For Arrhythmia "Have been taking 120 mg propranolol a day for over a year now. Was prescribed because my heart palpitations suddenly got much, much worse, out of the blue, to the point I couldn't function. Propranolol has calmed the horrible, constant palpitations, however, I still get flutters fairly regularly, although on a bad day I can have them off and on all day. But it's definitely improved the palps, it just hasn't wiped them out completely. But overall, propranolol does help calm the heart flutters. Side effects I've noticed? Not sure. But I seem to tolerate propranolol better than I did metoprolol, which made me feel nauseous. Propranolol doesn't do this to me. So if you're like me and you're reading up on here because you're a big baby afraid to take a new med, please don't worry about this one unless you already have low blood pressure, as the drug can lower your blood pressure. But apart from that, in my opinion, you'll be okay."

For Performance Anxiety "Unbelievable. Suffered for years with performance anxiety and my current job meant I had to do more and more meetings. It got to the point that I was thinking I'd have to leave my job or throw myself off a bridge to escape. As a last resort, I went to the doctor hoping to try beta blockers - I got these thinking they might help a bit. THEY TOTALLY CURED ME. It was like a miracle - I was even cracking jokes and arriving first at meetings, whereas before I'd hidden in toilets. Only my 1st week, don't know what the future holds but for now I'll just celebrate the relief this has provided."

For Performance Anxiety "Why is this not a listed anxiety drug!!! I have tried therapy to no avail and this drug saved my career. My job involves presenting, however, I developed pre-covid a crippling response when I stand to introduce myself. A severe rush of adrenaline, every inch of me screaming RUN RUN RUN. Sweaty, shaky, unable to speak or breathe, heart pounding. The feeling was terror. I unfortunately ran out of a big presentation in front of the board and had to leave my old job. I then found propranolol and all symptoms gone when I pop a 40mg pill 1h then 30min before. Lucky I found it when I did."

For Performance Anxiety "Anxiety ruling my life, scared to go to work, on my days off not wanting to go anywhere. I spoke to the doctor and he prescribed me Propranolol. Almost immediately I felt different, the shaking stopped. I felt different, more calm. It's early days, but is this the answer to all my prayers? We will see."

For Panic Disorder "I have had panic disorder my entire life, and racing heart never used to be one of my symptoms. About 23 years ago, when my mom was in the hospital, I had a horrible tachycardia attack with my heart racing over 240 bpm. I was in the hospital visiting my mom at the time, and they wrote it off as anxiety related. I have had benign tachycardia as a symptom ever since. When I'm anxious, my heart races and I cannot do anything. Getting on propranolol was the number one best thing I have done. I am also on a very low dose of Xanax (two to three quarter mg's per day). I take three to four 10 mg tablets of propranolol, more as needed. If I have something difficult to do or have to drive far, I need more. But if my heart isn't racing, then I feel more comfortable doing things. If I didn't have it, I would be completely housebound agoraphobic like I was when I was 18."

For Anxiety "I have had anxiety problems my WHOLE life. I would try to manage as best I could, but after being diagnosed with a chronic pain condition in my late teens, things just got out of control. Whenever I would have a flare-up, I would truly believe I was dying in that very moment, even though I clearly wasn't. One time, my panic attack was so bad my blood pressure was 156/90 and my heart rate was 113!! I am in my 20s and do not have heart problems. Propranolol 20 mg has truly saved me in those moments where I felt out of control. When things got bad, I would take one 20 mg tablet with a full glass of water and just try to breathe. Within 1 hour, the panic attack would always be 100% gone. It has absolutely allowed me to physically calm down and thus mentally calm down as well. It's awesome knowing I have something considered non-addictive that can save my sanity in such terrible moments. I wish you all the best luck on your journey."

For Anxiety "I was prescribed propranolol to help with my agoraphobia. It works wonders in slowing my heart, I’m prescribed 10 mg, but half of that works. However, after I started taking the drug, my mental health declined drastically to the point I became suicidal. Turns out propranolol can cause severe mood issues, including depression and suicidal ideation. I am sensitive to medication, so this side effect may be rare, but please be careful if you’re prescribed this, are prone to mental health problems, and are sensitive to meds."

