Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Don't know what's worse... the cellulitis infection or side effects of Augmentin. Headache, gassiness, bloating, stomach upset from day one. Horrible vomiting on day five. Thank goodness I only have a seven-day Rx. Calling the doctor tomorrow and will beg not to take the last two days or switch to something else."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I was given Augmentin one time for an acute sinus infection, and even taking the medication right after I had eaten not only gave me bad diarrhea, but also I was throwing up with it. Our living room wasn't far from our bathroom, and I couldn't even make it to the bathroom. When I did, I was hanging my head, throwing up in the sink and sitting on the toilet with bad diarrhea. I make sure if I get a sinus infection, my doctor gives me Levaquin. Levaquin and Bactrim are the only two antibiotics that will clear up my sinus infections."

For Bacterial Infection "I took the medication for a sinusitis infection twice a day as directed by my doctor. On the morning of the fourth day, I woke up to vomiting and diarrhea. Over the next day and a half, I continued to vomit and run to the bathroom for diarrhea about once every hour or two... Pure hell. The worst part about it was the nausea... kind of like a bad trip where I was constantly very, very stressed out. It has now been six days, and the nausea has not completely gone away. It is very scary how antibiotics can affect us physically and mentally. My doctor did prescribe a medication for the nausea that I take every eight hours, and that does help a lot."

For Bacterial Infection "Have ear infection, which was not cleared by the amoxicillin, which had no side effects. But problem returned. Dr said to use the Augmentin. Chemist gave me the generic brand Alphaclav Duo. Took first (and only) tablet with lunch, and about 4 hours later the vomiting started. It must be the clavulanic acid that is the issue, as the amoxicillin was OK. Called Dr, who said to stop taking it. I just hope the vomiting stops soon, as I feel awful."

For Strep Throat "I've been taking this drug for possible strep throat. Since I started taking it, I've had extreme nausea, vomiting, dizziness, heartburn, chest pains, joint pain, pounding headache, insomnia, confusion, and loss of appetite. I don't know if I'm having problems because I'm young (16), but I don't plan on ever taking this drug again."

For Bacterial Infection "The absolute worst! After taking the first dose, within 30 min I had terrible diarrhea and stomach rumbling. Two hours later, I was vomiting and have had the worst nausea ever since. It also gave me the worst anxiety and insomnia. Needless to say, I did not bother to take the second dose."

For Sinusitis "I took this medicine after being prescribed for a persistent infection. After a quick nap, I became hot, sweaty, and jittery and began to vomit endlessly. I vomited so hard that I saw blood and had to go to the hospital. I was diagnosed with food poisoning and popped blood vessels in my stomach (even though they knew I was on the meds), given an IV and anti-nausea meds. It took me days to get back to normal, and since my infection is still persistent, I thought it was a good time to try taking the pills again. Big mistake. Woke up 2 hours later vomiting, like a nightmare. Luckily, I had some anti-nausea medicine leftover and could keep it down enough to not make a hospital visit at midnight. Horrible, horrible experience."

For Strep Throat "I vomited violently all night after taking it around 7 p.m. A month later, we thought we'd try again because the doctor didn't believe it could be from this medication. The same thing happened! Miserable!"

For Sinusitis "I couldn't even keep it down. I experienced nausea and vomiting, so my doctor changed medications. There is no way I could ever use Amox Clav. I was on it only one day, and it was one of the worst days of my life."

"One dose, one pill for a dental procured infection. I thought I wasn't going to make it through the night. Extremely awful stomach cramping and uncontrollable vomiting and diarrhea. Drenched in sweat without chills from head to toe. Struggled to breathe with a pounding headache. Woke up on the bathroom floor in the morning with a mess and no energy to move. It was as if I was poisoned."

For Bacterial Infection "Day 8 of taking this for just another sinus infection. Have had horrible, HORRIBLE side effects. My body felt extremely strange, tingly almost. Nausea has been so bad I had to take a pregnancy test to eliminate that possibility. I did vomit today for the first time in years after a whiff of cleaning products. The infection has improved, but if you have a sensitive stomach - I don't advise. I did notice improvement (on nausea) on days I consistently chugged water (emphasis on chugged) and took the dose while eating."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "This drug is awful. I have 3 days left, and I physically cannot handle it anymore. I'm intensely nauseous every day, but I never vomit. I just drool at the mouth and dry heave until it wears away. But by the time the nausea settles, it's time to take another pill! It makes going to work almost impossible. I also get unusual headaches and generally feel terrible. Unfortunately, it's a holiday, so I am unable to contact my doctor for something new. Considering risking it and quitting - never again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I feel comforted reading the feedback on this because I thought maybe I was losing my mind. I have had sinus infections for years and finally tried the antibiotic approach. I had no idea the side effects would be so awful! Stay near a toilet or wear Depends. On day one, I 'sharted' in public, then started daily taking anti-D meds, which didn't even help. Vomited twice during the week, but that was probably me being bad for drinking alcohol. Horrible headaches, fatigue, and brain fog (to the point my boss asked me if I was okay just passing the hallway) and long bouts of weird fever-sleep. The worst part is, either I got a cold virus by chance, or this hasn't worked at all... it's hard to tell, but it feels more like a cold. Awful from start to end."

