"Took cipro for a UTI. On the 5th day last pill I fainted. Had to be ambulanced to nearest hospital. I ended up with ischemic colitis. Never had any problem like that before. I think the ciprofloxicen caused permanent damage to my bowel. Will never take it again. Still having issues after 7 months."

"I have had every drug under the sun for persistent UTI 's for last 4 years. I live in UK and never heard of this drug. I was on holiday and had to consult a doctor who gave me this drug. I have had no side effects and I have just finished 7 day course. Infection has gone and I am just waiting to see if this has worked long term. "

"My first bladder infection. First Drug didn't work. Gave me this ciprofloxacin next, 500mg 2x daily every 12 hr. First and second night I had night terrors. I'm allergic to other meds and the doctor told me that there was nothing else, discussed doing one pill in morning. Talked to pharmacist they suggested take second 7-8 hours after morning dose. Night terrors tamed. Finished 5 days - 2 days later my knee extremely painful. Another two days, I am now leaking urine with no control. My other knee hurts and hip and elbow. Saw knee specialist and he stated he could inject cortisone or wait - I opted for inject since my other joints were hurting and I do not want to cause more damage due to walking funny. My knee pain is almost gone. My other knee, hip, elbow all gone. My leakage, gone. All doctors scratched their head with the urine leakage, I am convinced it was the drug."

"Please be careful with this medicine if you are predisposed to mental health conditions - this made my anxiety significantly increase. I had the worst panic attack I’ve ever experienced after taking the second dosage, and was in a constant state of anxiety for days after stopping (I stopped after 3 pills and switched meds). I suffer from health anxiety and this medication worsened it. I appreciate they may work for some people but just wanted to warn those who suffer from anxiety to be aware."

"This medication ciprofloxacin ruined my life, I was prescribed it several times in 2004 and subsequently developed debilitating medical conditions and symptoms that have lasted for 16 years. This med should be taken off the market."

"Prescribed 7 day treatment for UTI, (2x/day), of Ciprofloxacin 500mg, two months after 6 week course of BCG infusions for bladder cancer. Only took 11 pills then stopped because of warnings of possible side effects. Then about two weeks after that, started to have pains in right side around right kidney area. Now this week my left side kidney area is aching. Dr. is out of town 'til Monday the 28th of Nov."

"About 6 hours after my first dose, I developed a rash on my torso, back and front. Also from my armpits to my wrists. My ears were ringing and I was drowsy. This morning my skin is red, itchy and burning as if I have a sunburn. I am NOT continuing to take the rest of it, as I'm allergic WILL NOT ever take again, and will discourage others from doing so. Have called physician to change medication."

"DANGEROUS. Prescribed this for a very painful bladder infection and was given no warnings. I suffered nearly all the side effects (nausea was the worst) but the 500mg every 12 hours only had an effect for about 6 hours, the infection would they return before it was time to take the next dose. Three days of 40degree celsius fevers, being worn down, very little sleep, uncontrollable shaking, twice each day and I was in a bad way. I'm 59 and have taken antibiotics all my life. Yearly in fact until about 25 years ago when I gave up smoking. Since then I have taken antibiotics maybe four times. The last time was about a year ago for a cat bite down to the bone. Don't recall any side effects. I went private yesterday and got the pills changed."

"I will NEVER take this ciprofloxacine garbage again!!! I was taking Ambien ( I will also never take it again as well seeing that I takes a full week to get out of your system). Anyways I was told to stop taking the Ambien when I started the Cipro. Well I started the Cipro and the very next day I was excessively drowsy and and horribly depressed!!! Even though I stopped the Ambien. I was so so sleepy I couldn't see straight! I had absolutely no appetite for two weeks , even after stopping the Cipro,. I had lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks from not being able to eat!!!! Besides being extremely sleepy my mood had went downhill pretty fast. I was nauseous, my head pounded and I was also extremely grouchy. None of this started until I started the Cipro. Never ever again. I will stick to Bactrim. "

"I have frequent bladder infections/UTIs. I have always, with the exception of a one-time prescription to Augmentin, taken Cipro. It gets rid of the infection, but I have concerns about frequent, long-term use of the drug. I have taken Cipro for THREE different illnesses, so it's very versatile, however it tends to give me a yeast infection."

