Synthroid (levothyroxine) "Suffering for years from all symptoms of hypothryroidism and mother has Hashimoto's. Finally doctor did thyroid tests. My thyroid peroxidase asb level was 170 but Free T4 and T3 within normal range. Doc prescribed 100mg Synthroid to start. Wow! In three days I could tell a difference. I rated Synthroid 8 of 10. Time will tell if I have side effects, but for the time being after one week on Synthroid I feel like a new person."

Euthyrox (levothyroxine) "has not relieved any of my symptoms from hashimoto's. Recently I have been getting severe leg muscle, and joint pains. It was not until my son started jot down all of my symptoms that I thought were not related, he figured out that my medication was not doing its job. I originally was on synthroid and switched off because of the cost of it even with insurance and I was having regular side effects from the pills."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) "Synthroid has changed my life – from 16 hours/day in bed to being an active medical school student. The only side effect I have experienced is dry eye in the mornings, but that is fine with the use of artificial tears. I used Synthroid for my Hashimoto's and now continue to use it post-thyroidectomy. I only use the Synthroid name brand because generics could be made at different labs and will not be exactly the same every month. Talk to your doctor about using generics. My doctors only prescribe the name brand for me because it is important to have constant thyroid hormone levels."

Tirosint (levothyroxine) "I was started on levothyroxin, then Armour and my symptoms were worse than before medication. Tirosint literally gave me my life back. Then new insurance made me try naturethroid. Back to the same misery that plagued me the better part of the year. Whatever the cause or effect in chemistry I am immediately changing back. Brain fog, sore muscles lethargy, fatigue, constant hunger, weight gain. Never again will I try another medicine."

Levoxyl (levothyroxine) "Taking Levoxyl for about 6 months, and unfortunately not working for me. The stomach pain is unbearable at times and unpredictable. Hair loss, spasms, vivid dreams, headaches, that horrid brain fog. (Hashimoto causes hair loss, including the medication. Make sure your iron levels are optimal.) These are just a few of a long list of side effects. Took synthroid for about 2 years and it worked to some degree, but hair loss was a nightmare and the lactose coating was a no for me-continuous digestive issues. Digestive issues with Levoxyl is enough to get me seek other treatment."

"My mother and I both have hypothyroidism and our pharmacy switched our levothyroxine to Lupin brand. Months after taking the new pill, we were ill again. We experienced all of the symptoms we had before being diagnosed and medicated. Extreme exhaustion, weight issues, brain fog, and generally feeling sick. I feel that this “medication” isn’t even medication. It is terrible. After calling around to different pharmacies, we found the old brand we took before and now we are feeling 100% again."

Tirosint (levothyroxine) "I have hashimotos/hypothyroid and have been on Tirosint after being on synthroid for the first 7 weeks of my diagnosis. I have been on it for 5 years and absolutely love it. No reaction as there are no fillers or dyes like the other synthetic drugs. Most recently my Doctor added a little T3 and I have never felt better."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) "I was on this medicine for about 6 months and in that time I felt worse than when I wasn't taking it. It took the migraines away but I still had muscle aches, fatigue, hair loss, dry skin, brittle nails and more. The huge symptom I had on this medicine that bothered me is the depression. I felt dread and doom everyday. I couldn't take it anymore, so I stopped taking it, then I went to a different doctor that prescribed me Armour."

Tirosint (levothyroxine) "I thought this med would be my silver bullet ! I was so relieved and excited to try it. 5 months in and no difference whatsoever! Even after multiple increases in dosage. Terribly disappointing as I had to fight to get it with insurance etc ect etc and it is not cheap ! I feel I am out of options as generic levo did nothing and I’ve also tried unithroid and armor, which was worse than all of them combined ! Armor is not worth all the praise it receives. I’m at a loss now. Gained over 25 MORE pounds on this tirosint!"

Tirosint (levothyroxine) "I was on Levoxyl for 15 years and had terrible side effects of reflux, asthma symptoms. The doctors had to put me on all kinds of asthma and GERD medications. Turns out it was the Levoxyl causing all those symptoms. Been on Tirosint for about 2 years and now off all GERD and asthma medications. My endo did not believe there was a correlation, I don't see her anymore. I feel pretty good on Tirosint, my new endo just upped my dosage, so hopefully I'll start losing some of the weight I gained when old endo put me on a lower dose. All in all, I'd rather pay a higher price and feel better than have to deal with all the side effects from the Levoxyl."

Tirosint (levothyroxine) "I was on levothyroxine for 10 years and it never did anything for me. My levels were never optimal and I continued to gain weight, be depressed, and waste money on a useless drug. So far with the Tirosint my only side effect is a slight headache. For the first time in my life my hormone levels are excellent, but my wallet is empty. Tirosint is ridiculously expensive. I use a compounding house which sells a month supply to me for $68 (Willow), as opposed to the $125 per month that CVS wanted. I feel the price is a disgrace and something needs to be done about this. I have insurance that does not cover this drug (BCBS). My doctor gave me a discount coupon for $35 a month but Blue Cross Blue Shield would not honor it. Ask your doc for this."