For Performance Anxiety "I never leave reviews, but the contribution of this thread and propranolol deserves a special mention. I have struggled all my life with severe public speaking anxiety. When you are young, you are told it will get easier, and you live in hope, but for me, it only got worse, particularly with work pressures and an increasing feeling of inadequacy. During a recent presentation at work, I could not even speak, pounding heart, quivering voice, shaking... you know the symptoms! And then the shame and feeling of humiliation, which seems to stay with you forever. I've meditated, read countless psychology books, therapy, and nothing ever worked. I came across this thread, and although skeptical, I decided to give it a go, and oh my god! I could not believe how calm I was in that presentation. I tried it again a couple of times for presentations, and it worked every single time without fail. 40 mg an hour before, and that's it. Like many of you, I wish I'd known about this sooner. Thank you, science!"

For Panic Disorder "This medicine I have called my “miracle pill.” I had suffered from severe social anxiety for years and also Benign Essential Tremors. The only word I could think of when I’d have an anxiety attack was “sensory overload,” that’s what came to mind when I’d be asked what it felt like. My tremors had also started to get noticeable to where my body shook from my head to feet. I literally felt like a freak. My social anxiety got so bad that I went to self-medicating with street drugs, which actually only made my life worse. I ended up in drug rehab about 2 hours from my home, and was referred to this clinic for my tremors, and that’s when my entire life changed. I was seen by a Nurse Practitioner who prescribed me Propranolol, she said this medicine is gonna help me AND WOW does it help!!! My life has gotten better ever since that day. I am a server at a restaurant, never ever did I see myself working with the public and here I am 5 days a week!!!"

For Performance Anxiety "A life changer for me. I have suffered with performance and social anxiety for as long as I can remember (32-year-old male). I recently had a stressful period where I fell into a panic disorder and depressive episode. I have since been prescribed propranolol. I cannot put into words what this drug does for performance and social anxiety. I am able to actually enjoy my life, relax in public situations, and feel calm during performance-type work-related situations. It quietens the inner critic and allows the positive voice to shine through. 10/10 absolutely life-changing."

For Performance Anxiety "So I have a huge fear of public speaking. In any setting, I have avoided these completely until recently. It was in the form of adrenaline rush, fast heart rate, tunnel vision, shaky voice... pure panic. I've been trying to get more comfortable in these situations, so I joined Toastmasters for public speaking improvement (Highly recommend). But, I still needed that extra bit of confidence so my doctor prescribed Propranolol (10mg) to be taken before the event. I had my first ever speech to give at Toastmasters, which was really worrying me, so I took a 10mg first thing in the morning to help with the nerves that build during the day, then 10mg 90 mins before, then 10mg 20 mins before the speech (at 7:20 PM). I actually really enjoyed the speech, absolutely no fear or symptoms, and I got to work on being a better public speaker, rather than focusing on not dying and failing. I've read people taking doses up to 160mg, for me that was too much to play with."

For Anxiety "I started having anxiety attacks a year and a half ago due to stress at work and lifelong traumas that just built up. I started out having tachycardia, chest pain, dizziness, and a fear of death. The first panic attack was isolated, but gradually they started increasing in frequency to once a day. I started out on benzodiazepines while trying to get stable on an SSRI. The benzos were good, but of course, my body was starting to become dependent on them, even at taking the smallest dose for more than 2 weeks. Propranolol was introduced to me and was a better fit since it blocks the adrenaline surge and maintains a normal heart rate, which really helps decrease my anxiety. I had to take a long time off work, but now have been back to work for the last year as of this month. My advice is to know that it's not a one size fits all thing. It takes time to find a routine that works for you to manage this beast. Exercise, yoga, sunlight, prayer, and therapy have made a difference as well."

Propranolol for Migraine Prevention "Inderal is my miracle medication - No migraine headaches, no tremors, no feelings of anxiety. It's an 'old school' drug that's been around for many years. Even my doctor uses it! It's been proven to be relatively safe. Give it a try."

For Migraine Prevention "After trying a ton of different medications and having no luck, my doctor finally decided to put me on propranolol. After trying so many meds with no luck, I didn't have much hope. I have been on this medication for 3 days now and I am ECSTATIC! I am taking 40mg twice a day (once in the morning and once at night). I used to wake up with headaches and go to bed with headaches and for these 3 days I have not had ANY pain! I usually have headaches at least 4-5 days a week and for me to wake up with no pain and go to bed with no pain feels so amazing. I didn't get any dizziness or any side effects at all so far. Although it's only been 3 days so far, I can tell it's made a huge difference already."

