Everything was going really well and I felt better than ever, for the first two wks on 145 and have been on the 290 for four days. Nothing for two days except stomach distension. I am so disappointed beyond belief, I will take the 145 for a month and give it a fair shot.
Has anyone experienced that linzess stopped working?

I read that this was a dangerous medication. That in April 2016 it was possibly recalled.
Has anyone else noticed that the Linzess capsules have much less medication in them than what they used to have. I've noticed it barely working for the past few month. I tale the 145 dosage. Today when I was getting the capsule out, it seemed that it was empty, I held it up to the light and saw that there was very little medication in the capsule. I wish I had a gram scale to weigh it. I'm wondering if perhaps this is the reason it's not working like it used to?
Yes I have experienced that. When that happens, I stop the Linzess and I start taking Miralax once or twice a day and on the third day, if there was nothing happening I take a linzess 145 and that combination always works for me. If I take Linzess every day I have problems.
I agree with you!! I take Linzess 290 and 2 still softeners daily and at first it works great and then it will begin to not work. When it quits working I have to add Miralax daily or Milk of Magnesia. I tend to start worrying about a blockage if I go 4 or 5 days without results (not to mention. How miserable you feel) . I have found if you drink A LOT of water and go off Linzess for a few days it works like new when you restart the Linzess.. When off Linzess I take Miralax instead and continue with the Dulcolax stool softeners. Long story short, your body needs a break from Linzess every so often. Good Luck!!
I have been taking Linzess over a year now and it has begun to stop working I will be discussing with my doctor about taking 2 it has become more difficult to have a bowel movement daily and I feel toxic on the inside at times, In the beginning i swore by this pill with its awesome effects but now it seems its getting harder and harder to get a complete movement my question is should i be concerned and are there any alternatives to make going as easy as it was in the beginning?
I just heard from my doctor. I emailed him and told him the Linzess stopped working. He wrote " I would like you to add miralax in the evening with 8 ounces of water. Take this until things kick back into gear. You may need to take it every other day". So in other words keep taking the Linzess and add Miralax. I plan on starting this tonight 11/11/2018. I will let you know if it works.
Yes. I started taking the lowest dose of 72 and it worked beautifully until as you say about two weeks after beginning to use it. Eventually I was right back to where I was when I started. I was very disappointed and spoke to my doctor. He upped the dose to the next level. I just began on it and we’ll see what happens.
I am VERY pleased with the results of upping my dosage. I feel better than i have I. Years-no bloating, no distensión, no cramps and I’m regular!! My concern now is the things that I’ve read about lack of vitamin absorption and negatively affecting our natural peristalsis. Anyone have news?
Hello, Lajubilada; I hadn't read about the vitamin absorption issue related to Linzess so thank you for that information. This is very interesting to me since I have had unprecedented crazy + constant food cravings in the time I have been on Linzess.
I take 290 a day. It works for a month or two (meaning I'm able to go once a week), then it stops and I have to go off it for three months. I've been doing this for about three years. This past time, however, it has not worked at all. Then I read the comment earlier about the medication losing it potency. That is entirely possible, as I don't always start from a new bottle.
I should try something else, I am just so sick of doctors and pills!
I started taking the max dose of Linzess 4 months ago after years of Mirilax, enemas, exlax, mineral oil, you name it I have tried it. It worked perfectly for 4 months, i was so happy. I have even done the colon cleanse given before colonoscopy, and it didn't work... I have had Gastric Bypass 2005, twisted bowel 2014, Intussuseption 2016, all requiring open surgery. I lost 205 pounds with the Gastric Bypass, but with the complications afterwards I can't say I would recommend it to anyone. The surgeons have removed some small intestines in the last two surgeries, but there is plenty left. I ended up being admitted Saturday and just released Tuesday. I have not had any movement since Monday???
Exact same experience but after 1 week? I'm wondering if some problem at manufacturing plant? Lol
It seems maybe all pills don't have active ingredient?
I came across this site while searching for "why has linzess stopped working for me". I've been taking 145 mg for several years now and it worked fine. Then 3 weeks ago it just stopped working, so my doctor upped it to 290. I've been taking that for about a week and still nothing. People would say, eat more fiber, or fruit or salad. I have to explain to them what I eat doesn't matter, with the problem I have I need medication. I finally had to take a laxative because I was miserable after several days. All it seems to do now is bloat me. If it keeps up for another week I guess I'll let my doctor know.
Omg same with me the low mg I had to triple it and back up with senna big mistske lol now I'm on 290 mg two days nothing I go back in july but I can't go on Like this good luck to you
Been on it for almost two years. I take a laxative, vary it, when I use linzess,. Once before I stopped Linzess for 5 days because it wasn't working. Linzess with a laxative has stopped working for 3 days. I am stoppi linzess again for 5 days, just using Senocot, mineral oil
I have been taking the 145 daily for almost 5 months. I have days when it works almost instantly and days when it doesn't work at all. My doctor also prescribed two OTC stool softeners to coincide with the Linzess. I take the stool softeners at night to help so that I'm not taking a handful of pills in the morning. The Linzess is more than enough some days. I'm not sure if diet or lifestyle affects the Linzess and is what causes it not to work some days. I would suggest talking to your doctor to see if something like a stool softener could help supplement the Linzess. I know what works for one may not work for others.
This did happen to me on 145., however it started working again after I began taking it every three or 4 days.
It seemed to work better when I had more buildup. Of course my body, since childhood has never been a once a day body. So perhaps not every day would work better. On the days I take it I try to have a very light schedule because I am never sure exactly what is going to happen. There are still some days nothing happens and I begin to worry, but the following pill works just fine.
I went through that as well! Then I dropped back to the 145, I found that if the first one doesn't work I take a second one about 4-5 hours later and it has been helping :) I usually go back and forth from 145 to 290 and it seems to keep my system working.
I have had constipation problems most of my adult life. I took various stool softeners and laxatives for years but constipation seemed to get worse with age. I was given linzess a try and initially I had explosive diarrhea after only an hour or so after taking it. Slowly, by working with dosage it seemed to get better, but now about a month later the pill stopped working and I experienced the same frustration as others in this forum. I am thinking I will need to add a dose of laxative to get some kind of relief. According to the symptoms, I am 72 and I have CIC. What to do???
I've been taking 290 mg for over a year and I've decided to stop wasting my money. I've paid close attention to the fact that the drug looses potency within 30 days of opening the bottle. I get 3-30 day refill bottles from my mail order pharmacy ($120) and they are all sealed and contain up to 4 freshness preservers per bottle. The manufacturer insert says to keep tightly sealed and away from moisture. In other words they know the drug looses potency when it is exposed to air. The issue is NOT YOU it's an unstable product with a very short shelf life.