Levoxyl (levothyroxine) "I thought I was having a heart attack. Flushing, sweaty, feeling feverish, heart palpitations, those symptoms seem to bring on the dizziness which lead to nausea and vomiting. The worst experience of my life. Actually past out multiple times and this was my only medication I was taking. The actual put me on blood pressure medication and once I stopped this medication I no longer needed blood pressure medication."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) "My hashimotos with benign nodule was found after losing my twins to early delivery. Endo believes this was a missed factor in my loss. My TSH was over 4. Started on levothyroxine 100 mcg was great for 2 months but by the third month my blood sugars dropped, heart was racing (palpitations ), body itching like the burn you feel after a workout, my hair was falling out, severe anxiety and I was losing 2 lbs every few days (that part I didn't mind). I was insistent to check my TSH and it was 0.27 adjusted down to 88 mcg with an extra half tab once a week. My TSH is now 2.2 but I feel the depression and fatigue. Adjusting back up to 100 since it's been 3 years. At least now I know what to watch for. I no longer experience PCOS OR DM 2."

Levoxyl (levothyroxine) "I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's about seven years ago, nine months after giving birth. I was so tired, losing hair, had terrible brain fog and was very irritable. My doctor placed me on Levoxyl 110. My symptoms went away fairly quickly (2 weeks) but then I started having panic attacks. She reduced me to 88mcg and the anxiety went away. I stayed on that dose for the next seven years. Though my blood work showed normal, I was still always cold, found it hard to wake up in the mornings and would feel lethargic after workouts. I convinced my new doctor to let me try the next higher dose - 100mcg. I feel so much better now. My feet are never cold, I don't lose hair and I am back to being a morning person. Blood work AND symptoms must be addressed."

Levoxyl (levothyroxine) "I have been on this medication for 22 years. It took about 2 years of taking medication for me to feel normal in the beginning. My hair and skin are great and I have good cognition and energy levels. I have a busy job and I feel great and energetic. I have always maintained a normal weight and look young for my age. The only side effect I have found is I feel the cold. If you don’t mind putting the heating on I can definitely recommend."

Tirosint (levothyroxine) "I was so exited to find this medication. I had previously been on synthroid and it's generic for over 20 years with no problems and suddenly became intolerant with debilitating side effects. We tried adding Cytemel which cause terrible heart palps and then tried Armour also causing terrible heart palps and chest pain, both meds were reduced greatly with the same effect. I finally found Tirosint and did wonderfully on it for over 6 months, then my stomach had severe issues, through specialists and so many tests, treatments and a whole lot of money we finally stopped Tirosint on a whim. I'm all better stomach wise, but out of options otherwise. Since even compounded T4 uses fillers, I have no more options."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) "I've taken name brand Synthroid for 30 years now. At first, when I was on the lower dosages, the 25 and 50 mcg, it seemed to work fine. Then suddenly, my TSH went up and I was referred to a new endocrine doctor, and we raised my dosage to 75 mcg. This caused palpitations and severe anxiety, so we went down to 62.5 mcg (125 mcg cut in half). I've been on 62.5 for a while now, and I'm frustrated. After my dosage kept going up, I've gained 10 lbs over a few weeks. I've also developed a constantly bloated abdomen and face, heartburn, constant hunger which I manage by staying on 1200 calories a day and no snacking. I also work out daily. I've been tested for H. Pylori, SIBO, celiac, food intolerances, etc. and no answers. I think this medication causes all of these issues at higher dosages. My current TSH is 1.4, but I am going to see if I can try something else or try alternating with a lower dosage. I'm tired of waking up to my clothes not fitting and constantly looking pregnant."

Euthyrox (levothyroxine) "I am so thankful I found this page. I literally thought something was seriously wrong. I have had the same exact experience as all the 1 star reviews. Unfortunately, I have been too ignorant of the change to put how I am feeling and the med switch together until now. I would give a negative number on effectiveness of this drug if I could. It was like taking a sugar pill."

Tirosint (levothyroxine) "So I’m still very new to trying tirosint, I started on 100mcg which I personally felt was way too much! I had my doctor send over for a lower dose of 25mcg. It is still to new to really say besides it makes me cold where with out it I’m hot or having hot flash type symptoms. I really want to know why the company packages it in an odd number. A pack is 28 and not 30. My pharmacy is charging for a 30 day pack but I’m getting 28 days worth???? Is there some class action suit needed to be taken on the drug company or cvs pharmacy ?!?"

Tirosint (levothyroxine) "ON Tiroaint for about 4 months. I certainly have more energy. I have been on synthroid, levoxyl, lecothyroxine and nature throid, this seems to work the best. BUT_ I keep getting rashes in odd places, like my chest and now the backs of my shins, I am starting to think it is the meds as I have not switched detergents and the one I use is free of scent and dyes. Anyone else suffer with rashes on Tirosint. I won't stop, because the rash is better than the way I felt before Tirosint."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) "I have been on Synthroid and the generic for eleven years. If you ever suffered from the effects of thyroid disease you probably know the depression and fatigue that I felt 11 years ago. I only noticed two side effects. One was an interaction with birth control, the other was my hair wouldn't perm well anymore (small price to pay)."

It is very pricy here $153.00 was for a 28 day supply now has changed to a 30 day supply. ( I do not have insurance currently.). With insurance I was paying $83.00 a month."
