"I spoke to my GP over the phone because I had a flare-up of diverticulitis. (Telephone consultation because of Covid) After a lot of questions, she prescribed me amoxicillin/clavulanate and gave me a 7-day supply at 3 capsules a day. In my life, I have never had horrendous side effects that I got from this drug. It is appalling, and I will never take it again. I suffered from severe abdominal pain, a feeling of not being in control, could not concentrate, cannot stand up, legs feel like jelly, tiredness to the point of feeling ill, feel as if my life is slipping away on this drug - it is HORRIBLE. I will ring doctors and advise, and because of side effects, ask for Metronidazole, which is a better drug."

For Strep Throat "I was prescribed Amox-Clav 875 for strep throat. After three doses of the medication, I became extremely nauseous and threw up everything in my stomach. I became exhausted and slept for multiple hours. I developed a terrible headache, and my nausea continued. I contacted my doctor to explain my conditions, and he prescribed an anti-nausea medication and a different antibiotic. While Amox-Clav was effective in helping my strep throat symptoms in only three doses, it rendered me incapable of doing anything. I was not comfortable continuing the medication."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "So I was prescribed Augmentin on Friday to treat really bad sinuses, and the doctor told me not to start it until what would’ve been today, but when I went to the ER that night, they said that I should start Augmentin. I took my first dose, I didn’t see any differences, although I already had a fever and my heart rate was pretty high because I was fighting off an infection. My second dose kept me up all night long. My third dose made me sleepy and lethargic all yesterday. My fourth dose, I wasn’t feeling better or worse, but at one random point, I checked my heart rate, and it was 172, and my fiancé said that wasn’t right, and something about the app that I use was wrong. I didn’t feel it. So all weekend long, I had a horrible cough, and every time I would cough, my back would seize up, and I would be in excruciating pain. I attribute this to being on my couch, however, I do not believe that’s the case. My diarrhea has been pretty substantial."

For Sinusitis "I get so sick from taking this, I can't even work. Nausea, stomach pain, dizziness, headache, tired... I'm going back to the doctor to switch medication just after taking them for 3 days, I can't do it no more."

For Sinusitis "I went to an ENT, and the camera she ran up my nose and into my throat indicated I had a sinus infection. It was a great relief as I had been to my family doctor a few times, and she said there was nothing she could see, and I was left feeling ill. The ENT gave me 3x 500 for 21 days. Seemed very excessive, I thought. She did prescribe Sandoz-Rabeprazole as it reduces any side effects. I have had no nausea or bowel issues, however, on day 8, I feel worse than ever. I am anxious, sad, had to take a leave from work because I am lethargic and cannot focus. My vision is blurry, and my eyes are dry. So glad to know I am not alone. Going to my GP tomorrow to see if she can do anything."

For Bacterial Infection "I have used this medication for 25 years because of my bad sinuses that keep getting infected. I had been using it with almost no side effects until this last time. But now that I have joined the 50+ club, I am seeing uncomfortable side effects. Right now, I am on it, I feel like garbage, I am tired, pale, chills, having stomach upset, and started to get tingling in the face after 4 doses. I feel more stuffed up than I did before starting this. If I still feel like this on the next dose, I am stopping it. I feel worse than before I started it."

For Sinusitis "Had increased heart rate and shortness of breath just after a few hours of taking it, followed by severe nausea and vomiting overnight. The next day, felt extremely weak and tired with light nausea and no appetite. My stomach and lower back were sensitive to the touch and achy. I was prescribed this two separate times in a year, and both times had this reaction. Both times, the doctors stopped its use and prescribed something else."

For Sinusitis "RUN FROM THIS MED!! I was fine on it at first, but now it has caused headaches, severe diarrhea, tiredness, and vomiting. If I would have known its side effects before I was prescribed it, I would have never started taking it. I had to leave work nearly because I was so ill from it. Do not take this med. It's horrible."

