For Bipolar Disorder "I have been on Caplyta for a week and 2 days. I have been so hopeful for 6 years now that a new medication could help with my depression. I've had a bipolar 1 diagnosis for almost 20 years now. Abilify was life-changing for me. It worked for me all on its own for about 12 years!! But it stopped working. I like to run a little hypomanic, which is where I find myself right now. However, I have also stopped my Wellbutrin and tapered off Abilify all within a week too. The first few days of Caplyta, I was exhausted around the clock. I also have very vivid dreams. The tiredness gets better each day. I haven't experienced anything else physically. I am exercising again, I am writing again, and I am hopeful. So it's definitely working for me so far!"

For Schizophrenia "I took one dosage of Caplyta and about 20 minutes in my arms and legs started to burn as if I took a niacin. Then the next day I had a searing headache. If this drug works for some, great. But not for me. I couldn't find any of my side effects on the internet."

"I’ve been taking Caplyta (42 mg) for 5 months now for my Bipolar 1. For the past ten years, I have cycled hard between depression and mania (hypomania). I have been on many different medications. The 5 months since taking Caplyta, I haven’t been depressed or manic once. My mind is clear, no fog. My energy levels have been up and zero side effects."

For Bipolar Disorder "I'm currently on Caplyta 42 mg and have been for over 3 months. It has vastly improved my life and allowed me to get back to a normal version of myself. I've tried several other atypical antipsychotics like Latuda, Vraylar, and Geodon, each with varying success. Vraylar was the best antipsychotic I was on, sadly, it quit working. Caplyta has gotten closer to the stability I had with Vraylar. However, I understand that every person has different success with different medications, so do not compare my experience to others. Caplyta, though, is very expensive, and with my insurance switching in the coming months, I may be forced to switch once again, which I do not want due to the success of Caplyta. I've had no noticeable side effects from this medication, and it does not interact with my other medications prescribed, which is a major advantage."

For Bipolar Disorder "I've been struggling with my mental health for my entire lifetime. Thirty now, and let me tell you it’s a GAME CHANGER. I have always struggled with alcohol. I used it to cope. I would be impulsive, angry, ruin relationships with friends and family. Sleeping all the time, everyday tasks just felt like a huge marathon and exhausting. It was a fight every single day. In my teenage years, I was making decisions that had negative impacts on my future. I was always feeling held back and empty. I was prescribed this about a year ago. At first, it was a little brutal as far as the drowsiness and my headaches were bad. After about a month of sticking with it… I'm now 9 months sober, my job and work ethic have improved so much. The relationships I have with my friends and family are so much better. I'm no longer angry or have any bad thoughts. I'm way more confident in myself. My health habits are much better. Every single aspect of my life has improved. I feel free. 20/10 recommend."

For Schizophrenia "I started on this medication a week ago for bipolar. I was worried after reading all the bad reviews but decided to try it because my doctor always has samples, so it’s free, and I’ve been off all meds for six months and things eventually got bad like they always do. Also, I don’t normally have side effects from medicines except for lithium. First night, very sleepy but surprisingly not as bad as other antipsychotics, and I’ve been on several over the years. Within a few days, I felt the paranoia and delusional thinking subsiding. I’m much more calm feeling. I want to do things again. I also started Wellbutrin XR. I hope things continue to improve over the next several weeks."

For Schizophrenia "I felt burning the first day on Caplyta, and it continued the whole time. Hair loss started in about two weeks, and that was before the medicine became really intense. I couldn't stop talking, couldn't sleep, and couldn't stop moving. My throat became very sore from talking so much. I felt like I had to walk to settle my mind. I could sleep for about an hour or two a night for about the last 3 weeks on the medication. My hallucinations became terrifying to me. This was like a whole other level of my nightmare life. It was like living in an insane world. Watching TV was terrifying. I felt like I was being hunted by people at night. Urinating became painful, and I felt like I wanted to scream. There was difficulty in urinating from the pressure. I was also hallucinating more. 6 1/2 months after stopping the medication, I'm still trying to recover. It was a nightmare."

