"Started taking this drug for a sinus infection yesterday because I am allergic to a lot of antibiotics. I feel like the sinus infection is better, but I woke up last night with my whole neck hurting. Felt like it was swollen, having bad acid reflux. I don’t know how to describe it. Thought I would push on through, but I have taken my third dose, and I have felt really anxious the whole day, and tight chest and lump in my throat. Don’t like it."

"This drug left me temporarily disabled. My hands were crippled, I couldn't stand on my own, and my bones felt brittle. I would never recommend this drug. I think the hospital was just giving me the strongest drugs they could find to kill whatever I had. The sad thing is, they were just making me so much worse. (I was in my 40s and in good health.) I would listen to your body. If your body is reacting to a drug, get off of it and demand something else with fewer side effects. Don't ever ignore bad side effects, it can cost you your life."

"I was prescribed doxycycline to clear up a serious infection in my tonsils. I don't usually like to take pills, but just a couple of days into treatment, there was a considerable positive difference in the swelling and spots on them. It did make me very nauseated though."

"This drug is horrible. Took one and only one pill. A couple of hours after, I got a high feeling (not in a good way). Then I got muscle soreness and a sore throat. Went to sleep and had vivid nightmares. Woke up with chills. Now I've got a white bump on the back of my throat. Praying that this is it. Can't say I would even recommend this to an enemy."

"Do not recommend taking! Had horrible body aches and swollen lymph node. Dr prescribed me it for 14 days, 2 times a day. I’m one week in and feel worse than I did before taking this medicine. My neck and head hurt so much I have been in and out of the ER and they can’t find anything wrong."

"I was absolutely terrified to take this after reading all the negative reviews and really scary possible side effects. But I had to for a ureaplasma bacteria infection in my bladder that no other antibiotic can treat. I was experiencing extremely uncomfortable bladder symptoms, and after hesitating for a week, I finally took the first dose. Doxycycline is really hard on the stomach, and I learned really quickly to always eat something at least 15 minutes before taking a dose (even just a piece of toast), unless I wanted horrible stomach cramps and vomiting. Otherwise, I had barely any side effects. Just a small headache and dizziness the first couple of days. I felt really encouraged by the positive reviews on here and wanted to add one to hopefully ease some minds! Side effects are rare but can happen, and every person's body reacts differently, so if this is one you absolutely have to take, stay calm, take deep breaths, listen to your body, and take a probiotic!"

"July 27, 2018. Began Thursday evening. This is Friday evening, and I've had dose 3. So glad to have found and read several dozen. Like several, I thought IBS was acting up. Nope. I went to bed Thursday night feeling yucky and somewhat bloated. Today has been horrible. How I wish I'd found this before testing pill 3. I'm in pain. Were it not for the Bentyl I take for my IBS, I can only imagine how truly bad I'd feel. My husband and I were to leave on vacation today. Were. Past tense. Canceled. I just now climbed into bed with the heating pad on my belly for hopefully some relief. Have a steady fever. Given for a sinus infection resistant to Amoxicillin. I'm a veteran and get care at my VA. This is just one more antibiotic to add to my list of will never take again. I've sent a message to my provider so all this will be in my medical records."

"Felt like I got rolled over by a freight train. I took both doses, and I felt like I was gonna die. It made my chest hurt, and my head felt like it was gonna explode. Oh, did I mention excruciating jaw pain? Then anxiety. Wow, this is a bad med, gonna stop this now."

"I was prescribed this for a sinus infection. After a day, I began getting diarrhea. Then a couple of days later, severe headaches that only got worse. Also, neck pain. Plus, my sinuses are so dry and my hair looks awful. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. It's too strong!"

"I was prescribed doxycycline for a sinus infection. I took it for 3 days and had to stop. It has raised my blood pressure to stroke level, caused severe pressure in my head, severely dry sinuses, constant ringing in my ears, and a headache that wouldn't go away! It's been 47 hours since I took the last dose, and the only side effect that is starting to get a little better is the dry sinuses. My blood pressure is still extremely high. I have an appointment with a different doctor tomorrow. I hope he can help me with getting rid of some of these side effects that don't want to go away."

"Was prescribed doxy 100 mg (1 capsule every 12 hours for 7 days) for an ear infection. I'm on day 3, and my ear infection has gotten worse!! Usually, when given an antibiotic, my problem is immediately improving."

"Have had sinus infections, at least twice a year, for over 24 years. Starts out as coughing and phlegm, but within two days you can feel the difference between a regular cold and an infection in the chest area. That's when what you cough up turns from clear, light green to thick tan/beige. Have had quite a few meds over the years, including Cleocin HCL 300 mg (this goes in a large Ocean Mist spray - works well). The doxycycline works the best, but you must follow the directions. One cap by mouth twice daily for ten days. And take with food. If you don't, you will get the nausea and stomach upsets."

"I have had doxycycline 100 mg for 7 days on two occasions, first for a gynecological infection and recently for sinusitis. In both cases, the drug had a very slow onset of action. The symptoms mostly disappeared on day 5, but the short treatment couldn't clear the infection. In the first occasion, I couldn't get it continued and got a bad recurring infection. This time I tried a prolonged treatment. I believe the reason is that doxycycline is a bacteriostatic agent and merely prevents bacteria from reproducing. The immune system itself should kill the bacteria. So, if your immune system is somehow weak, it can't do the work in time. Anyway, doxycycline had a positive effect, even if it was prescribed empirically."

