Where is the best place to inject Mounjaro?
Recommended Injection Sites
Mounjaro is administered as a subcutaneous (under-the-skin) injection. The three recommended injection sites are:
-
Stomach (abdomen): Avoid the 2-inch area around the belly button.
-
Thighs: Inject in the upper outer thigh area.
-
Upper arms: The back of the upper arm is an option if someone else is administering the injection.
Rotate injection sites weekly to prevent irritation and lumps (lipohypertrophy). Avoid injecting in the same spot consecutively.
How to Inject Mounjaro
Mounjaro is available in two forms: single-dose vials (requiring a syringe) and pre-filled pens. Follow these steps based on your chosen method:
Single-dose vial instructions:
- Wash your hands with soap and water.
- Prepare the dose – Remove the vial cap, clean the top with an alcohol swab, and draw up the medication with a syringe.
- Inject the medication – Pinch a fold of skin and insert the needle at a 90-degree or 45-degree angle. Push the plunger down to administer the dose. Hold for 5 seconds to ensure full delivery.
- Dispose of the needle – Remove the needle at the same angle and place it in a sharps container.

Mounjaro is equally effective whether injected into the stomach, thigh, or upper arm. Choose a site that feels comfortable and rotate locations each week for optimal results.
