"I've taken these as needed and every time I have to prepare myself for being "uncomfortable" and prepared by not leaving the house for at least 4-5 hours. I have to say it will make you go however the next 3-5 hours are unpredictable. I've experienced some withdrawal type feelings as well as anxiety/ restlessness. I keep this medication on hand incase I really need it to "go". I may take 1/2 of a dose and see if I can get a more gradual BM."

"The medication worked very quickly but I had severe stomach cramps & nausea for several hours. This was a miserable experience, one that I can't imagine subjecting myself to on a daily basis. I also experienced some mild withdrawal type symptoms- muscle cramps in my legs & some mild anxiousness."

"This is by far the worst nightmare medication I’ve ever taken! I had severe cramps like labor pains! Does not work! Metallic taste in mouth! I have been using Percocet for 2 weeks only every 12 hours after spinal bone infusion which in itself was very painful!! Never dreamed the pain I’d be in after movantik!!!! Only took 1 pill! Did not make me use bathroom only in severe abdominal and lower back pain! I just threw away 29 pills!!!"

"Started taking Movantik 25 my. Was very skeptical about it after reading reviews. I have been on opiate for 10 yrs. for chronic back pain. I spoke with Dr. and he said I could use zofran and bentyl if needed. Took first dose waiting for the worse. I had bm within 2 hrs. of taking medicine. Normal side effects first day. 3Rd day was rough nausea, cramps and fatigue. Continued side effects lasted about 2 wks. Not unbearable. Started having 2 bm's a week. So much better then every 14+ days. And then only with major colonoscopy cleansing. I experienced irritability mood swings. Dr. had me stop and switch to Amitiza. That was awful didn't help made symptoms of OIC return with vengeance went back to Monvantik."

"I have been on various opioid pills for five years and fentanyl patches for two years. I was generally able to cope with the OIC symptoms from just the pills with 1500 mg of magnesium and an occasional Linzess, but when I started the fentanyl patches, I was fairly sure I was dying. The Linzess didn't even touch this constiption. Movantik returned me to my pre-fentanyl condition of only mild constipation. For anyone with severe OIC, mild constipation is heavenly. I have had none of the reported stomach pain, withdrawal sympoms, etc. I take it at least an hour before or two hours after eating. I do still need to take an occasional Linzess. When I ran out for two days, the OIC came back immediately."

"Just one 12.5 mg of this and it works in about 30mins. However I get the worst anxiety attacks I have ever had! I'm not kidding. The anxiety lasts for 3 to 4 days from just one dose. It feels like I am having a heart attack or worse! I keep thinking how do people take this stuff everyday? Today I had not had any and it was day 4. I felt great but wanted to poop fast so I could go to the beach. Forget it. In 5 hours I was right back with the heart attack. It also makes my bones hurt. If I bump into anything it feels like I broke the bone! So then I have to live with the anxiety while putting ice on whatever I bump. I'm not even bumping anything hard. It happens when I just brush against a door. I'm going back to Magnesium powder."

"Negative and potentionally dangerous experience. All Movantik did for me was give me gas and painful cramps all day/night. For the entire 2 weeks I took it I did not have any BM. Thankfully I was switched back to my regular OIC medicine and could make. If I would have continued to take Movantik, I was running the risk of a serious blockage being created from that medicine, so I strongly recommend that if this does not work for someone within 14 days to immediately consult a doctor!"

"I have sensory neuropathy and have been taking to opioids for chronic pain for 7 years. For six years I had continuous constipation and had to do use two bucket enemas per week. I tried movantik for 4 weeks and there was no effect. I tried Amitiza also for 4 weeks, and there was no effect. My GI said both must be taken. Now I have not had to have a bucket enema for six weeks, it's fantastic to be almost normal as far as bowel movements go."

"My experience is the product works extremely quickly. If you have been taking opioids for an extended period of time and take this product, you will have multiple bowel movements approx an hour after the first dose. I also suspect this fast acting medicine wains after a few hours. More information should be given, specifically if cutting the 25mg tablet in half is an acceptable procedure for "reducing" the dosage to 12.5mg. Finally, I noticed my urine developed an offensive odor after starting Movantik, not sure if anyone else experienced this..."

"I started taking Movantik four months ago. At first it was like a miracle. I had a bowel movement soon after taking it in the am. As time went on my bowel movements became days apart and I needed to supplement with senna and ducolax. I try to eat as much fiber as possible. I'm going to try milk of magnesia. I must say that my stools are very seldom hard and I'm very happy because hard stools caused so much pain that lasted several days. I did have gas and stomach cramps but rarely anything really unpleasant."

"I've been taking this medication for 3 days now, and have had 0 side effects and 0 results. It almost seems as if I'm taking a placebo. I will give it a full week but not expecting any results. Back to Linzess and 2 BMs per month...."

"Ok I'm NEVER taking that movantik EVER again!!!!! I feel like I'm going to die! Insane stomach pain, cramping, sweat pouring off me, chills, lightheaded ness, diarrhea, crazy lower back pain, I threw up while on the toilet... uhh... no! That pill is awful! I'll deal with the constipation.... I can't handle this. I'm lying on the couch downstairs in excruciating pain, shaking, sweating and wanting to puke. So yeah... you could say it “worked” but I’m not willing to deal with the consequences."

