For Vitamin D Deficiency "I have fibromyalgia, and the Dr. suggested I have my blood checked, and they found that I’m pretty low on vitamin D. I was put on cholecalciferol, 2x 800-unit caps a day. Initially, I was fine, but on day 4, my stomach started to whine and churn, and I was nauseous. On day 5, I was doubled up in pain, stomach cramps, diarrhea, a banging headache, puffy, bloated! I spoke to the Dr., who said it’s not a ‘normal response.’ She then rechecked the ‘possible other side effects,’ and there they were-lots of them. I’ve stopped taking the capsules, and 3 days later, I’m still poorly-less poorly, admittedly, but maybe these things should be started gradually. Nasty experience that’s still with me, but hopefully, it’ll continue to ease in the coming days. The Dr. suggested I let my gut settle, then resume once daily, but that is not going to happen."

Cholecalciferol for Vitamin D Insufficiency "I was prescribed 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 daily to treat my insufficiency. After a 6-month treatment, my blood test showed normal levels. I took D3 with calcium, magnesium, and zinc together. My Dr. reduced D3 to 5,000 IU a day, and after 2 years, my levels are still normal."

Cholecalciferol for Vitamin D Deficiency "I reluctantly had to go to the doctors in October last year (2024). I was suffering with exhaustion, my joints ached and they were really sore and stiff. I had this awful excessive sweating and a general feeling of feeling unwell. I was prescribed HuxD3 20,000 IU for 7 weeks. I can honestly say that I felt shocking. My legs, hands, fingers, wrists, feet, and ankles all began to swell up. Not just a little bit either, and then came this awful dizziness to the point where I couldn't even leave the house for fear of falling over. I had to nip to the local shop, which is a 10-minute walk, and it took me over 20 minutes each way because I was picking my way like an OAP. When I lifted my leg/foot to take a step, I almost went flying. My eyelids began to swell too. Due to the dizziness, I even went to A&E. I asked them if it was the meds making things worse. They denied it, but I knew it was the meds causing my problems. The only good thing about this HuxD3 was my levels went from 20-12."

Cholecalciferol for Vitamin D Deficiency "D3 was prescribed as over the counter at 2k per day. I feel it would be more effective at 5k per day or more. Will check with the next blood test. Did not notice a difference. Exhaustion is a real issue with me, partly due to the need for opioids; chronic pain from a surgical accident."

For Vitamin D Deficiency "I have thyroid issues, and I am relatively obese. Obesity binds vitamin D and creates a deficiency. Catch 22 because you need vitamin D to lose weight. Blood test confirmed low levels. Starting taking calciferol oil, 1 ml daily. I noticed that my belly fat was disappearing. I feel so much better and no longer battle binge eating disorder. I suspect I was binging because my body was desperately trying to get hold of this hormone. Now I'm leveled out and know that I will be able to finally lose weight."

Cholecalciferol for Vitamin D Deficiency "Wow, that's really interesting to see the mixed reviews for vitamin D3 supplements on Drugs.com. It's pretty wild that it has an average rating of only 5.5 out of 10, with an even split between positive and negative experiences. That really highlights how individual our responses to supplements can be. I can totally understand why the reviews are so divided. Vitamin D is touted as this essential nutrient, especially for things like bone health and immune function. But as I've seen from the previous feedback people shared, it can cause some really unpleasant side effects for some people. It's a good reminder that just because a supplement is commonly recommended, it doesn't mean it's going to work the same way for everyone. Our bodies are all so unique, and we each respond differently to various vitamins, minerals, and other compounds."

For Vitamin D Deficiency "30/10/2020 prescribed 400,000 IU for ten days, 20K once weekly for six more weeks. After 10 days of the 400K severe colon pain, chronic bloating, alternating between diarrhea and constipation, so it was like the symptoms of IBS or bowel cancer. I had nerve pain, bone pain, severe back pain, chronic stress, depression and anxiety, weakness, exhaustion. The doctor denies any possible connection with vitamin D and suggested IBS. Then after a full blood count, suggested diverticulitis. And suggested I need to address my state of mind as opposed to the body. Now four months later, I am just about starting to feel slightly better."

For Vitamin D Deficiency "My doctor prescribed me 40,000 units a week. I have been taking it for just over a week and have no side effects listed; however, severe nightmares. I used to suffer from night terrors as a child (whilst taking vitamin D supplements); however, as I got older and I got a bit too busy and wasn’t taking much care of my health, the night terrors stopped, as well as the supplements. Could this just be a coincidence? Potentially; however, something to note."

