Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole "I had bad reflux, night nausea, and heartburn for nearly 7 months before being diagnosed with an endoscopy. Only on Day 3 of therapy (Amoxicillin, Clarithromycin, and Omeprazole). Side effects: mild nausea, no strange taste, but I do get thirsty and I have had quite bad stomach pain (bloating, gas, etc.) and back pain. I was also very scared to take these meds after reading all the comments, but so far so good. The most annoying thing is having to take so many meds at one time! Hoping I have no new side effects. I do take a probiotic and anti-nausea pills twice per day with the antibiotics, and I do take the antibiotics with food. I really hope that after the 14 days I am cured, as I don't want to have to do this again!"

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole "I am so happy I found this site!!! I am on day 10 of the HPAC (amoxicillin/clarithromycin/lansoprazole). The first few days were great. Felt better than I have in the last year. But on day 8, I started to feel ill. Terrible, terrible nausea, stomach ache, headache, loss of energy, can’t sleep, hate food, metallic taste... Thought of stopping treatment, but after reading other posts, I will take some probiotics, yogurt, Gravol, and hope it gets me through the next 4 days. I found if you need quick relief from the stomach pain and nausea for an hour, Gaviscon will help. Hope this works. Could not go through another course of treatment."

"My experience is weird, I ate something spicy over two months ago and had a burning sensation all night and aches. Went to docs, had ECG and bloods, ECG and bloods were perfect. But I had this pylori thing. He prescribed antibiotics, amoxicillin and Nexium, and also another one that has a strange taste. Anyway, can’t remember it, but I remember taking 4 tablets twice a day. Then he said to continue with the Nexium for 2 weeks after. That was my first treatment, but after 7 days of taking tablets, I still felt bloated, cramps, burping, throat burning, reflux style, and my stomach feels sore to touch, like inflammation beneath the skin. To cut a long story short, I went for the breath test, positive still, so a new doctor changed the amoxicillin to Flagyl and said if this didn’t get rid of it, I would have to have a round of very strong antibiotics. I just can’t stand the pains when on meds and the not knowing, 2 months of feeling rotten, is it just me? Anyone experience all this as well?"

"My doctor prescribed lansoprazole, amoxicillin, and clarithromycin to treat the Helicobacter pylori infection. On the 9th day, I started to have rashes on my arms and back, and it has now spread throughout my torso and legs. I am taking Benadryl to control the effect of the rashes (moderate itchiness). Does anyone have the same experience of what I am going through? I am now on day 10 of 14."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole "I was tested for the dreaded H. pylori, and the doc said I had a high amount in my gut. I was prescribed the triple therapy, all prescribed separately, so the cost was generic - $22 with insurance. I dreaded starting this regimen from all the horrific reviews - but I'm on day 2, and so far so good. I do have some explosive diarrhea at times, churning stomach, mild headache, and very tired. I'm hoping the rest of the 12 days will go this smoothly. I'm on holiday break, so I'm taking the time off - I don't see how someone could work a stressful or manual labor job on these drugs. I did take all the advice from this forum - I am taking two Align probiotics a day with several glasses of kefir and yogurt and eating small veggie meals and crackers - nothing acid, spicy, or carb-heavy."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole "Day 4, and it's starting to work. I tested positive for H. Pylori after noticing bloating and pain after a trip to China in 2009. I was given Prevpac in 2009 but never ended up taking it due to a separate illness (it was a bad year). I ended up ignoring H. Pylori until recently, due to it getting so bad I have begun staying bedridden on weekends and feeling nauseous all the time. Energy has been zapped, as well as chest pains and other weird sensations. Went back to the doctor and got the script again. Started Friday - the first few days were a little rough with nausea (always take with food!), but it's getting better. I feel much more energy, and the constant stomach pain has minimized dramatically. Fingers crossed this is the solution."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole "I am on day 5 of taking this medication. I was feeling fine, but now I am experiencing severe lower back pain. It seems to come and go. I am going to call my doctor to see if this is a common side effect and if it means something bad is happening due to the meds. Whatever the doctor says, I will report back here."

"I'm on my day 4. It's making me feel dizzy, tired, and fatigued. This is bad enough, but the worst is that it tastes bitter and wakes me up a few times because of that. I drink water, but the bitter taste does not go away."

"Was diagnosed with H. pylori and given amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and omeprazole to take for 14 days. First day, my only side effect was extreme fatigue. Second day, no side effect except a headache. By the 5th day, I started to experience diarrhea. That was my only side effect and the bitter taste in my mouth off and on for the rest of my treatment. I did do as others mentioned and took a probiotic between doses. Make sure you remember to throw away your toothbrushes and buy new ones after treatment! All in all, treatment wasn't bad. Don't let other people's experiences scare you."

