For Depression "18, female. Been taking this on and off for 8 months now. I cannot take it every day even if I am prescribed to do so since the side effects are really taking a toll on my ability to function in everyday life. It made my depression worse. I can barely get out of bed due to fatigue from nausea and vomiting. And every time I take this, it is like the headache will stay with you 24/7 that it really becomes intolerable and frustrating. My doctor won't let me switch to another medication, and she's really pushing this for me, and it is so cruel since I feel so weak and I don't want to continue anymore. Taking it makes me want to die."

For Depression "I almost never experience major side effects from any medications, and I have been off and on many antidepressants over the past 14 years. I was taking Zoloft for a couple of months, which was helping with my depressive symptoms, but I thought it might've been giving me sexual side effects, but I wasn't sure, so my doctor suggested trying Trintellix. He said it has a lower incidence of sexual side effects. Well, not only did Trintellix give me horrible sexual dysfunction and even lower libido, every time I took this drug for two weeks, I literally felt like I was coming down with the flu about 15 minutes later. Headaches, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, feverish. I really do think this stuff is poisonous and needs to be pulled from the market."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I started taking it to help with depression. Initially, it helped ease the brain fog, but there is a serious mood dip about 1.5-2 months into taking it that they warn about on the sheet of dangers. Got over that, but when they say this is hard on the stomach, they mean it. Take it about 10 minutes after eating, do not take on an empty stomach. The amount of times I have vomited because of this is too much. My depression is more stable now, mentally and emotionally, I am doing better, but it's not an instant fix."

For Depression "I started out on 5 mg and was okay. Was a little nausea at first... but needed to increase my dose due to the seasons. When I got put on 10 mg... the vomiting and sickness really kicked in. Almost every time I take it... I vomit 10 minutes later. I'm also way more tired than I ever have been. I feel emotionless, and like I could sleep all day, every day. My mind feels like I can't think sometimes. The 5 mg never did any of this. All this started when I increased my dose."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Was great for my depression, but the side effects outweighed the benefits. I experienced vomiting on a daily basis, involuntary movements, momentary blackouts, stuttering, and struggling for words when in a conversation. Had to quit taking, symptoms were too much for me. On to the next."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I started Trintellix in the middle of January at 5 mg. The side effects were horrible. I remember that on the second day I vomited on the street while I was having a walk. I also had other side effects. After the first week, things started to change slowly for the better. After the second week, I took 10 mg. During the six weeks when I broke up with my boyfriend, everything fell apart. The medication stopped working and my depression got worse. I was on the way to kill myself. Everything was so serious and I decided to go back to my hometown where my family and therapist are. For 3 weeks I have been on Effexor XR, and I cannot say I see a positive change, but I feel hopeful that things will change for the better. I rate Trintellix a 2 because it had awful side effects and it didn't help me at the end. I wish luck to everyone reading this. You are not alone!"

For Depression "I'm on the fence with Trintellix. I had been taking Zoloft for about a year and a half with no problems, except I started to lose all emotions... not happy, not sad. No motivation. My doctor suggested Trintellix, so I switched and have been on 10 mg for about 3 months. I feel nauseous every time I take it, but it's tolerable and just passes. However, yesterday, about 30 min after taking it, eating and having some coffee, I had to run to the bathroom to vomit, like a lot. Today, I also feel even more nauseous. I'm surprised after 3 months that it is still just as bad, if not worse. However, from a mood perspective, I feel SO much better. Not sure if lowering the dose would help or what, but any suggestions would be helpful :)"

For Major Depressive Disorder "I started taking Trintellix about 3 months ago. I’m on the lowest dose, 5 mg. I’m very sensitive to side effects, so I start out small. However, I have been nauseous and vomiting since I started, it’s hardly lightened up. But I have noticed major hair loss. I noticed lots of hair come out when brushing, thinking nothing of it, but now my hair has thinned so badly there are small bald spots! I’m 30 and used to have hair that is too thick! This is unacceptable. I have never seen anything like this happen and so fast, so I know it must be the meds."

