Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I have been using this for about 6 days now and already notice a huge difference. The first few days I was very tired but it was well worth it to get rid of the skin condition that came from nowhere. I am 32 and my skin had never done this before. I am so happy that this is working and thank God that it was not an expensive medication either considering I am a widow and single mom. I would tell anyone with this problem to try this first and skip anything else. It is just an infection. Best of luck to you all."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "My dr prescribed 10 days of Bactrim DS after he drained an abscess in my upper arm. It definitely worked to heal the infection, but with my last few doses, I broke out in hives and am itching all over my body. Use this with caution."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I am currently taking this medicine. I should be finishing it in two days have to take it twice for ten days. The whole time I've had migraines. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "This was the worst experience of my life. Four days after starting this medicine, the backs of my thighs starting itching like crazy for about 2 hours, I took some benadryl and it seemed to help. But then came the pain. It started in my calves. It was like pins and needles. I couldn't sleep. Then it moved to my feet. Then to my arms and hands. It was so scary!! I didn't/couldn't sleep for 2 days straight. Finally a doctor put me on steroids and some Hydrocodon for the pain. It was horrible and I would not recommend this drug to anyone!"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I have been prescribed Bactrim for a skin infection in the form of 2 boils 1 on my arm and 1 on my leg. I have been prescribed Bactrim 800/ 160 2x per day for 10 days. Started feeling horrible after the first dose. Extreme dizziness, stomach issues, headache by day 3, feeling dehydrated with weakness and joint pain and jaw pain, loss of appetite, insomnia. I am on day 5 and the dizziness is really bad I had to miss work. Only took half a dose this morning and considering stopping. Thinking I may be allergic to the sulfonomide as my grandmother is allergic and this is the first time I have ever taken this. Glad to see others have had a good experience. "

SMZ-TMP DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "After reading all the precautions for this drug and the one review; I have decided I'll let the Brown Recluse bite resolve itself. It's on the mend now anyway I'm 75 years old and this does not seem to be something I need to be taking. Thanks for the reviews and the information on the internet for giving me some insight."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I'm on my fourth 800/160 pill of bactrim treating MRSA infection which has also caused my lymph nodes behind knee and groin to swell and hurt. I initially took doxycycline for about 4 days with worsening infection. Bactrim worked day 1. The infection started to clear and lymph swelling and pain is going away. Unfortunately I had severe anxiety including shaking tightness in chest very dizzy and feelings of doom. It's possible this was brought on by me overreacting to a slight side effect but this is a very strong antibiotic. It works but you might have to suffer through it. Not fun"

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Super bad reaction. TERRIBLE! High fever, loss of appetite, lethargy, brown urine, LIVER INFLAMATION. NO RASH. After 7 days on Bactrim DS, feeling beyond terrible, I did some internet research and suspected drug fever. Ceased taking. Went to my doctor who ran blood tests which confirmed my suspicions. Liver enzymes: AST/SGOT 335 H (mine) 14-36 (unit/L) (normal range) ALT/SGPT 581 H 9-52 (unit/L) Alk Phos 307 H 38-126 (unit/L) Levels started to go down after I stopped taking it; it took 3 months for levels to return to normal. A lot of information says you have a rash with drug reactions. I did NOT. My skin infection did clear up. It wasn't that bad to start with. I asked him for something topical. Was not my regular Doc who prescribed it. My Doc said it was overkill. Just because the guy's a doctor doesn't mean he is a good doctor! Be your own advocate. Another round of this crap--who knows! Sulfonamides are one of the drugs that can cause a severe reaction"

