"Rexulti 3 mg worked very well for 1 year, but stopped working. I also gained 40 pounds with no change in diet or activity level. I’m still stuck with the weight even since I stopped it. So, eh. Take every review and side effect with a grain of salt. If you notice excessive weight gain in the beginning (my first 20 pounds was within 2 months or so), say something to your doctor. Don’t let them blow you off."

"Bad. Feel restless and have anxiety attacks, also gaining weight. Have no energy and have to drink 3-4 cups of coffee every day just to stay awake and not crash my car driving to work. For me, not a good med. Tried Abilify, Seroquel, and Depakote in the past for anger and irritability, and those are as bad, if not worse, than the Rexulti. Been on 20 mg Lexapro for anxiety, depression, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) for about 10 years, but it's not working very well anymore. Doctor suggested Latuda, going to try that next."

"Initially, it was a great drug. It acted, mostly, as an anxiolytic. At an initial dose of 0.5 mg, it made me calm, made my depression fade away. It even increased my energy, improved sleep, and libido. The problem, however, was the timing of the medication. I could not take it in the evening because it was making my sleep worse. In the morning, it made me sedated - but not too much; it was tolerable. After 2 months, my doctor bumped the dose to 1 mg - and that's where hell went loose. I slowly started developing side effects from it. The feeling of energy went away. Sedation increased to the point where I was unable to work. At the same time, it made my sleep much worse. Again, these side effects developed slowly - until, at some point, I realized that I felt really, really bad on Rexulti. Now I am trying to get off it before I get fired from my job."

"I was on the verge of admitting myself. This medicine pulled me out of the depths of despair in a week. I'm up to 0.5 mg now and may increase more. I hope the effectiveness lasts. I do think I have gained some weight from it but I would rather be fat and sane than thinner and out of my mind. The first day I took it, I felt a bit energized but that only lasted one day. The next days, I felt zero side effects. Maybe a little more sleepy in the evening. Oh, and I also take 25mg of Lexapro since this is an add-on. I've been on Lexapro for ten years and Rexulti for 2 months."

"I am over 50 years old and have tried just about every antidepressant, antipsychotic, and mood stabilizer out there over the past 30 years. Rexulti is a lifesaver. I have been on it for six months, and I’ve never felt better. I can think. I can function. There is a downside: weight gain. It came on pretty quickly, and I gained over 10 pounds, however, the way it makes me feel is worth the weight. I’m on it without a typical antidepressant. It seems to boost my Strattera, which is not prescribed as a standard antidepressant but is an SNRI. I’m also on Lamotrigine."

"Don’t fall for the savings coupon! They covered the cost for the first three 1-month supplies, but now they want $570 for it. I can’t afford that. And next month, I was told it will be over $900 because I haven’t met my $9,100 deductible yet. Now I’ll have to go off it without being properly titrated down. This is dangerous! I called the number for Rexulti, and they made it clear that they couldn’t care less. Such reckless and uncaring behavior from a pharmaceutical company. If you can afford such an expensive Rx, then it may help you. I think it might’ve helped me a bit. I guess I’ll find out for sure when I go off of it. I just feel very deceived and screwed over by the manufacturer. I hope you find what works for you."

"Added 1 mg to my Effexor 150 mg for depression and anxiety. This is helping, but I have major joint and body aches, with weight gain and stomach bloating. Also, OCD is worse. Don't know if I can stay on this due to these side effects."

"Ever since getting COVID, I have been having really bad existential and death OCD, along with physical symptoms like a constant tension in my body. After trying a number of different meds, my psych prescribed this to help supplement my Lexapro. It seems to be helping make my thoughts a little quieter and boosting my mood a bit. I'm still only on 0.25, and I may be switching to another SSRI soon, but right now, Rexulti seems to be helping somewhat, more than other drugs have."

