For Schizoaffective Disorder "When I first went on Geodon, it was like a sigh of relief. The first day I slept all day, but the grogginess passed. I took 160 mg once daily (the 80 mg twice daily didn't work, as it made me groggy). I had slight headaches and akathisia, but it was tolerable, and my mood was greatly improved. No rage, mood swings, or delusions. Unfortunately, I started getting depressed and was bumped up to 240 mg. Big mistake. I became a total zombie. I barely laughed, I couldn't read, and I had no emotions or interests. I lay in bed all the time. I lost 20 pounds and didn't have an increased appetite, which was a plus, but I was so tired. This medicine is a good one, just be careful you aren't put on a high dose."

For Bipolar Disorder "I warn you to be VERY careful with regards to this medication. I started taking it in July 2012 and was at one point up to 120 mg a day. (I absolutely no longer see the 'Dr' who had me on such a high dose.) It caused me to suffer neurological damage that took over a year to correct itself. I had involuntary muscle movements, rocking motions, tremors, as well as having to learn how to walk again normally, as it caused marked damage to the left side of my body. I was treated with physical therapy twice for the condition this medication left my body in. It is just not worth it!!! Do your research, as I am sure you are, since you are in this forum. This medication is even more dangerous than described!!"

For Bipolar Disorder "I have tried many medications for bipolar disorder. All had to be discontinued due to side effects. Then I finally tried Geodon. I have been on it for about a month. This has been the best tolerated and effective medicine for me so far. It really stabilizes my mood shifts, and I tolerate it well. The major side effects for me are restlessness, anorexia (a welcome side effect!), a little anxiety, and morning drowsiness. I went from taking this medication 40 mg twice a day to just 80 mg at night, and my morning drowsiness subsided. I am glad I tried Geodon. I hope its positive effects continue."

For Bipolar Disorder "I've been on Geodon for almost a year now. Started it because Zyprexa made me unbearably tired and confused, and Abilify made me insanely anxious. For the first three weeks, I felt tired within two hours of taking it at dinner, so I was going to bed at like 8 every night and waking up at 3 or 4 in the morning. I was also incredibly nauseous to the point where I didn't eat hardly anything for about a month and lost about 15 pounds. After that, the side effects basically went away (about once a month I'll get the sleepiness again), and it's been great at controlling my symptoms!"

For Bipolar Disorder "Can’t say too much as I was on Geodon maybe three weeks. However, during that time, I felt like I was seeing life through a bizarre perspective. I had no control over my voice levels and was yelling without realizing it. I think I almost walked into traffic. I remember being at a meeting and felt high and disjointed in thought. Couldn’t take the akathisia. That’s about it. That was enough for me. Surreal. I currently don’t take any antipsychotics so that I can work and support my family, which I have been doing now for several years. Been off them for years. And that was the secret to my success."

For Schizoaffective Disorder "Geodon, in the beginning, sounded like a good idea, but it turns out that I was very wrong. After the first day of taking it, I developed insomnia, heart palpitations, and could not feel any emotions whatsoever. These symptoms persisted for the whole time I took Geodon, and on top of that, Geodon did nothing to help my psychosis. I then asked my doctor to get me off of Geodon, and that is when the real kicker shows. Geodon has horrible withdrawal symptoms that hit despite how slowly I decreased my dose. These withdrawal symptoms for me included really bad insomnia, which made it impossible to go to bed at all and caused hallucinations, flu-like symptoms, and more heart palpitations. I am currently in week 1 out of 12 of getting off my 120 mg dose. So basically, if you take this drug, you WILL be hooked on it. Good luck."

For Bipolar Disorder "I was on Geodon for 20 years, which it turns out wasn’t necessary at all. I had so many side effects, I was taking 11 medications to treat them. NONE of my Drs. attributed my symptoms to the Geodon, unfortunately, until one of my side effects was so bad that my neurologist finally said I either had Parkinson’s or it was the Geodon. I tapered off the Geodon, and all my 20 years of medical symptoms disappeared. Everything that was wrong with me medically was caused by the Geodon. The worst was permanent brain damage that resulted in permanent tardive dyskinesia that appeared after I stopped using the drug. My psychiatrists NEVER warned me of this possibility. Mentally, I am 100% normal for the first time in 20 years as well. My psychiatrist should have stopped this drug after a short period to reevaluate its necessity and warned me of the risks of long-term use. This drug ruined 20 years of my life, and I blame all my Drs. for allowing this to happen."

