"Norethindrone...OMG! I wanna scream I was giving this birth control to control heavy bleeding and painful cramps due to Endometriosis. This pill has caused acne, prolonged bleeding and cramps. My cycle now last 15 plus days and with the bleeding I have cramps. Now I have low hemoglobin levels and anemia because of the loss of blood. I'm 37 and don't want kids so now I'm looking to permanent birth control. I wanted to try the IUD but my sister had it for 5 years and when they took it out it broke and she had to have surgery. Now she's having issues with her cervix and bleeding. Smh what are we to do!"

Nora-Be (norethindrone) "Well, ever since I was 13 my periods were not normal they would last for more than a week, I would get horrible side effects such as nausea, cravings, cramps you name it. I got extremely tired of it and I was prescribe to Nora-Be it's been good to me. I started it while on my period I only bled for two days! Not even bad! It was a small spot and done I felt so relieved!!! I noticed no weight gain and I felt great, I get no side effects from it but if I do which is rare it's breast pain. I recommend this, but of course everyone's body is different!!! ps I've been on it for ages"

"I recently started taking norethindrone birth control because I was having 2 week long periods so at first it was working great , I was about four days in and stopped bleeding completely, a week later I started spotting and now I haven’t been off my period since it’s really has caused me problems emotionally, I would never in 1 million years thought at 22 I would need to get a hysterectomy or partial hysterectomy just to get my body back on track I’m sad all the time because I don’t feel myself anymore like how I did before these problems arose"

Jencycla (norethindrone) "I am truly satisfied with this birth control. I am being treated for PCOS. I couldn’t tolerate any other birth controls due to very bad headaches and nausea/ throwing up. Taking this so far has been great it doesn’t interfere with my daily activities."

"I have just started my third month on Norethindrone. It's a treatment for abnormal bleeding. I used to have endometriosis problems some years ago. It has worked well in that my periods are much lighter and predictable. Before I was doing about 2 weeks bleeding and 1 week free and back to 2 weeks of bleeding. Now it's 4-5 days light bleeding per month. I have noticed more headaches though. Nothing I would trade for the effectiveness. I see my doctor next month. I believe the expectation was to have no periods, but this is 100% better than before."

Jolivette (norethindrone) "Omg, where to begin. Doc had me switch from Yasmin (on for over 15yrs) to Jolivette. I have been on it for 3 years (?). My symptoms have been: weight gain, inability to lose weight (very slow loss) despite 6 day workouts and calorie (low carb) control, hot flashes, night sweats, neck pain, headaches, low energy, terrible depression, insane hostile angry mood swings and constant irritability. I went to the doctor as I thought I might be in early menopause. A battery of tests and blood work came up empty. She dismissed that Jolivette was the cause. Finally, googled it and found countless forums of women in the same boat as me. It's been 3 weeks since I stopped the pill and most notably my moods has been so even no irritability at all!"

Errin (norethindrone) "I was on Errin .35 for 6 weeks and decided to stop taking it due to having my period for all but 3 weeks straight. Only had small breaks in between like a day here or there and just when I thought it was done it started again. It also make me very tired to the point I would fall asleep in the middle of the afternoon if I wasn't actively doing something. I started it mainly because I am done having children and my periods were terrible because of my Fibromyalgia. The cons of taking this far out-weigh the pros for me. I would rather just feel like crap for a couple days a month than deal with periods lasting weeks."

"Horrible medication. Stopped after 2 weeks. Continuous bleeding. Nausea. Cramps. Fatigue. Bloating. Maybe if I tried to stick it out longer the side effects would go away but I just couldn’t do it. I have never felt so awful."

"I've been taking Norethindrone for 6 months now, and things appear to be getting worse. Each month, the number of days I bleed goes up. This month isn't even over and I've bled 13 days non stop, 3 days not bleeding, and another week of bleeding. I've been told most side effects go away after about 3-5 months, so I plan on seeing how the next three months go. It's very annoying and painful to be bleeding what certainly feels like all the time."

"I can't stay on this any longer. I was having cramping, gushing blood every 4 days, and swollen uterus. Took this medicine for 2 weeks (double dose the first week) and did stop my bleeding and cramping BUT made my depression and mood swings miserable. Worst mom ever. Also experienced heart burn, shaking, cloudy thinking, feelings of being overwhelmed, and acne. I am stopping it after 20 pills! I would rather bleed to death!"

Nora-Be (norethindrone) "I have a very light abnormal bleeding after intercourse and was prescribed Nora be, I was so scared of taking this due to the fact that I've taken the patch, the shot and the combo pill and they all sucked, they all caused weight gain, hair loss and moodiness and my period lasted FOREVER. So I expected no less from this pill. But to my surprise my period stopped when it was supposed too, no bloat, weight gain or hair loss so far. Guess my body doesn't agree with extra estrogen so protestrian it is. If you have a bad experience with all these estrogen bc's I suggest giving this a try. Only thing I hate about it is taking it everyday at the same time but dealing with that rather then the estrogen side effect is minor."

"I am 44/45 with uterine fibroids that caused severe anemia to point of transfusions. I've been taking Norethindone for 2 months. My period 1st month was longer and had some heavier bleeding. I went from bleeding for 5 days to 8 days. I bled through clothes within 3 hours a couple of times and had some random bleeding but I chalked that up to breakthrough bleeding. I am careful about taking the pill at same time every day. The 2nd month is when things got out of hand: it felt like this medication turned everything up several notches. The clots got bigger and more of them. I had increased pain and bleeding to the point where I started canceling plans for fear of bleeding through my clothing or the pain. I finally had a random period of bleeding in 2nd week that was like a full-on period but soooo much heavier. I was bleeding through my pad, panties, and pants in less than hour. So many pads, laundry and shame...not worth it."