"It's a complete contradiction, on one hand it'll make you go for sure, till it's running down your legs in the middle of the night. On the other hand it only works as a fast acting medication. So you get to go thru the cramping, sweating, irritation, withdrawals and panic every time you want to go. I took my second pill a few weeks ago and posted the effects here. I haven't taken anymore but am still having all of these side effects every time I have to go.???? I thought I would be over all this by now. I'm miserable along with sleeping legs....."

"I messed up. It didn’t say on the label not to take it with food so I took it with dinner. Then I read the reviews and was terrified. I take 85mg methadone daily btw, down from 180mg slowly over the last four years. Anyways, 15min later, I was cleaned out! No cramping. No diarrhea. I kept waiting for the precipitated withdrawals to set in. I was certain they would because I took it with food and figured I’d absorb more of the drugs and be screwed. I was only prescribed the 12.5mg. But guess what? The precipitated withdrawals never came! I didn’t have any negative side effects!! The poop wasn’t even hard to get out! It was like a dream! A poop dream. I will update if I get any bad side effects with continued use! AND, Medi-cal covered the entire cost!"

"I've been taking opiate medication for approximately 3 yrs for chronic back pain from an injury/automobile accident my Dr gave me a few sample packs and instructed me #1 25mg tablet of Movantik daily on the second day which was in my normal 4-5 day period so I can't say that it was induced from taking the Movantik anyhow I continued taking it for another 6 days and nothing at all so I felt it was definitely time to go back on the Amitiza before I stopped all together other than I didn't feel any other symptoms."

"Took 25 mg yesterday AM and slept for 5 hours. I am also a spinal cord injured person and that plays a big role in bowel incontinence. Will speak to pharmacist about lowering dose. Also some reviews insinuate they dropped methadone because of Movantek. Would appreciate comments from those who have done this."

"So for constipation, 10 stars! It worked fast too but if you are not taking your pain pills, do not take! I thought I'd be ok with the fentanyl patch in my system as I had not needed one of my oxycodone that day and I had horrible side effects of withdrawal symptoms, fever, chills, couldn't get warm then would sweat real bad it was terrible. I thought I had an infection again because those side effects mimic infection too. Today I really want to take one but am scared, should I take it BEFORE I take my pain pills? What works best? I'm already constipated, don't need to be feeling sick also! Thanks!"

"First dose worked great. Then comes horrible pain. I only use in dire straits when it's been 5 days and nothing else works. Sometime it takes days for Movantik to even kick in. That's what made me find this board, it's been 3 days this time and it hasn't worked, but I haven't had any stomach pain. My pain experience doesn't sound as bad as some of yours. Try heating pad on stomach. Or my joke, just stay full of poop! It feels better!"

"I have been taking dilaudid for about a year for spinal pain and soft tissue pain from fibromyalsia and interstitial cystitis. I have been taking it for 1 week and still have not had much of a bowel movement. I see that some are experiencing horrible side effects. I must say I haven't had a single side effect. Just the regular bloating and discomfort of constipation. I'm still getting impactions. But my doctor told me to take it, period, without specifying time of day. I just read you should take an hour before breakfast. I was taking mine at night! I will change to morning tomorrow. So far it hasn't helped at all."

"I have been taking Movantik for four days straight now as directed by my pain management Dr and the pain in my stomach is so severe that I think I might pass out. The pain is unlike any pain I have had. It isn’t the gassy pain I have had before this is different and much worst, soooo nauseated, Heart burn/acid reflux incredibly bad and suffering thru this all and I have not gone to the restroom yet. I am throwing this bottle out. I like you all, was researching this medicine because I feel sooo bad. I was Completely unaware of the side effects and withdrawal symptoms that this medicines causes. Maybe some of this is withdrawals as well. Thanks to all for sharing your experiences. If not for you I would have continued taking this.."

"I took this ONE time, and I will never take this again. I took it 12 hours ago, and have been up the entire night with explosive diarrhea. Chills, stomach ache, feeling like I'm dying. But the absolute worst part is, it feels as though I've been stripped of my pain medication so I am in so much back pain that I've been crying. Nothing will stop it, and I've even taken more pain relief this morning. I really felt like going to the hospital, I'm in so much pain."

"Only been taking this drug for one week. My Pain Doc gave me some samples of Movantik 25mg. Took it around 7am. By the 3rd day it started doing what I had read. However by the 6th day I had mild withdrawl. I still could function. I took my dose of ms contin 45mg and after about an hour I was feeling better. Today I asked my pharamacist about cutting it in half and she didn't see a problem. So I will let you know how that works out. I am supprised that many have related like total withdrawal symtpoms. For me OIC with IBS disables me about 3 days a week. I am so sick that anything is better. So at this point I am taking 45 mg Morpine ER 3 times a day. 1 10 mg Norco daily. I think with adjusting it that it will be helpful for me in the long run"

"I took one pill. It made me go about an hour later. I was just trying to take a nap but had to get up to try to use the toilet because of the sharp pain ripping through my upper stomach area. I actually found this site because I wanted advice to find out why I am in so much pain. The reviews here confirmed my suspicions about this drug. Glad it was only a sample pack."

"This medicine is bad. I had severe vomiting and diarrhea for 12 hours straight. I also had severe stomach contractions after only one pill. I'd rather be constipated than take this again. Please Be Aware!!!"