For Sinusitis "I had an ongoing sinusitis infection for months. Then, a week ago, I woke up on a Wednesday morning and could hardly open my eye. My hubby took me to urgent care, where they said I had pink eye and gave me drops. However, I also developed a sore throat. I called the doctor and had a video visit. He looked at the picture I sent him, noticed swelling below my eye, and expressed concern that I may have preseptal cellulitis and possible strep. He prescribed Amox-Clav 875/125 mg. I have 5 more days to go on these antibiotics. I've experienced really bad stomach cramps, diarrhea (but only once), headache, feeling very tired, and now I have heartburn. I feel a little dehydrated, but I'm taking the medication with food. Despite the side effects, I plan to finish the antibiotics because they seem to be helping. They have cleared up my sinus congestion, although I still have a cough and need to clear up the mucus. Overall, I feel better than I have been. The pressure around my eyes and cheeks isn't as bad. I just have to get through these last few days and the side effects. The medication is definitely helping me."

For Strep Throat "Wasn't entirely sure I had strep throat, no fever (but I never get fevers), but sore throat for 5 days, getting worse, couldn't swallow without extreme pain. Doctor did a strep test, was negative, but she said there were other strains of strep that the test didn't cover, was also concerned that the sore throat was worse. Within 12 hours of taking the first dose, my throat was much better, and soreness was completely gone after 24 hours. Side effects, however, were hard to live with. I have been dizzy and extremely tired. Decided to stop after the 4th day of taking it because it would be hard to go back to work on this med."

For Sinusitis "This is by far the worst antibiotic I've ever taken. Hours after my first dose, I had severe stomach pain and was up all night running back and forth to the bathroom. My Fitbit has also been telling me that my heartbeat is faster than normal. I've been in fat burn mode while laying in bed. I've definitely noticed insomnia, as I've been up until 3-4 AM all week. I'm always tired as well. I'm only halfway through the pills, and there is no way I'll ever take them again, as today I woke up with more severe stomach pain. My sinuses do feel better though."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "By the time I was prescribed this medication, I was at the tail end of a two-week-old. The doctor saw some spots on my throat and prescribed it. The medication has made me more miserable than the actual disease. I can't keep any food in my stomach, and I have constant headaches as well as lingering nausea. Constantly sleepy and tired. It's been four days at this time, and I think I will have to stop early. My doctor prescribed 875 mg two times a day for 10 days."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Sadly, I have not had a good experience with this medication. I was prescribed this after 8 days of regular Amoxicillin was ineffective against an ear infection that was caused by an eardrum rupture due to flying. Today is the 6th day of this medicine, and I finally gave up and called the doctor. I can no longer handle the nausea, diarrhea, exhaustion, heart palpitations, itching, and malaise. Luckily, I was told to stop the medication and will be seen by my doctor on Wednesday. This may be a good drug for some people, but as for me."

For Middle Ear Infections "After 3 days of taking a tablet by mouth every 12 hours for 10 days. The infection and the pain in my ear got better, but the side effects like diarrhea and tiredness, dizziness, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, disorientation, and irritability made the 10 days a challenge."

For Bacterial Infection "Tomorrow’s my last day on these pills. Went looking for some reassurance online for the immense brain fog and incredible tiredness. Looks like I’m not the only one. Fever and chills are gone, so it must’ve worked. Didn’t know I was supposed to eat before taking in order to prevent bad symptoms & probiotics. Drinking some yogurt now. In any case, bad side effects for me were the incredible brain fog, like I’ve never experienced. Thank goodness I’m not working, because that would have been impossible. And a couple bouts of increased anxiety. Take care!"

For Bacterial Infection "I am a 26-year-old male, athletic build, 6 ft tall, 75 kg. I was prescribed this medication by a bulk-billed MD who diagnosed me with a sinus infection. My nose and chest were a little congested, and I had severe ear pressure. It helped thin out my mucus. I'd taken 9/10 tablets by the time I saw a better GP who took far more time with me, and she suggested I go off the antibiotics as they'd made me feel worse, not better. However, she also said it wouldn't hurt to have the final tablet if I really felt like it. Side effects throughout my week included the following: slight nausea, diarrhea (twice), fatigue, dizziness, tiredness, weakness, weight loss, loss of appetite, and dry mouth. I'm never using this medication ever again!"

