"I was taking zofran for years for severe nausea. During a hospital stay I was given Reglan and had horrible hallucinations and my skin was crawling like some people in the reviews had with Prochlorperazine. However Zofran stopped working for me during the last bout of nausea so my doc gave me Prochlorperazine which helped tremendously and thankfully I had no side effects."

"I was given a migraine cocktail that had compazine included in it. THIS MEDICATION MADE MY SYMTOMS A MILLION TIMES WORSE! I started with my heart pounding and a severe anxious feeling immediately. I was given this med thru an IV. It literally felt like an instant panic attack. It's been 4 days now and I still am having spontaneous bouts of anxiety due to this medication. The half life is 24 hours with this med and it's been well over 96 hours since I was administered it and I'm still experiencing side effects. I also got low blood pressure which gave me cold sweats, disorientation and I was freezing. My only relief was from hot baths which made my blood pressure go up some. I also had dissociation, as if I wasn't even myself, from this medication. I can not stress enough how awful this medication is and it should NOT be used as nausea relief unless it's for EXTREME circumstances. This medication is used in people with schizophrenia! I am still not myself days after and its miserable."

"I was given Demerol & Compazine to combat migraine & experienced severe agitation. The dr recognized phenothiazine-induced akathisia & countered it with Benadryl & Ativan. Years later I was, again, treated for HA. I double-checked the dr knew I couldn't take Compazine. He ordered chlorpromazine & Valium. Unfamiliar with the generic, I didn't realize it was Thorazine (in the same class as Compazine). Another bad reaction. I pulled the IV out, fled & paced at home for 15 hours. Surely, the dr knew I'd react negatively. A couple years later back to ER for the 1st time since the Thorazine. I explained my reactions in detail. This time I was given Reglan. Again, I ripped out the IV & was headed for the door when the nurse caught me. Repeated doses of an antidote worked. I learned, subsequently, it's common to react badly to Reglan if you reacted to Compazine. Either the dr was poorly informed or simply willing to risk my well-being. I've suffered at home in silence with ever since."

"Went to the ER for a severe migraine...they gave me compazine and benadryl. 20 min later I was in a severe panic...ripping my IV's out. Calling out to the nurse saying I was leaving!! They had to give me more benadryl to reverse it. I left the hospital feeling worse than I did when I went in!! Horrible experience!"

"Had nausea from chemo and radiation and was given Zofran. Zofran did nothing to curb the nausea. I was just recently changed over to Compazine and the nausea is gone! I've not experienced any side effects whatsoever."

"I was born with chronic pancreatitis and chronic migraines so vomiting is a for sure thing every time I visit the ER. I have never in my life been traumatized by a medication until this encounter. It is like we are their lab rats, you feel helpless, insane, delusional, 51-50, a psychopath. You literally feel trapped inside your body if that makes any sense. I try to hold my composure off this medication because it literally makes you crazy. It should be illegal for them to give inject you with it without a warning on the side effects. You feel so weird for 3 days, it’s as if your innocence has been robbed from you, a form of violation."

"This was, like many others on here have said, a terrifying ER experience. I was given Compazine for what they thought was a migraine, plus benadryl because they warned me about the anxiety. Upon giving it to me via IV, I felt a wave of panic enter my body. My heart stopped for a moment. I immediately wanted to get out of the hospital and tried to rip my IV out. I thought that would be the end of it. But it wasn't. I had crippling anxiety over the next 5 days! Yes, FIVE days. I had constant panic attacks where I would have to stop driving and pull over. One time I almost fainted during a meeting and had to go to the clinic. This drug made me dizzy, lightheaded, feeling like I was going to pass out all the time, gave me the strangest head pressure/tingling feeling, heart-racing constantly. I will never ever take this drug again. Worst experience."

"I was in the hospital suffering from post lumbar puncture headache and nausea/severe vomiting. IV Zofran did nothing, IV Reglan did nothing, only the IV Compazine gave me relief. Granted as soon as it ran out I started up again, but at least it allowed me a few hours of peace to sleep."