For Migraine Prevention "I have been on propranolol since mid-January 2013. If I remember correctly, it began working within a few weeks. I am on 80mg (can't remember if I worked up to that or not, was in rehab at the time so not everything is crystal clear) and have found that my daily headaches have pretty much completely disappeared. I read that the normal dose is between 80 and 240mg, but I obviously want to be on as little as possible, especially considering possible side effects. But 80mg works for me. Rarely I get one and ibuprofen is enough to relieve it. This medicine was truly life-changing for me. I have had chronic headaches from the age of 9! Point being, if you are considering this medication to help prevent headaches, I highly recommend you try it."

For Anxiety "I had PTSD from a psychotic break I experienced out of nowhere. I went from living a normal life to non-stop panic attacks. I was unable to work or function. The only thing I could do was pace around the house or cry in a ball on my bed. This drug saved my life. I was able to sleep, to work, to actually function like a human being again. I am so grateful for this drug."

For Anxiety "I started taking propranolol 10mg last week. For the last 10 years, I've been suffering from anxiety and depression but never asked for help as I didn't want it getting noted on my file. I was put on propranolol 10mg for my anxiety, which I thought would never go away - the overthinking, the racing heart, etc. Well, this tablet was a lifesaver (literally). My confidence has come back, I don't get anxious anymore, it really is a miracle drug. I am going to continue to take this twice a day, 10mg in the morning and 10mg at 5:00 PM. I would rate this medication 10 stars, but it makes you tired throughout the day, which sucks. Anyone with anxiety should 100% try this, it's amazing."

For Panic Disorder "My panic disorder often works this way. I will just be sitting there, and all of a sudden, I feel a surge of adrenaline. My brain starts worrying about the physical response to a surge of adrenaline, which sets up a feedback loop during which my mind accentuates the physical response, which heightens the mental fear, which worsens the physical response, and so on. Propranolol does a very good job of blunting that type of attack in my case since there is nothing going on in my head to cause panic except for what is going on in my body. It's not quite Xanax, which doctors are increasingly unwilling to prescribe, but it really does work to greatly lessen the physical component of a panic attack."

For Migraine Prevention "I had experienced stress-induced migraines from work for years... truly agonizing... Once I discovered beta-blockers, I studied them for quite a while, and over time I correlated the migraines to a surge of catecholamines resulting from stressors acting on the fight or flight response mechanism, which operates via catecholamine release in the brain. Bottom line, 20 - 40 mg a day has completely eradicated the migraines."

For Anxiety "This is only my 2nd day of taking this wonderful drug. I've had horrendous anxiety. I've been taking Xanax but it never has given me the immediate relief this medication has. Right now I'm on 20mg once a day. The doctor said we can increase after we see if it works. I would love to be able to get off the Xanax altogether and just take this. I don't feel jittery, my hands don't shake, and I feel an inner calmness. I've been taking it at night when I go to bed. For the first time in I don't know how long, I was able to sleep 6 hours straight. Usually it's only 3-4 hours, and that's with the help of a sleeping pill. So, going to give it a little while longer and ask for an increase in this medication and to be weaned off of the Xanax."

For Migraine Prevention "Years and years of pain, misery, vomiting. Sometimes I thought I was dying. Ruined my life, work life, social life. Last migraine, went to hospital emergency, had to be given morphine as I was crying for hours in pain. My doctor then prescribed propranolol. It's been the best time ever in my adult life, it's just so fab to wake up pain-free. Yes, I'm dopey tired but rather that than that evil pain... good luck to us all on this... only us migraine sufferers can experience this relief of a medicine that actually works."

For Performance Anxiety "I do a lot of public speaking and developed terrible situational performance anxiety during Covid, although I struggled on and off over the years. My primary symptoms were breathlessness and extreme sweating (literally pouring down my face and getting in my eyes). It was terrible, but something I thought I had to live with. Researched the problem and found out about propranolol and what it could do. I talked to my doctor who was happy to prescribe it. Just 10 mg an hour before and I am calm and in control again. Absolutely no sweating or breathlessness. No side effects at that low dose. I highly recommend this medication for performance anxiety."
