"I was prescribed Cipro for a UTI when my lab test indicated I had a bacteria that was resistant to the more commonly prescribed meds. So I had a three day course, at 250mg twice a day. It worked perfectly and I had no side effects other than a little bit of drowsiness in the morning on day two. That is it. I'm done with the pills as of last week and I feel great. I am 64 and in good health, and take no other meds."

Cipro (ciprofloxacin) "I am on my 3rd day of taking ciprofloxacin and it's working great. Although I do get intense headaches but I would rather that short term rather than have the constant feeling of needing 2 go 2 the toilet."

"I had to go to the doctor yesterday with urgency, I was diagnosed with a Urinary track infection, and vaginosis all the same time, and probably herpes as well, I haven't rated this yet because I just started the treatment. I have to take them every 12 hours for 7 days. I really hope it relieves by tomorrow, this is the worst pain ever, I wouldn't desire this to anyone. It is the living hell unfortunately. I can't even walk straight because of how bad it is. I've been crying like never before. The only way I noticed it hurts less to pee for me is when you are in the shower inclined forward. Like I said hopefully tomorrow the itching and burning goes away!"

"I'm usually not one to leave a review on a medication. Especially since everyone's body may react differently. However, I needed to share my reaction to this medication ciprofloxacin. I thought that maybe I had come down with the flu. My body is hurting so bad I can barely move. Every joint hurts (including my fingers), muscles feel like they are on fire while something is stabbing them. I have had chills but no fever, Nausea and vomiting, My back hurts and my chest is tight as well. I have almost doubled my water intake so I don't believe it's lack of fluids. I would advise if you are having there's side effects to please stop and contact your Dr. I don't think I have ever felt this bad. But again, not everyone is this same"

"This drug is so toxic to anyone other than desk jockeys who walk their dog a few blocks for exercise. Cleaning houses for a living isn't an Olympic sport, doesn't even burn a ton of calories. But the tendons around my knees are destroyed from squatting to clean low places. It's that easy to destroy your body on this antibiotic. The week duration I was on it I did half a work load. But no matter, my entire body felt awful and burdened with constant pain. Even if you sit around all day, if this antibiotic makes your body hurt worse than the infection you're fighting, stop it and call your doc. I was on it because the first antibiotic didn't work. So I felt obligated to put up with the havoc my body felt. Don't. Just don't. Make your doc find the other available options. They are out there. This is a strong drug with severe and detrimental side affects ."

"Almost 3 yrs ago I was given Cipro for a maybe infection after a stent was placed in my ureter. After 3 pills I started feeling pulling in my calves. I stopped the Rx. Pulls, leg cramps, left side weakness in my arm and leg, terrible brain fog, confusion, abdominal pain, chest pain up the center, heart palpitations, suicidal thoughts, depression, itching, that some “side effects” still continue today! Almost 3 years later!!! This is a terrible DRUG FAMILY!! DO NOT TAKE ANY OF THEM!!"

"I've had a couple bladder infections. This is the first time I've taken Cipro. It did it's job and got rid of the infection and relieved my symptoms pretty quickly. But the side effects made it so I couldn't wait to be done with the medicine. It made my knees ache, gave me terrible, terrible headaches and made me extremely tired. Also, it was quite agitating not being able to take my vitamins or with milk. I am grateful to have my bladder infection gone, but these side effects were not enjoyable."

"This drug is very dangerous too many and should only be used when there are no other options. I took it several times for back to back UTI's. It caused tremors, insomnia, burning, tingling, numbness and severe muscle twitching in my legs. These symptoms lasted for months!!!!"

"Ohhhhh where do I start! Well, I had the bladder infection for 3 days prior to going to the doctors. He prescribed me with cipro and the infection stayed the same. I gained many other side affects to this antibiotic to add to the wonderful pain and discomfort I was already in... nausea, diarrhea, headaches, and sharp stomach pains. Not impressed for I paid a whopping amount of 30 dollars! Not satisfied!!"

"I'm taking Novo Cipro for a bladder/kidney infection. I have to take 1 pill, twice a day, 12 hours apart. I think it's working because when I went to the hospital and got diagnosed I could barely walk. 5 days later, I'm fully upright again. & I think I can thank the Cipro & my hot water bag for that! However, there are so many side effects. When I'm not keeling over from the pain from my bladder infection, the abdominal pains set in. I also have a terrible cramp/swelling in my left wrist & arm. The first 3-4 days on this medication, I was exhausted. I could not stay awake for the life of me. My back was hurting, my whole body felt sore. I had a fever, cold sweats at night & migraines!! Terrible migraines!!"

