Quetiapine for Depression "I am diagnosed with BPD, severe anxiety, and depression. I've tried multiple antidepressants before, and none of them worked for me. My doctor prescribed me 50 mg of Seroquel XR, and I take it before going to sleep. I have now been taking it for 3 months, and it literally saved my life. I've experienced some side effects at first, but now that my body is used to the medication, I feel so much better. I can go out, see friends, and do a lot of things I couldn't even think about doing 2 months ago. In contrast to a lot of people, I didn't gain weight yet, I even lost some. It also helps my mood swings and my dissociation. The only negative thing I can think of is the tiredness. But, if I get out of bed right away, I'm good for the day. I can recommend not to take it too late because it can make it hard to wake up in the morning. In conclusion, I think it's a great medication, and even if you're scared to take it, just give it a try and let it time to start working."

For Insomnia "5 years on Trazodone and quetiapine for sleep. 50mg-75... A month ago, I decided to start the process, with my doctor's approval, to decrease my dosage. 37.5mg for 3 weeks, 4 weeks later 12mg, 4 weeks later I'm done. Last night was the first night. Woke up 1.5 hours earlier. And a little out of sorts. But I know this will pass. The traz, I'm on 1/2 tab, soon I'll be off of that. It can be done. Put tabs of melatonin in the pill holder or bottle instead. You have to get off this stuff. And you will."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I noticed this pill started working for me within the first week. I've been on it now for 4 weeks and have noticed a big change. I was taking Ativan every day for a month before I started taking this medication as my anxiety and intrusive thoughts were out of control. I haven't had to take Ativan for 3 weeks now and am feeling so much better, and back to my happy self. I'm on the lowest dose you can be on. So happy I gave this a go! Looking forward to the future of feeling good and less anxiety."

Quetiapine for Bipolar Disorder "I have struggled with depression and anxiety for about 14 years (I am 27). The past 2 years have been the hardest. I have been suicidal every day and had lost all hope. For about 10 months, I have been on: Lexapro for 3 months, then Effexor for 3 months, and now Pristiq for 4 months. I have also had regular talk therapy with a psychologist. About a month ago, a psychiatrist prescribed Seroquel 25mg as an add-on to my Pristiq. The past 4 weeks have been the best I have felt in many years. I feel much lighter (as in, the heaviness of depression has lifted), much more positive. I haven't been ruminating about the past. Seroquel has truly made a world of difference. I truly think it's very possible I could have ended up suicidal eventually without it. It's only been 4 weeks, but hopefully the effects continue. It's worth a try if nothing else has worked."

For Insomnia "I’ve been taking quetiapine for over 3 years, and it absolutely has helped me sleep. I began on a 25mg dosage but self-reduced the pills to a quarter dosage to wean myself off of them about 3 months into my prescription. What worries me is that if I forget to take my little 6.25mg portion of the pill, then I wake up after 2 hours of sleep each and every time. After trying for 3 or 4 days, I become so tired that I start using them again. These work well, just too well."

For Insomnia "After years of chronic insomnia, my GP prescribed 25mg of Quetiapine. It's been a miracle drug for me. Still waking in the night, but able to go back to sleep and get a full 8 hours. Godsend is all I can say :) Only weird thing is that I have a lot more vivid dreams - weird!"

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "Best drug/antidepressant I've taken for my generalized anxiety. Originally started taking 12.5mg a couple of years ago for insomnia. Now I take 25mg in the morning and 25mg in the evening. It took about 5 days to have a noticeable effect on my anxiety. My compulsive worrying now feels controllable and I feel much calmer. It's the only antidepressant I've taken without experiencing major side effects, other than some grogginess at first. I came off it for 3 months without withdrawal symptoms after a year, so don't be afraid to try it! I'm 21."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I used to have terrible anxiety and racing thoughts and would break down crying every day. I started taking 25mg of Quetiapine every night and I am no longer anxious. I have a great sleep every night and wake up feeling awesome. I don't need Ativan anymore for panic attacks as they have ceased completely. I tried Wellbutrin for a while and it made me crazy...for anyone who is nervous about taking an antidepressant or benzos I would highly recommend this medication. I feel like myself - no tremor or fogginess or zombie-like feelings. Occasionally my legs feel a bit restless but I can deal with that. No issues if I don't take it for a night and want to go for drinks or something. No issues with weight gain. Highly recommend! I got my life back."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I started taking Seroquel about a year ago to help with insomnia caused by OCD and anxiety. It helped me incredibly. I took either 25 mg or 50 mg each night to help me sleep. It has helped so much with my OCD and taken the edge away from my anxiety. I used to get very fixated on intrusive thoughts to the point where I couldn't sleep, but with this medication, I can actually slow my thinking down, rationalize, and calm down. I just want to say, if you’re struggling with OCD and anxiety and cannot sleep, please reach out for help. Sleep deprivation can worsen your symptoms and thinking! Please reach out for help if you are struggling with any kind of mental health issue."

