For Urinary Tract Infection "Only used this to cure my UTI so it wouldn't spread to a kidney infection. But the side effects are absolutely horrific! I can't deal with this much longer. I'm supposed to take 500 mg/3x a day for 7 days, but I'm cutting it short. I'll do it for 5 days because it's day 3, and I already want to stop it. My side effects: • All day long nausea • Extreme constipation • Abdominal cramping/pain from the gas trapped and constipation • Difficulty fluctuating • NO appetite whatsoever, every food sounds disgusting and hard to eat • Anxiety and fear mixed with deep sadness • Fatigued and weak • Feeling like I'm slowly dying but trying to make it through each day, day by day • Debilitating - I hardly want to go out and do anything, need to sit out a lot."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I thought amoxicillin was pretty mild. I asked for it when my urologist prescribed a Cipro-family antibiotic (I think those are really dangerous!)... wrong. I took the amoxicillin 500 mg 2X/day for 8 days and had to stop. It seemed to stop my UTI (first one ever and I have been on catheters for 2 years), but I didn't expect the side effects of rapid heart rate all the time, anxiety from low grade to intense most of the time, it made me feel weak and nauseous, guts in turmoil, eating anything made it worse, so I had to stop. I had no idea this drug had those side effects for many! Avoid!"

For Dental Abscess "Every time I take Amoxicillin, I get stomach/abdomen problems and can't control my bowels. Also, I feel very anxious and can't think straight. I try not to do anything important, as I can't focus at all. Other people I know have also experienced this (thankfully), as I thought I was getting mentally ill! These antibiotics really make you feel low, but they work! I was prescribed 3 x 500 mg for a week after dental extraction but could only manage to take 2 a day. I quit after 4 days, though I know it's important to take the whole course. I try to stay out of the sun when I'm on this drug, as symptoms are worse if you sunbathe."

For Middle Ear Infections "Although the swelling in my ear has gone down greatly, I'm four days into treatment and still in pain, and my ear will not drain even though I can feel the fluid. This medicine is making me feel VERY ill: nauseous, dizzy, loopy, and very anxious."

For Sinusitis "Had to take this 3 times a day for 21 days. Only used it for 3 days. Had side effects. Stomach upset, intestinal upset, headache, and felt anxious. I've used it before years ago with no problems, but this time it's a no go. I guess our systems change as the years go on."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was 2 1/2 days into taking 500 mg of amoxicillin twice a day. I had sweating, anxiety, panic attacks, had to stop, given I am not the coolest of people and this tipped me over the edge. But in amoxicillin's defense, it did in the short space stop the burning wee. As for whether it's totally cured the UTI, I do not know. I need a break before trying the Nitrofurantoin they now have prescribed."

For Sinusitis "I've taken amoxicillin with clavulanic acid twice before and had awful vomiting and diarrhea. My doctor prescribed it recently without clav (500 mg) to see if that was causing GI problems. Nope. It was the amoxicillin. I took 1 pill with food and water at 6 PM and was violently vomiting at 9:45 for about an hour. I was vomiting so much that my blood pressure dropped so low (83 over something) I almost passed out. Then I couldn't breathe (either from the pill or anxiety about almost passing out). Then the burning stomach cramps and diarrhea started, which was coming out like a fire hose. I ended up calling 911 because I was so sick. Had to give me Benadryl and an IV drip. I will never take this stuff again. I obviously can't handle a single pill of it!"

For Dental Abscess "I have 4 impacted teeth in my jaw, and I've been experiencing pain. Along with a painkiller, a doctor prescribed me amoxicillin as a precaution until I speak to the oral surgeon. I feel like the jaw pain may have eased, but I've also got new problems like headache, intestinal and stomach pain, bloating, shakiness, and anxiety I can only contribute to the side effects of amoxicillin."

For Bacterial Infection "Got a bacterial infection on my right tonsil and was prescribed to take amoxicillin 500 mg, 10 tablets, 3 a day. Need to be taken until finished. In total, I had to spend from Friday to Monday to finish the medication. I got no symptoms except fatigue on Friday. On Saturday, I got nausea, stomach ache, fatigue, sore muscles, heart palpitations, anxiety attack, and trouble sleeping. On Sunday, I got all of the symptoms mentioned plus a severe headache. On Monday, the headache was gone, but the rest of the symptoms stayed, but the infection is cured. It's been two days after finishing the medication, and the remaining symptoms are still hanging around. Cool med but has hellish side effects."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I'm on Day 5 out of 7 and am calling it quits and trying a different one tomorrow. The side effects hit me all at once on Day 3. I got extreme exhaustion and muscle weakness. I couldn't even lift my arms without feeling exhausted. I got really irritable and had extreme mood swings (yelling, crying). I got heart palpitations and extreme anxiety/paranoia. Strange rubber feeling in my mouth, weird thoughts. On Day 4, I started hallucinating a bit (nothing extreme but it was terrifying). Every muscle in my body aches. Oh, and I checked to see if my infection improved with an at-home test, and it's still there! I quit, this is honestly the worst drug I have ever had in my life and didn't do anything. I can't wait for this to wear off."
