"My husband was put on this mirtazapine after suffering from depression/anxiety. He was also on citalopram 40 mg. He took mirtazapine at night, and within 2 weeks, I noticed a massive difference for the worst. He changed completely into a monster, he was unbearable to be around. He was snappy, arrogant, kept in silence trances for days, nasty and rude, he even ended our marriage. I contacted his GP, and he was taken off them immediately, and I'm happy to say he is a lot better. He has just been told he may have some brain damage due to lack of oxygen when his lung collapsed, so he has been on a lot of different tabs, but mirtazapine, I think, done more harm than good. Anyone else have this?"

"In reading through these reviews, I really was very skeptical. But... After close to 1 month, I actually have the feeling as described 'the veil has lifted'. I really feel better! The increased hunger has subsided. I coped with that by eating lots of oranges and apples (very filling)! I sleep well and wake up feeling rested. So, please do not give up. It does work. Concentrate on the good, not the side effects."

"I was seriously depressed! Thought I would never be the same. Remeron has been a lifesaver! It took 2 weeks before I started to feel the effects and at 5 weeks I feel like my old self. Side effects for me were sleepiness in the first week and has not been bad since. A few headaches and a lot of eating, but I need the weight anyways. Don't let the weight side effects keep you from trying Remeron. They will subside. Give this medicine a try. Well worth it."

Remeron SolTab (mirtazapine) "I take Remeron SolTab (Mirtazapine) half an hour before bed for insomnia and depression, and it has completely removed all my symptoms. Highly recommend for anyone with insomnia, depression, or anxiety. It is also superbly effective for allergies and takes care of my runny and stuffed nose. It may be the strongest yet safest antihistamine for rhinitis. Sleep is good and refreshing. Not taking anything else, not needing anything else. Took me out of a really dangerous time in my life."

"I am male aged 55. Suffered from anxiety my entire life. Had been addicted to Ativan 3mg for 30 years. Suffered depression 6 years ago and tried Wellbutrin, Prozac, Lexapro & Buspar. I stopped taking Ativan (on my own) by tapering over 4 months. Then panic attack - fear of heights and insomnia struck. My doctor prescribed Mirtazapine after hearing my story. Started on 7.5 mg, then 15 mg and after 30 days, increased to 30 mg. This medicine has worked extremely well for me and that's why I am sharing my story. SSRIs failed. I have been on 30 mg for 45 days now and I sleep 8 to 10 hrs, depression gone, and my confidence is back. Main side effect is lack of energy during the day and anxiety is not completely gone. Give Mirtazapine a chance."

Remeron (mirtazapine) "Remeron was a wonder drug for me the first month of taking it. The first week, I felt so happy and was eating like a pig (I'm underweight, so that was amazing to see me gain so much in a week). I slept like a baby the first night and all the rest of the time I was on it. I would knock out at around 11 when I'd usually fall asleep at like 4 or 5. Then the second month came around. I'm not sure if it was something else, but I started experiencing intrusive thoughts and my OCD started kicking in a lot. My doctor took me off, and now I'm spiraling down again. I'm not sure if it was the medication, but this medication worked well for a while!"

"When I was first given Mirtazapine, it was like a miracle. 15mg. A wonderful night's sleep, and I felt fine. Even my troublesome dry skin cleared. But events and health changes made me think I should cut down to 7.5mg, and then not take it on holiday so I could have a drink. Then I took it after I had just had prostate surgery, and it had a terrible effect with whatever the surgeon had used. When I got home, I tried it again but had awful dreams no matter what dose I took. After speaking to my GP, I was changed to Citalopram. One dose had me in panic mode. I tried Nytol for a couple of nights, but after reading all these reviews, I am going back on Mirtazapine tonight. Maybe 7.5mg only because it makes me have awful dreams. The biggest problem with this wonder drug for me is constipation. I can overcome that with CosmoCol powders. I feel I should write a review to help others. I am 85 and reasonably fit. Good luck all you fellow sufferers."

"I have been on mirtazapine for 1 year now. It was prescribed by my doctor for anxiety and severe depression. I have noticed that my sleep has changed from never sleeping to now I get 8 quality hours. Also, my depression has gone. My anxiety is under control now, I never get panic attacks. I have not gained any weight either! This is a wonderful drug."