Quetiapine for Schizoaffective Disorder "Seroquel saved my life. I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder at 16 (I'm 18 now) and I've tried almost all second-generation antipsychotics since I was 13. All made me experience horrid side effects (extrapyramidal effects, paranoia, vomiting, emotionally flat). Seroquel, within 2 days of taking it, helped me feel relatively normal...with no akathisia/extrapyramidal effects. I can sleep, I don't feel anywhere as paranoid, the delusions have significantly decreased. The only thing that is a little funky is the hunger, but I can manage that. This drug has helped me live a normal life. I'm at 300mg now, and this is my safe spot. For anyone considering this medication, go for it. It's the only antipsychotic that has not made me crawl out of my skin and 'die' mentally. Genuinely a wonderful drug."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I started this med quetiapine about 3 wks ago at a dose of 25mg. I go to sleep shortly after taking it but wake up during the night for an hour or so and sometimes find it hard to get back to sleep. It has reduced my anxiety and I find myself being more friendly/open. I have lost weight and seem to eat less also. I also take effexor 150mg."

For Insomnia "Got prescribed this for sleep after trazodone failed to help. It is VERY powerful at the 25mg dose for me. Please let your psych know if you have frequent or strong side effects to medicine before using. It knocks me out and keeps me asleep, but makes me VERY groggy in the morning, like I am hungover, and makes me hungry while I'm getting drowsy. Be sure to go straight to bed after you take it to combat eating and risks of dizziness."

Quetiapine for Bipolar Disorder "I have bipolar mania with stages of depression. It has been like this since I was very young. It comes along with episodes of mood swings. I am on 25 mg of Seroquel now and have been on both 50 mg and 100 mg. 25 mg does great things for me. No more sleepless nights. No more intense spending sprees. No more major anxiety most of the time. A lot less depression and a lot less irritability I experienced as well. I get tired and a little unmotivated in the morning, but I have coffee and breakfast and I'm good. Weight gain is the other concern but I have controlled it with walking good amounts each day. Well worth a try and definitely something to consider for a bipolar patient."

For Insomnia "I've been on it for a week and a half for insomnia. Taking 75 mg per night and helps with sleep but can often wake and not get back to sleep after only an hour. Have felt increased anxiety the next day which is worse than when I don't sleep at all. I haven't been diagnosed with any particular mental illness but would consider myself to have some form of PTSD. My thoughts are not normal and have increasingly intrusive thoughts and ruminations. Will be getting off this from today and hopefully on something that levels me out and helps me sleep. Strange how we all react so differently"

Quetiapine for Bipolar Disorder "I too gained masses of weight taking Seroquel but lost it all (35lb) in 6 months by healthy eating & being AWARE of the pitfalls. Seroquel does not make you gain weight. Seroquel makes you crazy HUNGRY craving all the bad stuff - salt/sugar/fried food for me. The secret is to ANTICIPATE your munchies. Prepare a large but healthy snack in advance or save half your evening meal and have it at bedtime just before you take your meds. This really worked for me. Taking my meds on a full stomach took the cravings away."

Quetiapine for Bipolar Disorder "Started at 25mg, felt groggy in the AM, but it passed after a week. Then increased to 50mg. My moods are stable, but I don't feel drugged up. At least I'm sleeping well now. At this dose, it still lets me express emotions. Doesn't interfere with my daily activities at all. Just wish I'd taken it years ago."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I have never left a review on a medication before in my life, but after a year on this med, I felt I had to. I am a 32-year-old female who has suffered with anxiety and panic disorder/agoraphobia my whole life. It got so bad that I dropped out of grad school a few years ago and was completely housebound with panic and derealization, and I was fainting from the attacks in public! No medicine ever worked for me until I tried Seroquel. Hands down, it gave me my life back. I can drive, I can go to my kids' school and functions alone, I can socialize again. I feel totally free! I was SO scared of starting this drug but it has been my lifeline! The ONLY downside has been the weight gain-- 15 lbs that won't budge :("

Quetiapine for Bipolar Disorder "Got diagnosed with bipolar disorder three months ago, and started on Seroquel 50 mg at night. It has helped me a lot, and I feel like a totally different person (in a good way - I've suffered for 10 years!). At first, I just thought I was in a 'normal' phase (not manic or depressive) - but the depressions usually sneak up on me after a few weeks when I've felt normal before. Not had any side effects, other than restless legs syndrome, but I've had that before, so it wasn't a biggie. This side effect has also almost disappeared after a few months. Was so scared of weight gain, but I watched what I eat, and work out a lot, instead I've gotten skinnier and healthier. Thumbs up! I got my life back!"

