Ramelteon "I took this for the first time last night. I have had insomnia for years now, and nothing has helped; gabapentin and clonidine, doxepin, amitriptyline, so many OTCs. My doc put me on this med, and it did not help me fall asleep at all. It didn’t give me anxiety or anything like that, just had no effect. The reason I’ll NEVER take this med again is the horrible headache I had when I woke up. This is probably the worst headache I’ve ever had, and I can’t seem to get rid of it. This med isn’t for everyone."

"I love, love, love this medication. I am a recovering addict (10 years clean and sober) and have been taking Seroquel for sleep all this time - which has caused significant weight gain and a sense of 'mental dullness.' I cannot take anything like Ambien due to my past abuse of benzodiazepines, so when I found Rozerem, I was thrilled. I am taking less than half of the Seroquel dose I was on, along with the Rozerem, and have had terrific results - I'm sleeping 7-8 hours/night, which is extraordinary for me. I know everyone is different, but I can't say enough about Rozerem. My experience has been excellent!"

Ramelteon "I try going to bed around 9 PM, in order to try to get some sleep, but usually wake up in the middle of the night at 3-4 AM, and can't go back to sleep. Last night I took my first tablet as prescribed. Today I feel fatigue, dizzy, headache, blah. What do I take to compensate for these side effects? Or, will they go away after my second dosage?"

Ramelteon "Tried Rozerem for the first time the other day. It definitely helped me fall asleep, and without the 'heavy sedative' feelings that come along with most other drugs, such as Ambien, Lunesta, etc. Closest to a natural feeling of wanting to go to sleep, very calming, also helped with racing thoughts. The letdown of this medication was the next day...could NOT get up! Felt as though I had taken a tranquilizer. All day feeling...like I had taken a high double dose of Ambien. This is my experience though, unfortunately - seemed perfect at first. Everyone is different though, most will probably hopefully have a much different experience. I say try it."

Ramelteon "Like Ambien, Rozerem causes drowsiness and decreases mental alertness, and they both carry over these side effects into the next morning. Unlike Ambien, Rozerem does not carry the same risk of negatively affecting your GABA receptors over time. Rozerem increases, and Ambien decreases the frequency of dream states."

Ramelteon "My issues with sleep have always been getting to sleep okay, but waking up at 3 AM and having difficulty getting back to sleep. To counter this, I take 20 mg of doxepin, which works wonderfully and lessens my general anxiety and depression. However, recently I had trouble falling asleep (work stresses), and the dox doesn't work like that. So my doctor prescribed Rozerem 8 mg, and in conjunction with the low dose dox, it worked wonders. I only had to take it a couple of days to get my sleep cycle back on track. Like melatonin, it produces crazy weird dreams but no bad side effects. Now I only take it occasionally when anxiety strikes, causing bad sleep induction insomnia. Even with my copay, it's expensive at $5 per dose (doxepin 5 cents per dose). Recommended for occasional use."

"I was prescribed this to get me off zolpidem. My main issue is anxiety and waking up feeling like I have a hangover. I tried other meds, but they left lasting side effects also. I wouldn't recommend this drug, been on it almost a month. It helps me get to sleep, but I have bad dreams and continuously waking up."

Ramelteon "My doctor put me on Rozerem as an alternative to Ambien to help me sleep. I have taken it for four nights now and at most slept two hours each night. I agree with the other reviews, this just doesn’t work for severe insomnia."

Ramelteon "Rozerem is the worst medication I have taken. No wonder why it's not prescribed often. To people who have anxiety, stay away from this useless drug. Spare yourself from panic attack and laryngeal edema. Very dangerous medication."

Ramelteon "Age 25, I had mild insomnia, and a tendency to stay up too late and sleep too late in the day. On my doctor's advice, I took Rozerem when it first came out in 2005. HUGE mistake! I used it for a month, during which time I felt strangely nervous, 'edgy,' and very restless at night. My doctor convinced me to continue it. Well, after that month I said 'no way!' I had to get off of it because it was literally making me feel crazy. Well, now the 'fun' part of the story starts. You see, now without it, I had SEVERE and intractable insomnia. I stayed awake for 9 straight days after stopping it, only sleeping when going to the hospital and getting an injection of midazolam. So began an endless cycle of horrible insomnia and prescriptions of sedatives, a nightmare which persisted for 11 straight years. FINALLY, around 2016, my brain got itself back together and now I sleep normally again without any medication. I will NEVER take a sleeping pill again! Rozerem damaged my SCN, we believe."

Ramelteon "Scary!!! Was only able to be on this drug for a few weeks. It gradually increased depression to such a degree that I almost admitted myself to the ER for depression watch. I've never felt depression like this. It peaked in the morning and let up by the afternoon (3-4pm). It's now the third day since I took it, and it is lifting more and more every day. Never again!"

Ramelteon "Um, so this has to be the worst medicine for sleep ever! I felt like my arms were floating and other strange body sensations. My mind was going in circles. I took it for three nights, then for the next night after that, it seemed the med has messed up my cycle. This med is as useless."

