Prevpac (amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole) "I was a little nervous about taking this after reading some horror stories online. The first day I had some burning in my stomach and nausea but then I started taking a probiotic an hour before the am and pm antibiotics and that helped amazingly well. The only side effect I suffered for the 2 weeks was a bad taste in my mouth(a little like metal). The prevpac worked for me. No more stomach issues. I just recommend taking a probiotic. It really helped!"

"I am on both clarithromycin and amoxicillin for 14 days for H pylori. I am almost half way through. I had a horrible taste in my mouth every morning waking up and it would last to about lunch time. The taste to me is like when a pill dissolves on your tongue before you can swallow it quick enough. Mouth wash doesn’t help, brushing doesn’t help, its in your saliva. The meds can block zinc absorption I read so I started taking zinc the fourth day. Still woke up with the taste the next morning. Last night, the fifth night I took two 50mg zinc. Taste was much better this morning and gone pretty soon after waking up. You don’t want to take the zinc until at least two hours after the antibiotics I read to avoid affecting the effectiveness of the antibiotics. Oh, I also kept an applesauce pouch next to my bed so when I woke up in the night I could get the taste out of my mouth and go back to sleep. Good luck"

Prevpac (amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole) "For the first week I was in excruciating pain: nausea, severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, sweating, insomnia, confusion, extreme exhaustion and fatigue, battery acid taste in my mouth, etc. I reached out to my doctor and pharmacist who offered absolutely no help. Through research I found that taking probiotics/yogurt helps with EVERYTHING, stay as hydradated as you can. I ate a lot of Ramen noodles to compensate for actual food/water since my appetite was non-existant. I didn't think I was going to be able to finish the treatment. If I test positive again, I'm going with natural remedies."

Prevpac (amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole) "I am so happy I found this site!!! I am on day 10 of the hpac (amoxicillin/clarithromycin/lansoprazole). The first few days were great. Felt better than I have in the last year. But day 8 I started to feel ill. Terrible terrible nausea, stomach ache, headache, loss of energy, can’t sleep, hate food, metallic taste... Thought of stopping treatment but after reading other posts will take some probiotics, yogurt, gravoll and hope it gets me through the next 4 days. I found if you need a quick relief from the stomach pain and nausea for an hour, Gaviscon will help. Hope this works. Could not go through another course of treatment."

"I was diagnosed with H Pylori after visiting the laboratory because of a mild stomach upset with heartburn. I am on my third day of treatment with the 14-day triple antibiotics taken twice a day. The only side effects I've experienced so far are a bloated stomach, a bitter taste in the mouth, and reduced appetite. I initially thought, I am not going to bother I don't have any symptoms, why should I take so many pills?" On second thought, I decided to start the dose after reading about the outcomes of delayed treatment. Cancer and ulcers? Better take the medication and get it over with."

"I'm on my day 4. It's making me feel dizzy, tired and fatigue. This is bad enough but the worst is that it tastes bitter and waking me up a few time because of that. I drink water but the bitter taste does not go away."

Prevpac (amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole) "Hello everyone - I was tested for the dreaded Pylori and the doc said I had a high amount in my gut. I was prescribed the triple therapy all prescribed separately so the cost was generic - $22 with insurance. I dreaded starting this regime from all the horrific reviews - but I'm on day 2 and so far so good. I do have some explosive diarrhea times, churning stomach, mild headache and very tired. I'm hoping the rest of the 12 days will go this smoothly. I'm on holiday break so I'm taking the time off - I don't see how someone could work a stressful or manual labor job on these drugs. I did take all the advice from this forum - I am taking two Align probiotics a day with several glasses of kefir and yogurt and eating small veggie meals and crackers - nothing acid or spicey or carb heavy."

Prevpac (amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole) "I have had ulcers, stomach pain and digestive issues for 6 years. Doctors were no help always prescribing PPI's or H2 Blockers. Emergency Doc gave me Prevpac. I have experienced minimal side effects. I had diarrhea once so far. I'm on day 9 and I have been taking a 50 billion probiotic at lunch and a 20 billion probiotic at bedtime. My 50 billion probiotic has to be refrigerated. Overall I am feeling pretty good. No stomach pain and my bowel movements are normal for the first time in my life. Even though I hate antibiotics this on seems to be working well. I will however wean myself off the Previcid so avoid rebound acid. Oh and all meds affect me, but this one is ok. Anything is better that what I have had to deal with over the years."