Quetiapine for Depression "I have only been on Seroquel 25 mg for just over a week. So I cannot say if I will experience the weight gain or not. But so far, this is the best thing that's worked for me. I was horrifically depressed and anxious for over a year, and before that moderately. But after just 1 day on the Seroquel, I felt a huge difference. My thoughts had slowed down, my anxiety and depression got cut in half, my appreciation of time and continuity came back a bit, and the disassociation was appeased. For the past year, I felt like I was on one giant bad paranoia trip, and only after I started taking this medicine did I start feeling normal again. There are still major things that are a problem, but the Seroquel makes it way more manageable."

Quetiapine for Schizoaffective Disorder "10 years ago, while in college, I had a marijuana-induced psychosis (didn't know this was possible) & wound up in the ER. Don't remember 95% of events, but apparently I thought the hospital staff was trying to kill me, was uncooperative & pulling IVs out of my arm. They had an officer restrain me & he decided it was a good idea to tase me in the head. I fell down and suffered a fractured skull, concussion & the next day my nightmare began. I developed PTSD, couldn't sleep, panic attacks, hyper-vigilance, etc. I was close to ending my life when I found a $300/hr Psych. who started me on Seroquel immediately. Within 24 hrs, I felt almost as good as before the incident happened. I was on it for a year and stopped as the doc told me I could stop if I didn't have any psychoses in that time. Very grateful for that doc and Seroquel. Everyone should have medical care like I found regardless of their ability to pay $300/hr; fortunately, my parents could afford it."

For Insomnia "Now I realize my experience is somewhat limited, but if my doctor had not prescribed it for me about four days ago, I might be typing from a rubber room. Because of certain very stressful life events, I began to experience insomnia about two months ago. For those two months, I was getting approximately 3 hours of fragmented sleep a night. I started taking 50 mgs of this medicine four nights ago, and I'm getting 7-8 hours of sleep per night. This medicine broke the anxiety > insomnia > anxiety > insomnia cycle. Once you're in the circle of that cyclical hell, it's very difficult to break out of it."

For Insomnia "Seroquel saved my life. Due to PTSD, I have had insomnia for over 7 years. It was so bad, I felt crazy and unstable. I contemplated suicide daily, and I couldn't function. I was finally able to sleep with Seroquel after trying everything else. Unfortunately, it made me gain a lot of weight, and I have very irregular periods. I don't want to continue long-term, but it does help me sleep at night. I could not function without it."

Quetiapine for Bipolar Disorder "I have Chronic Insomnia, Mania from Bipolar Disorder. Seroquel is effective for my insomnia and mania/mood swings. I take my 100mg dose of Seroquel at night at 9pm. I find that taking my dose at this time significantly reduces the groggy side effects in the morning, allowing me to wake up feeling refreshed and well, ready and with the energy I need to start my day. I also do not experience the Seroquel “munchies” that many report to experience. I am not a doctor or a practitioner of health and medicine, therefore, it is not my place to recommend others to take this. It is also not my place to tell others not to take it. For me, it had a very beneficial effect on my life and functionality. My experience has been positive, but it may not be for you. Also, everyone take your meds as prescribed. If you don’t feel a benefit, don’t stop it on your own terms. Express this to your doctor. They know more than you. Set alarms to make sure you take it consistently daily."

Quetiapine for Borderline Personality Disorder "Seroquel has completely changed my life for the better. I was recently diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. It didn't really matter what label the psychiatrist gave me as I already knew and understood my problem to be unbearable pain - regardless of any formal title. I experienced racing and obsessive thoughts, acute paranoia, immeasurable anxiety, and the terrible lows, gripped by depression. Unstable, rapid emotions and was tired, having had to live with this unrecognized illness. I reached a point where not only did I want to die, but I seriously considered taking the life of my child also and had reached a definite crisis. I've been taking it for only three months and I'm unrecognizable to the person I once was. I value life and feel amazing about myself and endless possibilities for the future."

For Borderline Personality Disorder "I’ve been taking 25mg of Quetiapine at night for a month. I was wary of the weight gain, however, I have not gained any weight. I do watch what I eat and walk for around 30 mins to 1 hr every day. I think it’s best to take it at night as it does make you very sleepy. I do feel some slight hunger, so it’s best to take it at night to avoid urges to eat or overeat. In terms of mental health, it has completely changed my life. I went from crying for hours a day and torturing myself with overthinking, to finally being able to feel grounded and live my life like a ‘normal’ person. I haven’t changed, and I’m not ‘doped’ out all the time as some people may imagine when someone takes a drug like this. I actually feel positive about my life, and it has allowed me to have some hope for overcoming BPD or managing my symptoms. I would definitely recommend this drug. However, I am aware that people have different reactions, but for me, it’s been very beneficial, and I hope my review can help someone else too."
