"I have chronic pain issues and have for years. I am on oxycoton & oxycodone. I have dealt with drug induced constipation for years. I will NOT ever take another dose of this medicine. It's been several hours since I took my first dose and I was surprised that I had a bowel movement within an hour. Regular which was nice for once, then had to go again right away.. and again.. and again, and things got softer, then went to liquid. I went to bed around 1am and was awoken with an urgency to go to the bathroom only to find that I had "wet" the bed by the bowel leaking while I slept for ONE hour. My bed was soaked, I was soaked. Not only was I humiliated like a child would be, but the diarrhea isn't stopping! From what I read best is yet to come!!"

"OMG!!!! This is horrible!!! The cramps n bloating are the worst I've ever had!!! I suffer from multiple pain issues, fibromyalgia, severe neck and back pain with shooting pins and needles with burning down my legs. Due to a failed back surgery. I'll take that pain over the pain I have from Movantik. I have been back and fourth from the bathroom and sat on the pot till both of my legs are numb. Nothing's moving but I'm having such bad cramps I can't move."

"Awful stomach pain that lasted hours. Very small amount of diarrhea. Not worth the pain. I threw the medication away it was that bad. I didn't want to be tempted to take it again. Its really that bad. I wouldn't even bother halving the 25mg tablet. Also the fact that it seems to suck the options out of your body I'm in more pain that before unfortunately I had taken my morphine before this drug. Stay away from it terrible medication."

"I have had constipation for months since taking Pain meds that I need for extreme back pain. The constipation has been so bad that it has made my back pain even worse. My doc gave me movantik and it has truly saved my life. It has regulated me, and made me regular again with hardly any straining. I cannot say enough good things about movantik and how it's been a game changer for me. Amazing!"

"3 stars because it induced a BM. I had been constipated for a couple weeks, not no BMs but few and incomplete with bloating and discomfort. From reading the literature I thought this might work, after several hours. But, wham! one hour after taking (on an empty stomach to decrease systemic uptake) I had a large BM. Great, but then I got severe intestinal cramps. Thought I was going to perforate something. After a couple hours then watery explosive diarrhea the rest of the day. OK, it cleaned me out, but at the expense of great pain and inconvenience. I'll go back to Senna & Miralax. Perhaps my opioid intake is too high for this? It was tested on people taking morphine equivalents between 30 and 100 mg/day. I take more than that."

"Let's be perfectly clear on this: the condition designated as opioid-induced constipation (OIC) IS NOT a recognized medical condition, it is not in the PDR. It is nomenclature that has been synthesized by AstraZeneca purely for marketing purposes and intended to be used to enhance selling points for their new pharmaceutical Movantik. "

"I have read all of the reviews and am surprised at so many with serious side effects. That is a shame, because I have had remarkable success with Movantik. I have taken opioids for 8 years due to chronic and severe degenerative disk disease. I have taken fentanyl, morphine, oxycontin, hydromorphone, etc. The most current treatment is 24 mg of hydromorphone and 15mg of methadone per day. Constipation was a terrible side effect. I continually used OTC of all types, to little avail. At times, I would go 4-6 days w/o a BM. I had a BM on the first day I took 25mg of Movantik. No side effects. I take it once per day, and have a BM almost once per day. Sometime at the most every two days. Stools are not irregular. For me, a miracle drug"

"I have taken opiates for many years primarily for back pain. I have OIC and tried numerous over the counter meds. For whatever reason the OTC laxatives, stool softeners and even miralax caused a horrible interaction with my methadone and I felt like I was poisoned until I stopped taking the OTC meds for about 5 days. Anyway...my Dr. recommended Movantik. I took the first 25 mg. pill and in about 2 hours I had a successful, somewhat easy bowel movement. About 15 minutes later what felt like 5 pounds of excrement came out. The first week was great. Here is where it gets awful...It wasn't until almost 2 full weeks into taking Movantik that I began having HORRIBLE Methadone withdrawal symptoms. I quit taking Movantik. NEVER AGAIN!!!"

"My doctor had me try movantik because I have had 4 back surgeries all failed to relieve the pain so now I have to take pain med's just to feel half way human. I took the movantik and it worked really fast the first few times I took it and is still working not as fast but it works. Yes you can get cramps and shouldn't plan on doing much after taking it because u never know when it's going to kick it. I can handle the side effects and they can be painful. I am so glad that they finally got something that does what it says it's it's going to do. If you're uncomfortable because your backed up give it a try. Good luck to everyone that gives it a try."

"Movantik works. Its somewhat inconsistent. Most days I can count on it. On an occasional day things don't move as well. On those days I supplement with a dulcolax suppository. Be advised that it may take 2-3 days for your system to get used to it. I felt a little tired and edgy. I think that's because it may induce some opiate withdrawal effects. It was only temporary and tolerable. These are all minor issues. Like I said, it works and that a big relief for an opiate user."

"My PM MD gave me samples after being constantly constipated for 2 years. Post L5-S1 disc replacement - 50mcg/hr q72h of Fentanyl and 10mg Oxycodone 6x day. The 1st time you take Movantik make sure you take it on a day off from work! I took it on a weekend, first thing in AM as the instructions say (1h before your 1st meal) and had a BM approx 4hrs later. I strongly suggest taking a stool softener - the BM was so wide from sitting in my intestines that I cut myself while going and bled (awful feeling). I tried taking every other day but gave me nausea the day of taking it and usually the day after, very painful cramping before during and after taking the pill and having a BM, and dec appetite. Will try Relistor inj next."