"Rexulti is the 6th AD that I had taken over 13 years. It's also the first one to work. Hands down, 10/10. The first 5 ADs provided minimal help and maximum side effects (fatigue, weight gain, insomnia, long-term IBS, etc.). In general, they moved serious depression and anxiety to moderate, but at an unsustainable cost. Rexulti is entirely different. Within 1 day, I noticed a big difference, in 3 days, I was me. For the first time in 13 years. My depression is in remission, my anxiety is around 20% of what it was. Huge win, and more to come. I think I need time for pathways and habits to rewire. Side effects: weight gain, but not a lot. Perhaps some sleep issues. Bonus: this is the time of year that I struggle the most. I had really bad Seasonal Affective Disorder, even as a kid. It's gone now, although the weight and sleep side effects may be SAD, not the drug."

"When my psychiatrist finally put me on 1 mg of Rexulti, it was a lifesaver. My latest depressive episode seemed intractable until then, but a major drawback has been sleep interruption, often as early as 3 a.m. My mind races, and it's often more fun to get up than to stay in bed. I rarely sleep beyond 6 a.m., no matter how late I go to sleep. My much-valued afternoon naps have also become infrequent too. I also take Pamelor 75 mg per day and Seroquel 75 mg per day. The doctor said that I'd have to come off the Seroquel since it's the same drug family as the Rexulti. Well, I've decided to get off the Rexulti and keep my Seroquel since the Seroquel helps me sleep and wears off by morning. Rexulti is absurdly expensive."

"I have been taking 40 mg of Prozac, but somehow it was not doing as good as it used to be for me. Plus, some fatigue, more stress, low motivation, and low mood. I always start medication with the lowest dose, so after checking with my doctor, who advised adding Rexulti 0.25 mg, initially, I had a headache that continued for 3 days, but slowly the medication got adjusted and I am now feeling much better, more energy, more motivation, and even libido is improving. So, folks, don’t lose hope and best of luck in your journey against this depression."

"Within a few days, I started having thoughts of self-harm (wrists) - completely unheard of for me, being interested in committing crimes/anti-social behavior (once again, completely unheard of for me), and it upped my intrusive thoughts about feces. I had to stop after 5 days. That was 2 days too long. I wanted to wait it out. I have a tendency/history of trying to be fair and waiting things out. This med or class of med isn't for me. I'm trying to get off Latuda by switching to something similar, as Latuda gives me panic/anxiety. For reference, I'm long-term on Pristiq 150mg/day for depression and intrusive thoughts, and about 1/3 of the year on 750mg Divalproex to be more positive about things and not so 'downer.' I'm a mid-30s middle-class perfect-life-on-paper woman who can't work very much due to extreme fatigue and now recently medication mischief while my psychiatrist tries to find an antipsychotic med for my Bipolar type 2."

"It’s been a month on Rexulti. I’ve been on so many things until I was diagnosed with BPD. I’m using these as a mood stabilizer, and I have never felt better. I’m concerned with the reviews of weight gain because I’m already a curvy lady, but if my brain is healthy, my body will follow suit. Highly recommend."

"I went from a size 10 to a size 14 in three years of taking the medication. All symptoms of my major depression are gone, but obesity is setting in, and I may have to try something else for a while. I work out 3 times a week and watch what I eat."

"I have dealt with MDD, GAD, and PTSD meds for over 30 years and have had periods of relief with different cocktails, some lasting 5-6 years, but as many of you know, I built a tolerance to them all. A year and a half ago, my anxiety started waking me up and quickly became complete insomnia, and we tried many combinations for now four disorders and was able to sleep but woke feeling depressed. I take nefazodone, amitriptyline, and clonidine, and my psychiatrist gave me a Rexulti sample pack, but from the first 0.5 tablet, I had a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep until I had none. I rated Rexulti a 6 because in my experience with this product, adjunct to the tricyclics, my depression disappeared completely by the second, but for me, I choose sleep but am very envious of those people who have no bad side effects and good insurance because the cost of this on Medicare will put you in the donut hole."