For Bronchitis "An ER doctor prescribed amoxicillin-clav 875 mg to me to take for my bronchitis twice a day for 7 days. Symptoms beforehand were a sore throat, a white spot on my tonsils and throat, I couldn’t speak at all due to mucus and soreness, a fever of 101.5°F, and extreme fatigue. The first day, I felt extremely tired and couldn’t leave the bed, but 2 days later I was able to walk up the stairs without having a hard time catching my breath and almost talking at a normal volume. I felt very disoriented, bloated, and drowsy, but no other symptoms."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Middle Ear Infections "I am a 42-year-old man. After 2 days on Augmentin, my ears felt better, but I couldn’t sleep. After 4 days, I felt foggy-headed, lethargic, dizzy, and overall unwell, and the ear pain returned. On the 10th day, I felt extremely fatigued, sad, broke out on my face, and ringing in my ears is terrible. The Z-Pak did not work either."

For Middle Ear Infections "In a home of 6, 5 of us were prescribed this medication, me and the kids (16, 6 & 4) together and the hubby 4 days earlier, so we pretty much knew what we were getting: headache, sinus pressure, stiff neck, diarrhea and vomiting, exhaustion, stuffed nose, stomach ache, and cramps. Both my daughter and I got our periods early too. I was the one who made it out with the worst pains ever. (Female 46) Still taking it, but will never take it again! Nor will I put my kids through this pain."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Ok, so I have severe facial cellulitis due to tooth (need root canal). Taking 875-125 for 14 days. It took 6 days for swelling to go away. Breastfeeding a newborn as well, we both had diarrhea. I’m trying to wean my baby. I have a foggy brain, and it’s hard to concentrate at times, it’s really bad. Severe mood change, crying, confusion. I’m 36 years old and found myself crying out for my mom. I had panic attacks, thinking I was dying, I never had panic attacks in my life. Extremely tired. After 7 days, I think my body is adjusting, and I feel better but extremely tired. Going to the doctor tomorrow to figure out what to do."

For Strep Throat "Got an exceptionally painful case of strep throat. Ended up in the hospital as throat swelled and was struggling to breathe and absolutely could not swallow anything, not even saliva (carried a bowl around to spit into). Had IV penicillin, fluids, paracetamol, oramorph, and steroids. The steroids were the biggest help for the throat pain. Was prescribed co-amoxiclav to take home. It's definitely clearing the infection, but my god, the diarrhea, nausea, and lethargy are tough to deal with. I have zero appetite but have eaten little bits, stomach churns and gurgles severely all day. I'd like to stop but know the infection may return if I do. Therefore, I have another 4 days of this to come."

For Sinusitis "Back before my turbinectomy, I used to get nasty sinus infections once or twice a month. This medicine always got rid of these infections. No side effects other than feeling tired and very occasional diarrhea. Definitely better than my one experience with ciprofloxacin, which made me vomit and have incessant diarrhea."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Urinary Tract Infection "I don't want to scare anyone away from taking this drug, but I have to be honest - Augmentin really sucked. I was prescribed it for a stubborn UTI after a 3-day course of Bactrim didn't do the job. I didn't notice many side effects (other than tiredness) at first, but by day 2, this drug had me feeling noticeably 'off', anxious, and irritable. This only worsened, and by day 4, I was feeling a constant cloud of stress and tension throughout my body that wouldn't go away. I felt extremely apathetic towards everyone around me, yet I also felt indescribably terrified that I was losing my sense of self because I felt so 'different' cognitively. The way I spoke, the way I typed, the way I thought through things - it changed, and being aware of that made it even scarier. It got so bad on day 4 that I got in a massive fight with my partner, which is completely out of character for me. It seems to have taken care of the UTI, but dear God, I never want to be on this antibiotic again."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I’ve taken this a couple of times now. Once for a UTI after I was in the hospital and had to be straight cathed, and then the second time was for a double ear infection. Take one pill twice a day. Both times it had worked well for me! Not really any side effects other than about 1-2 after taking it, I get pretty tired. Other than that, it’s great. Be sure to take it with food before each dose, that helps a lot. Not a great idea taking it on an empty stomach."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "Took first Augmentin dose at 10 PM, about 4 hours after dinner. Threw up violently every 2 hours from 1 AM through the night. Didn’t take the next dose this morning and was super nauseous, tired, and not hungry all day. Going to request a different drug. To be fair, I did not take it with food at the exact same time and did not know to take probiotics a couple of hours later until after reading everyone’s advice."