For Depression "I am on 5 mg and sensitive to these types of meds. The first week was bad, with horrible nausea (even vomiting), and I was more irritable, but now on day 9, the nausea is gone, and I haven't felt as moody, I am more relaxed. I should wait another week just to see how things might change. Otherwise, worth a try."

For Depression "I have been on Brintellix for 9 months, and it has helped my depression tremendously, although the nausea side effect has never gone away. I have had to take a 4 mg Zofran one to two times a day. At my annual physical, my GP told me to get off the Zofran because there are no studies for long-term use of Zofran, and there is a serotonin receptor inhibitor in it. I take 20 mg of Brintellix. I decided to give it a try, and I can't stop vomiting. It is so bad that I took the Zofran to control it. Today I took a half tablet, and I feel like I'm going to vomit at any time. I took today's dose with food. Has anyone else had this?"

For Major Depressive Disorder "This medication has changed my life. It's been a miracle drug for me after cycling through different meds for the last 3 years, trying to find what worked. I've powered through the nausea and vomiting and diarrhea for the last two months. Unfortunately, I'm at a point that I am not sure I want to continue the medication due to the nausea. Beside that, I haven't experienced any other side effects."

For Depression "Absolutely terrible. I switched to Brintellix from Lexapro because I was having some unpleasant side effects. My doctor suggested this medication as it has 'no side effects.' I've been through several antidepressants, and may I tell you this is by far the worst one. Not only did I have horrific physical side effects such as vomiting after only the second dose of 5 mg, but this stuff seemed to screw me up mentally - though that part could have also been due to Lexapro withdrawal. Regardless, Brintellix has made me realize how great Lexapro was. I'll take those side effects any day after this! Would not recommend Brintellix - be wary of what your doctor tells you and research any medicine before taking it. Back to Lexapro..."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I've been on the new medicine Brintellix for 12 weeks now. I have manic disorder, so I have been on every medicine you can imagine since 8th grade. It's sad, I'm 22 years old and still break down in public. It was difficult for me at first since my depression left me motionless and incapable of thinking or feeling. I was given 10 mg a day but took 20 mg, I know I wasn't supposed to do that without telling my doctor. (4th day) able to move and think somewhat. (6th day) move and critically think. I'm not saying this medicine is magic, but at least I can function. Kind of in-between with no real highs or lows emotionally. Notice I get serious nausea to the point of vomiting on the 10th day, it hasn't gone away. I also take Prozac and Zyprexa. Don't think I'll ever be normal, but as long as I'm not suicidal, it will get better."

For Depression "I've been on and off various anti-depressants for about 13 years. I hate taking them, have always resisted my doctor's recommendations. I found the improvements lackluster at best, and this just reinforced the idea that it was just me - I was just broken. Trintellix is the first AD where I've felt a notable difference. I still struggle with anti-social tendencies, but I've stabilized at work and I've taken up hobbies again. The downside is the vomiting. It's been about 3-4 months now, and I thought I was past it, but it has started up again. I can't take it in the morning on an empty stomach, and I can't take it at night if I've eaten too recently. I think it bothers me less if I have small meals, but I'm still trying to establish a definite pattern. I want to talk to my doc about trying a half dose twice a day to see if that makes a difference. I really want this one to work."

For Depression "I had such high hopes for this medication for my severe depression and anxiety. I was committed to trying it for a full 4 weeks. I started on 10 mg and then went up to 15 mg. I never managed to get to the 20 mg due to overwhelming nausea, belching, excessive salivating, unbearable constipation, and then the vomiting started. I didn't gain weight, but that is because I couldn't eat. It did help with the depression, but not the anxiety. Definitely not for me!"