Prevpac (amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole) "I had bad reflux, night nausea and heartburn for nearly 7 months before being diagnosed with an endoscopy. Only on Day 3 of therapy (Amoxicillin, Clarithromycin, and Omeprazole). Side Effects : Mild nausea, no strange taste, but I do get thirsty and I have had quite bad stomach pain (bloating, gas etc) and back pain. I was also very scared to take these meds after reading all the comments but so far so good. Most annoying thing is having to take so many meds at one time! Hoping I have no new side effects. I do take a probiotic and anti nausea pills twice per day with the antibiotics and I do take the antibiotics with food. I really hope that after the 14 days I am cured as I don't want to have to do this again!"

"Was diagnosed with H pylori and given amoxicillin, clarithromycin and omeprazole to take for 14 days. First day my only side effect was extreme fatigue. Second day no side effect expect a headache. By the 5th day I started to experience diarrhea. That was my only side effect and the bitter taste in my mouth off and on for the rest of my treatment. I did do as others mentioned and took a probiotic between doses. Make sure you remember to throw away your tooth brushes and buy new ones after treatment! All in all treatment wasn't bad. Don't let other people's experiences scare you."

"My experience is weird, I ate something spicy over two months ago and had a burning sensation all night and aches went to docs has ECG and bloods, ECG and bloods were perfect. But I had this pylori thing. he prescribed antibiotics amoxicillin and nexium and also another one that has a strange taste anyway can’t remember it but remember taking 4 tablets twice a day then he said continue with the nexium for 2 weeks after. That was my first treatment but after 7 days of taking tablets I still felt bloated cramps burping throat burning reflux style and stomach feels sore to touch like an inflammation beneath the skin. To cut a long story short I went for the breath test positive still so new doctor changed the amoxicillin to flagyl and said if this didn’t get rid of it would have to have a round of very strong antibiotics I just can’t stand the pains when on meds and the not knowing 2 months of feeling rotten is it just me? Anyone experience all this as well?"

Prevpac (amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole) "Day 4 and it's starting to work. I tested positive for H Pylori after noticing bloating and pain after a trip to China in 2009. I was given Prevpac in 2009 but never ended up taking it due to a separate illness (it was a bad year). Ended up ignoring H Pylori until recently due to it getting so bad I have begun staying bedridden on weekends and feeling nauseous all the time. Energy has been zapped as well as chest pains and other weird sensations. Went back to the doctor and got the script again. Started Friday - the first few days were a little rough with nausea (always take with food!) but it's getting better. I feel much more energy and the constant stomach pain has minimized dramatically. Fingers crossed this is the solution."

"I am taking 1000 mg of Amoxicillin 2 X a day, and 500 mg of Clarithromycin 2 X a day, and Pepto Bismol 3 X a day. I have had the really yucky taste in my mouth but can deal with that. I do feel tired a bit more than usual. Do have some bloating off and on. Sometime have heart burn, but the symptoms of the H. Pylori seem better. My appetite seems better. I am on my 10th day, and now have very severe diarrhea. I didn't think I was ever going to stop going. I'm hoping I don't start having this for the next 4 days as I tend to dehydrate easily. Drinking lots of water as its suggested not to drink things like gater aid. This is the second time I am on meds for the H. Pylori as the first time I had severe reaction to the other meds I was given and had to have blood work to be sure my kidneys and liver were not damaged. If I can just get through the next few days I will be happy and pray this time these meds rid me of the H. Pylori."

"Wow. I actually don’t know if I can go through with it - someone help. I am on day 2. And I can’t bring myself to shove the second dose of tablets down me. I have had constant retching and nausea - not even vomiting food- but hunched over the toilet puking nothing for hours. My heartbeat has increased and yes the taste etc but the worst thing for me is the nausea. I can’t stop retching. I can’t lie down or speak. Everything makes me sick. I am on amoxicillin Clarithromycin and ranitidine instead of Omeprazole/lanseprozale."

Prevpac (amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole) "I am on day 3 out of 14 and I am sooo miserable. I don't want to continue it, but I have too :'( . I pass really stinky gas, horrible diarrhea, nausea, feeling tired most of the time, but worse of all is the weird taste in my mouth. Oh god, when I wake up to it... Probably the reason why I feel so nauseated. Drinking a lot of water, eating CANDY (tiny m&m that comes in bottles. For some reason, it helped me..weird, I know.), and listerine pocketpaks all help me with the disgusting nasty taste so far. I hope it's worth it. I give it a five because of the side effects but the treatment better be a 10..I sure hope it's worth it :'((("

Prevpac (amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole) "I'm on day 8.. No stomach issues except mild cramping every so often, maybe once a day for a couple of minutes. The worst part for me is the disgusting taste and like others it is waking me up its so nasty. Also starting yesterday it feels like my tongue is on fire. I pray that after I complete the Prevpac I never have to do it again. I am miserable."