"I wish I could give this drug 0/10 stars. This is not a drug that I would give to my worst enemy--And I have tried MANY drugs for migraines! I was given this with the migraine cocktail in the ER, which also includes benadryl & toradol. I experienced extreme anxiety and restlessness. I wanted to rip the IV out of my arm and run out of the hospital... not that I could have done this anyways because it caused me to have extrapyramidal and dystonic side effects!!!!! When I got discharged from the ER, this was the worst night of my life. My friend had to sleep over because I was freaking out. The side effects lasted for 2 days."

"I cannot believe all of these totally horrible experiences with compazine. I was given in my IV for severe nausea and I had absolutely no side effects what so ever. I have taken another one now that I am home before I went to bed, again no problems or side effects at all. Hard to believe so many people are having such severe reactions?"

"I was given compazine through the IV for nausea and vomiting while admitted. It was an absolute nightmare that still makes me feel pure fear when I think about it. I thought I was going to die. At first, my legs just felt restless which I thought I was just having some anxiety, but then it really hit. I couldn't get my body to cool down, I started vomiting, then lost control of my bowels in front of the nurses. This lasted over six hours until they finally gave me something that knocked me out until it was over. I thought I was going to die. It scared both my partner who was there and myself to the point that I am now scared to take anymore medications fearing a similar reaction. They should really warn people about this drug."

"I was talking to my sister about my bad reaction to a medication I took 15 years ago called Compazine. I took this prescribed medicine while at home. I remember my experience like it was yesterday. At first I felt a twitching in my jaws. All at once, my bottom jaw started going to the right, and my top jaw started going to the left. I could not stop it and I could not talk. In fact, my jaw felt like it was trying to break off my face. I remember the emotional and physical pain. Me and my husband were both crying, because we both didn't understand what was happening! My husband ended up taking me to another clinic, and they admitted me at once. So BEWARE! Just from talking - I found out this same medication hurt my sister just last year."

"I took this for my extreme amount of nausea causing anxiety. It did wonders for my nausea! It was wonderful and like a miracle. Until the 3rd time I took it... I had the worst experience of my life. My jaw got locked and stuck to one side, my eyes got locked looking upwards and I couldn't move them, my jaw felt as if it was trying to break itself and was so painful . I ended up sticking my finger down my throat to make myself vomit up the drug. It continued to lock my jaw up off and on for the next 48 hours. Never again. Be careful of the side effects. Worked wonders for my nausea and vomiting, but I would rather be throwing up than experiences those side effects"

"I was in the ER due to a severe migraine that couldn’t be controlled with my prescriptions that I usually take. They gave me Compazine for the nausea/vomiting. It was the most awful thing ever. I became so restless. I felt like I had to leave and go home. I couldn’t sit still, and I felt like I constantly needed to pace the room. I felt like I was going crazy, and like I was about to rip my hair out. (I didn’t.) I will avoid this medicine at all costs. I don’t even know if it helped the nausea/vomiting because it made me feel so weird."

"Do NOT use compazine!! I went to the ER for a severe migraine that lasted a week. They put me on Compazine and within just a few minutes I was shaking uncontrollably, couldn’t keep still, and had extreme anxiety like if I didn’t leave the hospital RIGHT AWAY my entire life would just go down the toilet. This was the only time I ever ripped out an IV. I called the nurse in and I could only mumble “oh god what did you do to me” over and over again. After some of these other reviews, I count myself lucky that my symptoms only lasted a single night and the migraine did go away. But still I will never take it again!"

"I am nine weeks pregnant and I went into the hospital last night with severe nausea and vomiting I hadn’t eaten anything for almost 3 days and was down 5 pounds. I was having a migraine from dehydration and they gave me IV Compazine and within four minutes I was feeling like I wanted step out of my own body, I had severe anxiety I felt like I wanted to rip out my IV and run home as fast as I could. I had this overwhelming sense of being so unbelievably uncomfortable that I couldn’t close my eyes because I was so panicky and so shaky so uncomfortable I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. I will absolutely never take this medication again it’s been almost 24 hours since that medication was given to me and I’m just now starting to feel back to my old self again needless to say I’m on Zofran now for my nausea and you couldn’t pay me to take Compazine again ."

