"Early in 2022, I was prescribed nortriptyline at 10mg daily, after years of experimenting with various other gut-calming protocols to help my IBS and food sensitivities. I first used the FODMAP structure to help my food choices (which also includes my A1 casein milk protein intolerance), and then found that the nortriptyline worked very well. I did find, however, that taking 10 mg at night disrupted my sleep, so I have since been taking it at breakfast without any side effects. This drug won’t help with food sensitivities, so I still have to be vigilant at meals at home, friends' houses, and restaurants. I still don’t fully understand the relationships, if any, between my food intolerances and IBS, and so I also take small amounts of Miralax and Citrucel at breakfast to help stabilize my gut against gas, bloating, and constipation. All this is not perfect, but I’ve been able to reduce the number of “lost days.”"

"Before this medicine my IBS was crippling. I could not eat without being in pain and could not sleep. I was up every night sick for 2 months straight. After my GI doctor gave me this medication my symptoms went away after about 3 weeks. Now I could not imagine my life without it! (2 years now)"

"3 weeks in. No more diarrhea. Can eat more FODMAPs. Afraid of tolerance buildup in the future."

"I found this has helped almost from the start. I'd had no treatment for my IBS until my new GP recommended 10mg at night. Mind you, she also said it's useless as an antidepressant lol"
