Anafranil (clomipramine) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "It has worked really well for my severe OCD, depression, anxiety, and panic. It stabilizes my mood too. The side effects are awful for me, though. Sexual side effects (like my genitals are numb) and severe constipation are the two side effects that keep me from being on a more therapeutic dose. At 100mg, the side effects are bad. At 50mg I'm OK in terms of side effects, but the benefits are minimal. I will be going up to 75mg and see how that goes. In the past, I had been on 150mg and then 200mg. I had never been happier. I think I may have been too happy rather than normally happy, though."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "The only drug to make a significant difference for me. Has approximately halved my depression, anxiety, and OCD. The main side effect is dry mouth. I can actually enjoy life now after twenty years of misery."

For Panic Disorder "This medicine, clomipramine, saved my life from panic disorder. It took me six long years to find this medicine. I used to read all the reviews on this site hoping and dreaming I would one day have relief like so many on here. In fact, some days it was my only way of keeping hope. This drug took 6-8 long months to take effect for me. It was slow progress out of hell, but every day was better than the one before. Like the sun coming up, you don't really notice it getting light out. Things that were impossible became possible. My thoughts were quieted and my mind could think about other things besides depression and anxiety. I have been on the drug for 6 years now. My depression and anxiety are gone. Like all gone! Not diminished or tolerable, but gone. My side effects are increased sweating and loose bowels. I am impacted by them, but I would take the trade every day and twice on Sunday. :)"

For Depression "Side effects were really unpleasant but 2 months in have lessened to some degree - as an effective antidepressant it is the best I have ever taken. I have been on just about every antidepressant out over the last 20 years with nothing really working and worsening depression. I started to feel a lifting in mood almost immediately and now feel 'normal' which is an awesome feeling. My social phobia/anxiety has almost disappeared too which is an added bonus. Wish I had been prescribed this years ago!"

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "This drug gave me my life back. After unsuccessfully being treated by various doses of Escitalopram and Paroxetine for nearly half a year, my doctor prescribed Anafranil (Clomipramine is the generic name). What a difference it made! It takes longer to kick in, in my case precisely 4 weeks, but it is well worth the long wait."

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "Anafranil: Most likely the best medicine for obsessive-compulsive disorder overall. Yet each person has their own body chemistry/energy issues. Most people with OCD need about 100 to 200 mg at night. The key is to GRADUALLY go up in dose. This will give your body TIME to ADJUST to Anafranil. I am now up to 150 mg after 3 months, and I am feeling much better. Much fewer OCD thoughts. Yes, sexual side effects... as with any OCD medicine. I used to take a high dose of Paxil for 8 years and it just wore out; OCD came back. I think I will try Anafranil 200 or 225 mg, stay on it for a year, then see how I do as I try to wean down the dose to 50 or so."

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "This medicine has been a GAME CHANGER for me. I have struggled with OCD, panic, and anxiety all my life. This is the medicine that finally did the trick. My OCD is probably 95 percent better. It also has helped my panic attacks! Like other reviews state, it took about 4 weeks to work! I use GOOD RX to get it cheap too."

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Depression "I have been using Anafranil (clomipramine) for more than 10 years. It has done wonders. I only take 25mg, but that is enough for my OCD. I can take more if I want but don't want any side effects. Anafranil did what no other antidepressant could do. It is an older drug but for me it's better."

For Panic Disorder "I started on clomipramine at a dose of 50 mg daily for anxiety, panic disorder, depression, and OCD. I slowly increased the dose by 50 mg and am currently taking 150 mg at bedtime. This medication is an old one, but don’t be fooled by new doctors and new medications. This medication has been a gift from God. At first, I was afraid to start it after reading a lot of reviews about negative side effects. The only thing I’ve had is a little dry mouth. Other than that, my depression is much better, panic attacks are way down to almost nothing, and obsessive thoughts have dropped by about 90%. So overall, this medication has been the best medication I’ve ever been on. I am thankful for my older psychiatrist who had an idea that my depression and panic were coming from mostly obsessive thoughts. I am so grateful to have been put on this medication!!!"

