For Bacterial Infection "After taking other antibiotics a couple of times over the last 12 months for sinus infections, I finally had a deep sinus infection which seeped through the top jaw and around a tooth. It had apparently been building up over time. I had just started Augmentin 875/125 when the periodontist found this. Before that I had tried completing 3 courses and all infection pain in my sinus, jaw, neck, and shoulder have gone. After 12 months of trying physio, massage, nasal sprays, washes, and antihistamines, as well as the odd antibiotic, Augmentin has been my savior. It began to clear everything I didn’t even know was part of the infection within 3 days and the continued improvement has been unbelievable and surprising. No side effects at all, if I take it at the start of a meal, although I have felt pretty tired. Brilliant drug!"

For Bacterial Infection "Medicine worked great for double infections, a couple of days I could feel a difference. HOWEVER, side effects were terrible, still around after completing a 10-day treatment. Even with daily probiotics and yogurt, the digestive/intestinal issues were bad, constant trips to the bathroom, eating would immediately create 'stomach talk', could not leave the house, had to cancel a family trip as travel would have been difficult. I felt lethargic, weak, had blurry vision, and was exhausted, with all of this, it really affected my mentality. FYI: On the 2nd day when side effects began, I spoke with my pharmacist, who encouraged me to stay on it if I could endure these 'common' side effects, none being allergic. It has worked but still healing from side effects."

For Sinusitis "I was recently prescribed Augmentin 875 mg two times a day for 10 days for a very severe upper respiratory/sinus infection. On day one, I had pain in my head, some sweating/chills, lethargy, and stomach upset. Day two, I had bad diarrhea, anxiety, nervousness/agitation, sweating/chills, and some tiredness. Day three, I had all of the above, as well as developing one hive on my right arm after my evening dose. The medication helps my sinus infection, but the side effects are troubling. I do not feel good for at least two or three hours after taking this medication."

For Bacterial Infection "This is one of the worst experiences in my entire life. After taking Augmentin, I had diarrhea for a week, a yeast infection, dry red rashes on the palms of my hands and inner thighs, hemorrhoids, exhaustion, blurry vision, and an increased heart rate, which caused me to not be able to sleep. I WILL NEVER take Augmentin again, worst meds in the world."

For Kidney Infections "So... I was so scared to take these tablets after reading the reviews. I have Crohn's disease and a very sensitive stomach, but I had a water infection for 3 weeks, which then traveled to my kidneys and made my pancreas swell, so I was prescribed these. First day I took them, I started to feel nausea. I am now on day 5 of these, and the side effects aren't as bad as what I thought. I have a bit of a fuzzy head and feeling nausea and just extremely tired. I have had no sickness or diarrhea. I think the key to this is I eat before I take the tablets, and I make sure to eat some yogurt about an hour after taking them, and I've had no problem, and that's coming from a girl who has a very sensitive stomach normally."

For Sinusitis "Was diagnosed with a sinus infection. I have not used antibiotics in years. Put me on Augmentin. Took the fourth dose this morning, so day three. I feel horrible! So tired, foggy, just want to sleep, my heart feels a little racey, bad gas, diarrhea yesterday, bad cramping. Taking with food and probiotics. I am trying to give it a chance, but I can't seem to do anything but sit here. I almost felt better before starting it."

For Bacterial Infection "Strange reactions. I am allergic to sulfa drugs - not to be confused with sulfur. There are no sulfa in Augmentin. I am taking 825/125, 1 every 12 hours. I've noticed the following - none of which are currently severe. (Lots of torso itching - my back, sides, stomach, breasts. Bowel movements are slow and daily, but it feels like my muscles don't work as well as they should. A little TMI, but I experienced some vaginal itching that caused discomfort while urinating and wiping (yeast infection?). Not serious yet, also could have been caused by PMS. Other than these, I have just been exhausted, no appetite, a bit of insomnia once every couple of days. I understand my body is fighting things off. But I wish I had known about the symptoms beforehand so I could have been prepared to hibernate for 2 weeks."

For Skin and Structure Infection "Took Augmentin for a bacterial infection in my foot. This is rough stuff. During the 10-day cycle, although it cleared up the infection in my foot, I had begun to develop headaches, felt weak and tired, sleeplessness, and some stomach discomfort. It works well if you can endure all the side effects. Would not recommend if other options are available."

For Sinusitis "Day 5, and my sinus congestion is as bad, if not worse. Had a fever on day 2, chronic headache despite drinking a gallon of water a day. Ruptured my eardrum day 2 blowing my nose after using the neti pot my doctor insisted I try (never again!). So now I’m not supposed to blow my nose. Every other antibiotic I’ve been on started clearing up my symptoms within 2 days. As a teacher, it’s next to impossible to be effective while sick like this. I have sinus and ear pain and tooth pain to contend with on top of lethargy and chronic headache. So for me, Augmentin has been ineffective. Never again."

