"I've had severe insomnia for 2 years now. I am a very healthy woman in my mid-30's, no other medical conditions. Dr. can not figure out what is going on. I literally will not fall asleep without taking some type of prescription medication (I will still be awake at 5-6 a.m without medication). I have been on Ambien 10 mg for 6 months as either no other medication I have tried works, or I have horrible side effects. But while the Ambien helps me FALL asleep, I will wake up 5-6x after about 2-3 a.m, sometimes not falling back asleep. Referred to a neurologist who has put me on Ramelteon. Within 2-3 days on this medication I was able to cut my Ambien in half. Within 2 weeks I can sleep most nights without the Ambien. I only wake up about 2x a night now. Has been almost a month on this medication, zero side effects so far. Expensive and my insurance doesn't cover, but GoodRX coupon makes this affordable enough."

Rozerem (ramelteon) "Usually take clonazapam, but was too early for refill so dr prescribed Roserem which cost me $57.00 because deductible wasn’t met. Took at 9:30, it’s now midnight and just took melatonin liquid & two Advil pm’s. Obviously rozerem didn’t do squat!"

Rozerem (ramelteon) "Um, so this has to be the worst medicine for sleep ever! I felt like my arms were floating and other strange body sensations. My mind was going in circles. I took it for three nights then for the next night after that it seemed the med has messed up my cycle....this med is as useless."

"Here is my feedback after the 2nd day. Obviously, I do not have a good amount of data points yet to make a final conclusion (as many reviewers pointed out that it takes 7-10 days for a full effect). However, here are my observations: What is good: It is definitely worth trying, but with some caution. For example, I suggest trying it on the weekend to mitigate potential next-day side effects. It does help, but with some caveats. What is bad: The side effects are very noticeable but tolerable. These include vivid dreams, hangovers, brain fog, vertigo, and increased heart rate in the middle of the night. What is obvious (even without trying): The cost is ridiculously high compared to all other sleep aids, and the statement that it is "non-habit forming" contradicts the instruction to wait for 7-10 days for your body to adapt to it. There are no miracles here. I am 57 years old with about 5 years of experience using Ambien, Sonata, and Mirtazapine in very low doses (all on an as-needed basis), and all of them come with a price."

Rozerem (ramelteon) "my issues with sleep have always been getting to sleep ok but waking up 3am and difficulty getting back to sleep. to counter this i take 20mg of doxepin which works wonderfully and lessens my general anxiety and depression. However recently i had trouble falling asleep (work stresses) and the dox doesn't work like that. so my doc prescribed rozerem 8mg and in conjunction with the low dose dox it worked wonders. only had to take it a couple days to get my sleep cycle back on track. like melatonin it produces crazy weird dreams but no bad side effects. now i only take it occasionally when anxiety strikes causing bad sleep induction insomnia. Even with my copay it's expensive @ $5/dose (doxepin 5 cents/dose). Recc for occasional."

Rozerem (ramelteon) "People are quick to judge this medication. I have found that it does indeed make me sleep. However, I still wake up at my usual time at about 3-4 in the morning. This medication is really good for helping you fall asleep but not keeping you asleep."

"I love, love, love this medication. I am a Recovering Addict (10 years clean and sober), and have been taking Seroquel for sleep all this time - which has caused significant weight gain and a sense of "mental dullness." I cannot take anything like Ambien due to my past abuse of benzodiazepines, so when I found Rozerem I was thrilled. I am taking less than half of the Seroquel dose I was on, along with the Rozerem and have had terrific results - I'm sleeping 7-8 hours/night, which is extraordinary for me. I know everyone is different, but I can't say enough about Rozerem. My experience has been excellent!"

Rozerem (ramelteon) "Tried Rozerem for the first time the other day. It definitely helped me fall asleep, and without the "heavy sedative" feelings that come along with most other drugs- such as Ambien, Lunesta, etc. closest to a natural feeling of wanting to go to sleep, very calming, also helped with racing thoughts. The letdown of this medication was the next day...could NOT get up! Felt as though I had taken a tranquilizer. All day feeling...like I had taken a high double-dose of Ambien. This is my experience though, unfortunately - seemed perfect at first. Everyone is different though, most will probably hopefully have a much different experience. I say try it."

Rozerem (ramelteon) "Scary!!! Was only able to be on this drug for a few weeks. It gradually increased depression to such a degree that I almost admitted myself to the ER for depression watch. I've never felt depression like this. It peaked in the morning and let up by the afternoon. (3-4pm). It's now the third day since I took it and it is lifting more and more every day. Never again!"

"I was prescribed this to get me off zolpidem. My main issue is anxiety and waking up feeling like I have a hangover. I tried other meds, but they left lasting side effects also. I wouldn't recommend this drug, been on it almost a month. It helps me get to sleep, but I have bad dreams, and continuously waking up."

