Esomeprazole "I've had GERD since I was 14, and I had tried all sorts of OTC and prescription medicines. Most of them worked okay, but I would still have to pop a few Tums before I went to bed. After starting on Nexium, I feel great! I've yet to have any signs of heartburn, and I haven't had any side effects. This is the most expensive prescription I've had, but the cost is well worth it."

Esomeprazole "I started with really bad nausea and sick to my stomach. When I went to my GI doctor, I was diagnosed with duodenitis and chronic gastritis. I was so sick with nausea twenty-four seven, I literally felt like I was going to die. I actually told my GI to prescribe me Nexium 40 mg. My GI was hesitant, but I insisted. I took it for about a month and a half, and on my second endoscopy, my chronic gastritis had gone down to mild gastritis, and the nausea is almost gone. Nexium really helped me. I don't know about the side effects since I took it at night. But the nausea was still persistent, it's just now going away. I can tell you this is one of the best medicines. Stops the acid production by 95 percent-something I had to find out on my own. Good luck."

Esomeprazole "I have been taking Nexium for over 14 years now and cannot speak highly enough of this drug. Before Nexium, I was eating Quikzee like they were lollies. Now, one 20mg dose all this time daily, with the only side effect being gas in the mornings. This has been a wonder drug for me."

Esomeprazole "I was taking pantoprazole in October, and it helped with the acid reflux. After taking it for a week, I started having burning in my arm, shoulder, legs, and stomach. But like a crazy person, I kept taking it. I started having anxiety, and I started losing weight - 18 pounds within one month. But eventually, I got myself off of it and started taking Nexium, and it did not work either, I started losing patches of my hair. I started researching both medications, and they both were in the worst pill list. I’m now taking Zantac 150, hopefully, this will work."

Esomeprazole "Taking for the first time, started 6 days ago, and it is not helping and seems to be making the condition worse. Lots of swallowing, stomach noises, dry cough, and lack of energy. Disappointed. Is it safe to just discontinue use?"

Esomeprazole "Asthma physician prescribed Nexium 40 mg for me after I needed to use my asthma inhaler 4 times a day. Over time, I was diagnosed with long-standing hiatal hernia and GERD. I continue to use Nexium to manage my breakthrough reflux, and the result has been wonderful for me, save for occasional nuisance bloating. Thanks."

Esomeprazole "I was prescribed the generic brand of Nexium, it worked once I was taking it properly. I thought I could stop after a while, but I would truly not be able to eat or sleep through the night if I was not taking this pill. Though I take it daily, on rare occasions I have an episode of running to the bathroom to throw up at night. I have noticed no side effects and have been taking it for a year or a little longer."

Esomeprazole "Omg, I am so glad I found this website!! I took Nexium 20mg 24hr for 2 weeks, then my GI put me on 40mg, and after taking it for 1 week, I thought I was going crazy with all these horrible side effects such as anxiety, muscle twitches, bloating, belching, insomnia, heart palpitations, and much more!! Ended up in the ER, did an ultrasound and bloodwork, and nothing came up, so they must have thought I was faking it. It raises my blood pressure, makes me so fatigued that some days I couldn’t even get out of bed. My mouth and eyes were so dry, brain fog, and confusion…. Just HORRIBLE!! I’m so glad I went on here and found all these reviews, I will stop taking it!"

Esomeprazole "After a couple of hours of taking Nexium, I began to feel nauseous, another hour or so later, I vomited. Then the diarrhea started. Watery and urgent, I couldn't leave the house. I have tried this medicine several times, and every time I have had the same reaction. It is the worst medicine I have ever been prescribed, and I am going to destroy the ones I have left. The dosage I was prescribed was 40 mg, and this may well be too much, but I will not try to take it again."

Esomeprazole "Diagnosed with acid hitting my throat (LPR). Have a small stomach hernia that is not allowing sphincter to close. It was a rough 6 months till I was diagnosed. 3 doctors insisted I had allergies. Found another doctor that finally advised I had 'silent acid reflux.' Have cut out all the usual foods that cause more acid, but in my case, my ears hurt (they tell me you have lots of nerves through the throat that go up to the ears and sinuses). Symptoms are: burning ears, flaring up through the sinuses, pain in the back of the neck up through the top of the back of my head. Have been on Nexium for 3 months. It helped, but flaring returns 10-50%. Have come off Nexium to do the tests on how my GI is working. Nexium helped, but lots of side effects."

