Rheum trialed me on 15 mg MTX weekly for 2 months, and the results were incredible. The pain in my neck and knees almost disappeared after the first week, so the Rheum increased the dose to 15 mg in the morning and 15 mg at night once a week. Wow, what a difference! I had few side effects and was almost pain-free. Thank you, MTX."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "Been taking Methotrexate for almost 3 years now. Last fall, I felt good enough that I went off it without my Dr's knowledge, because it made me feel pretty ill for a day or so after. What a mistake! I started taking it again about 2 months ago, and although it still makes me sick, it sure beats the pain I'm in without it. (on 25 mg a week, along with Hydroxychloroquin and folic acid)"

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "Roughly one year now and methotrexate has been working miracles. I started at 10 mg/week and eventually moved up to 12.5 mg/week. From the outset, I was tapering off of 10 mg/day of prednisone but could not completely eliminate it until I moved the methotrexate up to 12.5 mg/week. Per doctor's recommendation, I'm also taking 5,000 IU of vitamin D daily and 1,000 mg of calcium daily (I don't eat much dairy). Side effects: None, except that I sometimes take a short nap after dinner on 'methotrexate day' (I take it after lunch so as not to interfere with my pre-dinner martini(s)). Without methotrexate, I could barely walk!"

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I've had rheumatoid arthritis (RA) for 35 years. I finally found a rheumatologist that was very good. I started on Plaquenil, which was great, but I developed an allergy to it. Switched to methotrexate oral, but had a hard time tolerating the nausea and diarrhea. Switched to injectable methotrexate, and had no nausea, limited diarrhea. It worked moderately well for the RA. Not completely pain free, but could do most things most days. I got cellulitis while on it, so had to go off for about 3 mos. When I went back to it, it didn't seem to work quite as well, and I realized I was experiencing more side effects than I was aware of the first time: thin skin, dermatitis, bruising, bleeding, hair falling out. New rheumatologist (my good one moved) decided to try Arava."

For Psoriasis "This drug greatly helped my psoriatic arthritis, but not the plaque psoriasis, which always came back. I've been through the script topicals, light treatments, Amiveve, etc. I was 98% covered. Why did not a single doctor ever tell me NOT to touch beer? If you drink beer, put it DOWN and see how quickly you begin to clear up. Pork is another culprit as it is slow to digest and affects the immune system. For topical relief, try OTC Boudreaux's Butt Paste baby diaper rash cream, which far outshines Dovonex. Scalp treatment? Neutrogena T-Gel Shampoo works quickly. If you are severely covered, add zinc or zinc supplements to your diet. I haven't gone to a derm in years, and I am clear!"

For Psoriatic Arthritis "Methotrexate has a profound effect on my life. I have been taking it for nearly 5 months and can walk freely again after 6 long months of suffering. I have experienced no major side effects and have even lost a little weight, which was surprising. Another pleasing change was not only did my arthritis clear up rapidly, but my skin has cleared as well. My nails are also smoother and less pitted. Methotrexate is truly a wonder drug. It has transformed my life. It is remarkable."

For Psoriasis "It works great! I have had Psoriasis all my adult life and only two things have worked. The first was the original Skin Cap spray from Spain but that disappeared after the U.S. government got involved. This was second. I have been on methotrexate 2.5mg tablets for 6 months and was fully clear within the first month. No stomach problems and no other side effects. If you suffer from psoriasis, do yourself a favor and find a doctor that will work with you to try it."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) at 7 years old. I have been on a number of medications, including methotrexate, the only reason being my vision. I am now 18 years old and have been using the medication for about a year now, but have used it before and have the same bad experience with it. I take the medication weekly, every Thursday. After I take the dosage, I immediately feel nauseous, and it does not just last for that day. It lasts throughout the whole weekend. I am not an advocate for this drug and would not recommend it to anyone. I feel as if it is making my body deteriorate, and I'm so young..."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I was diagnosed with RA 2 years ago and am grateful that methotrexate allows me to live a normal life. I take 20 mg once a week. I have a flare every now and then, which is managed by a steroid injection. I take 5 mg of folic acid every day to counteract side effects. I am tired on MTX day but generally have not experienced anything negative with the drug. However, I take it last thing at night on the day I have to take it, and I take it with milk. I figure if there are any effects I would rather sleep through them. Also, I don't want to start taking a stomach acid medication, so I tried it with milk and it was fine. It's worked for me."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I have been taking methotrexate for two weeks now. Before taking this, I had pain in my hips, knees, and ankle and could not walk on the heel of one of my feet. The pain was really bad. I am now walking on my foot again with little pain and do not feel so fatigued and tired. I do feel tired and a bit dizzy for a few days after the medication but not too bad. I am only taking 3 a week at the moment, and about to take four, then five and six. Hopefully I won't have too many side effects."

For Psoriatic Arthritis "I take 8 pills once a week. 4 in the morning, 4 in the evening. At first, I thought it was so awful: no appetite, no energy, upset stomach. Then I changed to taking the dosage 2 times in that day, which has helped. I still have appetite loss, and some foods make me feel ill. My pain is gone, so I applaud methotrexate. I take swim aerobics now, trying to build strength up. The only problem is I have low hemoglobin, but I am sure the doctor will figure it out. I take 2 folic acid daily. I am prediabetic, take metformin, but no drinking."