"Took doxycycline for 5 days. Had to stop it due to increased anxiety and poor mood issues. I already have anxiety, and this increased it to unmanageable levels. Had some minor diarrhea. Good news is I am 2 days off, and anxiety is returning to my norm. It did get rid of the sinus infection in 3 days."

"I was prescribed this for tonsillitis and a nasal carbuncle/furuncle. Prescribed twice a day for 10 days. It got rid of the fever and sore throat after a day. The pus pockets on my tonsils are still there, but smaller, and I am on day 8 out of 10. I could not take this pill on an empty or even semi-full stomach, or I would throw up. Even a banana an hour or so before dosing would not be enough to stop the severe nausea. Besides that, no real side effects, except loss of appetite. Not pleasant to take because of the size of the pill and nausea, but it worked."

"Took 6 doses and had terrible stomach cramps as well as gas and bloating. Thought it was my IBS. Had to go to the loo every hour. Stopped it and my symptoms stopped. Really not worth taking for all the pain and inconvenience of the side effects."

"My doctor sent me doxycycline hyclate for a bacterial infection, and after taking it for 5 days, I have been having diarrhea on the 6th and 7th day. I hope that goes soon. This antibiotic has helped my stuffy and 'sneezy' allergic symptoms, although on the 7th day, I am still feeling and sounding stuffy. The doctor recommended 10 days of 200 mg each day; 100 mg every 12 hours."

"Can't rate it yet, only been on it 5 days, but I try to take it on an empty stomach and no dairy milk within 3 hours of taking doxycycline so I get its full absorption into my system. Calcium can make doxy void in your body. My eye doctor prescribed 100 mg once a day for 30 days, but I notice everyone else saying they take it twice a day but are having side effects, but I am NOT, so maybe I'm not overloaded with the drug. I think it's helped my eyelids some in the 5 days I have taken it. They don't seem to burn as much since I have Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and Blepharospasm eyelid problems and no tears, dry eyes. I'm doing this drug, warm compresses 5 times a day, sleeping with an eye mask so my eyes don't dry out more while I'm asleep from the AC or fan blowing at my eyes."

"I took this doxy along with a steroid for a sinusitis infection for 10 days, stopped using it on the 7th day. My infection has cleared up, however, the side effects of this aren't worth it, and I'll never use it again. I'm on the 7th day of this, my neck was stiff, and I was extremely hot and had anxiety to the point where I thought I was going to pass out, and my heart and blood pressure were extreme. For me, this would be the equivalent of a cocaine overdose, seriously! Beware."

"I was prescribed doxy after being sick with a cold for 2-3 weeks. It cleared up my sinuses, and I do feel much better. However, my face has completely broken out after finishing the dose. I feel like a preteen again! It's covered with small little pimples. I wonder how long it will take to go away - hopefully not forever! Definitely take this on a full stomach and don't lay down after. I took one pill late and went to bed after, I was very nauseous and vomited the next morning."

"I was on this for 5 days and stopped taking it because my anxiety was bad. I switched to Azithromycin, and that one gave me psychotic thoughts. I got back on Doxycycline, and this time I’m having nausea, anxiety, my mind is racing."

"3 years ago I was diagnosed with Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF), 30 days of doxy. The first year after, I had major bathroom problems, a headache that lasted 6 months. I wanted to die. I went to an eye doctor, the bacteria was hiding in my oil ducts. More doxy and glasses. I can't produce tears anymore, I have dry eye syndrome. 2 years later, I started smelling a peroxide odor in my nose. Went to the doctor, I had a staph infection in my nose from no tears and more doxy. More digestive problems. This year, I was feeling really down, my wife begged me to get blood done. I went, and my RMSF numbers doubled. 30 days of doxy, this time I exercise, yoga every morning. I eat no yeast, gluten, red meat, and no sugar. And I eat probiotics and prebiotics. Mineral water. And no vitamins or supplements."

"Due to my emetophobia and reading the reviews prior to taking this, I was scared to take this medication. However, I came to learn that it was not as bad as I thought it would be. The only time I got nausea on this was when I took it with too little food. When I would take it with enough food, nausea was absent. The only reason why I dropped the rating from 10 to 8 was because later in the first day and through all of day 2 on this medication, I had a severe headache that made it hard for me to focus on anything else. I don't know if this was a side effect, but I had concerns about it being ICP, so I was that close to calling my pharmacist if it didn't go away by day 3. However, the headache did go away during that time and hasn't come back since."

"Today was the 5th day since I finished my medication, but I still have these side effects on my body. I had flu symptoms, shaking body, and abdominal pain. Was it really normal? Anyone who had the same experience?"

"Started taking doxycycline for rosacea. It seems to be clearing up my face, but about 45 minutes later, it gives me a terrible gut ache for about an hour. I have to take it for another week, but I hope I don't ever have to take it again because it's been miserable!"
