Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "My doctor is giving me this to try and get my period under control. I'm 23 and since I was 16 my periods have been very irregular. I have a period once every 5 or 6 months. This is my second time taking this medicine. The first time was in December 2011 (6 months ago) and I started my period on the 10th day. I bled for 5 days, it started out light then became EXTREMELY heavy, I was going through 6 or 7 tampons a day. After that, I had one more period that lasted only one day and was very light. So the doctor told me to try this again. Today is day 9 and have been extremely nauseous since about day 4. No period yet, but there is some excess discharge."

"I am 25 and unfortunately have always had irregular periods. My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for over 3 years now with no luck. My doctor proscribed me medroxyprogesterone 5mg for 10 days in hope for a period followed by ovulation After day 7 on my pill I started bleeding lightly. It wasn't too crazy until my last day on the pill [day 10]. I have now been on my period for 12 long days [& going strong]. It has progressively gotten heavier and clotty [I have to change my pad & tampons every hour or so]. Anyone have a similar story? I'm worried I have been bleeding for so long. I have a doctors appointment Tuesday to see what's going on."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I am 27 yrs old and I've been trying to get pregnant since February 2012. My last menstrual period was March 23, 2012 and I never had period after that. I've been going to my Obgyn for the past 4 months and finally she prescribed me Provera for 10 days once a day pill. And i decided to use ovulation predictor kit 10 days before I took my 1st pill last June 13.2012. On my 3rd day of taking my pill my ovulation predictor went positive it gave me a smiley face. On my 4th day of Provera I experienced a very weird dreams, hot flashes, PMS, backache, a little dizzy. I had my last pill June 22, Friday and this is my 3 day off of it. I'm hoping that I could get my period soon so that way I can start taking Clomid. "

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "Took two pills a day for ten days, and started my cycle three days after the last pill. Felt nauseous the first day of taking the pill, but it did what it was supposed to do so no real complaints. Not sure if my cycle will regulate in the future, though."

"I have been on the generic seasonique since late teens. I am now 34 and my husband and I are finally ready to start a family. I went off birth control in late Aug 2019. I didn't have a period until December and then nothing in Jan and Feb so I called my obgyn. Did some bloodwork on my levels and a trans vaginal ultrasound and everything was within normal range. I was prescribed medroxyprogesterone to take 1 pill for 5 days to start my period. I had my period after day 5. Very heavy but not bad cramps. Lasted 4 or 5 days. I did feel bloated and tender breasts. One week or so after my period I was super horny.. never have been like that before.. and my husband and I had plenty of intercourse. I thought for sure I would be pregnant and then I did not get my period in April. Took a pregnancy test and it was negative so now I will start the medroxyprogesterone again for 5 days My obgyn thinks I should try this treatment before testing my husband's sperm and starting clomid."

Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "My first birth control experience was a disaster; I was taking Tri-Sprintec. Tri-Sprintec made me gain 20 pounds, acne, increased my periods, and did the exact opposite of what it was supposed to do. After one year of searching the internet for an alternative option I came across the Depo-Provera shot. I have been on it now for 9 months (so this is my third shot), and I have come across no weight gain/no periods, and I think I am one of the few women who has been so lucky. The only thing is, for the first month of EACH shot you have bloating, some pain, a little headaches, etc. It goes away for me after that. Nothing I can't handle compared to the periods I was getting before. Everyone is different though but I highly recommend this!"

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "Although this medication helped me restart my menstrual cycle the side effects of this drug is horrible, numbness in arms while sleeping, fatigue, muscle aches, chest pains, itching, very bad mood swings, gas/bloating, WEIGHT gain etc. There was a spot of blood on my pillow one morning after I stopped taking this pill - I don't know if it came from my nose or ears. Also this drug depletes you of nutrients. You will need to take Vitamin B Complex & Vitamin B6 I also took folic acid, iron & vitamin D. Horrible med. I took about 6 or 7 pills skipped 2 days midway. Will look for natural ways to continue my cycle. Horrible synthetic hormone period."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I hate this medicine. Took for 10 days and did get my period the last day. 1st day was light but since than its been cramps that I can barely move & heavy heavy bleeding. On day 6 and in the last 24 hrs, I've leaked 3xs. Once was in an hr period from the last leak. It causes your period but be warned, it can be horrible. Was told to expect heavy but this is rediculous right now. On top of everything I'm 27 & having hot flashes from side effects, massive headaches while taking the meds, and pms which I never have."

"I lost my job cuz of this medicine & I'm an epidemiologist in infectious disease medicine. It has been 1 hard year. Last August 2018, I took 10mg for 5 days. The treatment was for 10 days but I couldn't finish it cuz the side effects. Landed 2 times at the ER. I had taken this before (age 20, 26 nothing happened but at 29 ouch). PLEASE be careful with hormones. I have no idea how this medicine is legal. Doctors don't ever discuss details & then they wash their hands as if nothing happened. I warn every single female I see & have spoken to other scientists in my field about it. Its best to diet/exercise, do natural teas. Symptoms: anxiety, depression, tremors/interior buzzing 24/7, overheating body temp, memory loss, headaches, cramping, lightheadedness, sleepiness, weakness, lack of concentration, I could go on. Save yourself from losing your job & your health."