Remeron (mirtazapine) "I am using Remeron to help with nausea, depression, and anxiety as I taper off 1 mg of Klonopin after several years of using that drug. It was hard in the beginning; I had headaches and crushing fatigue for weeks. Now, I feel this drug has been a godsend; it helps with all and ensures that I sleep well most nights. This is my third attempt to get off of Klonopin and I have never been able to reduce my dosage so much. I do notice that my weight is now creeping up, so I need to watch that more carefully, but that side effect is one I will have to tackle as I will not give up my Remeron."

"I tried many types of pills for depression - they all made me worse, and one gave me nonstop diarrhea. This one had no side effects and started working in days, I was gobsmacked by the difference. Horses for courses, but it is a wonder drug for me."

Remeron (mirtazapine) "I was dealing with cancer and was given Remeron for depression. After having surgery for the cancer, which was successful, I continued with the drug but was having issues with my blood pressure. My BP would drop over 20 points when I stood up, and I would lose my breath when walking short distances. All symptoms went away once I quit taking the drug. I would not recommend this drug to anyone, as it set my recovery back greatly."

"I am taking 15 mg each night as a sleep aid and an accessory drug to SSRI. Before I started taking it, I read all the negative opinions online, and I panicked. After a few days of taking it, I almost stopped due to its overwhelming effect of extreme tiredness and feeling like I could sleep for 12 hours a day and still be sleepy the day after. But I decided to still give it a try - and I don't regret it. I feel like this drug is a miracle for me: it calms my anxiety in the evening, and evenings were the worst part of my day (my psychiatrist told me it's unusual for patients with depression, as they tend to find it difficult to get up. I always found the evenings way worse). It enables me to get decent sleep at night. You know, don't believe everything you read on the internet. Maybe this drug will work for you, maybe it won't. Maybe it will meet your expectations, so just give it a try, wait 2 weeks and see."

"Remeron helped take away most of my mood issues, and in doing so, I was able to keep my job. It does, however, make me sleep a lot more than usual. I slept 12 hours on it the other night. Citalopram and Risperidone didn't do anything for my mood, so I'm thankful I found something that works."

Remeron (mirtazapine) "I’ve struggled with severe nausea induced by anxiety for years. I went to countless doctors thinking it was a GI issue, but they couldn’t find anything. I finally went to a psychiatrist, and she prescribed me Remeron. I occasionally get nauseous still, but it is bearable and doesn’t prevent me from doing everyday things like it did if I take this medication on schedule. If I forget to take it one day, the nausea returns, but I am able to live everyday life normally with this pill. The one thing I will say is that this pill will knock you out. I work early in the morning and have to take this pill and go to sleep around 7 PM every night, but that is doable for me and definitely worth the benefits of this medication. This medication saved me!!"

Remeron (mirtazapine) "I have been on this medication only 2 weeks. I am finally not crying all the time. I am still not sleeping. I go for days not sleeping, and when I do, it is only for 2 or 3 hours. I am hoping this med eventually helps my sleep time. I don't seem to be having any side effects. If weight gain is a side effect, it will help since I have been too thin most of my life. I have tried so many meds for depression, and this one seems to be the only one that has had any effect on it at all. I would consider it to be wonderful and would recommend it for depression."

Remeron (mirtazapine) "I've been on this for 3 weeks, and I thought I'd leave a review since I always read reviews and have some health OCD. This third week, I've actually been singing along to songs and not only able to make it to work, but am working extra. I haven't had any terrible panic attacks like I had been previously. I am on 15 mg. I will say I was groggy the first few days, stick it out. A bit of breakthrough anxiety, but nowhere near as bad as it was. Hopefully, will continue to go well for me! Good luck!!"

"I've been taking 15 mg for a year and 8 months. Right away I felt better because I slept right through anger and woke up rested. Previously I took 40 mg of citalopram, and I still suffered bad episodes of depression and delusions. Since taking mirtazapine, I've had much longer periods of productivity, much calmer, less intense periods of sadness and distorted thinking. I stopped the citalopram about 7 months ago, so I'm very happy with it. The only drawback is that I went up at least a dress size, and I can't shift the weight, even though I'm healthier than ever and don't drink."

"I'm a male in my early 30s and was prescribed this drug, mirtazapine, to combat severe anxiety and minor depression, which resulted in a lack of sleep. This drug has been perfect for me so far (2 weeks in), and it worked effectively almost immediately when taken at night. I have had no adverse side effects as of yet, my sex drive is actually higher than normal. It's a little tougher for me to get out of bed in the mornings due to the drowsiness, but I'm hoping this will pass soon. It's made me feel the most normal I have felt in many years, improved my working life a LOT due to the feeling of clarity it brings (not euphoria). Friends have noticed a good change in my general attitude, and I'm happily looking forward in life rather than firefighting on a day-to-day basis. This drug may not suit everybody, but it is working wonders for myself so far."

