"This is crazy, today is my 4th day in a row to take movantik and no effects. On the first day I went to the bathroom and nothing since. No pain, no poop, no nothing! Weird huh. But I will tell you AFTER I had taken my first dose I started doing some reading on the med and OMGOSH I read some horror stories so immediately I prayed that the med would have no bad effect on me and It has not had one single pain or bad effect on me and its the fourth day so think all is good And although I've only pooped one time my bloating had subsided greatly, ooooh and bloating was a HUGE issue for me. I will update in a week or so. "

"The terrible withdrawal symptoms listed in most of these reviews are enough for me to skip the trip to doc and try Movantik. The way to go, at least for me (have fentanyl patch and breakthrough opioids for over 10 years). Get MIRALAX but buy the generic brand, you get 3 huge bottles for about $22 bucks. I didn't personally take Movantik, after reading these reviews I wanted to provide an option for all of you who go through the opioid induced constipation. It is sooo bad and hurts soo much. I take the generic MIRALAX, every day without fail. I also take the 100mg docusate (over the counter now) one at night and morning. It has worked very well and my constipation was soo bad. Of course check with your doc before using."

"I had been backed up literally for a year. Little drubs and drabs finally resorting to medical marijuana for pain, which did not work for my back pain, but somewhat stimulated my bowels not nearly as needed though just enough to break the agony. Was prescribed Movantik 25mg the first day I called 911 I thought something was severely wrong, it was the medicine doing it's job. after what seemed to be hours I was done until the next day and still pretty much the entire month. The 25mg was too strong so I take 12.5 It took a good month to finally adjust. Yes it hurt at first my bm was hard as a rock, but but after all is said and done I have a normal life, I can eat now too! Oh I am on 60 mg methadone 30mg hydro codons. Good Luck, it works."

"I have Raynaud's I have rheumethoid arthritis and I also have fibromyalgia therefore I'm prescribed opioids which everyone knows cause constipation. Movantiks is a life saver. Although it's says take one a day it's my belief it should only be taken when you can't go. Yes you will have cramps and sweating but ultimately this medicine works and I would recommend it to anyone."

"Ditto on every negative review I've read about this drug. I have had severe hemorrhoid swelling, burning and pain caused by the pressure of OIC. Although this drug was effective, the nightmare which preceded relief far outweigh ever taking this Big Pharma disaster. A mule couldn't tolerate this drug."

"Been on opiates for 10 years, broke my back had a fusion and have basically suffered since... talked to doc about the med the 1st two times I was amazed and sooo happy to have relief.. 3rd time I took it I was in withdrawal and couldn't go to work it was so bad :(. And I took it at night all 3 times. I'm so disappointed that it did this. I'm scared to take it again but now again back to being stopped up "

"I take three hydrocodone a day and normally take a fiber supplement but find myself in trouble sometimes. Taking this in 25mg starts working in a few hours for me and last two days ending in nausea. I'm just not happy ruining two days so I found over the counter Magnesium Citrate that you drink and fast solution with no lasting nausea."

"I have Fibromyalgia, IBS-C, & worst of all, OIC. I took as prescribed one day.I got horrible pain and withdrawal symptoms, Gut gurgled for a couple hours in the morning. Then Zip, Nada, Nothing!! I was out after that. 2nd day too sick. I thought I should give it a 2nd try 2 wks later to make sure as I had high hopes I might get back some of my life. Same again but worse. Kept repeating symptoms at odd times for 4 days so far. I dread reliving withdrawals at bedtime. Docs should know Fibromyalgia is brain related disease so the med is crossing the blood barrier."

"So I am on 70 mg of Methadone and have been on it for about 4 years. It is what causes my super horrible constipation. I tried 1 25mg Movantik for the first time yesterday. I took the pill at 1pm on an empty stomach when I got home from the pharmacy within 20 minutes I experienced the WORST stomach pain of my entire life. I immediately ran to the bathroom to try to go and couldn't. I had to go lay down immediately the pain was so intense. This was on and off for about an hour with no luck using the bathroom. Then about 1 hour and a half after taking the pill I was in full blown withdrawal. It was terrible I was crying and in so much pain. I was contemplating going to the hospital but I couldn't even walk and muster up the energy to go. I will NEVER take this medication again and I am very very upset my Dr did not warn me about these side affects. Had I known the risk I would have never even tried it."

"I have been taking opiates for ten years with the common side effect of constipation so my Dr prescribed Movantick. It worked but I really thought I was going to die . The cramps sweating head spinning and yes it cleanse you out with the worse smell ever experienced. If you use this be ready to suffer"

"I’m on 80 mg of methadone for opioid addiction and it’s worked brilliantly over the past 5.75 years. I ended up with bad methadone constipation—6 days no BM—and severe gas cramps. I read a lot of horror stories on this site and decided to start with half of a Movantik 25mg pill. Within 45 minutes, I had what would have been a decent sized BM—but I was going on 6 days of backup. I had very minimal cramping and no withdrawal symptoms to speak of. 8 hours later, I took the other 1/2–same result. I should note that I’ve been abstaining from taking my methadone for about 2 days hoping that a) it will help get things moving and b) it would lessen the severity of any withdrawal effects. I’m also on Wellbutrin, which has always worked as a buffer with withdrawal symptoms for me. I felt hardly any symptoms after my initial BM each time I took 1/2 a pill. I’d consider it a success—I feel way less blocked up."