For Major Depressive Disorder "Took a lot of different medications for depression ever since I was 18. I'm now 30. The problem that always affected me with venlafaxine, which maintained me good and 'alive,' is the sexual side effects. So, all my life I got to find strategies, like stopping taking it, even though I know it is wrong. Had hope in Trintellix, but my experience with it is terrible: Gave me extreme sadness, hopelessness, apathy, like going into a 'hole of darkness' for no reason. From what I see here, everybody has an awesome experience with it, besides vomiting, which is completely bearable, compared to what I am describing. If you feel what I feel with this 'magic pill,' you are not alone. Talk to your doctor and switch it."

For Major Depressive Disorder "When I was hospitalized after a suicide attempt last summer, they put me on Trintellix. I had some vomiting, so I take Zofran with it. And after being on it for over a year, I can honestly say it helps. I feel more stable in my head now, and I don't do impulsive things. There hasn't been an attempt on my life since, and I'm still here. It's a good medication, and I think it works."

For Depression "My doctor gave me samples. Went from Zoloft to Trintellix. Let's just say, this has not been a good experience. I have a tough stomach, but every time I take this medicine, I'm to the point of vomiting. Tried taking it before bed, definitely not a good idea either. Up vomiting too. I did see a small boost in energy, though, but with all the sickness, I would have to say taking this is not worth it."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I'm going on my second week of this stuff. I was told to start at 10 mg the first week. This med made me so nauseated my doctor had to prescribe me nausea meds to keep it down. I take it at night so that it helps with the vomiting. Not only does it make me sick, it also makes me very bloated and gassy. I'm on my second day into the second week on the full 20 mg and I'm exhausted. I feel like I'm getting no sleep, although I'm sleeping through the night. The vomiting is gone, but that's because of the other nausea med and the gas... I can't even stand my own gas! I'm not really sure if it's helping me at all. I do know that my anxiety has been worse since I've started it. I'm going to go the full month and see what happens, but I have a feeling I'll be junking this med along with the Wellbutrin, Zoloft, and Lexapro. Sucks. I was really hoping this one would be different since it's working wonders for a friend of mine. Another one bites the dust. Is there no hope for the hopeless?"

For Depression "I've taken many medications over the past 20 years for epilepsy, depression, and generalized anxiety. Lexapro since it was approved. It lost its efficacy, so my psychiatrist and I agreed to give 5 mg of Trintellix a try. (While remaining on the Lexapro.) He wanted to start me on the lowest possible dose to see how I handled the side effects. Everyone reacts differently to various medications, so this is just one voice, but I cannot emphasize enough how horrible I felt. Extreme GI bloating, stomach cramping, and vomiting. Yes, all possible side effects. Never felt compelled to write a medication review until now. If you have depression and this medication is offered as a first option, I would strongly advocate a tried and true older SSRI. The majority of studies are showing the “older” ones (Prozac, Lexapro, Zoloft, etc.) are just as effective. Again, if anyone’s life has improved by taking this, then that’s great. For me, it was a nightmare."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I am a 51-yr-old female and started taking Brintellix about 3 weeks ago. Nausea and vomiting since day 1 that has gotten progressively worse as I've increased dosage per my Dr's orders. I have bruises on my sides and back from the constant itching. I've just gone through one of the most stressful times of my life, and I feel like this medication not only didn't help but made me feel so much worse. I've been a coffee drinker for 30 yrs, and I can't even stomach that in the mornings anymore."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Brintellix seems to keep me on the upper end of depression. I still have no motivation to get out of the house. I am less irritable but have times of hypomania. My psych increased my dosage, but I haven't filled it yet, can't motivate myself to get it filled. When I began taking Brintellix, my psych suggested taking it with night meds because of possible nausea. I was nauseated at first, then stomach cramps began my 3rd month of taking it. Just recently started vomiting and have very bad constipation. Just started to get bad headaches. Brintellix is probably the best med for my psych problems but not so great physically. I need to get off this med, unfortunately."