Remeron (mirtazapine) "I started taking Remeron about two weeks ago. I feel better, less depressed, but I am experiencing a different side effect than what is listed. My tongue feels numb, and I can't taste anything very well. Everything has the same taste. I called the advice nurse. She talked with the doctor, and I was advised to keep taking it until my appointment next week. I am going to wait to see the doctor before I report this to the FDA."

"I don't think that this drug deserves any stars. I wish I could rate it in the negatives. It has no therapeutic benefit for me and causes a great deal of harm. I have had issues with hostility, self-harm, and dark thoughts since starting this medication. I was initially put on this medication due to digestive issues, which were thought to be caused by stress after my endoscopy and colonoscopy came back negative. I have tried to get off several times, but I experience severe withdrawal symptoms whenever I do. These include sweating, diarrhea, anxiety, heart palpitations, shivering, lack of appetite, nausea, dizziness, flu-like symptoms, and insomnia. I was never warned that withdrawal symptoms existed."

"In my experience, this drug was terrible. My depression was extremely bad while I was on it, and my anxiety wasn't good either. I went from being depressed to a zombie. My brain felt dead, and after passing out at night, I felt like I couldn't process my thoughts properly during the day. This was only on 15 mg. I went from being able to tone my body up quickly, as I'd always been fit and healthy and never struggled with weight around my stomach area. I went from a size 6-8 to a size 12 within 6 months! Even when I was exercising the same as I used to and eating well, nothing would work. I stopped pooping completely (still don't), the drug has completely ruined my digestive system. At the age of 27, I now go a week without doing a number 2. I absolutely hate this drug. I came off it by tapering down for 2 weeks and then went cold turkey. I was in the ED with severe panic attacks for nights on end, thinking I was dying from heart attacks and chest pains, the worst anxiety in my life."

"Infection caused my sertraline (Zoloft) not to work for a while. Was then put on mirtazapine 15 mg. It worked to a point, but that could have also been because the infection cleared and sertraline was working again. This was after 2 weeks. However, week 3 was when the sedating effects occurred. Sleeping 17+ hours a day, staying in bed 23 hours due to being unable to function (zombie-like feeling) and not physically or mentally being able to get out of bed in the morning. This lasted for around 7 days before I spoke to the doctor and was advised to stop straight away. Lucky I have been signed off work for a few weeks, which is not good due to the nature of my job. The other side effects I got from the drug were feelings of no emotion, no sadness, no happiness, could not cry, felt drained, nothing. Insomnia from withdrawing is still occurring 2 weeks after stopping. Would avoid."

"This is one of the best medicines ever. Highly recommended medicine. I take mirtazapine for 8 months, and it still works great. I feel happy and think more positively. On the other side, it also makes me sleep easily and without tension. Trust me, guys, the world's best antidepressant medicine ever. Thank you to those who made this medicine for depression, it works 1000% for me. Quetiapine and mirtazapine are the world's number one medicines ever!"

"I’ve been on and off of it since I was just 12 years of age. Now I am 23. It is the only medication that helps me. It has pulled me out of psychotic episodes, and it has brought back my appetite when I’ve been unable to eat, and it helps me sleep. It aids with anxiety, and even though it’s typically prescribed for anxiety and depression, it has undeniably helped with my bipolar disorder. This medication is a miracle worker, and although everyone operates differently, I feel it’s worth a try. It will make you incredibly tired at first, hence why it’s given to you at night. Due to this, the first week or so, it will make you fairly lethargic, as well as enhance your appetite. I feel the side effects personally didn’t outweigh the pros, but everyone is different. I’d highly recommend this medication."

"I’ve had a tough life from birth on. At 17, I finally found out what had been holding me back. Diagnosed with Klinefelter's Syndrome. Was suicidal from the age of 8 on. It got much worse after the diagnosis. Life just sucked! Depressed, high anxiety, social phobia, severe insomnia, and had a death wish until my shrink prescribed Mirtazapine. I’ve been taking it for 25 plus years with no major side effects. I sleep soundly for 8 hours, zero anxiety, and life is worth living. It saved me from suicide. Now I only use it for sleep. It is difficult to wean off of, but if you are like me, there isn’t a need to wean down. If it works, let it work. I take 45mg at night. It does have a more sedating effect on lower doses, but my happy place is at the max dose of 45mg. Most drugs stop working after a period of time. Mirtazapine never fails at what it was made to do!"