"This has been a life changer for me. After years of Ambien, it was still a huge struggle to sleep every night. I've been taking this for a little over a month now and couldn't be happier! I fall asleep in about 30 minutes after taking it and sleep throughout the night. In the morning, I have no 'hangover' effect from it. I don't wake up drowsy or sluggish. I wish I would have given up on Ambien and started this sooner."

Rozerem (ramelteon) "I took this for the first time last night. I have had insomnia for years now, and nothing has helped; gabapentin and clonidine, doxepin, amitryptiline, so many OTCs. My doc put me on this med and it did not help me fall asleep at all. it didn’t give me anxiety or anything like that, just had no effect. The reason I’ll NEVER take this med again is the horrible headache I had when I woke up. This is probably the worst headache I’ve ever had, and I can’t seem to get rid of it. This med isn’t for everyone"

Rozerem (ramelteon) "Medication did not keep me asleep. No trouble falling asleep, but awoke only a few hours later. Extreme exacerbation of depression occurred. Loss of appetite, loss of taste, olfactory hallucinations ( the smell of burning cigars?), occurred no explanation given. Only used the drug 2 nights but these experiences frightened me I will not use again."

Rozerem (ramelteon) "Just started this medication tonight. Have been up all night. I am sure it takes awhile to straighten out your sleep cycle. I will stay with it to see if it works down the road. Will be worth it not to be addicted to a medication to sleep. Also think I will try Valerian Root"

"I've been on rozerem for 2 decades, and I'm a raging insomniac. Rozerem works so well that I never thought to look it up. I was a bulimic and anorexic for over a decade and you never get rid of eating disorder thinking. My weight has ballooned and nothing short of starving has helped me to lose it. I'm off most of my beanies but still have a helluva time losing at. Then I discovered-2 decades too late-that this drug causes a 30% weight gain. Yes. That's right. I'd rather starve than continue this drug. Unless gaining weight is a joy for you, BEWARE"

Rozerem (ramelteon) "I've been taking Rozerem for 2 years now. I take it every night. For the last three nights I didn't take it and my body rebelled. It is absolutely habit forming. My body went through withdrawals after not taking it for 3 nights in a row. I had crawlies in my legs, I was nauseated, a little shaky, had a rapid pounding heartbeat. It was awful. I took it again last night to see if that was causing the sensations in my body and I feel completely fine today. So, I know I had been withdrawing from it. I get an average of 5 hours of sleep on this medicine. It's the best my shrink can do without putting me on another benzo, which he won't do. I've taken every insomnia medicine they have for 24 years now, and Rozerem is the only one that lets me stay asleep for up to 5 hours after making me tired (and is not a benzo). Getting my insurance to cover it was like pulling teeth. I had to go through a medicine review panel for permission so I could take it."

Rozerem (ramelteon) "So recently I got prescribed with Rozerem. I've been having trouble falling and staying asleep. I told my psychiatrist that I wanted to try melatonin, and he gave me Rozerem. It's been four days since I've been on it. Two out of four of those nights, I had very vivid dreams and nightmares. On the second day, I had two nightmares in a row. On the fourth day, another nightmare, and I've been up for two hours. It's 5:41 am at the moment. I wanted melatonin so I could sleep at night and lucid dream. I'd rather be active and do whatever I want in my dreams than live in this reality. I sleep when I'm overly stimulated and just overall depressed. I'm happy that my dreams are very vivid, but when I'm having a nightmare, I like to be aware so that I can either change my dream or just wake up. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case. Yes, Rozerem works for putting me to sleep, but if you don't want to potentially have nightmares, I don't recommend it."

Rozerem (ramelteon) "I tried Rozerem upon Doctors request. First night I was not sure if it worked or not. The next day I took a nap around 2pm and felt horrible after waking. Headache and utter exhaustion. Tried for the second night and was unable to sleep until 4am. It gave me a feeling of anxiety."

Rozerem (ramelteon) "I have been taking over-the-counter sleep aids and was up to taking double or triple or even more to be able to get some sleep, most of the time to no help. This is the first prescription of sleep medicines so I don't know if my experience will help. The first time I took Rozerem 8mg I slept all night and on and off all day, but I take so much pain medicines it could have interacted with them. So the next night I halved the dose and did not have the same side effects like the first dose. "

Used Zolpidem which worked great but insurance wouldn't offer it anymore so tried Rozerem for 1st time. Have tried Edluar which started working for me and the supplier is out???? Back to the only one left which was Rozerem and it's been 3 nights of no sleep UGH"

"I've been taking rozerem for a few years now, pretty consistently. I'm surprised by the low ratings. As one other reviewer stated, this won't knock you out cold. It's a helper. I take it 30 minutes before I go to bed. By the time that 30 minutes has passed, I'm drowsy and ready to sleep. I can, and have, pushed through the drowsiness if I wanted to stay awake longer for whatever reason, and of course then it doesn't work. But if you go to bed and let it work, it does the job beautifully. I have no side effects other than feeling well rested. No hallucinations like ambien. No next-day dizziness like Lunesta. Don't know what I'd do without it. The only downside: It is crazy expensive."
