For Sinusitis "I was prescribed Augmentin 875 twice a day for a severe sinus infection and just after two pills (one day) I could see light at the end of a dark, stuffy, congested tunnel... I began feeling much better almost immediately but a side effect that almost always happens to me with antibiotics... I got a yeast infection! My doctor told me that this is common because antibiotics job is to kill bacteria, all whether good or bad... these include bacteria that naturally occur and are normal in the vaginal tract, so my doctor usually prescribes something for a yeast infection. Other than that, taken with food, I did not have any side effects and feel much better... it's amazing how quickly it works. After being miserable for days, I'm very happy!"

For Sinusitis "Horrible, horrible experience. I'm a healthy (no pre-existing conditions, exercise regularly, maintain a healthy diet) female in my mid-30s. Rarely take meds, especially antibiotics, so when I do, they usually work well. I was a little nervous to take Augmentin because the dose was so strong, but the doc was adamant because I had a very severe sinus infection. By the third dose, my whole body was reacting. No relief from the sinus congestion, horrible headache, very anxious/nervous, nightmares, night sweats, zero appetite, insomnia, blurred vision, horrible, horrible yeast infection (I have never had a yeast infection in my entire life). Called the doc hysterically crying and was told to stop taking it immediately. Stay far away!!"

For Sinusitis "This is my second time using Augmentin. Before this, it was used for an ear infection, and now for sinusitis. Symptoms cleared up almost exactly when my doctor said they would-about 2 days in each time. Symptoms have been minimal, with only minor stomach upset. Taken with probiotics several hours apart from it regularly, I managed to avoid a yeast infection."

For Strep Throat "On Tamiflu for the flu, Z-pack for strep throat, and Motrin for pain and fever. Day 2: me begging, please give me penicillin, please. My throat began to swell and was covered with infection. I went to urgent care and was given a prednisone shot along with a Rocephin shot, followed by a prescription for prednisone, Augmentin, and Diflucan. Immediately, the Augmentin kicked the hell out of the strep throat. I began spitting out the infection, the flu symptoms subsided, and all is right in the world. I had the runs, upset stomach, and a yeast infection, all of those pale in comparison to strep throat and the flu."

For Bacterial Infection "This is one of the worst experiences in my entire life. After taking Augmentin, I had diarrhea for a week, a yeast infection, dry red rashes on the palms of my hands and inner thighs, hemorrhoids, exhaustion, blurry vision, and an increased heart rate, which caused me to not be able to sleep. I WILL NEVER take Augmentin again, worst meds in the world."

For Sinusitis "I loved the antibiotic. If you take probiotics and eat yogurt, you'll be fine. If you're sensitive to antibiotics and get yeast infections easily, I recommend asking your GP for Diflucan. Take 2 pills 2 or 3 days into the antibiotic course, then on day 6 or 7."

For Sinusitis "I was prescribed Augmentin 875 mg 2 times a day for 10 days. I took it for 5 days, and it seemed to be working to clear up the sinus infection, but I had to stop taking it because it gave me the worst yeast infection I have ever had in my life. I read someone else's comments about their tongue swelling and having ulcers on it, thus, it is oral thrush or a yeast infection on the tongue. I had to take 7 days of Diflucan and eat plain yogurt to get rid of it. And I had to stop taking the Augmentin. I tried to start back taking it in halves, but the yeast infection in my mouth came back. So I had to get more plain yogurt with probiotics to get rid of it. I cannot take this medicine."

For Sinusitis "This drug was the worst. I'm still recovering. Started taking this on 12/28 for SI. I take daily probiotics and increased them since I expected some stomach upset. At first, not so bad but by Friday 12/30, the yeast infection from hell reared its ugly head. I had Diflucan on standby just in case and took it 12/31 and stopped Augmentin altogether. Nothing, and normally it's hours when I feel relief. I had to get Monistat 1 on New Year's to help fight it. Just got relief as of 1/4. Digestive still not normal. Never again. Unless my life depends on it."

