For Atrial Fibrillation "Had a freak 1-time afib event. 54-year-old Male. No history of heart issues in the family. Rushed to ER with a heart rate of 152. Felt weak, sweaty, generally terrible. At the ER, the heart went back into rhythm, was given Xarelto 1 per day 30mg for precaution. Saw a doctor 6 days later. Felt horrible for every day on this drug. Pain, dizzy.. felt like I was being poisoned. Got worse every day. If I didn't get off this poison, I would have lost my job, as I could not function! The doctor at the cardio clinic took me off this drug immediately after the stress test came back perfect, and all blood work perfect. Been off this now for 6 days and almost free of side effects. Still some episodes of anxiety, tiredness, and dizziness. Started feeling better the next day after stopping. Stay away from this drug at all costs.. I'm wondering if I will ever feel normal again.. I was only on it for a week and wow.. unbelievable."

For Atrial Fibrillation "Since taking Xarelto, I have had 3-4 vivid dreams/nightmares per night that were very work-specific, strenuous, and exhausting (not frightening), and I awaken in the morning exhausted from all the effort put forth in the dreams."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I was put on Xarelto after a small P.E. in the lower lobe of my right lung and have not felt right since. I am tired all the time, have no energy, migraines, dizzy, and also increased anxiety. The reason I decided to take Xarelto over the other blood thinners was because of not having to go to the doctor monthly, which I believe is the only good thing about this medication. Can't wait to go off of it in a month. I'm so thankful to read the comments and see I am not the only one suffering these side effects."

For Atrial Fibrillation "First 5 weeks on Xarelto I had explosive diarrhea. A sac of blood formed at the back of my mouth and broke while brushing teeth. I had wondered if the sac was pus signaling abscess, however, after the sac broke and blood flowed, no other problems occurred. My eyes have sandy substances that I am continually rubbing away, eyes are red, irritated, look tired. Sometimes I cannot read what is on a computer screen or in a book. I have tiredness/weakness. Also, headaches/neck aches, which are not normal for me. Will be discussing these at an appointment in July. I have been on Xarelto for 4 1/2 months."

For Pulmonary Embolism "On Xarelto 15 mg for 4 weeks twice a day and now 20 mg once a day. I have one month left. I went to the ER after one month of treatment for what felt like another PE ...only to find out that my original PE site was clear and I have nothing else. Therefore, I’m convinced the symptoms I’m experiencing are side effects from the drug. Constant tiredness, lightheadedness, bouts of shortness of breath followed by random body aches and anxiety. The anxiety is body anxiety where I get shaky... I can’t deal with any type of interaction or social stimulation or I get short of breath and anxious. Prior to this, I was a very socially active person, but now I cannot withstand a short visit from anyone. From the infarctions from a PE, I still have lingering side effects with physical exertion, but I still do believe that they are intensified from this drug, especially the neurological side effects. Xarelto does have horrible side effects (not for everyone), but it saved my life, so I hate to complain about it."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I have been on Xarelto for 7 months. I had bleeding in both eyes the first month, bleeding from hemorrhoids after that, and still do. My joints and muscles hurt so bad, and it's actually hard to walk at times. I have swollen legs, feet, and hands. I do know I am overweight and 71 years old, but my blood pressure is controlled on meds. I do have afib, but I want off this terrible medication. The doctor told me they are all the same and I need to stay on it. Coumadin made me terribly sick, dizzy, and tired. I am ready to give up and just take natural thinners."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I'm a 50 yr old female who is still menstruating. I started this drug in the hospital, and my cycle went from 3-5 days to up to 9 days then stopped. This month, I am on day 15 of an incredibly heavy cycle. I wear two extra long overnight pads (which should last 10 hours), and I go through them in less than 2 hours. I started this drug after a mild stroke that seems to have been a by-product of A-fib. I didn't want Coumadin (aka Rat Poison) and thought out of the 3 two-year-old medicines left, this seemed to be the best for my active lifestyle. It is not. The bleeding is so heavy, I am exhausted. Pains in my feet and ankles, back pains, neck pains, and migraine-like headaches on the opposite side of my stroke-affected side. Help!"