Cholecalciferol for Vitamin D Deficiency "Wanted to reduce the chance of catching COVID. Been seeing multiple articles about COVID patients being all or almost all deficient in vitamin D. I am obese, have high blood pressure, and very bad lungs, 60 years old. Started having palpitations the first day but didn't make the connection. Took for the third and last time today. Still experiencing the palpitations."

For Vitamin D Deficiency "I started taking Vitamin D3 along with Omega-3 a few years ago. The combination of the two really helped my physical energy and brought my blood pressure down from 150-160 systolic, 100-110 diastolic, to 102-125 systolic and 75-85 diastolic. I also lost 75 lbs with little effort. Vitamin D is a great supplement."

For Vitamin D Insufficiency "Started taking Vitamin D at 50,000 weekly. My levels were 20 ng/ml. Felt extremely unwell and a feeling of sickness right away. Dry mouth. It was time for my second dose a week later: loss of appetite, severe GERD, extreme upper left abdomen pain, ended up in the ER. But I didn’t put the two and two together until now, this all came all of a sudden when I started taking this prescribed Vitamin D. I’m going to stop taking it and hope this feeling all goes away soon. I want to stop feeling like I’m going to die."

For Vitamin D Deficiency "So I was prescribed 40,000 units of cholecalciferol a week. I took these for 3 weeks. I thought I was going insane, having panic attacks, weird feeling in my hands and feet, like I couldn't walk, had to lie down, and had no energy. Severe dizziness, as if I was going to pass out, and heart palpitations. I went to A&E twice, but they said no, this couldn't be the vitamins. Funny how I've stopped them for 4 weeks and everything's gone, still feel funny to this day, how long until they are fully out of my system? I feel like there's no end. I would rather have my deficiency back than feel like I'm dying."

Cholecalciferol for Vitamin D Deficiency "Decara was very helpful in improving my Vit D levels. I prefer this product over Drisdol, as Decara is actually high-quality D3. (Drisdol is D2.) This has been much more effective for me. I highly recommend you ask your doctor about this product if you're trying to improve low Vitamin D levels. It worked very well for me."

Cholecalciferol "I take 5,000-15,000 mg of D3/day. I'm not very consistent. Works great in the prevention of common bugs. I rarely get a cold or the flu. By rarely, I mean less than once in 5+ years or more! Downside, my nails grow crazy fast. I often joke with others that I may be a carrier, but not a receiver."

For Vitamin D Deficiency "I was told to take vitamin D for a deficiency. Started 2500 IU per day. Realized within a week my heart was pounding and decided to check my blood pressure. Was shocked to see it was at 165/90. Usual is 120-80 to 130/80. I exercise daily, eat sensibly, and am not overweight. Am stopping vitamin D immediately, as I have read that some people react badly to it. We’re all different, so why do doctors insist that supplements cannot cause these types of issues? I have also reacted badly to K2 in the past and no longer take it."

For Vitamin D Deficiency "I have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I suffered from insomnia, night sweats, irritability, mood swings, chills, gastro issues (gas, acid reflux), heart palpitations, and fatigue. Labs showed a vitamin D deficiency. Doc started me on D3 4,000 IU daily (CVS brand of D3 50 mcg, 2,000 IU twice per day). I feel much better! I sleep through the night, and I'm not as irritable and moody each day. I feel happier and more energetic with less cravings for sugars and carbohydrates. I still feel heart palpitations, but they've decreased since quitting caffeine and getting serious about reducing stress. Diet changes include eliminating caffeine (including NSAIDs), reducing sugar, and eliminating dairy. I think the hormones in dairy contribute to my hormonal imbalance, and my body was desperately trying to compensate (the biggest indicator was adult acne disappearing and reduced growth of random facial hairs). Taking D3 for the last 2 months, along with dietary changes, has greatly improved symptoms."

For Vitamin D Deficiency "On the 3rd dose, my heart was palpitating like an engine on full throttle. It was too scary. It started at approximately 11:30 and got normal by 23:00. I was alone, I had no clue what to do, kept drinking little water at small intervals. Complete no for this one or Calcirol for vitamin D. Now I can't imagine taking any drug for D."

Stomach is really off, cramps, churning, feel sick to eat. Didn't have all this before taking them, won't be taking any more. Just want them out of my system."

Cholecalciferol "Possible side effect was several lab tests were out of range that had previous tests had been in range. I had selected this because I could not find my normal brand I had used for years without checking with PCP. PCP advised to return to the previous brand that provided standard recommended amount. I could not fairly rate this medication because use of higher than basic amount may be causing labs to go out of recommended range but the system required that I do so I am giving it an average grade. It requires 'recommend this drug' so only do so if your labs indicate you need a higher level of dose."
