"I have been on 100 mg's of methadone for almost 4 months and my constipation has been miserable! It got to the point were I was so bloated that my pants were not fitting and I had to buy new ones because of all the stool in my stomach. Well I got desperate and asked my doctor for help, and after being prescribed lesser stimulant laxatives and Colace to no avail, I landed Movantik. I took it after I ate dinner (2 hours after, as instructed) and I ended up going to bed only with a slight cramp in my stomach. I am positive it was not due to the med, it felt as if my intestines were waking up and beginning to work again. When I woke, I had the best, most normal BM ever. I am so happy for this med 12/10. I will update if anything changes. 9/3/16"

"Used opioids for years went on methadone and movantix and worked within hours after not going for a week at a time almost regularly. Now go everyday and have lost 10 pounds to boot! So happy this drug exists . I had no pain at first a little intestinal cramping moving out of my system, after a few days regular no cramping at all, miracle fix for constipation for people who have to regularly take pain meds!"

"I have to say I was somewhat relieved to see that I wasn't the only one who suffered so greatly with this drug the experience (but sad to see others suffering) I truly thought I was dying and I kept telling myself it'll be over soon it'll be over soon the pain chills and vomiting absolute suffering was unlike anything in recent memory for me.. I'll never take this drug again and I'm afraid to take anything like it it was that severe of a reaction and this was my 4th day taking this drug the first night the cramps were pretty rough but short-lived last night I just truly never thought I was going to survive it.. It lasted about 3 hours.. Which felt like eternity.. Today I'm just so weak feeling.. it's going in the garbage $323 wasted..."

"I have been on opioids for over 8 years. Movantik was suggested after an ER visit due to constipation. On my first night of taking this pill, I went into the ER with severe diarrhea (5 episodes in 2 hours), cramping, and nausea. I took the pill again the next night and still got cramps with diarrhea but both were not as bad as the night before.I kept taking the pill at night before bed and the side effects got better and better with each continuous night. By the second week, I was no longer cramping nor getting diarrhea. When taken at 10pm, I would have a bowel movement at about 6am and it was loose without needing a laxative. It is my suggestion that even if the first few nights brings diarrhea, cramping, nausea, and other discomforts, to stick with it; It will get better. As painful as those first few nights may be, the longterm outcome of it will be worth it more than the struggle of dealing with the consequences of not staying on Movantik."

"I have full body RSD. (CRPS). I started taking opiates for the first time, 10mg of Methadone 2x's a day since Oct of 2015. Linzess high dose never really worked. I tried Movantik and it worked the first day. After that, horrific abdominal pain and cramping. Almost couldn't drive when it hit me when I went to Vote here in Florida. This drug is garbage. Expensive garbage. Try it, but be careful. Don't get your hopes up."

"I've tried every laxative (OTC and prescription) for my Suboxone induced constipation, and while it does cause withdrawal and some pain, it actually works without me needing to stay home all day so I can be near a toilet. I will say that it seems to weaken the effects of the Suboxone"

"Worst reaction to a drug I ever had. Horrible 24 hrs after taking the first 25mg sample. Severe stomach ache, bloating and cramping. Severe, extreme dizziness...and the drug blocked my morphine and gave me horrible opioid withdrawal effects. I was close to going to the ER but kept telling myself it would be over soon. It didn't happen for 30 hrs. Felt like passing out...I was a mess. I take a lot of meds for chronic lyme, fibro and chronic crps pain. I would never take this again. What has helped me is the otc diet pill ALLI which blocks fat from absorbing in the stomach and linzess. The movantik was a horrible experience for me and will never take again.... opioid withdrawal symptoms are awful."

"This medication literally saved my husband's life. He has been on OxyContin for 16 years. He's tried everything! He truly thought he'd have a heart attack from pushing. Dr gave him samples of Movantik, 30 min later, a BM. No problem. Been the same story for over a month. I saw so many negative reviews, and I'm so sorry this did t work for you... I hope you find the one thing that does!"

"Well it did what this medicine was suppose to do although it did cause a small duodenum perforation that landed me in the hospital. I had severe constipation from methadone which I came off of due this issue. I felt no pain I'd like to add and I would give it the thumbs up. Umm I was prescribed it after my second day off methadone to reverse the problem. It seemed to work. Better, gentler than Relistor. Hopefully you folks find this helpful. Also I did have a little withdrawal such as sneezing and mild bone chills but the end out come I feel was well worth it!! Good luck!"

"My doctor gave me this cause I’m on high doses of opioids for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) or Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) and spinal arachnoiditis. This was horrible. I was given trial packs first 25mg I took, them so much pain in my belly I could not move. I was curled in fetal position contemplating calling ambulance. Horrific pain and deep bone pain in both my legs far worse than my CRPS pain plus nauseous, chills, I thought I was dying. Horrible. Threw them in the trash."

"I started using Movantik for the first time on New Year's Day. I read all I could about the drug and decided to take it. After about 15-20 minutes I experienced some very minor abdominal discomfort. After about another 15 minutes I had the feeling I had to make a bowel movement. I was amazed the medication worked so well and quickly. I had my bowel movement. I had to make another smaller bowel movement hours later that same day. So far the first day of using this medication was a success."

"I read some of this stuff and just lol. "Worst cramps ever" "Horrible pain" "Wanted to die" "Withdrawals unbearable" I think the problem is many of you, in this modern age, cannot stand a little discomfort because you haven't had to most of your life. ...science has done so much to improve our lives."