"So I was originally prescribed Provera about a month ago. I took the 10mg once a day for 10 days & was told to wait a week for a period. A week went by and nothing. I called the doctor and she prescribed me a “stronger” dose, which was 10mg twice a day for 7 days. And I waited another week. I still haven’t had a period. I have PCOS and have been trying to get pregnant. I also had irregular periods and this past year haven’t had a period. I’ve experienced bad mood swings that have been tough for my husband and I. I have to call my doctor in the morning and see what my next steps are. Has anyone else experienced this? And what did you have to do after?"

"I was really worried about taking this medication. I was on birth control and was very moody and emotional and gained about 15 pounds so I went off it and didn't get my period for over 6 months. I was told to take this pill for 10 days and I would get my period 3 to 4 days later. I took it and sure enough... 4 days later, I got it. Very few side effects just that I was tired. My period is kind of heavy but it has been 6 months so I have to make up for lost time. I practically had no cramps and feel so much better than I thought I would. Definitely would highly recommend it. I had a very positive experience."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I took provera for 10 days in order to induce a period, as I was experiencing amenorrhea from PCOS. I had a period the day after I took my last pill of the prescription. I did experience a breakout that was probably related to the progesterone itself, as I never usually break out."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I get very hot with this medicine otherwise it works very well. I had my menstrual cycle for 4 months. I had a biopsy and I was diagnosed with precancerous cells on my uterus. Plus, I'm not ovulating so I needed to take this to get rid of my precancerous cells."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "Took provera because of PCOS. Started taking it for 10 days and started my period immediately after on the 10th-11th day. It does make you feel hormonal or PMS. Felt very angry and irritated while on my period, however this is one I’ll be take once every 3 months since it is considered a “natural” birth control compared to others. I did notice after not taking it for a month that I did start to bleed a little bit on my own. Not sure how next month will go but it’s been positive so far."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I hadn’t had my period since July 11, my Dr prescribed me provera end of October. I had withdrawal bleeding for a week but didn’t get a period. Even 14 days after taking the medicine so my Dr. prescribed me birth control pills to get my period. I took one pill and the next day I got SEVERE abdominal pain, vaginal pain and cramping. I could not walk. I cried for hours and kept taking pain pills. The day after that I started spotting and 6 days after that a full blown period."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I am 24 years old and on my 8th day of taking the pill. I cannot wait until it is over. I was ordered to take the pill because I want to see why I wasn't having a period which was abnormal for me. I haven't had a period in four months though I was always regular. The doctor said there was no harm in me not having a period and that is was probably caused by the birth control shot I had three years before but I should take the pills just to see what happens. The pills seem to have made my PMS worse. That includes menstrual cramps, cravings, fatigue, and moodiness. They were more horrible when I first started the pill and have calmed down a little now but the symptoms are still there. "

Now the last three days have been extremely heavy flow with strong cramping and some nausea."

"I was prescribed medroxyprogesterone after not having a period for 152 days. My periods have always been irregular without any real diagnosis, I’ve been tested for them all. I’m 31 and want to start trying for a baby. I was prescribed 10mg for 10 days and was told that I should have a period within 2 weeks of the 10th pill. On the evening of the 10th pill my period started. It wasn’t crazy heavy, pretty normal and it lasted for 5 days. I didn’t have any other side effects. My experience with it was very positive!"

"hey all! I did not have my period 2 and half months. My husband and I are trying for a baby for the last 4 month. Than my doc gave me provera and one week later I got my period which is like normal period. I am thinking I will take clomid because I really want a baby. My doc said you should try one year before you start to take fertility treatment. What do you guys thinks? Should I take clomid now or try full one year?"

"I havent had my period in over 135 days now. I went to the Gyno and she gave me Medroxyprogesterone 10mg for 10 days to push along my period. Today is day 8 after my last pill an I still have not got period. I am getting really disappointed because me and my other half want to start to try to have a baby, I am 36 years old and with me not getting my period idk what to do anymore. I am going to call the Gyno either tomorrow (Monday) or wait until Wednesday because that will be 10 days after I took my last pill. I really want to start having a family, and making babies. I really hope that there is nothing seriously wrong with me."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I have always had amenorrhea (irregular periods) my whole life. Recently at 21, I discovered that I have PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome) by testing that was done. I am starting to take Metformin to help it. I have to have Provera prescribed every 3 months, for prevention of endometrial cancer. I have depression and PMDD, which is a severe form of PMS, so the only downside is that it makes me extremely depressed for when I do have my period. But it always makes me have my period by the third, fourth, or recently fifth day. It does what it is supposed to do though, and that is good."