For Bipolar Disorder "I was diagnosed with bipolar 1, PTSD, and OCD in 1994. Generally, I have had mostly long, depressed episodes. Normally, I rapid cycle. I went on Caplyta 8 months ago. At first, it made me dizzy, sleepy, with an extremely dry mouth. I was able to finally sleep through the night. After about 2 weeks, I felt a lot less depressed. Since then, my mood has drastically improved. I haven’t felt flat on this med. My emotions are more real. When I laugh, it’s natural. There’s nothing forced about it. I can genuinely FEEL again. I’ve noticed feeling my old personality before I started having bipolar symptoms, more compassionate and smarter. My thinking became clearer. I was able to verbally communicate better. I have motivation I haven’t had in years. I can shower, clean my house, and help others. My appetite has decreased, so I have lost 55 lbs. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing yet. Anyway, Caplyta has been wonderful for me. I am ME again."

For Bipolar Disorder "Hang in there and give it at least 3 days. After the 3rd day, for me, I felt less or no side effects at all. I’ve been taking Caplyta for 2 months, and I am very pleased with this. I’ve tried various doses of many other drugs, but this is great stuff. I’m happier, I’m laughing. I’m productive. Stick it out before calling it quits after that first dose."

For Bipolar Disorder "My doctor recommended Caplyta 10 mg. I have been taking it for two weeks and can barely get out of bed. My hands and feet keep falling asleep, but I can't find that as a side effect anywhere. It's supposed to help with depression, but I feel worse. I keep thinking of sad things and crying, which is weird for me. I'm hot all the time, which is fine for winter but won't be in a few months. This one is not for me. It reminds me of Seroquel without the munchies. The doctor really hyped this one, but I just don't see the appeal."

For Bipolar Disorder "Took this on day one for bipolar 2, and 2 hours later I felt like I had icy hot all over my body. Then I felt lethargic to the point I had slurred speech, and I could barely move without help. I had a very dry mouth and excessive thirst. The severe headache started, so I took a nap for about an hour. I woke up with neck pain connecting to the back of my head, nausea, and vomiting. A 2-hour shower eased the headache very little, but it continued along with the nausea until the following day. Also, on the following day I had dark urination. I was advised to discontinue the medication."

For Bipolar Disorder "I took Caplyta for almost a year. I had pain all over my body, I could hardly move my neck. When I finally stopped the medication, I had no pain in about 2 weeks. I have taken a lot of drugs for my condition, but this was by far the worst. Personally, I think it is a very dangerous medication. I really thought it would kill me!"

For Bipolar Disorder "Took Caplyta for the first time and only time 2 days ago. I am also on lamotrigine 400 mg and Lexapro 15 mg. The next morning, I could barely open my eyes, that’s how drugged up I felt. I felt dizzy, foggy, nauseous, and confused. I had one of the worst headaches I have ever experienced. My husband had to come home from work that morning because I literally could not function and take care of our 9-month-old. I slept all day, but the headache got worse. I did not take it last night, and I am still having horrible side effects. I couldn’t go to work because I still feel very foggy. My insides feel like they are burning. I either need to explosively vomit or go to the bathroom but can’t do either. I still have a severe headache, and my pee is also unusually dark. I’m so bummed. I had high hopes for this med, but I have never reacted to a medication like this in the last 14 years of being on meds."

For Schizophrenia "I have bipolar schizoaffective disorder. I've been on dozens of antipsychotics, including old-school ones like Haloperidol. I was beginning to lose hope of ever getting relief until my psychiatrist put me on Caplyta! It doesn't do much for my bipolar symptoms, but has been immensely helpful with my schizophrenia symptoms. My voices have diminished almost entirely. I'm rarely paranoid, and I've had just a few short-lived delusions since starting the medication six months ago!"

For Bipolar Disorder "This medicine caused problems with temperature regulation for sure and flu-like symptoms. My nose would get so stuffy I could barely breathe even after taking allergy meds. I also got a severe burning sensation in my arms and legs while feeling cold at the same time. I’d have my heat on 75 with a space heater and electric blanket and still feel cold, but my skin felt like it was being burned inside out."

For Bipolar Disorder "Caplyta has made me feel nothing but anger, annoyance, and frustration. I haven’t felt a single positive emotion since starting it. It’s not even a listed side effect. It has made me so angry, so constantly, that I cry every day out of pure anger. Constant, uncontrolled anger every day. No other emotions."