Prevpac (amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole) "Been prescribed this for the second time. (First time Metronidazole, Lansoprazole and amoxicillin with severe side effects so I had to stop taking it, including nausea 97% of the time, abdominal cramps, loss of appetite). This is a 7 day treatment. Just finished day 1 of the medication. Took my first dose this morning, had no side effects for 4 hours. I went back to sleep and woke up with a STRONG metallic taste in my mouth that I couldn't flush out. Taken my second dose after dinner and now suffering from upper back pain on my left side. Not sure if it's a side effect from the medication. Also my guts are moving a lot more as if there's wind trapped inside. These are side effects I can handle for 7 days, hoping I don't get severe nausea"

Prevpac (amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole) "On Day 6 of the 14 day treatment. The side effects I've experienced haven't been too bad: the bad taste in your mouth (usually at night and first thing in the morning), hard time staying asleep (insomnia), yellow stools, and some left side aches which I think may have to do with constipation. I'm sure I would be worse if I didn't take a probiotic with every dose of these meds."

Prevpac (amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole) "I am not fond of meds, so I wasted 3 months doing Dr Google on natural approaches. It didn't work, as I continue having stomach pain, reflux, bloated, etc. On desperation I went to the doctor and he confirmed I had HP. I'm on day 6, and feel miserable with the side effects. Insomnia, high pulse rate, stress,etc. However my gut seems to be better. Can eat better. I will take the probiotics, seems to help. Good luck"

Prevpac (amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole) "I had acute gastritis and went to ER to get iv fluids. While there, they ran a test for H. Pylori and it was positive. My only symptoms prior to the ER visit was frequent heartburn. I was given RX for biaxin, amoxicillin, and omeprazole for 14 days. I got online and was horrified of the reviews. I delayed starting my meds. The first three days were hell on earth. Nausea, fatigue, anxiety. I learned very quickly to EAT with each dose. I had the metallic taste up until day 10 and then it went away. I'm wrapping up day 12, and while the treatment was tough in the beginning, it is doable. My GI is going to do an EGD in 60 days. Was also told to continue omeprazole x 2 months to heal ulcers and combat rebound reflux. Feeling better!"

"Day 2 of h pylori kit. At first I thought something must be wrong with the drugs because they made my symptoms worse. I felt really terrible after day 1 But after reading reviews I feel I'm not alone and will get through the treatment My symptoms are. Bloating, passing gas, nausea, metallic after taste, fatigue, crumps and excruciating pain in my tummy."

"Be your own advocate. I have had anemia which leaves me fatigued for a very long time. I have suffered from severe bloating, pain, belching, and flatulence. I made an appointment a few weeks ago because I was having difficulty breathing and had severe bloating....I thought it was the arthritis. The bloodwork showed that my iron levels were 6 micrograms per deciliter. Normal levels for women range from 26 - 170. She has been prescribing me iron supplements for three years. On this particular visit, she sent me for some bloodwork and it came back positive for Helicobacter. I was so glad to have a name that had caused me so much pain over the years. Since starting the medication, I have had pretty much all the side effects including: metallic taste in mouth, severe bloating and pain, vivid dreams, insomnia, diarrhea, and most recently, itching. I am on day 12 of 14 and am looking forward to getting this nasty bacteria out of my system. Chewing gum has helped with the metallic taste."

"Soooo... after reading all the negative comments on amoxicillin/clarithromycin/lansoprazole, I can't say I disagree, however, it is definitely doable. I had to miss work due to bad abdominal cramping on day 3 and waking up with that nasty taste is whack. My appetite is fine, frankly, my cravings are always through the roof and sadly my number one problem has only gotten worse...BLOATING. YETTTT... I am very positive, and it wasn't hard to get through, just an annoying inconvenience. Like an annoying toddler tugging at your trousers, who you need to remember to wake up every morning and put to bed every night. My course was 7 days, didn't take them at the same time every day and for the clarithromycin, it was recommended to be taken every 12 hours but my timing was not good. I also didn't follow the Low fodmap diet. Hopefully, an update will be pending and good results...even though I clearly wasn't perfect."