"Game changer! I was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder. This is my 2nd time going back on Rexulti and I feel so much better! I take 0.5 mg and I am more stable than I've ever been. I do feel sleepy at times, but I will just exercise to combat the sleepiness."

"My problems are bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression. I was switched from Latuda 80 mg to Rexulti (which my doctor pushed on me and had samples). I also take Adderall and Prozac. I started having tremors and the biggest panic attack of my life that I ended up in the hospital. I didn’t know what was wrong with me, so I switched to an NP there. We both thought it was the Adderall making me tremor, this morning, no tremors. I went back to Ability 10 mg at night with my other usual meds! This med is not for people with non-polar disorder, it will make you worse. I’m sure it will help with depression, but they have no proven facts stating that Rexulti is for non-polar. Studies actually made it clear it made bipolar worse."

"I went on this medication. I found in my particular experience that I put on lots of weight in a small amount of time, which only added to my distress. I'm not saying this will happen to everyone, I'm just writing this review from my perspective."

"This has been amazing, and I am just starting my third free pack. I feel happy and content and hopeful for the first time in years. The change is amazing. I almost wondered if I was manic, as this new mood is so new. I'm able to handle stress. I'm able to enjoy tasks and work. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone. I haven't had the increased appetite that others have mentioned, but even if so, I would be overjoyed just due to the increase in mood and overall feeling of bliss."

"I had high hopes because of the positive reviews, it helped for a little while. I wasn’t suicidal, and I felt in control, but soon my hands began to shake so much I couldn’t do my work, and I’m so painfully tired all the time and constantly groggy, like I just woke up. I feel more depressed on the meds than I did off. I slowly felt more and more numb until nothing felt good anymore. I don’t do anything other than work and sleep."

"It has been a gradual incline in a positive direction for my life. I have been taking Rexulti for 3 months to treat my anxiety/depression and am currently taking 2.5 mg a day. I have felt boosted in social attributes such as charisma, being more personable, and a major decrease in apathy."

"I started Rexulti after I started having severe panic attacks. Everything was going great, and it made me feel unstoppable. I was going out with friends and trying to watch my weight, considering a side effect was weight gain. Then the problems started happening. I started having severe depressive episodes, panic attacks that caused my chest to hurt, and crying meltdowns. I think that this medicine is great for many people. I just happen to be one of the ones that it doesn’t help."

"I was prescribed Rexulti to help with anxiety and insomnia. The very first night I took it, I had hallucinations, which I have never had in my life. Assuming it was a side effect, it didn’t “scare me,” per se, but it was highly uncomfortable. I contacted the doctor and discontinued taking it immediately. Currently trying Zyprexa, which seems to be much more effective without the side effects."

"I was on Celexa 60 mg for 20 years, and it finally didn’t work anymore, so my psychiatrist put me on Abilify first and then Rexulti, which gave me uncontrollable body movements. Finally, I told my doctor to take me off all these medications and put me on a new drug, which was Lexapro 20 mg, and I feel fine. I strongly suggest not taking this drug unless you are severely depressed."

"I want to preface this by saying that everybody's body chemistry is different and that one person's reaction to a medication will not necessarily be your reaction to the same med. With that being said, my experience with Rexulti was a horrible one. I have been on over 10 different antidepressants and anxiolytics, and this medication has caused the worst side effects I've ever experienced, namely, shortness of breath. During the second week, it got to the point where I couldn't get a full breath of air in, which led to severe anxiety and panic attacks. I went to an urgent care, where they said that my heart rate was so high that I needed to go to the ER. At the ER, I was given IV fluid and tested via an EKG, a chest X-ray, and a blood test. After everything came back fine, an ER doctor told me that it was likely an idiosyncratic reaction to the Rexulti in combination with heightened anxiety, and that the best course of action was to wait it out until the drug leaves my system. Good times."