"I am so happy with my decision to switch to Ramelteon! After just one night, it has worked as expected. Ramelteon lets me sleep. No morning grogginess. No weird side effects. I highly recommend. I am an Ambien refugee... Years of late-night raids on my pantry or fridge caused by Ambien, then Zolpidem. Too many nights driving in my pajamas and an overcoat to the convenience store and binging on junk food. I've had unrelenting insomnia for 15 years, since menopause. Nothing resolved it, not even HRT. I started with Ambien in 2011, not knowing that it would make me eat foods I had no intention of eating late at night and ruin my healthy eating habits. I fought against the side effects by never allowing ready-to-eat food in my house. This hurt my marriage and my self-esteem. The stress and shame from feeling out of control had taken a toll. I finally had enough. I had to advocate for myself by researching an alternate med. I'm SO FREE now! Thank you, Ramelteon!"

Ramelteon "Just started this medication tonight. Have been up all night. I am sure it takes a while to straighten out your sleep cycle. I will stay with it to see if it works down the road. Will be worth it not to be addicted to a medication to sleep. Also think I will try Valerian Root."

Ramelteon "Medication did not keep me asleep. No trouble falling asleep, but awoke only a few hours later. Extreme exacerbation of depression occurred. Loss of appetite, loss of taste, olfactory hallucinations (the smell of burning cigars?) occurred, no explanation given. Only used the drug 2 nights, but these experiences frightened me, I will not use again."

Ramelteon "Tried this one night. I had horrible nightmares, woke up with my heart beating rapidly, took about 2 hours to get back to sleep, went straight into the same nightmare. Repeated 4 times that night. Never will try again."

Ramelteon "I have been taking over-the-counter sleep aids and was up to taking double, or triple, or even more to be able to get some sleep, most of the time to no help. This is the first prescription of sleep medicines, so I don't know if my experience will help. The first time I took Rozerem 8mg, I slept all night and on and off all day, but I take so much pain medicine it could have interacted with them. So the next night, I halved the dose and did not have the same side effects like the first dose."

Ramelteon "I've been taking Rozerem for 2 years now. I take it every night. For the last three nights, I didn't take it, and my body rebelled. It is absolutely habit-forming. My body went through withdrawals after not taking it for 3 nights in a row. I had crawlies in my legs, I was nauseated, a little shaky, and had a rapid pounding heartbeat. It was awful. I took it again last night to see if that was causing the sensations in my body, and I feel completely fine today. So, I know I had been withdrawing from it. I get an average of 5 hours of sleep on this medicine. It's the best my shrink can do without putting me on another benzo, which he won't do. I've taken every insomnia medicine they have for 24 years now, and Rozerem is the only one that lets me stay asleep for up to 5 hours after making me tired (and is not a benzo). Getting my insurance to cover it was like pulling teeth. I had to go through a medicine review panel for permission so I could take it."

Ramelteon "I tried Rozerem upon doctor's request. First night, I was not sure if it worked or not. The next day, I took a nap around 2 PM and felt horrible after waking. Headache and utter exhaustion. Tried for the second night and was unable to sleep until 4 AM. It gave me a feeling of anxiety."

Ramelteon "Second time I've tried this, and again, it does not work. Was hoping the first time maybe I should have stayed on it longer. Used Zolpidem, which worked great, but insurance wouldn't offer it anymore, so I tried Rozerem for the first time. Have tried Edluar, which started working for me, and the supplier is out???? Back to the only one left, which was Rozerem, and it's been 3 nights of no sleep, UGH."

"I've been taking Rozerem for a few years now, pretty consistently. I'm surprised by the low ratings. As one other reviewer stated, this won't knock you out cold. It's a helper. I take it 30 minutes before I go to bed. By the time that 30 minutes has passed, I'm drowsy and ready to sleep. I can, and have, pushed through the drowsiness if I wanted to stay awake longer for whatever reason, and of course then it doesn't work. But if you go to bed and let it work, it does the job beautifully. I have no side effects other than feeling well rested. No hallucinations like Ambien. No next-day dizziness like Lunesta. Don't know what I'd do without it. The only downside: it is crazy expensive."

"I've been on Rozerem for 2 decades, and I'm a raging insomniac. Rozerem works so well that I never thought to look it up. I was bulimic and anorexic for over a decade, and you never get rid of eating disorder thinking. My weight has ballooned, and nothing short of starving has helped me to lose it. I'm off most of my beanies but still have a helluva time losing it. Then I discovered-2 decades too late-that this drug causes a 30% weight gain. Yes. That's right. I'd rather starve than continue this drug. Unless gaining weight is a joy for you, BEWARE."

Ramelteon "My doctor prescribed Rozerem last week. I have taken temazepam 30 mg for years, but it had stopped being effective, so we are testing alternatives. Last night was the seventh night of taking Rozerem - no help."

Ramelteon "I use Rozerem as a backup when my Halcion stops working due to overuse. I find that the Rozerem definitely knocks me out for a good number of hours. The only side effect is the feeling of a mild hangover in the morning. But overall, it is a good backup to have in your arsenal when you suffer from severe insomnia as I do."

Ramelteon "It replaces Ativan. No, it doesn't! It works, in combination with 10 mg Melatonin, for a max of four hours, four hours of seriously intense dreams! At 3:30 a.m., I'm wide awake, tossing and turning till daylight. Only thing left is good old NyQuil!"