Esomeprazole "I started taking Nexium in my teens (20 years ago) for persistent acid reflux. At the time, it relieved the nausea I was experiencing, and I used it on and off for about 7 years before stopping completely. One thing I did suffer with during those 7 years was chronic diarrhea, which at the time was diagnosed as IBS. After I stopped Nexium completely, the pattern of chronic diarrhea went away. That is until this past year when I was re-prescribed Nexium to deal with heartburn. When it works, Nexium is great, and I have no problem tolerating the side effects to gain what relief I can from reflux. However, I've noticed this time around it's working very slowly to alleviate my heartburn pain, if it alleviates it at all, and it's made dealing with any side effects increasingly frustrating."

Esomeprazole "I took this 20 mg twice a day as recommended by my doctor, and within 4 days I had palpitations, insomnia, extreme anxiety, dizziness, nausea, and pins and needles in my neck and legs. Worse was at night when trying to lie down, when there would be pressure in my head and chest, and violent dizziness and nausea. I had two weeks of only sleeping 2 hours a night and peaked with 2 successive nights of no sleep and a visit to Accident & Emergency. Suddenly realized it was the tablets and stopped them, effects slowly going and sleeping at last."

Esomeprazole "Please be aware that this medication can cause anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. Supposedly, it is a rare side effect, but I don’t have any allergies, and I’ve never reacted to a medication like that before. When I was 19 years old (now 28), I had major stomach issues. I was diagnosed with gastritis and given this medication. I will never forget how it made me feel. I never want to feel like that again. I stayed up all night crying and staring out the window, wishing I could just leave this world. I’m normally a very happy and content person. I will never ever take Nexium again. My doctor was able to give me another medication that made me better, but I can’t remember what it was called. I only remember Nexium because of how horrible it was. The best way to describe it is Nexium made me feel like I was going crazy."

Esomeprazole "I have been using Miralax and psyllium every night for about a year and wanted to try Linzess, but my doctor was hesitant to let me try it. Possible side effects. Anyway, after some research, I realized the Nexium I have been using causes a magnesium deficiency. So now I take a multi-mineral capsule and a 500 mg magnesium capsule three times a day with meals. I have been able to cut back on my prescribed medications and have some hope that I will be able to get off them completely by adjusting my mineral intake. Try this because your bowels cannot function without enough minerals."

Esomeprazole "I took Nexium for all of three days. In that time, I found it to be extremely effective in managing my reflux/stomach symptoms. However, within a day, I noticed severe anxiety surfacing. I take Aropax (paroxetine) for depression, and this is not on the list of medications that are counterindicative. I do note that being magnesium deficient is, but my doctor would not care enough to know that I have always had this deficiency. I do not normally suffer from headaches but began to have gentle pains in my head, getting worse over time. The head pain and anxiety lasted as long as the effect on my stomach, which was a number of days after I stopped taking the medication."

Esomeprazole "I have had GERD since I was 19 years old. For some reason, I eat ketchup with everything. I am 31 now. I've used Nexium in the past, and my acid reflux always went away. Recently, I've had upper back pains, cold chills, stomach and heartburns, and the worst belly pain ever after I ate. The doctor sent me for a blood test, which came back negative for any infections. I was placed on Nexium. Within 2 days, I felt much better. I would recommend this for anyone. Wish I had tried it before I did the ultrasound of my kidney, liver, and gallbladder, together with a chest X-ray. I guess you've got to pay a high price for a good product like Nexium. But I don't mind. I feel much better now."

Esomeprazole "I was diagnosed with laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) in 2018, in my mid-40s. This surprised me because I had zero problems with reflux in my life, and in fact, never experienced heartburn ever. The doctor advised I take Nexium for my LPR, as well as abruptly cut out caffeine. The result was disastrous. I abruptly developed a crippling anxiety, depression, and anhedonia (lack of ability to feel pleasure) problem, about a week later. I never had any of these conditions prior to taking Nexium and cutting out the caffeine! After about a few weeks, I tried quitting first the Nexium and then later bringing back the caffeine. A few days after doing both, my psychological condition rapidly improved. However, at the time, I attributed my issues to being from caffeine withdrawal, and not the Nexium. Wrong! I ended up being given Nexium again for something different, and the anxiety started to return! I quickly quit it, and went back to normal. If it makes you feel anxious, quit it now!"