For Schizoaffective Disorder "This medication was exactly what I needed for my schizoaffective and bipolar disorders. There has been absolutely no weight gain and no noticeable side effects. It has seriously leveled out my bipolar cycles, no paranoid delusions, and the depressive episodes are less painful. I know that one med won't work for some people, but this was exactly what I needed. After being on Zyprexa and gaining 10 pounds a month, this was a lifesaver."

For Bipolar Disorder "I'm surprised by the negative reviews for Geodon, it saved my life. I was given Geodon two months ago when I was hospitalized for mixed episodes. If you've never had one, I pray you never do. Geodon stopped the episode after one dose. If you experience sleepiness, ask your doctor if you can take it in one dose at dinner. Also, when reading reviews, remember that at some doses it is sedating and at others energizing. For me, it has been weight neutral, in fact, I've lost weight while on it. YMMV (your mileage may vary). Good luck finding something that works for you."

For Bipolar Disorder "This medicine made me really suicidal and depressed. I was wrought with paranoid thinking, dark depression, and a host of physical side effects. I have been coming off of it, and I'm feeling my mood improve. Things are seeming brighter again. I had speech problems while on this, I had a hard time working out, my eyes felt so sensitive to sunlight, and my head felt really weird, especially in the morning. I cannot believe I took it for so long. I didn't know that what I was going through was related to this medicine. It was awful for me."

For Schizoaffective Disorder "I started taking this in April 2017. I was on 9 medications at the time for manic episodes and severe constant hallucinations. The only medication that ever stopped my hallucinations before this was Haldol, but it caused extreme akinesia, so I stopped taking it. Originally was on 20 mg of Geodon twice daily, but have now gone to 80 mg twice daily. This medication is a miracle. The hallucinations have almost completely gone, and my mood is stable for the first time in years. No severe weight gain or weight loss. The only real side effect is that I get sleepy, but it is a welcome rest. I have gone from 9 medications to 3 medications. Recommended."

For Bipolar Disorder "After my first major breakdown in which I was diagnosed, I spent a year trying different medicines. I felt like a new (or like my old) self within a couple of days on this miracle drug. My dosages have varied depending on the other medicines (antidepressants and ADD medicines) I'm on. The only major side effect I've had that never went away (been on it for 7 years) was the sedation in the morning (I took my whole dose in the evening). Now I take 20 mgs 3x/day and 40 mgs at bedtime, then 20 mgs when required for anxiety. Right now I also take Wellbutrin XL, and I'm titrating up on Abilify due to breakthrough depression. Geodon helps both mania and depression, and I found it to be very weight neutral."

For Bipolar Disorder "I switched recently to this medicine from Latuda due to akathisia and lack of effectiveness. It has worked wonders on my mood. It has paired up with Zoloft to make a solid team of an antidepressant/mood stabilizer combination. I feel like I can do much more now, my sociability has increased, even my anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder have been helped by it! My experience on this medicine has been better overall in the past month I've been on it than the two years I was on Latuda. The only negative side effect so far is sexual side effects."

For Bipolar Disorder "I have only been on Geodon a few days, and I can't tolerate it. I feel intoxicated, can't type very well, and am already having some involuntary movements in my face. I am not taking it tonight and will see my doctor tomorrow and request something else."

For Bipolar Disorder "I started Geodon a few months ago. I like it much better than Abilify, which I was previously on. Prior to Geodon, I was waking up at 3:00 AM 3-4 nights per week. Since I have been on Geodon, I consistently sleep through the night. Geodon is a great adjunct to Lithium. They together really quell my mania. Overall, Geodon is a great medication, in my opinion."

For Bipolar Disorder "This is by far the worst medication I have ever taken for my bipolar. I would give this a zero if I could. I didn’t feel terrible at first, but I noticed some mild paranoia and anxiety. I ignored it, though, because I was actually more motivated and able to get more things done, and I was finally losing weight. I desperately wanted this med to work. The doctor increased my dose, and things got bad very quickly. I was having intense delusions, the worst I’ve ever had. They were so bad that I would just start crying because I was so scared. The brain fog, memory problems, and dissociation on this medication are awful as well. I feel so out of it all the time, and I even went to the ER because it felt like I had been drugged. My head constantly feels funny. I’m dizzy and lightheaded. My vision is blurry. Currently switching to a different med and dealing with awful withdrawal. Hopefully, the side effects go away soon. Please take caution with this medication."

