Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "After taking other antibiotics a couple of times over the last 12 months for sinus infections, I finally had a deep sinus infection which seeped through the top jaw and around a tooth. It had apparently been building up over time. I had just started Augmentin 875/125 when the periodontist found this. Before that I had tried completing 3 courses and all infection pain in my sinus, jaw, neck, and shoulder have gone. After 12 months of trying physio, massage, nasal sprays, washes, and antihistamines, as well as the odd antibiotic, Augmentin has been my savior. It began to clear everything I didn’t even know was part of the infection within 3 days and the continued improvement has been unbelievable and surprising. No side effects at all, if I take it at the start of a meal, although I have felt pretty tired. Brilliant drug!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "Medicine worked great for double infections, a couple of days I could feel a difference. HOWEVER, side effects were terrible, still around after completing a 10-day treatment. Even with daily probiotics and yogurt, the digestive/intestinal issues were bad, constant trips to the bathroom, eating would immediately create 'stomach talk', could not leave the house, had to cancel a family trip as travel would have been difficult. I felt lethargic, weak, had blurry vision, and was exhausted, with all of this, it really affected my mentality. FYI: On the 2nd day when side effects began, I spoke with my pharmacist, who encouraged me to stay on it if I could endure these 'common' side effects, none being allergic. It has worked but still healing from side effects."

On day one, I had pain in my head, some sweating/chills, lethargy, and stomach upset. Day two, I had bad diarrhea, anxiety, nervousness/agitation, sweating/chills, and some tiredness. Day three, I had all of the above, as well as developing one hive on my right arm after my evening dose. The medication helps my sinus infection, but the side effects are troubling. I do not feel good for at least two or three hours after taking this medication."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "This is one of the worst experiences in my entire life. After taking Augmentin, I had diarrhea for a week, a yeast infection, dry red rashes on the palms of my hands and inner thighs, hemorrhoids, exhaustion, blurry vision, and an increased heart rate, which caused me to not be able to sleep. I WILL NEVER take Augmentin again, worst meds in the world."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I took the 875/125 mg every 12 hours for 10 days for walking pneumonia, upper respiratory, and sinus infection. Side effects: fuzzy feeling in my head, dizziness, and lethargy. Also had bubbling in my stomach and diarrhea. I want to share some helpful tips that were suggested by my pharmacist: 1. DO NOT take this on an empty stomach. That is a recipe for disaster as this will destroy your insides. Please do yourself a favor and have a hearty meal before taking this. Carb it up with some bread/pasta so there is something in your tummy before this medicine comes in Gladiator style to battle the bacteria. 2. Hydrate! Taking this with water is SO important! Drink at least a bottle of water after taking the pill. 3. Take a supplemental probiotic. I also ate a container of yogurt. 4. I read in a review to eat chocolate while on this. Had some M&Ms after the pill. DK if it helped, but it tasted great and made me happy, so to each their own."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Kidney Infections "So... I was so scared to take these tablets after reading the reviews. I have Crohn's disease and a very sensitive stomach, but I had a water infection for 3 weeks, which then traveled to my kidneys and made my pancreas swell, so I was prescribed these. First day I took them, I started to feel nausea. I am now on day 5 of these, and the side effects aren't as bad as what I thought. I have a bit of a fuzzy head and feeling nausea and just extremely tired. I have had no sickness or diarrhea. I think the key to this is I eat before I take the tablets, and I make sure to eat some yogurt about an hour after taking them, and I've had no problem, and that's coming from a girl who has a very sensitive stomach normally."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Was diagnosed with a sinus infection. I have not used antibiotics in years. Put me on Augmentin. Took the fourth dose this morning, so day three. I feel horrible! So tired, foggy, just want to sleep, my heart feels a little racey, bad gas, diarrhea yesterday, bad cramping. Taking with food and probiotics. I am trying to give it a chance, but I can't seem to do anything but sit here. I almost felt better before starting it."

