For Bipolar Disorder "I have been on Caplyta for a week and 2 days. I have been so hopeful for 6 years now that a new medication could help with my depression. I've had a bipolar 1 diagnosis for almost 20 years now. Abilify was life-changing for me. It worked for me all on its own for about 12 years!! But it stopped working. I like to run a little hypomanic, which is where I find myself right now. However, I have also stopped my Wellbutrin and tapered off Abilify all within a week too. The first few days of Caplyta, I was exhausted around the clock. I also have very vivid dreams. The tiredness gets better each day. I haven't experienced anything else physically. I am exercising again, I am writing again, and I am hopeful. So it's definitely working for me so far!"

For Bipolar Disorder "Took this on day one for bipolar 2, and 2 hours later I felt like I had icy hot all over my body. Then I felt lethargic to the point I had slurred speech, and I could barely move without help. I had a very dry mouth and excessive thirst. The severe headache started, so I took a nap for about an hour. I woke up with neck pain connecting to the back of my head, nausea, and vomiting. A 2-hour shower eased the headache very little, but it continued along with the nausea until the following day. Also, on the following day I had dark urination. I was advised to discontinue the medication."

For Schizophrenia "I had a stomach ache for 4 weeks after I started Caplyta. I had dry mouth so bad I had open sores in my mouth and on my tongue. I was also extremely tired all the time. I had to spend a lot of time in bed. Worst of all, it didn't work for my schizophrenia. I developed paranoid thoughts. I discontinued it and went back on Olanzapine and felt better in about three days. Caplyta was not a good drug for me. I was hoping it would be. I am disappointed."

For Bipolar Disorder "I don't think it works for my bipolar depression, it does prevent schizo episodes from forming. (I have schizoaffective bipolar.) The medicine makes me very tired. I can only tolerate 21 mg because of that. Also, the full capsule gives me quite the headache that doesn't respond to Tylenol or Advil. That being said, I strongly prefer it to older antipsychotics, all of which give me severe akathisia."

For Bipolar Disorder "This is a very specialized medication. It’s changing everything for me personally. I work in healthcare and have been on the med merry-go-round for a minimum of 15 years. Diagnosis of MDD, PTSD, anxiety/panic attacks, and bipolar II. While, obviously, if you are having any life-threatening side effects, I highly suggest sticking it out for at least a week. Yes, I had the extremely dry mouth, felt drunk in the AM, dizzy, severely tired for the first 5 days. Then things picked up significantly, to the point where I was afraid I may be experiencing hypomania. Immediately spoke with my psychiatrist (knows me well, 6+ years) and after explaining my feelings/actions, she said that it doesn’t sound like hypomania at all and that, most likely, I am actually feeling happiness for the first time. I have just hit the 2-week mark and am still all over the place as far as sleepy or not, hungry/mildly nauseous; overall, I’m not depressed. TBD but feeling better."

For Bipolar Disorder "First, it has been 6 days, and already my bipolar depression is lifting. I cleaned today, showered, and made food. Crazy if you saw before. I do have a slight headache still. I will say the first night was awful. I have never been so hot in my life. Just my hands and legs. The rest of me was freezing. I was shivering and sweating for almost 20 hours, with red and swollen feet I couldn't walk on. I had one of the worst headaches I have ever had, a severely stuffy nose, and was exhausted, having not slept but maybe an hour that night. I had to call out of work. I decided to try it one more night on the off chance that I was coincidentally sick the night before. I still got a little hot in my feet, but nothing like before. Now, 6 days in, all the side effects are gone, with the exception of a mild headache. It's getting better every day, though. I am already laughing and smiling, today was my first day of motivation, and I'm getting the desire to journal and paint again."

For Bipolar Disorder "This is a BIG no for me. I took ONE capsule and literally could barely walk, I was so tired. Then I woke up with the biggest headache. I couldn't even fathom having to go through a few days of this, let alone possibly weeks."