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Depression "I've been taking this medication for major depression for 14 years now. 17 years ago, I was given big doses of steroids due to problems resulting from back surgery. Those high doses of steroids pushed me into major depression. After 3 1/2 years of trying to find a medication that worked for me, I was prescribed Anafranil. Within two days, I was seeing positive results. Within a year of taking Anafranil, I was free of depression. I've been taking Anafranil ever since - somewhat afraid to stop. There are many side effects that I often get tired of, but they pale compared to the relief I received from this medication. It is the most serotonergic of the tricyclics, and I feel it should be more widely tried for major depression."

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "This medicine saved my teenager from horrible OCD. 200mg at bedtime, dry mouth is the only side effect. Every once in a while he will have an episode, but I am able to talk him through it. He tried every med, this was the only one that worked."

For Depression "This medicine saved my life. I have now been on it for 12 years for anxiety and depression. I tried a whole slew of SSRIs over a three-year period with minimal success prior to clomipramine. A week after starting clomipramine, I started to feel better but had some major side effects (dry mouth, constipation, and later weight gain). With the SSRIs, I had no or minimal side effects. I thought maybe these side effects mean the medicine is working. The side effects continued for about 5-6 weeks, but I started to feel like my old self. I gained about 15 pounds in the first 8 months, but I didn't really care because I could live again and enjoy my family and friends. The weight all came off after about a year with exercise and eating right. Awesome!"

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "After two failed SSRIs (Lexapro and Zoloft), I'm so happy I tried Anafranil. This is the best medication, and I wish doctors would prescribe this before SSRIs. I had little to no side effects when I first started taking it. I take it at night because it does cause drowsiness. I've been taking it for 3 months but felt the effects after 2 weeks! I have little to no intrusive thoughts from my OCD. There may be some days where my anxiety is not its best, but they're manageable, and I have this medication to thank. Please give this a try! It's an old medication, but it's so worth it, especially if SSRIs are not working for you!"

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Depression "I had tried escitalopram (Scippa) and vortioxetine (Trintellix) before, practically both were ineffective. Anafranil has been a miracle for me, within a month, it reduced my severe suffering very effectively and made me much better for 90% of my time. And it was reached quickly with a very small dosage: 20 mg a day. Minor side effects occurred during the first couple of weeks, the most unpleasant was the dry mouth and reduced libido, but it bounced back within weeks."

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "So I’ve been taking Anafranil for about 8 weeks now. I started at 25 mg and now I’m at 100 mg, gradually moving up as time goes on. I didn’t have OCD until I got pregnant with my daughter and started having horrible intrusive thoughts that made me depressed. I’ve tried Zoloft, Lexapro, Paxil, and now this one. This has worked for the most part, but it hasn’t “cured” anything. I still have my days, but out of all the medication I’ve tried, this has been the best. Thankful overall for this medication. Give it a try and try to remember these kinds of meds take time to work. Sending positive energy to you all!"

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I have/had severe OCD. I have been on citalopram, Zoloft and Prozac. I was started on 150mg Anafranil, and within what seemed no time at all, my OCD disappeared. Prozac did work for OCD but not on clinical depression. I am now on 200mg. I have had no weight gain (nor did I have on SSRIs). I get a dry mouth sometimes but counteract this with an anti-dry mouth toothpaste."

For Depression "I've been taking SSRIs since I was 18 for MDD. All of them: Paroxetine, fluoxetine, sertraline, duloxetine, citalopram, escitalopram, and Wellbutrin and so on. Nothing worked. I'm under therapy for 5 years, nothing happened. I told my psychiatrist I'm willing to go under ECT, because I have had enough, I don't want to die, and she brought up clomipramine. In my country, it is extremely rarely prescribed, only for absolutely treatment-resistant major depression. She prescribed it to me. We started with 25mg, now we are at 150mg, and man... It changed my life. I could leave alprazolam, I sleep like a baby, and I feel like a normal human being. Taking a shower is no longer a task, it's a joy. It's making wonders. She saved me from ECT, and it works. I wish I knew about this medicine before I begged for ECT. Give it a try, give it 6 months, you will feel amazing. The only side effect is no libido, but I could not care less, I just want to live. Props to my doc."