"I was diagnosed with H. pylori after visiting the laboratory because of a mild stomach upset with heartburn. I am on my third day of treatment with the 14-day triple antibiotics taken twice a day. The only side effects I've experienced so far are a bloated stomach, a bitter taste in the mouth, and reduced appetite. I initially thought, 'I am not going to bother, I don't have any symptoms. Why should I take so many pills?' On second thought, I decided to start the dose after reading about the outcomes of delayed treatment. Cancer and ulcers? "I am on day 9 of the treatment. For the first 7 days, I had a strong stomachache, waking up in the middle of the night due to the pain, tiredness, nausea. Day 8, it got worse, I even vomited yesterday, mouth taste is stronger, dizziness, very tired... IMPORTANT: I would like to share with you that I got my treatment from a very senior, experienced gastro doctor in Montreal, and he was very clear. He told me, "It will get worse during treatment until the end of the 14 days! Be patient."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole "I'm on day 8. No stomach issues except mild cramping every so often, maybe once a day for a couple of minutes. The worst part for me is the disgusting taste, and like others, it is waking me up, it's so nasty. Also, starting yesterday, it feels like my tongue is on fire. I pray that after I complete the Prevpac, I never have to do it again. I am miserable."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole "On Day 6 of the 14-day treatment. The side effects I've experienced haven't been too bad: the bad taste in my mouth (usually at night and first thing in the morning), hard time staying asleep (insomnia), yellow stools, and some left-side aches, which I think may have to do with constipation. I'm sure I would be worse if I didn't take a probiotic with every dose of these meds."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole "I am not fond of meds, so I wasted 3 months doing Dr. Google on natural approaches. It didn't work, as I continue having stomach pain, reflux, bloating, etc. Out of desperation, I went to the doctor, and he confirmed I had HP. I'm on day 6 and feel miserable with the side effects: insomnia, high pulse rate, stress, etc. However, my gut seems to be better. I can eat better. I will take the probiotics, they seem to help. Good luck."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole "Don't be scared of Prevpac, the first couple of days are kind of rough due to initially getting rid of a large amount of H. pylori, but you immediately start feeling better when taking it with a probiotic. Prevpac is candy compared to some of the other fluoroquinolones like Cipro or levofloxacin. Trust me, you do not want them. I'm on day 13 or 14, and I feel like a million dollars."

"Wow. I actually don’t know if I can go through with it - someone help. I am on day 2. And I can’t bring myself to shove the second dose of tablets down me. I have had constant retching and nausea - not even vomiting food - but hunched over the toilet puking nothing for hours. My heartbeat has increased and yes the taste, etc., but the worst thing for me is the nausea. I can’t stop retching. I can’t lie down or speak. Everything makes me sick. I am on amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and ranitidine instead of omeprazole/lansoprazole."

"I am taking 1000 mg of amoxicillin 2x a day, and 500 mg of clarithromycin 2x a day, and Pepto-Bismol 3x a day. I have had the really yucky taste in my mouth, but can deal with that. I do feel tired a bit more than usual. Do have some bloating off and on. Sometimes I have heartburn, but the symptoms of the H. pylori seem better. My appetite seems better. I am on my 10th day, and now have very severe diarrhea. I didn't think I was ever going to stop going. I'm hoping I don't start having this for the next 4 days as I tend to dehydrate easily. Drinking lots of water as it's suggested not to drink things like Gatorade. This is the second time I am on meds for the H. pylori as the first time I had a severe reaction to the other meds I was given and had to have blood work to be sure my kidneys and liver were not damaged. If I can just get through the next few days, I will be happy and pray this time these meds rid me of the H. pylori."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole "I am on my 5th day of the 14-day treatment and am beginning to feel better. I read the effects of this drug and was very apprehensive about taking it. However, I am pleased to report that my side effects are minimal. They include slightly bad taste, slight nausea, and constipation. I'll report back upon the conclusion of my treatment."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole "Been prescribed this for the second time. (First time Metronidazole, Lansoprazole, and amoxicillin with severe side effects, so I had to stop taking it, including nausea 97% of the time, abdominal cramps, loss of appetite). This is a 7-day treatment. Just finished day 1 of the medication. Took my first dose this morning, had no side effects for 4 hours. I went back to sleep and woke up with a STRONG metallic taste in my mouth that I couldn't flush out. Taken my second dose after dinner and now suffering from upper back pain on my left side. Not sure if it's a side effect from the medication. Also, my guts are moving a lot more as if there's wind trapped inside. These are side effects I can handle for 7 days, hoping I don't get severe nausea."

"I'm on day 3 of these medicines. The first 2 days, my energy levels were very high, and clarity in my whole body seemed to be back after months of feeling crappy. H. pylori test was positive, so as stated above, I'm taking this medicine. SIDE EFFECTS: On day 3, I took the medicine around 6 AM and took a nap at 9 AM. I woke up with a taste of medicine in my mouth (the taste where your first attempt to swallow a pill and it doesn't work, so you get that nasty pill taste). I think this has something to do with falling asleep, like my body isn't in awake mode, so it pumps the medicine in a sleep cycle style. I'm just assuming here, but besides the nasty taste, no other side effects at the moment. Eating a banana seemed to help with the taste."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole "I am on day 3 out of 14, and I am so miserable. I don't want to continue it, but I have to :'( I pass really stinky gas, horrible diarrhea, nausea, feeling tired most of the time, but worst of all is the weird taste in my mouth. Oh God, when I wake up to it... Probably the reason why I feel so nauseated. Drinking a lot of water, eating candy (tiny M&Ms that come in bottles. For some reason, it helped me... weird, I know), and Listerine PocketPaks all help me with the disgusting, nasty taste so far. I hope it's worth it. I give it a five because of the side effects, but the treatment better be a 10... I sure hope it's worth it :'((("

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole "I will take this medicine the rest of my life if it means no more bacteria. I know that's an exaggeration. I have had diarrhea every day, which is burning my skin around my anus. I can live with anything as long as I'm on the right path to recovery. The diarrhea occurs all day long, without much time to get to the bathroom. But I expect many bowel movements since I'm ridding myself of a digestive bacteria. I highly recommend this medicine pack, with positive thoughts of 100% recovery in my near future."