For Sinusitis "Having new medication anxiety, a sensitive stomach, acid reflux, and an irrational fear of diarrhea and vomiting made me terrified of taking this medication after reading a lot of these reviews. But! The key here is food. Avoid anything that upsets your guts. Eat something right before taking the pill and eat a probiotics yogurt 2-3 hours after taking the pill. This will help with an angry tummy and also help prevent yeast infections caused by antibiotics, ladies. Don’t skip a meal and snack on crackers or the likes throughout the day. This med is bad if it is in an empty stomach. Coming from someone who has taken a lower dose of amoxicillin only and gotten the runs every time, with sticking to a strict regimen of never letting the gut be empty and eating the yogurt 2 hours after taking the pill, I’ve had no side effects and started feeling better on the 2nd day. Goodbye bacterial sinusitis."

For Strep Throat "This medication did clear up my strep throat within the first couple of days being on it. However, the side effects were horrible. I had watery diarrhea for like 3 days, I always felt nausea after taking it even with food, and I had strong stomach pains. Also, by the 4th day on it, I had a yeast infection."

For Middle Ear Infections "For my son, who got multiple ear infections, Augmentin worked well. We always increase his yogurt intake while on antibiotics, and he's had little to no trouble with this side effect. Seems to taste okay to him too. Good drug... try to be proactive about the diarrhea and/or yeast infection with probiotics and taking the med with food. My two cents..."

For Middle Ear Infections "Was prescribed a 10-day course of Augmentin for an ear infection and bronchitis, and by day three had diarrhea, a severe headache, and nausea. Started probiotics, and that helped a little. Now, after being off of it for one day, I have developed a yeast infection. The meds did help the infection, but I felt like I was going to die in the meantime. I will never take this med again."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Was prescribed the 875 mg tabs every 12 hours for an infected cyst. Right from the 1st dose, I experienced stomach upset, severe bloating, and diarrhea that burned. Within several days, I also developed a vaginal yeast infection and severe yeast rashes in both armpits. I normally have a cast iron stomach and can take normally any medication without meals and have no problems. The Augmentin caused bad side effects even with meals. Stay away from this drug, it is well known to cause stomach problems."

"Took 5 days of 625 mg twice daily course after a dental procedure. While on it, I had a severe headache, hot flushes, chills, depression, nausea, and anxiety. I didn't experience diarrhea, though. Two days after finishing the course, I got a vaginal yeast infection. The last yeast infection was 5 years ago when I was on a 3-month course of Z-Pack for acne. It cleared up my tooth infection, but I'm never having it again. Not worth the side effects."

"I'm only on my 3rd dose, but this is the first day in over a month that I have not had severe gastrointestinal pain, constipation, diarrhea, etc. I actually feel pretty good, but weak. First med was Cipro, and that was a nightmare even though I've taken it before with no problems. Had to stop halfway through the 10 days. I was switched to Levofloxacin (Levoquin), and by the 3rd day of 5, I was not feeling human at all. I was just deathly ill, and pain increased. Yesterday I was given Augmentin 500 twice daily for 10 days. Took the first pill last night, 2nd this morning. I feel human again so far! Time will tell. I'm just hoping I get none of the bad side effects. Already treated a yeast infection earlier this week from the other meds."

For Middle Ear Infections "Never again. Actually, I have taken this before, no problems. This time, a different story! Not sure why they gave me such a high dose. The doctor told me to wait a few days before starting to see if the ear pain cleared, as my ear really wasn’t inflamed. I did just that, though, but then figured I would just take it. I got 5 doses in me before the stomach pain started. Now I also have weird tingling and leg pains. So I dumped them! Hopefully, my side effects resolve as quickly as they came. I also am starting to get a yeast infection!"

For Middle Ear Infections "I had a swollen gland under my palate due to an ear infection and was given a 7-day prescription for this drug. I ended up stopping with 2 days to go. I have severe itching (feels like bugs crawling on me), yeast infections including in my mouth, severe diarrhea, nausea, heartburn, lethargy, and no appetite. It has been 3 full days since I took this vile drug, and I am still losing weight. I am now down 10 lbs, and it shows no signs of slowing down."