"End result of two C-sections and a hysterectomy is susceptibility to bladder infections after drinking too much coffee, caffeine or after sex. So I've tried many different remedies, one of which is taking Cipro. The antibiotic works to clear the infection BUT, the horrible yeast infections are unfathomable! I'd rather take more of another antibiotic than deal with the yeast infection which lingers for weeks. Now I have to get an anti fungal to clear up the itching, burning and discharge associated with taking the Cipro. Ugh!"

"I have had a horrible and painful UTI/bladder infection for 8 days now. At the beginning I was given another antibiotic for 3 days. It basicaly did nothing. I went back about 3 days ago and was given ciprofloxacin. I have been taking it for 3 days and today is my last day. I have 1 more pill to go. Today is the 1st day that I feel a lot better. I have no urgency, no pain, but a slight tenderness. Im praying and praying that this will work. I give a big thank you to ciprofloxacin."

"I have read some negative comments on here. I do have one really bad allergy to another specific drug. However, I can tolerate this drug quite well. I was admitted to hospital in 2011 with a very severe bladder infection, and I was given this IV in the arm. Over the years I have had it in tablet form from my GP and only suffered mild side effects. I think it is a good drug."

"I am always very sick physically. I have interstitial cystitis, menieres disease, MCS and more. I often get bladder infections especially because my IC medicine is put in with a catheter regularly and that makes the urethra more exposed to bacteria even though its all sanitized. Ive also been worse since i got my cystoscopy few months back. However, I've always taken Ciprox for bladder infections and it always works 100% and I have never experienced side effects of any kind. One would think since this medicine is so horrible( according to new information) that a sick person would especially get side effects but it has never happened, not even once. All the other antibiotics i tried for my bladder either didn't work or they made my stomach horrible and i got yeast infections..( note that I put one month in the time of medication because when i get infections i take it for a week and thats enough. However I've been having infections on and off for 12 years)"

"Cipro for my bladder infection has worked very well for me. I have taken it twice so far with no major side effects (only burning sensation, foggy etc). It has worked when other antibiotics didn't and cleared the infections completely."

"On holiday in Florida (from Canada) and got UTI after many years with no problems. Cipro was prescribed and although it has helped, the side effects are almost unbearable! My joints ache, I'm dizzy and nauseous, can't get to sleep and had terrible abdominal and vaginal pain. Also you can't have dairy or any vitamins 2 hours before to 4 hours after taking the meds. If this had been my family doctor instead of the doctor's PA at the walk-in clinic I'd certainly give him an earful!! I'm only half way through the course of meds (required a full 10 days) and will make note of this medicine so that I will NEVER take it again!"

"Only took one 500mg cipro tab, felt weird and drowsy, fell asleep. My gut instinct told me this drug isn't right. After reading of the devastating impact it has had on so many, I'm not taking anymore! Thank goodness for your posts. My legs do feel bit numb thats after taking one tablet! Also I felt sick briefly and hot flush in heart and head. I will try cranberry juice :) Failing that I will try another antibiotic not from this class."

"I caught a urinary tract infection after being sick from stomach flu / virus and was prescribed cipro (500 m). After one pill in the evening, I became tired, went to bed and woke up anxious, depressed, restless, with loss of balance. I've had antibiotics (amoxacillin i think) once in the past, but never had anything like this kind of reaction. Waiting for a call from my doctor for a different medicine."

"Earlier uses were no trouble and worked. The problem is that it depletes your system of magnesium and then your tendons just shred. The effect is cumulative, the more often you take it the more likely it is to hurt you. Be very careful and only take when there isn't an alternative. I have been suffering for three months from the damage it did and it didn't cure the UTI."

"Have an acute UTI which comes on very very quickly, so have to go to A & E, for intravenous anti biotics. This is the 3rd infection in 3 months but the hospital keep prescribing Ciprofloxacin 500 mgs, fine for a short while, but the infection starts again, with lots of blood in my urine. I experience dizziness, nausea and some pain. This time, along with the Cipro, I've been prescribed Naproxen. Have an appointment with a urologist soon and hoping he will prescribe something different and that works. My life is on hold at the moment and totally fed up"
