For Perimenopausal Symptoms "I am soon to be 49 and I was feeling so bad, hot flashes, 30 pounds of weight gain in 2 years, insomnia, foggy brain and a very large appetite, to name a few. But I saw a doctor (alternative) and he did blood work and found my testosterone was so low and my progesterone. So I now take a small dose of testosterone cream and 200 mg of natural progesterone. Can I tell you I feel like I did in my 30s. Use progesterone at night, testosterone in the morning. I have lost 12 pounds in about 40 days and it continues to fall off. Sleeping like a baby, no hot flashes and I think more clearly and my memory is awesome too. I do take a lot of supplements that work with the hormones."

Progesterone for Progesterone Insufficiency "I'm 48, and found that this nicely balanced the issues I'm having with estrogen dominance. I've had no side effects that I can tell, but a real clearing up of the fuzzy brain, night sweats, and trouble sleeping. I love it!"

For Progesterone Insufficiency "I started generic Prometrium for 10 days (for premature menopause) then stopped because I broke out with itchy red bumps on my arms and legs. And, I still got hot flashes. When I stopped taking the progesterone (200 mg at night) I started getting foggy brain again and terrible face aches and headaches. I restarted the generic Prometrium after a 5-day hiatus and after the red itchy bumps dried up. Now that I take the 200 mg again, no more head or face aches, and mild hot flashes finally disappeared. However, I continue to have vivid exhausting dreams every night that I take this. My sleep is not deep or restful. It is night after night of lucid, unwanted crazy dreams. This is an unreported side effect - I read other women experienced this, too. Also, I get tiny somewhat itchy bumps under the skin on both of my hands. I wonder if the brand name Prometrium would have these bad effects on me as well..."

For Perimenopausal Symptoms "First, I tried oral Prometrium and had an awful experience. Very drowsy the next day, extremely vivid dreams, and within two weeks, I was depressed. Switched to vaginal Prometrium, and at first, everything was fine. Then I started having panic attacks and high anxiety. I had labs drawn after I missed a few periods, my FSH was suppressed and my progesterone too high. Needless to say, I must talk to my Dr. about the dose. I never thought progesterone could make you anxious, but it has been awful for me. My progesterone levels were fine for my age in peri-menopause-now I have the progesterone levels of a woman trying to conceive! If you do need to take it, take it vaginally, not orally! The metabolites can make you feel awful, foggy, and out of it, but vaginally, no issue. Except in my case with the problems of anxiety and suppression of FSH and periods."

For Uterine Bleeding "I am 44 years old and taking AK2 generic for Prometrium for unusual uterine bleeding. The doctor put me on this to stop my irregular bleeding, but so far, after 4 days of taking it, I am still bleeding with some clots. I am supposed to take this for 12 days. He said my progesterone levels were really low, and the endometrium had built up too much in my uterus. The first time I took it, I got really dizzy and sleepy, so now I am taking it at night. I have had a bad headache on two different occasions and a fast heartbeat and definitely feel brain fog and can't think. This medicine is no fun. I had a normal cycle up until a month and a half ago, but a few months before that, I noticed a reduced cycle, so I am having low hormonal levels, I guess."