For Bacterial Infection "When I first started the medication, it did not affect me the first two days, and then I started having anxiety, nervousness, depression, tiredness. My stomach felt weird, and I just didn't feel like myself. I had an upper respiratory infection, which is better. I have one more pill to take tonight, but I am skipping it because I have had such a bad day. I was on the 875 mg for seven days, twice a day. I will ask the doctor for something else next time. From what I'm reading, I think it is the clavulanate ingredient, and I also spoke to the pharmacist, and he said that that gives it an extra kick to kill the infection. So this is a super strong antibiotic and has side effects that I've never experienced before with an antibiotic."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "Strange reactions. I am allergic to sulfa drugs - not to be confused with sulfur. There are no sulfa in Augmentin. I am taking 825/125, 1 every 12 hours. I've noticed the following - none of which are currently severe. (Lots of torso itching - my back, sides, stomach, breasts. Bowel movements are slow and daily, but it feels like my muscles don't work as well as they should. A little TMI, but I experienced some vaginal itching that caused discomfort while urinating and wiping (yeast infection?). Not serious yet, also could have been caused by PMS. Other than these, I have just been exhausted, no appetite, a bit of insomnia once every couple of days. I understand my body is fighting things off. But I wish I had known about the symptoms beforehand so I could have been prepared to hibernate for 2 weeks."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin and Structure Infection "Took Augmentin for a bacterial infection in my foot. This is rough stuff. During the 10-day cycle, although it cleared up the infection in my foot, I had begun to develop headaches, felt weak and tired, sleeplessness, and some stomach discomfort. It works well if you can endure all the side effects. Would not recommend if other options are available."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Day 5, and my sinus congestion is as bad, if not worse. Had a fever on day 2, chronic headache despite drinking a gallon of water a day. Ruptured my eardrum day 2 blowing my nose after using the neti pot my doctor insisted I try (never again!). So now I’m not supposed to blow my nose. Every other antibiotic I’ve been on started clearing up my symptoms within 2 days. As a teacher, it’s next to impossible to be effective while sick like this. I have sinus and ear pain and tooth pain to contend with on top of lethargy and chronic headache. So for me, Augmentin has been ineffective. Never again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "This has been a terrible experience. Given 875 mg for 7 days for diverticulitis. Side effects are extremely tired, anxiety, complete loss of appetite, bloating, and full of gas, extreme weakness in legs, feel like passing out. Worse than the problem it was for. One more day left and feel like passing on it. Hopefully, I will bounce back after it is out of the system. Unless you can lay around and not have to function, I would not take. Could barely take a shower, was so tired. In my opinion, bad stuff."

For Sinusitis "The doctor was hesitant to prescribe an antibiotic since Kaiser is against them unless you are knocking on death's door. But after suffering pounding headaches for a month, terrible mucus in the back of my throat, and finally shortness of breath, the doctor agreed to prescribe Augmentin for sinusitis. I had an earache, constant violent sneezing, exhaustion, and head congestion that was only continuing to worsen. After TWO pills, I felt like I'd been reborn. I did wake up at 2 AM with the worst heartburn of my life, though, and chewed at least 15 Tums, took 2 Pepcid AC with milk, and still my guts were on fire. Take this medication with food and probiotics at intervals."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Aspiration Pneumonia "Augmentin caused severe neurological issues with my mother, where she exhibited stroke symptoms without having one and was very lethargic and lacked motor function. My father became very nauseous with severe headaches. I don't know why this drug is pushed on elderly people and want to tell everyone to beware of it!"

For Sinusitis "This stuff is supposed to clear up my sinus infection. It may have done that, but it also made me have severe headaches, body aches, weakness, and confusion. I felt like I was trapped in a cloud-like bubble. I'm on day 4, and I feel like quitting, it is making me feel so miserable. I can't get my body temperature right. I'm either too hot or too cold. I feel tired all the time. What is happening to me? I'm glad, not really, but happy to know that I'm not the only one this has happened to. This medicine should not be prescribed anymore. I'm on the 825 mg. Way too strong."

