Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Was prescribed bactrim for a 'possible' infection in my leg from varicose veins. 2 pills a day for 10 days. Worst medication. Felt fine with the first pill, after the second pill I started to have bladder issues. Was peeing constantly, bladder felt heavy. Felt like I had to go after I just went. Was checked for a UTI, don't have one. Only took 2 pills and stopped. It has also caused headaches, my abdominal muscles feel weaker, loss of appetite. I must have been allergic or something.. Won't ever take this again."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I have severe medical anxiety thanks to terrible reactions to medications that started after a surgery. I’ve been on too many that made me feel absolutely crazy and had terrible side effects. I made the mistake of reading these reviews before starting Bactrim and was absolutely terrified. I took the first pill and immediately knew I was going to die and had terrible anxiety about this reaction I was going to have. But, guess what? I was FINE! I just took my last dose of a 7 day course and the only issue I had was making the mistake of going in the sun. I ended up burning a lot quicker than normal (there’s a warning for that). In fact, it had a pro to it… turns out it also helped my never ending stomach issues. Don’t let the other reviews scare you. As someone else said, most people only take the time to write reviews after a negative experience. That’s why I decided to start reviewing my positive ones."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I started off with a cut near my mouth that got infected with Staph which then spread to my mouth and throat. I could not eat for a week because of the terrible sores in my mouth. I was prescribed Cefidinr and after being on that for 3 days had no improvement, but as soon as they put me on Bactrim it started clearing up within hours!"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I was prescribed this for a nasty spider bite that got infected. The infection started getting better after one day but the nausea is 24/7. I could hardly eat anything and had trouble sleeping because of the horrible feeling in my stomach. Was prescribed 2 pills a day for 10 days. The pills were large."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I'm thinking some of the side effects commented were possibly results of the condition and not the medication. I have MRSA. Of course I have chills because the abscess are a massive infection. One person mentioned organ failure. MRSA entering the bloodstream would do that too. So far so good here- still early on. I was on clindamycin for a tooth abscess. I must have been unknowingly treating a mild staph infection. When the clindamycin stopped the bacteria became aggressive. Now here I am on Bactrim. One sore has lightened in color and pressure within 24 hours. The other sores still hurt, so I took ibuprofen. You won't get headaches if taken with pain/ fever reducer. The clindamycin wrecked my gut but I actually haven't had a hard time with the Bactrim. I've been sure to eat something or drink a glass of milk before taking it."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I had a very small cut next to my fingernail that turned into a full-blown staph infection (cellulitis. It very quickly (within 24 hours) spread up my finger to my second knuckle. My doctor prescribed 10 days of Bactrim and by the second day the infection began to subside. No side effects that I can think of."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I went to the ER for bug bites that got huge and gave me a rash. At first, they gave me steroid cream and sent me off. Went back few hours later after they doubled in size. They gave me an antibiotic shot and 2 Bactrim pills to take there plus prescription for Bactrim 3x daily. Within 24 hours, the cellulitis was almost all gone. 48 hours, it just looks like light bruising. Thank you Bactrim! However, I do have a bad sore throat now!!"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I was prescribed Bactrim for a skin infection and took one pill. Within less than an hour I was vomiting, shaking, sweating, and had severe diarrhea. I was literally unable to do anything but lay in bed with frequent bathroom trips for the next 24 hours. It was horrible. Never again."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I was diagnosed with MRSA, a staph infection that is like small boils on the skin. I was on Bactrim for two weeks and it seemed to clear it up. Actually improved in a couple of days. After a week of being off the Bactrim, I started getting the boils back. Had to take another two weeks of Bactrim."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "****I have had staph skin infection in one form or another my entire life. Cellulitis, MRSA, Staph... it’s all the same thing in one form or another. I know the formula that works every time for me. Doxycycline in conjunction with Bactrim. 2 times a day for 10 days. Bactrim has never worked by itself for me. {Once you get that under control... buy some Hibiclens. Once a week I wash myself with this in the shower, after I have done my usual body cleansing with body wash or whatever. Once a week I also put about 4 pumps of Hibiclens directly in a bath and take a bath. Have your doctor prescribe you Mupirocin ointment. Once a week, before bed, put a little of that ointment on a Qtip and swab the inside of your nostrils out with that.} That is a prevention. It works. Because once you get a staph infection, some people will always get staph infection. ***"