For Bipolar Disorder "(Prescribed for bipolar II) This was the worst experience I’ve ever had with any prescription ever, and I only took one pill. In common with other antipsychotics I’ve taken in the past, it made me so lethargic I practically felt drunk. But what was so concerning I actually called the doctors after hours was that I felt unbelievably chilled to the bone (and I’m usually always hot). I was in bed freezing despite wearing four blankets, warm fuzzy socks, slippers, pants, two sweatshirts, and a beanie. Before the “drunk” feeling kicked in, I had to drive my son to work up the street, and I was blasting my heat in the car at 86 degrees! My skin began to burn badly. I can’t explain better than it being like on the verge of frostbite but was warm to the touch on the outside. My feet were and still are the worst. It’s been 8 hours since I took the meds, and I’m not too cold anymore, but my feet have felt like they’re on fire so bad I’d love to go stick them bare in the snow."

For Schizophrenia "I have trialed this medication for 8 months and previously had a raving review about weight loss and more manageable symptoms. Problems have arisen since my initial review that have changed my opinion. It costs $2000 out of pocket and is not available in generic, so it is also not the most accessible. This medication raised my prolactin levels outside of the normal range, resulting in visible hair loss (I am a young woman). Raised prolactin levels can also affect fertility, and I could not tolerate either. Taking this medication while in school negatively impacted my schedule and caused me to have to take a medical leave. Immediately after taking the drug, I am extremely exhausted and cannot think. I could not dedicate evenings to getting schoolwork done as needed, due to slow cognition and lethargy immediately after taking. With this medicine, there is initial weight gain and then eventual weight loss, but if you miss a dose or doses, the weight comes right back."

For Bipolar Disorder "I got this medication this week. The first night I took it, and an hour later I had a huge headache, and when I got up, the whole room spun so badly I had to hold onto my bed. The next morning I was getting up for school, and nobody could wake me up for a long time, even shaking me. I eventually woke up and was exhausted even though I had slept 9 hours. I couldn’t even stay awake while on my Adderall prescription and fell asleep doing my makeup on the floor. Then all day people were telling me I looked like I was on something, and I seemed drugged up, and I really felt like I was. I also had a major migraine and extreme dizziness, and the exhaustion stayed the whole day. The third and second day was pretty much the same as the first two, but it just seemed to be getting worse. Supposed to take my fourth dose tonight, but I’m not. Worst med I have ever taken."

For Bipolar Disorder "I'm taking Caplyta for bipolar depression. I am 3 weeks in, and the side effects are kind of rough. Super dry mouth and nausea, constant yawning, and like a shaky feeling. I can tell it's working, but now I'm just noticing the side effects."

For Bipolar Disorder "I have been taking Caplyta since April. I take it with Zoloft. I used to take Latuda before I switched to Caplyta because I kept gaining a lot of weight. On Latuda, I was always hungry. Now, on Caplyta, I almost never feel the need to eat. But I've noticed when I don't eat for several hours, I'm insanely irritable, and I get manic. That's when I realize that I am not only hungry, but starving. I just can't really tell when I'm hungry anymore. I just woke up out of a really deep sleep. I was almost paralyzed with exhaustion even though I got enough hours of sleep, and I was shaking all over, and my head is moving 100 miles a minute because I haven't eaten in over 12 hours. Is this normal?"

For Schizophrenia "Today was my first day taking Caplyta. I ended up in the hospital due to the side effects. I had muscle weakness. I was extremely tired and felt like my head was in a fog. I had a chronic migraine that your over-the-counter medication wouldn't treat. My blood sugar dropped into the 50s. My average blood pressure was 77/55. I fell once at home and twice in the hospital!!! I will not be taking this again!!"

For Bipolar Disorder "I have been on Caplyta 42 mg for about 3 to 4 months. At first, the only side effect I had was when I woke up in the morning. I took it at night, I would feel extremely tired but couldn't nap. It did work for my hallucinations at first, but I always build a resistance to all of the antipsychotics that I've taken. So my hallucinations are back, but now are worse than before. I also noticed that I talk way more than I have in the past. I usually don't talk much. I'm gonna rate it higher than low because it does work, I just am resistant to treatment."

For Bipolar Disorder "Made me more depressed, very tired, and unfocused. Not a good combo for a person with bipolar and ADHD. I tried it for a month before giving up."

For Bipolar Disorder "I’ve been taking Caplyta for almost a month for bipolar depression. I immediately felt better emotionally but have developed a perpetual need to yawn/take a deep breath and a tightness across my upper abdomen. I’ve also noticed tension in the front of my neck and chest. It is not ideal and I am constantly debating these pros and cons. I have more mental clarity than I have had in years, but I am aggravated by yawning or semi-nauseous."
