For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "Had symptoms such as swollen gland on my neck, sore throat. Doctor prescribed amoxicillin 500 mg (to be taken every 8 hrs). Got so much better after three days after taking amoxicillin! But do keep in mind, if you have any symptoms such as rashes, stomach upset, or nausea, stop taking amoxicillin because you might be allergic to this antibiotic."

For Dental Abscess "Took amoxicillin for a dental abscess. Worked to lessen the infection, but day 3 woke up COVERED in horrible, raised, angry, red welts/hives all over my arms. Stopped taking immediately. This is apparently a common side effect and not necessarily a true allergy, but there doesn't seem to be a way to differentiate outside a skin test. Just in case, my dentist switched me to clindamycin. For my purposes, I'm calling it an allergy going forward because it's too scary to risk."

For Dental Abscess "So I’ve been miserable the whole month because I got an extremely painful infection around the gums of one of my bottom wisdom teeth molars because it didn’t erupt fully. WORST PAIN OF MY LIFE! I had to get emergency surgery since antibiotics and salt rinses weren’t resolving the issue. Got all four teeth. Doc prescribed me ibuprofen and amoxicillin so the infection wouldn’t come back. I had to be driven to the hospital by ambulance after I finished the round of amoxicillin the day before. Had an epipen administered into me and IVs of steroids and Benadryl while my heart was being monitored. I have bad hives all over my body. My face swelled, throat was closing up. I went into anaphylactic shock because of this med. I'm allergic to it and almost died. Just beware because there are quite a few people that can be allergic to this family of drugs, so monitor yourself carefully. It was a terrifying experience for me."

For Bacterial Infection "I had a throat infection with white dots and pus at the back of my throat. It was even hard to swallow my own saliva. I went to after hours and was prescribed this drug. After 5 days, I noticed improvement. It wasn't as painful anymore. So it did work. I was to take this medication for 10 days, but on the 8th day, I was experiencing side effects such as hives all over my cheeks and chest. As well as swelling underneath my tongue."

For Middle Ear Infections "Worked great, no side effects. And I previously had amoxicillin rash after about 7 days of taking it, so I successfully took amoxicillin again, finishing the whole course without having recurrence of the rash. It's important to know (which you can read in articles on pubmed.gov) that having the late-onset amoxicillin rash once doesn't mean you will have it the next time you take the drug. With all antibiotics, it's normal to take probiotics or eat yogurt labeled 'with active cultures' to protect yourself from antibiotics-associated diarrhea, but amoxicillin doesn't tend to affect the gram-negative gut bacteria, so it's not as big a concern. Amoxicillin isn't like ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, or moxifloxacin (fluoroquinolones) -- those antibiotics leave people permanently disabled for the rest of their lives."

"The most common side effects of Amoxicillin include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, rash, and itching. Among the rarer and more dangerous Amoxil side effects that might be observed are blood disorders and inflammation of the large intestine. As long as the doctor-prescribed dosage of Amoxil is followed, the chances of adverse symptoms appearing are very low. Amoxicillin is generally a very safe medication."

For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "I took Amoxicillin for 2 days, twice a day, 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening. It definitely healed my tonsils, but it showed other side effects. I stopped taking the medicine after realizing that I'm showing rashes. It's like these little red raised dots on my hands, a few on the back of my hands and a few on the soles of my feet. I hope this wears out soon, though. I would recommend Amoxicillin, but after showing the side effects, it's a negative."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "This was for a prophylactic dose to protect hip replacements. The one and only time I did take only one dose, I had severe stomach cramps, multiple bouts of diarrhea about 12 hours after taking the med. I had also tried Clindamycin, but after taking it for many years each time I needed dental work, I ended up getting a rash over my neck and chest. The next time I had a dental appointment, my doc prescribed Cipro, from which I had no side effects after one dose. Around that time, friends began posting a lot of negative side effects from Cipro on Facebook. I demanded a change and was given Amoxicillin. The first dose caused diarrhea, but with the second one came severe cramps and diarrhea two days post-ingestion. Several days later, I experienced respiratory problems. Wish I knew if it was the Amoxicillin."

For Bacterial Infection "Had strep infection of the throat, doctor prescribed amoxicillin, and within the third day I had gotten a yeast infection and broke out in hives all over my legs, stomach, and arms. I've had amoxicillin before and never had a reaction, I'm not sure if it was the dosage or not, but I stay clear away from it now."

For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "My 9-year-old took this medicine for tonsillitis, she developed the rash after 5 days. It was the worst and still continues. It has been 3 days since not taking the meds, and the rash is still there, but at least we now see signs of it going away. I heard the rash develops because it takes too much good bacteria out of your system, so I gave her a probiotic smoothie in the morning and also yogurt with fruit. Strawberries, mangoes, and oranges are really good. I also put lavender, rose, and blue tansy essential oils on her chest, top of feet, and third eye - not a rub, just a spot. They are really good for calming. I also made her drink tons of water to flush it out of her system. This was the most difficult experience, I wish there were better antibiotics out there or that I knew beforehand what this drug could do."

For Bacterial Infection "I was getting my wisdom teeth removed. The dentist sent me home. I took my first dose of amoxicillin. Put me out. Woke up a few hours later with my body in hives. My skin and mouth started to peel."

Amoxicillin for Pneumonia "I have bacterial pneumonia with 2 spots on my lungs after the flu. Not much nasal involvement. Bad headache, body ache, fever, and chills. Deep dry cough. Started Levaquin by IV at the ER, but within an hour I got hives on my mouth and neck and felt slightly itchy all over, then 3 bouts of projectile vomiting. Then tried Clindamycin but developed hives after 2 days. Both meds helped me feel better, and my headache and fever went away. Now on Amoxicillin-Clav 875, twice a day. Symptoms are very slowly improving. Only a bit of loose stool. Probiotics and a bland diet help."