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I had an abscess that had been draining for about 6-days without end and finally went to the ER and had it lanced and packed. The ER doctor prescribed Bactrim DS. After two days I become dizzy and nauseous and pretty much bed ridden. Based on the reviews here and other sites I have discontinued using the drug. (10-day dosage) The abscess has stopped draining seems to be doing okay after taking the meds for 5-days. Also the ER doctor failed to notice that my HBP med conflicts with this med. (Lisinopril) Next time I will do more research. Normally, I do but I felt so miserable, I assumed they knew better."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I have been on Bactrim for 1 week now and my skin is almost completely clear. I had a very bad infection across my chin and up to the right side of my nose, small red pumps, and and itchy rash that would peel over and got infected. Within 2 days I noticed a huge difference. This medicine saved my life for sure. Dermatitis and skin issues on the face can really do a number on your self esteem. I am back to almost clear skin and so so happy. A little tired and was dizzy at first but promethazine helps with that if your doctor can prescribe it, helps with nausea. other then that, this medicine rocks."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I had an incredibly bad reaction to Bactrim that led to Multiple Organ dysfunction / failure. I ended up in ICU for several days with liver and kidney failure that progressed into a pulmonary edema / A.R.D.S.. I came very close to dying after my kidneys shot down and my lungs filled with fluid. I have now been advised to never take another Sulfa based drug."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Though it did cure the abscess in my ear, it caused severe (I mean SEVERE) muscle/bone pain in my legs, abdomen, and diaphragm. Later side effects were numbness with shooting pain in my left side leg and arm. I can barely walk. I had never taken Bacrtim before (sulfonamide). I was also on cephilexin but I do not believe that was the problem because I've taken that without issues. Please think twice before you take Bactrim. For me, the benefits certainly did not outweigh the risks. For now, I've lost my quality of life."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "The 4th day of taking it (along with Cephalexin) for a wound on my ankle that became inflamed and appeared infected. I’m currently recovering from the 4th anxiety and depression episode in my life (I’m 53) so have to keep that in mind. This drug doesn’t affect my GI system at all. I am taking a probiotic with it. What it does do is increase my anxiety and depression which I experience as hot flushes, sweating, pounding heart, gloominess. It is distressing. I am trying to push thru because it is helping the wound heal. But if you are one of us folks who suffers anxiety and/or depression, please just be aware that it may exacerbate your symptoms."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "It's 1 in the morning and I am still having breathing problems after being rushed to the hospital due to an allergy to bactrim. They gave me an EpiPen its been 2 hours and I am still having trouble breathing. I'm very young and healthy and something like this never happened to me before. I'm very scared and worried that taking this medicine has given me even worse problems. Has anyone else had this experience?"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I had a skin infection from some kind of mite that had the symptoms of scabies. I heard Bactrim kills scabies by changing their gut flora. I started taking it, and all the sores alive with whatever was in my skin eating me went dormant and started healing. My skin is clearing up from the infection after just 48 hours. What is confusing is I found mites in my tub that were on my scalp, and they were not scabies, I have to identify them now to figure out how to eliminate them. Bactrim somehow stopped the ones deep in my skin from eating me."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Was prescribed to take 2 pills a day for 5 days to clear a boil that hadn’t popped yet. Worst decision to take. After 1 pill I had stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea and some jitters. I took the 2nd pill after consulting a family friend that is a doctor in another state and the jitters got worse, my heart rate went up and I woke up in the middle of the night having a panic attack. Consulted my family friend again (since couldn’t reach my doctor) and he agreed to stop the medicine since the side effects were worse than the potential benefit. Threw out the bottle and will be chatting with my doctor and maybe get a second opinion soon."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I have been having skin infections on my breasts off and on for 6 yrs. Ever since I developed mastitis when I was breastfeeding. I've been given Bactrim DS each time and advised to use Neosporin CREAM, not ointment. I'm not sure if it works all that great. It DOES take care of the red, rashy looking inflammation surrounding the "boil"/"blister", but does not seem to even really touch the actual blister itself. Without medication it will take 3 - 4 weeks or so to heal, with meds it it takes 2 weeks. I think it has alot to do with the healing of the red rash part... so I continue to take it. The only side effect I have noticed is an almost unquenchable thirst. But, no nausea, insomnia or headaches for me."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I found that within a day of taking Bactrim the infection got better, which was GREAT because I had had it for a while. I experienced a few side effects, dizziness, lack of energy, insomnia if I took the pill a few hours before bed (I found to overcome this I took the pill just before going to sleep) and headaches but they seemed to dissipate after 2-3 days."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I had an inflamed bug bite on my leg and was prescribed bactrim. I ate and took the first and only dose that night at around 8pm. Around 3ish in the morning my head was throbbing, I was insanely warm with a 102 degree fever, meanwhile having chills at the same time. What bothered me the most is my hands swelled, were red and I had intense itching. I'm still experiencing these symptoms so I don't know when they will stop."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Had an abcess removed and was prescribed Bactrim. Could not stay awake and got more sick every time I took it. Had most of the symptoms they say to contact your doctor about. Called and was told unless I had a rash there was no reason not to keep taking it. I could not function had an extreme migraine which I have never had before (sensitivity to light and sound). Upset stomach, trouble passing urine, leg pain, chills, fever among others."