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Bactrim just about killed me. The worst medicine ever. It cleared up my skin infection from a bug bite after two days of taking it but I had to stop it immediately after being hospitalized from severe insomnia, horrible anxiety, body aches, heart palpitations, the list goes on. I would never take this again. Although it did its job, it also has made my life a nightmare. It has been a week since I stopped taking it and I still feel terrible. Please think twice about taking this."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "This is my third different antibiotic for a deep leg wound that was surgically debrided 4 weeks ago. I have taken Bactrim DS many times before for bladder infections with few side effects. This time I want to die. I ache all over. I am nauseated and haven't eaten anything except a few oranges for 4 days. I am drinking ginger ale and water. I can barely walk because of weakness. My cat even walks ahead of me and stops to look back at me every few steps instead of us racing. Lest anyone suggest I do not know how to take this med, I am a Registered Nurse and there is no need to question my proper dosing regimen. If it weren't for the fact that I want to keep my lower leg and foot, I would toss this medicine in the trash."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I cut my finger on a piece of metal under the seat of my car and developed a skin infection. Had the infection drained, but was also prescribed Bactrim twice a day for 10 days. After 2 days I saw my finger start healing up and within the 10 days it was completely healed. I only experienced mild nausea and some insomnia. Other than that it did a great job! Very satisfied."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I have MRSA from a piercing and was put on Bactrim (2 in the morning, 2 in the evening) 4 days ago, after 2 days on it I took myself to the hospital. I have never felt this horrible, I swear I feel like I'm going to be the end of me. It started out with a bad headache, no appetite, a little dizzy. Right now I'm sitting on the bathroom floor waiting to throw up, I didn't sleep for even a minute last night even though I was exhausted. I can't stop shivering and shaking, I'm so hot but not running a fever, unbelievable headache. My doctor said this is the only medicine that will help MRSA and I'm dumbfounded. Is this medication even worth it? I don't know if these feelings are the medication working, or not."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "After a sinus infection and an infected ingrown toenail, I was prescribed Bactrim twice daily for 14 days. I just want to say there is nothing to be afraid of. I'm terrified of taking meds. I'm severely allergic to penicillin and I've had hard times with them. So, naturally, I waited last minute to take these. I was laying in bed burning hot from inside out with a fever. I could literally feel the infection spreading in my body. I finally said enough and reached for a Bactrim. I had no side effects at all and within an hour I felt drastically better. When I take it, I also take a piece of Promethazine (Phenergan) and if fever then an ibuprofen. I also eat a pretty decent-sized meal about an hour prior with yogurt (for the probiotics). I just like to be prepared but nope, nothing bad has happened. This is the best antibiotic I've ever taken and it works fast. Trust me, don't be scared, follow instructions and eat with it, you will be just fine. Also, I sit up for 30 minutes after I take it."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "My daughter had a small red angry looking flea bite, or so we thought. We tried to draw it out with hot compress. NO go. Went to Urgent Care the next day. Was given Bacrim 800+160. That was a Saturday. Wound was 1 times worse the next day. Went to ER. Was told NOT to use hot compress but keep taking the Bactrim. Today is Tuesday. Taking this medication doesnt seem to be doing much. She is red, imflammed badly, full of nastyness and pain. Using crutches as this is on her lower leg. Seeing surgeon in 2 days because the infection is now to deep. She is in tons of pain. Thankfully there is no fever as of yet but infection is looking more and more like MRSA. Scary stuff on an 18 year old who is constantly keeping herself clean."

Doctor prescribed Bactrim and by itself with no aspirin it got rid of the headache. Apparently it does the job, does it well and does it fast for ME."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I am on the eighth day out of the total ten day course of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim I was prescribed, and my boils have not gotten any better. They have gotten larger and more hard. I assume the bactrim is doing something, because they are not draining at all, but they are definitely not going away. The doctor told me this medicine kills MSRA, which can be resistant to antibiotics, but like I said, I haven't seen any improvement, they also still hurt! I will finish out the ones I have and go back to doctor to see what the problem is. I have not read about this medicine not working for people, so I'm confused to why it's not for me."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I went to the hospital last night because there was a boil under my armpit. Last month I had one on my buttock. They tested me for diabetes, I'm not a diabetic. I don't know why I keep getting boils. They couldn't drain it because fluid hasn't formed yet, so they gave me Bactrim. I have to take 2 pills every 12 hrs. They are huge. And hopefully they work well for me like they did for most of you!"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Took Bactrim for Folliculitis. First 7 days I only had vomiting and nausea but on Day 8 I started getting fevers, intense shaking, throbbing headache, sweating, vomiting, insomnia, depression. I never felt this sick ever. It took me a while to realize it was the antibiotic. Once I stopped taking it I broke out in a rash. Ended up having a sulfa allergy. Please be cautious when taking this. There was one point where I just wanted to call 911 I was in so much agony... it did help clear up much of the infection"

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I had a horrible infection under the skin in my leg as a result of an encounter with a poisonous spider. The pain shoot throughout my leg, to the point where I couldn't walk. Went to the ER and part of the treatment was 7 days on Bactrim one pill twice a day. It definitely helped clean the infected area, and prevented additional tissue loss. I didn't feel any side effects, other than increased dizziness when I mixed with alcohol once, but that was my fault. Overall, a good experience for me."

All over body rash, fever, chills, severe leg pain, chemical burns/ulcers in ALL soft tissue areas (nose, eyes, mouth, and "down below"...), abdominal pain, diarrhea, zero appetite, headache, nausea, elevated kidney function test. Bactrim is KNOWN and has a LONG HISTORY of hurting more than helping. STAY AWAY!!"

I started taking Bactrim and the pain went away within the first two pills which was 24 hrs. The only problem is that I can't function with the nausea, dizziness, loss of appetite, headache. I think its because of sensitive stomach."