"Movantic does nothing more than put you in complete withdrawal. Eat a high fiber diet and you want be put thru HELL!! The pain docs will not tell you this when they prescribe it . And thats what the pharmaceutical co. don't want you to know!. No more of my money."

"Been taking Movantik for 2 1/2 months. At first it seemed to be working great, no side effects with normal daily bowl movements and was thrilled. Then last month, I noticed being nauseous about an hour after taking my morning dose (the literature recommends taking your dose in the morning, 1 hour before your first meal. Usually after eating, it resolved but then I started having random sudden severe cramping and nausea, cold soaking sweats, feeling extremely dizzy, and bad diarrhea ultimately. I didn't realize it was the movantik until I stopped it for a few days. Felt fine and then after restarting it happened all over. I guess that's withdrawal then? Had no idea but figured out it was the movantik causing the all the symptoms!"

"I've been a chronic pain patient for 13 years. I currently take 128 mgs of Exalgo ER daily and 1-2, 8mg Dilaudid IR PRN no more than 6 tabs per day. I'm very familiar with constipation. When offered movantik 25mg every morning, I happily took it and within a day I was going easily but with a cramp pain. After a few more days, my guts started killing me so I stopped taking movantik. 11 days later severe constipation returns. Doc and I think since I've such a high tolerance my gut experienced physical withdrawal so today starting on ~8mg (~1/3 of 25mg tab) every 2-3 days. Anyone else taking Movantik similarly?"

"Let me tell u my movantik experience. Its terrible drug but it does help me use the bathroom but its not worth it. When I take it I have the worst stomach pains I have ever felt. I thought I was going to end up in the hospital. The pain was the worst stomach pain I have ever felt. I'm on 72 mg of methadone daily so its very hard to use the bathroom. While it did help with that the trade off will be the worst pain you have ever felt. If u ever saw the alien movie where they explode peoples stomachs to come alive thats how your stomach feels like it will explodes. Now IDK how many people experience these side effects but from what I read a lot do. If u can take it with out these side effects it deff will help u poop"

"I started taking 25mg yesterday after chronic back ups sometimes up to 2 weeks. Have had the script for 6 months but had the fear of withdrawal so I suffered and didn’t take it. That was dumb. I have stage 4 esophagus cancer which is the most painful cancer they say. So I take whatever I have to to stop it. It took 3 hours before I went and it was a good bit but only once. Going to do it again today and hopefully I will have the same results so I can get it all out of me. I cramped for about 4 hours after the bowel motion and had chills. Just fell asleep about two hours woke up and they were wearing off. No withdrawal symptoms yet so all and all a good drug. Don’t worry about withdrawal symptoms the good outweighed the bad. Will update about a week. Hope it helps you!"

"I have been on Hydrocortisone for several years now and have had constipation for several years. I started taking Movantik for a month now and it has not worked at all. This has been a huge waste of money. I will have to talk to my doctor to find another way to relieve my constipation."

"Thirty minutes after taking Movantik I had a weird taste in my mouth, then started itching. It did work twice, but I feel like I have the flu, felt like it all day today. My pain has been awful today, despite my Morphine ER every 8 hours. Then it hit me, I think this medicine may have done something to my pain medication. It feels like withdrawal. Won’t be taking it anymore. I have enough bad days with this chronic pain from severe arthritis in cervical spine, and herniated discs, foraminal narrowing, Occipitalnyalgia, CMPS and Fibromyalgia, multiple joint osteoarthritis, and motility disorders on my Esophagus, along with Level C Esophagitis and Gastroparesis, etc. , etc. I don’t need this Movantik helping to add to my bad days. It did work and fast, but not at this cost."

"Extreme withdrawal symptoms. Chills, runny nose, cramps, pain, nausea, shakes, felt terrible. It worked well for first two days for a bowel movement but than stopped working as well. The bad side effects continued all the time I was on the drug (2 months ). My pain Dr. was surprised at my reaction to the drug as most of her patients handle it well. Insurance (UH) refused to pay for it after 2 months. My cost was going to be around 400 a month not worth it for me."

"This did nothing to relieve my opioid induced constipation, but I kept taking it for 2 weeks. It made me sick. I had all the awful symptoms of opiate withdrawal and had to take extra medication for pain. It's been 2 weeks since I stopped taking Movantik and I still feel terrible."

"Been taking Movantik 25mg for a year due to opioids. After taking it, within 10 minutes the gas starts. I have an abdominal hernia and get a painful fist size knot that I have to push on to get it moving. This drug is definitely not a sure thing. I still have to take flax oil capsules or stool softeners and sometimes even that doesn't help. I do not go without having a movement for more than two days and then I start with the suppositories and magnesium citrate. Before I got Rx for this drug I had constipation so bad I went to ER twice and that was the WORST enema experience. I thought I was going to die from my pain and the sweating and chills and trying to push. Eating apples daily helps when I can afford them!"