For Bipolar Disorder "Geodon changed my life. The first thing that happened was it was VERY sedating. Within an hour of taking it, I was asleep so deeply that I could not be woken up no matter what happened. You could yell, shake me, nothing would wake me. I did not wake up groggy, though, and within 3 days my mind no longer raced, and I started thinking clearly. As time went on, the sedating effect lessened, though it took a really long time. While I'm on it, my brain just isn't mean to me, and I sleep like a normal person. Tough to start, as you need someone who can be with you in case there is an emergency because you will not be able to wake up or move for hours, but it works. I wouldn't trade it for the world."

For Bipolar Disorder "I was on this for several months and had great experiences with it. It made all the weird little hallucinations go away, caused me to effortlessly drop all of the Risperdal weight (60 lbs!), and just generally really helped stabilize my mood, combined with the Xanax and Depakote. Unfortunately, it's about $300 a bottle on my insurance (generic)."

For Schizophrenia "I have been on Geodon for 6 years. It works great for me. Risperdal made me sleepy, and I couldn't think as clearly. I have gained weight, but due to other medication I was taking with it. My symptoms are almost all gone. I still have some paranoia, but nothing like before. I take a lot though, 160 at night. My condition is very manageable. I just wish I didn't have this problem and didn't have to take medicine just to function normally. Good luck to all you guys searching for help."

For Bipolar Disorder "I've had a good experience with Geodon. It has controlled my mania, and I have 0 side effects. I started at 40 mg, which was not doing anything, and then switched doctors and am now at 120 mg, 40 mg in the day and 80 mg at night. It's truly been a blessing. I also take Zoloft for depression and anxiety. Together, they work well for me. My 8-year-old son has just been diagnosed with bipolar, and he has just started on Geodon. In the beginning, he was very drowsy, but in a matter of days, his hyperactivity, non-stop pressured speech, risky behavior, and emotional meltdowns and temper tantrums have all but disappeared! We all thought he had ADHD, but so far, no more ADHD meds, just Zoloft and Geodon, and he's doing well!"

For Bipolar Disorder "I was only taking Geodon for 3 weeks (tapered up to 60 mg), and one evening I was sitting in front of my computer and experienced the worst panic attack of my life (also my first panic attack). I was admitted to the ER that day. I felt like I was about to have a drug-induced psychosis. My pdoc instructed me to stop taking it immediately. The withdrawal was an absolute nightmare. I experienced over 30 different symptoms (anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, paranoia, nausea, crawling skin, heart palpitations, chills, and tingling just to name a few). It has been almost 2 months, and I am still struggling with anxiety."

For Bipolar Disorder "I'm 28 with Bipolar I Disorder with psychotic features, and I switched from Abilify to Geodon a couple of months ago. I immediately loved it. I had more productive energy than I'd had in years, but nothing verging on mania, anxiety, or restlessness. It helped both with psychotic symptoms completely, and even Bipolar depression-always the hardest to treat. I was happy, energetic, and more focused, and experienced no sedation. Unfortunately, I have a history of minor heart problems-related to past meds and over-exercise in the past-and they were triggered. Tachycardia and its symptoms, which all stopped as soon as I stopped Geodon. If I didn't have pre-existing heart problems, I would have loved to stay on it."

For Bipolar Disorder "I've been on Geodon for over a year now. I take 20 mg in the AM and 160 mg in the PM. I have Bipolar (mixed). Geodon has literally saved my life, and the side effects for me have been minimal. I also take Wellbutrin, and I was taking Seroquel as well, but that lowered my blood pressure too much, and I fainted a couple of times. Geodon is a very good drug, in my opinion, but you need to be monitored closely by your psychiatrist while taking this medication. Geodon is the most effective drug I have ever taken."

For Autism "My daughter has autism and ADHD, she has been extremely violent from a baby. Specialists had her on Risperdal, which did help initially, then they added different antidepressants and also Ritalin. Once she started on the Zeldox, it was nothing short of a miracle for us. After a few weeks, she is functioning like a 'normal' child. We cannot believe it. Even strangers come up to us to say how good our daughter is, as they have seen her before. I know that there is no 'cure' for autism, but after years and years of animal-like behavior and violence, I can honestly say it's like a miracle for us. I just hope and pray that it lasts. She has experienced dystonia with it, and we have reduced it, but it's like it has flicked a switch on in her brain."

For Schizophrenia "Geodon is a great medicine. It takes time to adjust to. Takes the false beliefs away right away. As the months go by, you will feel less depressed, have more positive thinking, and feel better about yourself. I found you have to go with the flow of adjustments to let the brain chemistry change. I'm happy my doctor has found a medicine that works. My body feels better too. Medicine takes time."