Esomeprazole "I was prescribed this for a possible stomach ulcer and GERD. Within 30 minutes of taking this, I had sharp chest pains when inhaling. The ER doctor said it was a panic attack - it wasn’t, not my usual panic attack symptoms. My doctor told me I was her second patient to experience that with the drug. Never took it again. Was then prescribed Zantac without issues, but it is being recalled now. Not sure what else to take besides Tums."

Esomeprazole "Nexium seemed to be the answer for the first 3 years, but lately it has fallen short, and all the pain has returned with vengeance. There always were the side effects of headaches, gas, and elevated blood pressure."

"I have tried many different medications for persistent heartburn and GERD for the last 20 or so years. Started with Tagamet (cimetidine), which helped, but not consistently. Switched to Prilosec (omeprazole) 40 mg/day about 10 years ago. Also inconsistent (and I follow an anti-GERD diet out of necessity) and still suffered from sometimes debilitating heartburn and related digestive issues. When Nexium finally went generic (it was just too expensive before), I switched to that, taking two 40 mg capsules/day, and it changed my life. This is a very high dose, but I was completely desperate for relief, which I got within days. I never get flare-ups since starting on it, so for me, it’s a wonder drug. I’m also well aware of the controversy around PPIs, but luckily I have not suffered any side effects and take B12 and iron supplements, in addition to a multivitamin daily. I hope to eventually come down to one capsule/day instead of two, but for now, that’s what works best."

"This medicine is toxic. After weeks of stopping my medication, I now have: 1. Muscle twitching 2. Nerve problems 3. Back, leg, and shoulder pains (although my leg and shoulder pain have decreased) 4. Weight loss (I managed to recover my lost weight) 5. Vision problems (although I think it has something to do with a wrong prescription for glasses) 6. Anxiety/Panic Attacks. I do not recommend taking this drug. If you want to reduce your stomach acid, I recommend Gaviscon and other antacids. NEVER USE PPIs."

Esomeprazole "After having heartburn, my doctor just automatically prescribed this to me. Let me tell you something! This is the worst thing I could’ve put in my mouth. My anxiety was off the roof! I ended up in the ER because I thought I was having a heart attack. I’ve always suffered from anxiety, but this time it’s worse. Burning palm sensation, weird sensations in my brain along with pressure. My vision feels foggy and blurry, and I have arm and leg pain, and depersonalization. The list goes on. It’s been almost a month, and I’m still suffering. I feel terrible. I wanted to quit my job and stay in bed! Although this may work for others, it can have bad effects on some. Use with caution!"

Esomeprazole "I suffered severe pain from GERD that I had to be hospitalized. The next day, I bought the Nexium 24hr, not because I saw it was the top-selling brand at Walmart, but because my mom said to get Prilosec, lol. Anyway, within minutes, the pain from my GERD disappeared. One con I've had so far, though. The medicine states 24hrs, for me, it's roughly 18-20 hrs, and I start feeling the acid again. So keep that in mind."

Esomeprazole "I have now been using Nexium 24 for only 4 days, but I am seeing the effects already! I have been able to enjoy many foods I have had to avoid in the past with little to no burn. I absolutely have hope that Nexium is the answer to all my problems and that in time it will eliminate the problems altogether. I was lucky enough to receive my Nexium free from a mission, and now I'm a dedicated customer. Thank you so much for this awesome product!"

Esomeprazole "I only got prescribed Nexium yesterday due to intense chest pressure/heartburn caused by the bacteria H. pylori. I took 2 doses at the hospital, one when I got home and one when I woke up as instructed by the doctor. The side effects are scary. I can’t get out of bed. I have zero energy. I keep throwing up. I have insane chills, I am either freezing or hot. And the worst of them all…ANXIETY. I can’t even catch my breath. This is the worst I’ve almost ever felt. I called the doctor, and he said it’s possible that the pill is doing this and to take Omerpradex instead. I hope this feeling will go away fast because I have never felt so ill before!!!"