"I was given this for migraines. I was stationed in Hampton Roads, VA doing my time in the Navy. I had a TBI in Bahrain, and was sent to Virginia for various medical treatments. I had blackouts and severe migraines that made me see spots at least 3-5 times a week. It was pure hell so I thought. I would try to tolerate it the best I could, and I began frequenting the hospital where I received this drug. It took some time to figure out which drug I was having the horrendous side effects. Portsmouth Naval issued me a "cocktail" as they called it with this drug included. Over a few experiences with various doctors I figured out this drug was the culprit. This drug made me feel like something terrible was crawling under my skin. 6 hours of hell."

"I went to the ER for stomach pains and nausea. I am allergic to so many pain medicines that there is little I can take. They gave me compazine and as they put it in my iv they told me it could cause severe anxiety in some people. Well I can tell you now, it was horrific. I have had one major panic attack in my life and this was 20 times worse. I started pulling off my clothes and ripped the iv out. They had to give me a big dose of Benedryl to "reverse" the effects. Please please think twice and consider other choices before taking this!"

"Reading the effects some folks have had brings me right back to 1993. I was 2 months pregnant with my son, who is now 23. I was vomiting so badly and was given compazine as a suppository. It worked wonders for the first 2 days. My 3rd day was a trip to HELL! I was on the phone with my mom and my words started slurring. I then started having uncontrollable muscle spasms in my face. My upper and lower jaw started moving in opposite directions so severely that I had to hold my face in place screaming in pain! My husband had to rush me to the ER in the middle of a snow storm. It was a horrific experience and I can not believe that this drug still exists! I was told that compazine is used as a component in other drugs, BEWARE!"

"I thought I had the flu so I went to the ER to get tested. It came back negative but since I had a migraine they gave me a “headache cocktail “ which my sister had a bad reaction to but I had forgotten (after all I had a migraine and couldn't think straight). I got the IV meds and one of them was Compazine.....the awful liquid itself. Immediately I had trouble getting comfortable and my throat felt like I had a shrunken airway but the doctors said it was just anxiety. So it’s 4 in the morning and I’m stumbling around the hospital waiting for my prescription and my step dad to come pick me up and I’m falling asleep any time I sit down. As soon as I got home I fell into bed and couldn’t sleep unless my legs were writhing around. Then I slept off and on for almost 20 hours. I sweated most of the medication out thank goodness but I’ve never had anything like it happen before. I was by myself and was terrified. Why is this medication even still given?!?!"

"This medication does help out a lot when you have nausea. I have taken a lot of different medications before and this is the first one in seven years that has actually worked for me. The only side effect that I get from it is being tired after taking it but it is so much better then being sick to my stomach."

"I was suffering from unexplained nausea for about a year. I tried a host of other anti-nausea medications but nothing really seemed to be helping. My doctor gave my compazine, which helped my nausea but made me exhausted by the evening and caused me to burst into tears at least once a day. I stopped taking the medication because the side effects were too much for me to handle."

"I was given compazine along with tramadol via IV at the ER to help treat a bad migraine. As soon as they put it in my IV I wanted to rip it out and leave. My mom was with me and I stayed a few more hours until my bloodwork came back. I finally got discharged and just wanted to go home and sleep but of course I couldn’t. I was jittery and shaky. I was pacing back and forth in my room. I couldn’t sit still. I can’t find the words to describe exactly what I felt but I basically felt so uncomfortable and like I was going insane at the same time. I went back and they gave me a Benadryl which did absolutely nothing. Luckily my mom had some left over lorazepam which finally gave me some relief and allowed me to sleep. It took 2 days for the worst of it to wear off but now 6 days later I still don’t feel 100% back to normal yet. I will never take this medication ever again and I hope it gets taken off the market soon. I hope no one else ever has to experience what I did."