For Bacterial Infection "Currently taking this for bronchitis/early pneumonia. Had diarrhea, but it got better after a day or two. The med is definitely doing its job in killing all the garbage in my body associated with the infection. Normally I have great energy, this is my 7th day of the med, and I feel as though I am exhausted constantly, feel like I’m wrapped in a warm, soaked, heavy blanket that I’m dragging around with me. It’s a side effect, I’ll continue to tough it out. It’s better than when I was sick and coughing constantly, lungs and chest so sore and red I was miserable. It’s killing bad bacteria in your body, your body is then getting rid of it with sweat and normal bathroom functions, so to be a bit off or frequency increase to me is a good thing. The tiredness thing gets to you, but don’t just go off the med and have the bacteria come back in some super form. Call your doc, try and tough it out, don’t just stop taking."

For Strep Throat "After going to the ER twice in one week and my strep test coming out negative, my symptoms were so bad and visible that they started my first dose of antibiotics through IV and sent me home with Augmentin 875 mg. After the third day, I was feeling better from my throat, but the side effects were doing a number on me. I am super weak and tired, I'm sleeping most of the day. My joints hurt, my legs hurt, my chest feels tight, and I have irregular heartbeats if I move too much. I feel lethargic, and I have a weird taste in my mouth, everything tastes bad. And I'm irritable, I feel so many more, just don't feel like myself. I have experienced some really bad side effects, but it's helping my infection. So I guess I have to deal with that for three more days."

For Sinusitis "Prescribed after repeated ear infections and the last cold that turned into a sinus infection. Felt better by the second day, and sinuses opened up. I did have a bout of diarrhea on day 2 but had had soft bowels prior to starting this medication, so I cannot be certain that it was from that. I took Pepto-Bismol tablets throughout that morning and did not have it again. I did feel tired, had a slight stomach ache as if carrying around a brick the first few days, feverish/chills but not really, as well as somewhat sedated and 'out of it' but not unable to function. I was glad to come across this website on day 2 of my treatment. I alleviated the side effects by taking with Greek yogurt, a probiotic pill, a full glass of water, and a starch."

For Sinusitis "I’m on day 3 of 5 Amox Clav 875 125. I have a terrible sinus infection. Day one, my stomach felt a little nauseous. The next day, I had diarrhea, it lasted the day. I ate some bananas and drank a yogurt smoothie, and it seemed to help. I think the stomach upset and diarrhea was just my body adjusting to the antibiotics. Today is day 3, and my stomach is calm, but I do feel really tired and low energy. My sinuses are not so clogged, I can breathe a lot better, so the medication seems to be working. I would recommend it for sinus infection because I know how stuffy and miserable I felt, and I would definitely deal with the side effects to be better. I’m going to continue to take my 5-day course."

For Bacterial Infection "I had swollen tonsils but no clear diagnosis (I think it was tonsillitis). This medicine brought down my swelling by day 6, which was nice. I am in my early 20s and had side effects. My chest hurt bad, I was extremely tired, on day 9 out of 10, I had very bad lower stomach pains. This medicine also made me very anxious and gassy. I wouldn't recommend it simply because of the side effects."

For Sinusitis "I have been living at 80% for years due to sinus issues. I take Vyvanse 70 mg just to function. The problem is Vyvanse masks any symptoms I have until it is severe. So when my sinuses reach that point, a Z-pack and shot make me feel better, but apparently haven’t gotten rid of the infection. I felt okay when I went to my new ENT. He scoped my sinuses and saw the infection and also noticed both of my ear drums are retracted. Well, the scope irritated my sinuses. I started a 21-day Amox-Clav 875 mg 2x a day, and I’m feeling less than my normal 80%. I’m on day 4! I have a constant dull headache, no energy, and my ears are really sensitive. No energy tells me my Vyvanse isn’t working with the antibiotics. I don’t want to have sinus surgery, so I hope this antibiotic works and this 21 days of feeling like rubbish is worth it."