For Bacterial Infection "This has been a terrible experience. Given 875 mg for 7 days for diverticulitis. Side effects are extremely tired, anxiety, complete loss of appetite, bloating, and full of gas, extreme weakness in legs, feel like passing out. Worse than the problem it was for. One more day left and feel like passing on it. Hopefully, I will bounce back after it is out of the system. Unless you can lay around and not have to function, I would not take. Could barely take a shower, was so tired. In my opinion, bad stuff."

For Aspiration Pneumonia "Augmentin caused severe neurological issues with my mother, where she exhibited stroke symptoms without having one and was very lethargic and lacked motor function. My father became very nauseous with severe headaches. I don't know why this drug is pushed on elderly people and want to tell everyone to beware of it!"

For Bacterial Infection "Took first Augmentin dose at 10 PM, about 4 hours after dinner. Threw up violently every 2 hours from 1 AM through the night. Didn’t take the next dose this morning and was super nauseous, tired, and not hungry all day. Going to request a different drug. To be fair, I did not take it with food at the exact same time and did not know to take probiotics a couple of hours later until after reading everyone’s advice."

For Sinusitis "So I was prescribed Augmentin on Friday to treat really bad sinuses, and the doctor told me not to start it until what would’ve been today, but when I went to the ER that night, they said that I should start Augmentin. I took my first dose, I didn’t see any differences, although I already had a fever and my heart rate was pretty high because I was fighting off an infection. My second dose kept me up all night long. My third dose made me sleepy and lethargic all yesterday. My fourth dose, I wasn’t feeling better or worse, but at one random point, I checked my heart rate, and it was 172, and my fiancé said that wasn’t right, and something about the app that I use was wrong. I didn’t feel it. So all weekend long, I had a horrible cough, and every time I would cough, my back would seize up, and I would be in excruciating pain. I attribute this to being on my couch, however, I do not believe that’s the case. My diarrhea has been pretty substantial."

"By the time I was prescribed this medication, I was at the tail end of a two-week-old. The doctor saw some spots on my throat and prescribed it. The medication has made me more miserable than the actual disease. I can't keep any food in my stomach, and I have constant headaches as well as lingering nausea. Constantly sleepy and tired. It's been four days at this time, and I think I will have to stop early. My doctor prescribed 875 mg two times a day for 10 days."

"Sadly, I have not had a good experience with this medication. I was prescribed this after 8 days of regular Amoxicillin was ineffective against an ear infection that was caused by an eardrum rupture due to flying. Today is the 6th day of this medicine, and I finally gave up and called the doctor. I can no longer handle the nausea, diarrhea, exhaustion, heart palpitations, itching, and malaise. Luckily, I was told to stop the medication and will be seen by my doctor on Wednesday. This may be a good drug for some people, but as for me."

For Middle Ear Infections "I am a 42-year-old man. After 2 days on Augmentin, my ears felt better, but I couldn’t sleep. After 4 days, I felt foggy-headed, lethargic, dizzy, and overall unwell, and the ear pain returned. On the 10th day, I felt extremely fatigued, sad, broke out on my face, and ringing in my ears is terrible. The Z-Pak did not work either."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I don't want to scare anyone away from taking this drug, but I have to be honest - Augmentin really sucked. I was prescribed it for a stubborn UTI after a 3-day course of Bactrim didn't do the job. I didn't notice many side effects (other than tiredness) at first, but by day 2, this drug had me feeling noticeably 'off', anxious, and irritable. This only worsened, and by day 4, I was feeling a constant cloud of stress and tension throughout my body that wouldn't go away. I felt extremely apathetic towards everyone around me, yet I also felt indescribably terrified that I was losing my sense of self because I felt so 'different' cognitively. The way I spoke, the way I typed, the way I thought through things - it changed, and being aware of that made it even scarier. It got so bad on day 4 that I got in a massive fight with my partner, which is completely out of character for me. It seems to have taken care of the UTI, but dear God, I never want to be on this antibiotic again."

For Middle Ear Infections "I had a swollen gland under my palate due to an ear infection and was given a 7-day prescription for this drug. I ended up stopping with 2 days to go. I have severe itching (feels like bugs crawling on me), yeast infections including in my mouth, severe diarrhea, nausea, heartburn, lethargy, and no appetite. It has been 3 full days since I took this vile drug, and I am still losing weight. I am now down 10 lbs, and it shows no signs of slowing down."