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I've only been on this medicine for 3 weeks but it's already doing wonders. I still have 'the thoughts' but they don't 'take root' like they normally do. They come and go throughout the day rather than being ALL I can think about. My Dr is slowly upping my dose to 100mg, and I'm currently on 75mg and already seeing benefits. It takes a few weeks to REALLY start working so if you are on week 1 or 2 give it some time. It's been amazing at helping me fight my compulsions. It makes me really believe OCD is a MEDICAL issue. The morning is still the worst for me, when all my thoughts first hit me, but since I've started this drug, I can make it through the day so, so much easier."

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "Have had depression since a young teen and started to have OCD thoughts and compulsions at about 15. Tried several antidepressants which always helped (apart from Prozac) with my mood but never with the OCD. Psychiatrist said that Anafranil was basically my last hope, and I have been on it now for nearly 2 years, 25 mg twice a day. My obsessive thoughts are practically gone, and the anxiety around my compulsions is so mild. Never felt sick or sleepy starting on them either. Very hard to find this medication anywhere around where I live in Ireland. Always has to be ordered in advance."

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Panic Disorder "I had a break up and was suffering extreme anxiety and depression. I was not functioning at work, in life, and suffered for several months. I was getting worse and worse, not sleeping, and finally broke down and decided to take an antidepressant. After about 4 days, something changed a little. Within two weeks, my anxiety went away, and I began sleeping again as well. I weaned off of the Ativan I was taking, and this drug saved my life. I probably would have been hospitalized if I didn't go on it. Side effects: sweating (a lot), constipation, and of course, ejaculatory issues, but I could still have sex with my partner. These side effects were easy to deal with when compared to my anxiety. Saved my life!"

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I started clomipramine due to a sudden rise in panic attacks and severe OCD. (which was super strange because I have only had a couple panic attacks my entire life.) My doctor said this might help my symptoms, and I could not be any happier. It has taken away my OCD symptoms about 90%. This is insane. I can't believe I am even typing this. I have had severe, awful OCD since my childhood, and now all of my intrusive thoughts are gone. If I do have them, they are fleeting and aren't debilitating like they used to be. At the beginning, I had some side effects like extreme dizziness and lack of appetite, but now I feel better and they are lessening. I am confident that this medication saved my life."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I don't even know where to start. This medication was the breakthrough for me. I had tried so many medications over a year and a half before my doctor put me on this. I was skeptical at first, started off on a small dose, the nausea and headaches were not too terrible. The first few weeks my obsessions got worse, but once I was at 100mg, I felt a small breakthrough and a small ease of my symptoms. I had even greater results at 150mg. I'm now at 200mg, working my way up to 300mg, but honestly, this is the best I have felt in years, and for the first time, I feel like I can enjoy my life and breathe without the constant obsessions and compulsions. I'm not saying this will work for you, but do not give up. I thought I was hopeless and medications would never work for me until I finally got on this. There is light at the end of the tunnel, and you deserve to have this same feeling!"

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I have been taking Anafranil 100mg for a year now and it has changed my life. I have battled with OCD, severe anxiety, panic disorders, and intrusive thoughts since I was young. While trying different drugs, finally at the age of 40, one drug works for me and this is it. I still have the 'thoughts' but instead of obsessing over them, they pass by like moving cars. The side effects are bothersome: dealing with constipation, bloating, sweating, insomnia, twitches. I don't believe I can ever function without this medication and instead maybe lower my dosage to see if it reduces the side effects."