"Had a bladder infection for over 2 weeks before doctors found the tablets i was on were the wrong ones for my infection, as a UTI takes many forms. You must not drink milk or have anything dairy for 2 hours before hand and 2 hours after taking the tablet. If you drink coffee or tea you must drink the same amount in water afterwards. Not had any side effects following these rules to a T. Been told that I need to drink water after every coffee or tea I have now as it's pointing to me damaging my kidneys because there is blood in the urine, i must follow this for the rest of my life if i want to keep fit. I live in the UK. The test the hospital did on my urine sample, showed I was on the wrong treatment as it wouldn't kill that particular bacteria"

"Bladder / body infection. Groin swelling and abdominal pain. Prescribed two weeks dosage which cleared symptoms. Ok for one after. Then infection came back. This time same symptoms but now spread to kidney pain also causing lower back pain Re-prescribed further dosage, this time for 4 weeks. Further checks to be done, i.e. Scan & blood test booked. Meanwhile within two weeks, all symptoms now gone again 100%. But carrying on to complete dosage for further two weeks. Final diagnosis likely cause originated from UTI -Urinary tract Infection. I consider this medicine to be suitable but deems to be only of a Mild strength. There were No side effects. And I am generally always very fit never getting any illness's apart from common colds."

"I have had a lot of bladder infections years ago from pregnancies but haven't had one in 4/5 years. The few days ago noticed the symptoms, went to the doc and he prescribed me this. I've always been prescribed amoxacilin and it's worked great. This time he prescribed this because of my history. Took my 1st pill today and within 30 mins started to feel faint, weak and outer body experience. I was at home by myself with my 8 month old baby so I immediately got in the car, drove to the local hospital which is conveniently only 5 mins away and sat in the parking lot. Started to feel better but still not 100%. Called a nurse I know who said i'll be fine but get a diff prescription. I'm going to try taking half for my 2ND dose or else i'll stop"

"I’ve had a UTI for the past two weeks now. I was first prescribed macrobid, which didn’t completely get rid of my UTI as I still have urgency and frequency to urinate. I was then prescribed cipro. Didn’t work at all. I have now been prescribed keflex. Fingers crossed."

"Cipro weakens tendons, usually the Achilles. I know because it caused my Achilles to rupture completely!!! Had surgery to repair the Achilles, spent 9 weeks in a cast, and did over a year of physical therapy because of Cipro. My foot is still not right 3 years later!!! I took it for something other than a bladder infection, but I would NOT recommend it."

"Bacterial resistance to Cipro: I took Cipro for 2 days for bladder infection until the urinalysis identified the specific bacteria causing the infection. Then was switched to another more specific drug for the bacteria I had. After my second infection a few months later I was kept on Cipro for several days but the infection stayed. Apparently the initial 2-day duration of using Cipro allowed me to develop bacterial resistance to it and Cipro is no longer an effective option for treatment for me. Lesson: Take the full dose for the full time or risk bacterial resistance?"

"Cipro worked amazing for me with any of my bladder infections. I am highly allergic to Bactrim (itchy all over my body for weeks). I have Sjogrens and Rheumatoid Arthritis. They say a lot of people with auto immune disorders have allergic reactions to Bactrim. I'm so happy my doctor prescribes Cipro when I have a bladder infections."

"I woke up with a severe pain in abdomen, thought it was a sketchy chicken I consumed, nope. That was Sunday, went to the doctor on Tuesday, prescribed Cipro, took the first one right away, following directions to a T. Next day with no sleep, but didn't have to go pee 10 times during the night, didn't have any burning sensation to begin with. I do have a fever, just took my third dose of 500mg 2x's a day for 5 days. I have a fever of 102.8, I will wait until tomorrow and see if it persists. Will change my rating if it works or harms after finishing prescription"

"I had left a earlier review when starting. I was prescribed this medication 500mg twice a day for 5 days. For the first 3 days it gave me a terrible fever, 103, 102.9, 102.8. I then did research and took a over the counter tylenol with the prescribed medication which helped with the fevers. This medication also gave me severe nausea, I was only eating two pieces of dry toast twice a day. I will not be using this medication again, hope it helps others though. Two weeks out and the infection has gotten a little better but not gone."

"Ciprofloxacin gave me the worst nightmares imaginable I had to quit after the 2nd night. Also,4 months later I have trigger finger where I can barely move my right index finger and will likely require surgery on it. I woke up unable to move my finger and it only gets worse everyday. It is hugely painful to "unlock it" and only works for about 2 hours before having to carry out the procedure again. I don't believe many younger doctors like prescribing this anymore. Baclofen is a much safer choice and should certainly be tried first. I have bad reactions to baclofen as well. Like really bad. But at least they go away after a week being off it!"

"I have had partial urinary incontinence for years - maybe 10. I had incontinence so severely last week that I urinated on myself twice. Today, a week after a 3-day treatment with Ciprofloxascin, I have complete control of my urinary sphincter. My underwear is dry for the first time in years and I have no odor! I have no idea how this might have worked, but I am thrilled!"