"9-17-2015 The other reviews compel me to expand my comments. All Movantik does is land on the receptors in your stomach. These receptors are the ones opioid normally land on which makes it difficult to have a movement. I still have responsibility for what I eat and taking stool softeners and Senna tablets so my stool is soft. Otherwise I would be experiencing possible blockages. It is now 3 weeks and it works for me. But you have to pay attention. Also I am not a doctor. This just my experience."

"I lasted less than 3 weeks on Movantik my provider recommend! I ended up at up at ER because of the severe cramping, violent vomiting, bloating, nausea that had occurred. I'm being asked if I had ever had colitis or diverticulitis in the past which is a fat no! They had to put me on an IV bc of the dehydration. I've been off Movantik for a while and my GI is still irritated. Huge disappointment but I'd rather give natural birth to more children because it was a breeze compared to the experience I had with Movantik! Now it appears I have to seek a GI doc to deal with the after effects of being on it!"

"I used samples of Relistor first. Although it caused massive abdominal pain for 30 minutes to an hour, it worked. Unfortunately it costs $2,000 a month & my insurance won't cover it. On to Movantik. Side effects are HORRIBLE. MAJOR withdrawal symptoms. Severe sweating, shaking, going from extremely hot to teeth chattering cold, yawning 50 times in a row, heart palpitations, massive abdominal pain, skin feels like it's crawling with sharp objects for hours. When I say hours..I mean 12-15 hours after my dose. Which was dropped from 25 mg to 12.5 mg. I have a bowel movement after taking about 20% of the time. I don't have a lot of choices though. In 2012, my colon ripped in half. I was in critical care, trying to not go through that hell again"

"I've been taking opioids for back pain for almost a year so I've been dealing with constipation for about the same length of time. I took Movantik last night for the first time and within an hour I had racing heart, shortness of breath, throbbing headache. Now 20 hours later I'm so irritable I could spit and can hardly think straight. 24 hours of anxiety and cramps and nausea! I'm so grateful to see these reviews because I don't feel alone and crazy."

"Movantik worked like a charm for me - when used correctly, meaning no sooner than 2 hours after your last meal or 1 hour before your FIRST meal of the day. I suffer from pain due to nerve damage in lower back (S1 nerve root) after multiple surgeries and take oxy and percocet daily. When I did not follow that very simple schedule (by accident), ie, took it too close to my last meal, I had horrible bloating, pain, cramping and terrible diarreah. So I would GUESS that many of the negative reviews on here MAY be b/c of misuse."

"My opioid constipation condition was really awful, because my Dr had not suggested a laxative at the time of writing prescriptions for hydrocodone, later oxycodone and percocet and I had been taking all of these for more than 2 months and had recently not had a bowel movement in 6 days. I was miserable and couldn't even sit up straight. Movantik was the 3rd prescribed laxative I tried, as the other 2 didn't work consistently. I am very grateful for Movantik. I take it on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning, very little cramping to speak of and (for me) within 2 to 4 hours, I have relief. If I miss a day, I notice I'm not able to go, but I simply make sure to takee it every morning for every day I'm taking opioids. I have definitely found that Movantik works for me."

"As follow up to my previous post: after taking for approximately 6 weeks, I have the following side effects to report. Marked drowsiness for the first few weeks, now gone. Increased facial sweating, excessive sweat only from my face despite not being warm, though it is not always a daily occurance, it still continues. Lastly, I do very occasionally experience yawning an hour or so after taking my morning dose, usually after a sizeable bowel movement. Overall, this drug has GREATLY IMPROVED my quality of life, VERY effective w/ virtually no side effects. I do need to take a Bisacodyl lax.based on what I eat, but I HIGHLY recommend you try this if on long term opiates like me!!"

"Talk about induced anxiety!!! I have NEVER felt so absolutely horrific as I did when using this medication. My doctor prescribed it one week after shoulder surgery when I was having severe stomach problems and constipation. I had already stopped taking percocet when I started taking it. And when I still wasn't pooping.....you guessed it, Doctor prescribed ADDITIONAL dosage! I was crying, in a state of panic, unable to sleep---I NEVER EVER want to feel this way again. After reading up on it, you are not supposed to take Movantik if you are NOT TAKING OPIODS!!!! Thank you for the medically induced anxiety horror show."

"I have been on a small amount of Methadone 5mg twice daily. I can only go to the bathroom like 1 -2 times a week and then it's little hard balls. I took Movantik 25mg 1 time and went within 1 hour that would have been ok, but then a few minutes later my stomach hurt I mean realty hurt I was in tears then I went again, well I have gone so much it is pure water now and I will not take this again, I would be scared to try the 12.5mg. No withdrawal symptoms but the runs well the last time I had this that bad my kidneys were shutting down, so I fear for this, cannot eat or drink anything it runs right through me...be careful, I would try the lower amount first and see how that goes."

"This drug has been amazing for me over the past week that I've been taking it. My experience does not match the other reviews here in any way. I take Movantik in the early morning, and a few hours later I have a bowel movement %u2014 a normal bowel movement, not diarrhea. It's been very good for me."

"Been on opioids for a few years. Taking Miralax for constipation. Dr asked this month how my constipation was going. When I mentioned going twice a week she seemed to think that wasn't good so have me samples of movantik 25mg. Took first time before dinner and it worked great! Thought I would just take when feeling constipation. A few days later took a morning dose. I used the bathroom fine but afterwards Oh the Pain! The worst stabbing lower intestine pain I've ever felt. It came in waves for hours. Bent over thinking of going to the ER. I've been impacted before and had to go to the ER. So embrassing but would choose that over mavantix every time!"