For Sinusitis "Three years ago, I was prescribed Augmentin for a sinus infection. Within two days, I was having terrible stomach pains, nausea, and severe bloating. Began vomiting, stayed severely bloated, and was in constant pain. Lost 40 pounds in 2 months even with eating regularly. Was not absorbing anything I was eating. After multiple misdiagnoses and exploratory surgeries, I was diagnosed with SIBO. One month later, I developed colitis and spent 5 days inpatient in the hospital. Still cannot tolerate gluten and have lingering digestive problems three years later. Also, now have a phobia of taking antibiotics and new medications for the first time. This took a year of my life from me. I had taken it several times prior and tolerated it well, and this time, it destroyed all of the healthy bacteria in my body. I will never take this drug again or anything similar to it. If you have to, load up on probiotics and yogurt and pray."

For Sinusitis "2 years ago, I thought I had a toothache. After a visit to the dentist, he told me it was a sinus infection and to go to the nearest medical center. I did, and they prescribed me this drug. After two days, I had to call 911 from vomiting and passing out. The only thing that saved me was Claritin Extra Strength to dry me up finally. Relief was within 20 minutes from taking only 1 pill. True, true story."

For Bacterial Infection "Was prescribed amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium 2x a day for 10 days. First day, I had chills. I took acidophilus daily while taking the Rx. By the 9th day, the bacterial infection, which was some combination of dental/sinus, was not better. It was not worse. But my doctor prescribed an additional course of the drugs because she knew I could not see a dentist. It may be coincidence, but after taking tablet 21, I awoke with the most severe nausea I have experienced in 7 decades of life. I then vomited 5 times, so severely, I think I may have internal injuries - that will have to be investigated. I'm uncertain if it did not affect my circulatory system. That was four days ago. I took no more of the Rx. I feel completely disabled. (I have not vomited for any reason until this, for 10 years). It could be a coincidence, but I wouldn't take this again. Ironically, on that 10th day, the possible bacterial infection seemed to be clearing up."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "This medication, Augmentin, is absolutely horrible on me. I’ve been prescribed this twice. I’ve taken it with and without food, and both times I vomited violently to the point I was hospitalized. I became so dehydrated they couldn’t even get a urine sample by catheter. I sweated so badly my jeans and t-shirt took two days to air dry. I became so delirious from vomiting that I stripped naked in front of my mother and children, then passed out. She called the ambulance. I couldn’t handle a day's dosage either time."

For Bacterial Infection "I have taken regular amoxicillin before, but my doctor put me on this to clear up a sinus infection. BCBS covered it, and I took one dose when the prescription was filled with yogurt, milk, and chicken soup, and 2 hours later had intense diarrhea, and I vomited every 2-3 minutes from 4 PM to 9:30 PM. I thought I was literally going to die or have to have my stomach pumped or something. Made me severely dehydrated, and from all the vomiting, I had the most intense stomach pain I have ever felt in my life. Going in for a shot today and getting off this medication."

For Bacterial Infection "I have a UTI and an ear infection. My doctor prescribed amox-clav (Augmentin) 875 MG 2 per day for 10 days. The first dose caused abdominal pain and vomiting. The second dose I took with food and the same thing happened. This medication is NOT good. I refuse to take any more of this drug. If you take it, prepare to be sick and prepare to stay home. You will need quick access to a bathroom."

For Sinusitis "Had increased heart rate and shortness of breath just after a few hours of taking it, followed by severe nausea and vomiting overnight. The next day, felt extremely weak and tired with light nausea and no appetite. My stomach and lower back were sensitive to the touch and achy. I was prescribed this two separate times in a year, and both times had this reaction. Both times, the doctors stopped its use and prescribed something else."

For Sinusitis "RUN FROM THIS MED!! I was fine on it at first, but now it has caused headaches, severe diarrhea, tiredness, and vomiting. If I would have known its side effects before I was prescribed it, I would have never started taking it. I had to leave work nearly because I was so ill from it. Do not take this med. It's horrible."

For Bacterial Infection "This medicine was so bad. I gave it to my son for a sinus infection. During 6 to 7 a.m., he came to me and complained about stomach pain, and then all of a sudden, he ran to the bathroom and threw up a lot, five times. We found out about the side effects when we all woke up!! This all happened, and it was day one of the medication. Please refer another medicine."

For Strep Throat "I got strep throat for the 2nd time in a month, so they wanted to prescribe something more heavy-duty, I guess. I got prescribed 875-125 mg tablets, and I had to take them every 12 hours. After my 2nd dose, I fell asleep and woke up about 4 hours later to myself really needing to vomit. After I think 8 doses (5 days out of the 10 I was supposed to), nothing changed at all, well at least nothing changed for the better. None of my symptoms changed, I was still throwing up every few hours-sometimes it had blood in it. When I wasn't throwing up, I was continuously nauseous, I couldn't walk or really see, I couldn't eat, it was just really bad, so I stopped taking them. After I stopped, I had really bad diarrhea, but my strep symptoms went away."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "Took an 825 mg dose with a little food as recommended. I ate a small dinner 3 hours after taking the first pill. I became very nauseated 2 hours later and vomited 4 times 3 hours after that. It’s now been 24 hours since I took the medicine, and I'm still queasy. I was given it after a root canal on my tooth. I’ve not vomited in my adult life, and I’m a senior. Bad stuff for me."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bronchitis "After just 2 doses of planned 10-day 2x/day 875 mg treatment, got violently ill, literally projectile vomited on brand new carpet as I couldn't get the 10 feet to the toilet fast enough. Stopped medicine immediately but still had massive, continuous diarrhea for almost 3 weeks, lost 17 lbs in 14 days! It was so bad/went on so long the doctor actually tested me for C. diff, which was negative. Will never, ever take this again!"