Nora-Be (norethindrone) "I have abnormal bleeding with heavy clots every day. I go for days if not weeks or months with spotting after an 8 day cycle. Back in December 2018 I got the Mirena IUD and my body expelled it on the 29th day. I got it the second time and again it came out by the 2nd week. My Dr. recommended Nora Be and after reading all these side effects I decided not to even bothered with it. So thank you to all of you because your comments do help."

"Dr prescribed this to me on June 29, 2016 I had started my period a day or 2 before my appt. I was experiencing very painful cramps, heavy bleeding, and some passing of clots while menstruating. After taking this medication my period is still on or I'm still bleeding. A much more heavier flow with huge clots being passed now. This made my symptoms worse than before and I have been bleeding since June 29th, today is July 12th. Go back to the Dr today a Lupton Depot shot and I may stop this therapy altogether and continue to deal with my previous symptoms. Not worth it. I'm 42 yrs old have 2 adult kids ages 25, 27 and had a tubal around 2007."

"I’ve been struggling with PCOS for years and my periods were crazy heavy when they came. I tried the combo pill for a few months and started getting awful migraines, turns out that was from the estrogen giving me dangerously high blood pressure. So my endo put me on the mini pill to see if a single hormone pill would help. I haven’t had my period in almost a year and that is exactly what I wanted this pill for it is amazing. I have noticed I’m having a hard time losing weight and I’m nauseous a fair amount, but it’s better than being practically bed bound for a week every month."

"I was prescribed this because of my heavy bleeding and irregular periods. My doctor told me this was the least effective pill for birth control which I’m ok with. The first month was the hardest for me. I would take it in the morning and I felt like rubbish all day. I was nauseous and I could tell I wasn’t focused. Also the breast tenderness was SO bad. My doctor recommended I take it at night and that helped tremendously. I literally don’t have periods anymore I just have slight discharge. I love it"

"I've been on almost every birth control other than depo and the IUD since I was 15. Now 29. I got off bc around the age of 25. I started noticing that I would spotting between periods. Nothing major. Just very light pink. I never spotted between periods before. I also started having pain during sex. Went to the doc. One of the best gynos she immediately said it was fibroids and maybe endo. She put me on 5mg norethindrone. I take a half a pill everyday. I had multiple large fibroids and a very large ovarian cyst. Had surgery in December to remove everything. Now I am great! Sex life is amazing, no emotional swings, no pain. Finally on a birth control that agreed with me. Considering my doc said I have to be on it until I am ready to have kids to keep the fibroids away. I suggest to you ladies to maybe try a lower dose bc. Its been amazing for me. Hope my experience helped someone."

"I have experienced very abnormal menses for the past 5 years...finally after growing tired of bleeding almost every day of those 5 years I went to the OBGYN and she put me on Zarah with directions to take all pills up to 3 weeks then skip the next week. However this did not stop the menses..so she put in a Mirena and gave me Norethindrone also...I am still bleeding, I have bled every day for over 8 1/2 weeks since seeing this Doctor. I have experienced cramping, sweating, mood swings, fatigue and heavy legs at night in bed. I hope they can do something soon because I am ready to take out my uterus!! this Insane constant bleeding is driving me nuts!!"

Jencycla (norethindrone) "I was given this birth control for PCOS after my previous pill (Diane 35) caused blood clots to form in my body. The only side effect I had is extreme boob tenderness and tightness that went away after a couple weeks, though my nipples still feel sore. If I miss even one pill or am late more than an hour, I get a period. I didn't have a period for a whole year and even on Diane 35 I wasn't getting much but boy did Jencycla turn that around!"

Errin (norethindrone) "Started on Errin 4 weeks after I had my son and I have been on it for almost 4 months now and the last 2 months I have had a period 2 times a month which is so unusual for me. After reading everyone's experiences with it I am glad I'm not the only one that is like this. I was wondering if it was my body getting back on track after having my son or the birth control. Since I'm a smoker I was put on this and it was the only pill offered to me. It was this or the IUD and I really don't want a foreign object in my body. Great as a birth control but for me I was using it for 2 reasons and it was as a birth control and to STOP my periods."

Nora-Be (norethindrone) "39/ no kids. I have always had issues with taking BC, estrogen makes me a moody, bloated beast. I was diagnosed with endo 5 years ago. Got IUD w/ hormone, worked for 2 years and I've been bleeding now off and on for months. Was just in to see my OB last week and he suggested Nora-BE. At first I was hesitant but he explained that the progesterone dosage is the same as IUD and a fraction of the hormone compared to the progesterone pills. I've taken it for a week here and there to shrink cysts. So I said ok. Took my first pill last night. Today I was more calm and patient, no appetite at all. Will post update in a few days."

Sharobel (norethindrone) "I was prescribed Sharobel for abnormal bleeding and because I can’t take estrogen due to clotting problems. It started out rough - the cramping was severe and my periods were heavier. I had horrible breast tenderness. There are definitely pros and cons to taking this pill. I’ve been on it a year and it hasn’t regulated my cycles. I sometimes have two a month, sometimes I’m very late or sometimes I just have spotting. I’ve gotten some acne and minor hair loss. However, I used to have chronic UTI’s and that stopped after starting this pill. My cycles are also now extremely light and here and there, no cramping and really no pms. I’m staying on it."