For Pulmonary Embolism "Never had a PE, but I became sedentary, sitting for hours working on my laptop. I also stopped drinking lots of water. The only reason the hospital found for my saddle PE was long hours of sitting & reduced water intake. Water keeps blood flowing; so does exercise. I passed out & woke up with sweating, nausea, couldn't breathe; then my heart went into a-fib. The ER did a CT scan & found a 6-inch clot! Took Xarelto 15 mg. twice daily, then 20 mg. once daily. My awesome hematologist ordered a battery of 19 separate blood tests after I'd been on Xa for 6 months. With good test results & no further clots, dosage reduced to 10 mg. once daily. Side effects: hair loss (I had thick, long hair; over 60% now gone), bizarre dreams, muscle twinges, headaches, dizziness, increased skin/nerve sensitivity & bruising, tiredness, extreme weight gain. I barely eat 2 meals daily, but gained 40 lbs. since taking Xarelto! I hope to be weaned from this drug, but I know God & Xarelto saved my life!"

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "This is my second DVT in 5 years. I'm only 26, and it's from a genetic disorder. I took warfarin the first time around, and her doctor gave me Xarelto this time. I was thrilled due to no strict diet, constant finger pricks, etc. However, from day 1 of Xarelto, I had horrible headaches that I could not get rid of. I took my dose with dinner, and if we had a late dinner, after 7, I would get vivid dreams that left me exhausted in the morning. It caused two ocular migraines, which I have never had, which scared me because I thought I was going blind! I was also hallucinating at all times of the day. I'm back on warfarin now, all side effects have stopped! Loved the promise of Xarelto, but believe it needs more testing!"

For Pulmonary Embolism, Recurrent Event "I had multiple pulmonary embolisms a month ago and am using Xarelto 15 mg in the morning and 15 mg at night. I am very happy with it compared to warfarin I used 15 years ago for a DVT. The only complaint I have is that I feel tired and exhausted most of the time. My hair loss is less than with warfarin. I hope these side effects diminish because I have to be on blood thinners for life."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I am 20 years old, and I just started the rivaroxaban 2 weeks ago, after they found a clot in my arm! I'm on 20 mg twice a day for 3 weeks and then 15 mg for 3 months. I find I am really tired all the time, and I do get a good bit of sleep at night too! I never usually got headaches before, but now I find around an hour after taking the pill, I get a headache! Just wondering, is this due to the pill, or am I just overthinking it!"

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "I have been on it for 2 years and have started having irregular heartbeats, sore joints, dizziness, tiredness, to the point that I don't even want to get out of my chair, and a lot of other side effects. I am working to get off this drug, I don't like what it is doing to me."

For Pulmonary Embolism, Recurrent Event "Xa inhibitors such as Xarelto are increasingly becoming more commonly prescribed and are very effective in treating antiphospholipid syndrome (an autoimmune disorder that causes 'sticky blood,' resulting in clots) as an alternative to warfarin, particularly in the cases of patients such as myself who had unstable INR results. The side effects have been minimal and possibly can't all necessarily be blamed on Xarelto as I take many other medications, some with similar side effects such as tiredness and headaches. The worst side effect for me is dizziness, but my specialist recommended I take it just before bed instead of in the morning as the dizziness wears off within several hours."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis Prophylaxis after Knee Replacement Surgery "Was on Eliquis. Awful drug. Was on it for 6 weeks and my urine got VERY rank. After 2 and a half months, I woke up one night and my heart was vibrating, along with jaw and arm pain. It stopped after 5 minutes. It occurred 2 to 5 times a day for 5 days. Made a Dr. appointment and I cut pills to 1 a day. The Dr. put me on Xarelto. Still have the bad urine smell. Had a few days of heart episodes, but now it seems to be better. Have taken 16 pills, one a day. I still have slight tightness and jaw pain occasionally, but nothing compared to Eliquis. I also, on Eliquis, had sore eyes and was very, very tired. I am still tired but not as bad. Have 2 more months to go. Just wanted to share this with everyone that has to take this medicine!!"

For Pulmonary Embolism "I really do not like this medication at all. It makes me feel so sick and tired. It gives me panic attacks, especially at night. I get dizzy, foggy, tired, nausea, heartburn, chest pain, back pain, leg pain. I’m supposed to be on this for 6 months, but I don't know how bad this medication will be for me before then. I guess it’s keeping my clots at bay, that’s the only positive about this med so far."