For Bipolar Disorder "I am ecstatic with Caplyta. I think it is the best medication I've tried over the years. It's effective and has no sexual side effects. - 53-year-old male on antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and/or antidepressants since 1991. - Effective against depression and psychosis at 42 mg. Tried to reduce the 42 mg dose to reduce too much energy, and the return of psychosis resulted. - Before all medications: lethargic, severely depressed. With Caplyta: energized, alert, clear-thinking, good mood. - Somewhat overly energized, and initial sleep disruption managed with gabapentin (300 mg x3), Buspar (30 mg x3), Ativan, and 200 mg L-Theanine at bedtime. - Minimal side effects: no sexual issues (common with other antipsychotics), no appetite increase or weight gain, no akathisia. - Initial minor side effects: dry mouth, stuffy nose, mild constipation, slight fatigue - all resolved quickly. - Only effective antidepressants since age 17: Lamictal, Abilify, and Caplyta."

For Bipolar Disorder "I was prescribed Caplyta by my psychiatrist. I also have taken Wellbutrin and Lamictal for years. The first day I took it, I thought I was going to die. My neck was burning hot (but on the inside). Then it radiated up to the lower part of my head, then I could feel the heat radiating down my spine. It felt like a hot poker. My feet swelled up, as did my left hand and face. I could barely type a text to my husband for help. I vomited for about 8 hours and couldn’t hold down even a sip of water as my mouth was so dry. My fever was normal, but my insides were on fire. My husband called the late-night nurse, and she said, “Sounds like an allergic reaction, so give her a Benadryl.” I was pretty skeptical, so I took a Xanax too to help relax (which she approved to do). I’m still feeling the horrible “wobbly” effects two days later. I would NEVER have taken this knowing what I would have to endure."

For Bipolar Disorder "I was on Depakote for a while, and it helped, but it didn't deal with the depression very well. I asked to try out Prozac, but it was overkill for me, even in small doses. I told my doctor that the Depakote wasn't keeping up with me, and so she said, let's give Caplyta a go. It was a big difference. Depakote stopped my mood swings dead in their tracks. Caplyta has a take-it-easy approach and really clears something up before letting the mood stabilization settle. I did not have any side effects from it. No headache or anything, but I'm really good at meditation techniques that stop headaches from coming on, so that could have helped. Caplyta for me has been a very clean feeling, so it has helped with my depression. Pretty amazing drug."

For Bipolar Disorder "I have only taken this medication for one night, and I'm never taking it again. My body felt like it was on fire, my head was pounding. When I got up, I felt as if I was gonna faint. I was so nauseous, and the next morning, I felt so confused and dizzy. I had to sit down in the shower because I thought I was gonna pass out, and I slept all day because my brain was so foggy."

So glad she isn’t still taking it. She is still laughing and not doing well, but it has only been a week. Hate for her to go back into the hospital during a pandemic."

For Schizophrenia "I'm on this for bipolar 1 & schizoaffective disorder. The only downside I can say about this drug is that it has caused prolactin to go very high. I just got my levels back, and it was 95. Normal levels are 4-23. This medication has caused galactorrhea (milk production). So a word of caution to anyone trying out this drug: it is new and has only been around for a year and even does mention right on the site that it has caused prolactin increases. So please watch out for this and get checked for it if you think it may be an issue. Even if you are not actively leaking, if you check, there may be lactation. Please be aware, and I hope this helps someone."

For Schizophrenia "Caplyta was the most normal-feeling treatment I have ever taken. The only problem is that I am very treatment resistant, so after about a month it quit working. It would work if I would triple the dosage, but you’re not supposed to do that, lol. I don’t know what to do anymore, the only treatments I haven’t tried yet are the ones that make you sleep twelve hours a day."

For Bipolar Disorder "Not bad, but I didn't love it either. I was on Caplyta for a few months for bipolar depression. I took it as my only medication for bipolar at first, starting at 21 mg and going up to 42 mg. It did not work at either dose. I was still depressed and suicidal. After a while of that, I started 200 mg of lamotrigine alongside the Caplyta. I had been on lamotrigine previously, and it didn't work well enough on its own either. Together, though, the medications worked. I wasn't in a depressive episode anymore. Things were going well for me. I was very cold on Caplyta for the first week or so. No clue why that happened. I started in early fall, so it could have been worse, but it was still very annoying. My vision was slightly more blurry on it, but it was manageable. What ultimately made me come off the medication was the drowsiness. It was better than the other antipsychotics I had been on, but it was hard to get up in the morning, and that wasn't sustainable for me."