"This med delivered exactly what it was made to do. I found it very effective and extremely easy on my body with no side effects whatsoever. I highly recommend it for anyone who has been on opioids for as long as I have, which is a very long time."

"I have had a very positive experience with this drug daily over the last 2 months. Side effects nil. If you are concerned about side effects you should talk to your physician, but my two cents would be not to be dissuaded by a few bad experiences reported on this board, as those are extreme outliers if you look at the label. Anyway, best advice is always to talk to your doc. Good luck if you are looking for help on OTC drugs, like I was!"

"I have been on different opiods for a chronic pain issue for 15yrs but, since I started taking methadone 5 years ago I've had horrible problems with constipation. They kept me on myralax 34mg twice a day and stool softners but even that would only allow me to use the bathroom maybe 3x's a week. I was given relastor as the injection at home and the pain was unbearable for 9 hours and, it did not work. I was so scared to take Movantik but, I'm so glad that I did! Just one pill and everything inside me finally came out! My cramping is very minimal, nothing that really hurts much at all, more "Hey, the pill is working" type of movement and cramps. They have coupons for $20!"

"my advice on movantik is understand that movantik is an opioid blocker in the same manner that naloxone (found in suboxone) is an opioid blocker. My husband took 12.5mg and was thrown in withdrawal. Nausea first, chills, fever, shaking so hard the bed was vibrating. I thought movantik worked on the backed up s**t but it stops the opioid from working. Of course you will have diarrhea when your pain meds are cut off. It may not happen to everyone but it happened to my husband. I guess it's back to OIC"

"I’ve been on opioids for about 10 years and have always had problems going to the bathroom (constipation). My doctor gave me 25mg Movantik to take in the morning and it worked for me within an hour of taking it. It gave me horrible cramps so we’ve cut the dose to 12.5mg. I still cramp a little but that’s my only side effect. Some days I don’t go to the bathroom after taking Movantik but sometimes I don’t eat much due to pain. I will never go without Movantik. I feel so much better every day not being bloated and ‘backed up’."

"I have been on opioids for over 10 years and have always had a problem with constipation. I have used several over the counter stool softeners which rarely worked. I could sometimes go almost a week before having a bowel movement. I continue to live with this issue until my doctor recommended'Movantik. He provided me with samples which I started immediately. This drug is a miracle!! i have had a BM almost every day. I have not had any side effects and I feel great"

"I've been on opiates for many years because of lumbar scoliosis with multiple failed back surgeries. As of the last 5 or 6 months, my constipation worsened to the point where NO laxatives were effective. My bowels had almost stopped working. So far, after 3 weeks on Movantik, I have a regular BM almost every day. I do have to use a little Milk of Mag and a stool softener and eat oatmeal to help it along but, I am SO much better! I am grateful for this drug but it is VERY expensive. I had to make a choice on whether to stay unclogged or take a camping trip to Big Sur. I chose to be unclogged. Sad, I know but health comes first. Hopefully, I will get an authorization soon. I am not impressed with Obama Care ."

"Ive been in pain management for 6 years & serious constipation started 2 yrs ago. Linzess & Armitiza did not work. I was stuck using enemas and self manual removal. Awful - and takes time. I have drank 3 Magnesium Citrates with no BM! Movantik works but insurance won't pay. so I take 1 / week from the few samples I get. The pain that starts within an hour of Movantik is the worst I've experienced: doubled over at the gut: crying like it could be anER problem. But I am doubtful of ERs so I try to make myself comfortable at home while I empty for 5-24 hours. Bloated completely uncomfortable and must plan to do nothing until the BMs end. do feel a little withdrawal so I take meds. Movantik is my only option Wish it was more gentle."

"My pain management doc has me on time release morphine for spinal injuries because other modalities have not worked. Of course, I have severe constipation. Was given samples of Movantik. I took one pill and within one half hour, had severe cramping and within one hour, total diarrhea. Also had some withdrawal symptoms. I waited a few days, became constipated again and thought I would try it again. Same effect again except this time, I am three days out from taking the Movantik and I am still experiencing withdrawal symptoms...nervousness, runny nose, anxiety, headache and nausea. I have reported the adverse reactions to my doc and will be reporting them to the FDA as well. I am a 67 year old male."

"I was surprised when I read all the comments about the side effects, I should have read this site before I took Movantik. I also though I was going to die, I had all the side effects listed here. I'm afraid to take it again. I'll try cutting the pill to a quarter and see if it works without the side effects.. I will keep you posted."

"I've been on opioids for severe neck, and back pain (post-surgical) for more than 10 years. My gastro tested me on several drugs for constipation without success. Movatik was the least expensive and actually created a serious BM* within an hour. *Unfortunately, I experienced severe cramping, sweating, lightheadedness, exhaustion during and 1 hour after. I won't take Movantik every day due to cramping, sweating, weakness, but I can endure the pain once a week. * In all fairness I started Oxygenated Magnesium 07 (magnesium oxide) from a health shop- 3 at night. Mag 07 gave me one BM every 3 days. If I take 4 Mag 07 at night I have a decent BM the next day. Nowhere as significant as Movantik - but NO cramping sweats, etc. Mag 07 may well have set the stage for success with Movantik. I'll stay with Mag 07 and Movantik only once a week. For me, this is a magic combination."

"Tried OTC and nothing worked. This worked quickly for me and has now continued to work for 5 weeks. Have read this board re side effects of others, but that has not been my experience. Read the label and talk to your doc -- looks like overall the experience of bad side effects is rare for patients who try this med, but talk about it with your doc -- for me this has worked where nothing else did."
