For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "I don’t normally write reviews, but I wanted to share a positive experience with AREDS 2 that my mom and I both had. My mom was first prescribed AREDS 2 by her optometrist after her cataract surgery at the age of 75. She had no issues or side effects from this vitamin supplement. After her follow-up appointment with her eye doctor and the positive benefits it was doing for her eye condition, I also started taking them at the age of 45. I have been taking them now for 8 years, and through laser surgery, my doctor was impressed with how fast my eyes healed. I haven’t had any reactions or side effects from this vitamin supplement either, and I believe it has also helped in keeping my eyes moist and from drying out. My review is to say that AREDS 2 has helped and worked as described benefits for our family, and we have been very fortunate not to have had any of the allergic reactions that have been noted and discussed in the previous reviews and warnings."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "After about a month of taking AREDS 2, I began getting sudden strong nausea. I reduced to 1 a day and began taking it with food, but nausea persists. I have to immediately eat rice cakes after to get rid of the nausea. They have zinc oxide: 'Nausea and vomiting are commonly reported side effects of zinc toxicity.'"

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "Took one pill - headache, mild night sweats, and probably upset stomach. Trashed 138 soft gels. I found this site while trying to find information on this pill and any side effects it may have on the kidneys."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "Macular degeneration runs in my family, but I don’t have it. But I bought AREDS 2 by Bausch and Lomb. Anyway, it makes me sick or ill in my stomach. I also sent it to my 92-year-old sister who has MD, and it made her ill also. What do you think? Rita."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "My doctor advised that I had the very early signs of macular degeneration and suggested AREDS 2 (one per day in the morning). A week later, I had a terrible dizzy spell. Thought maybe it was just from the heat. However, two days later, I was sitting in the house and had another terrible dizzy spell. The only thing I could contribute it to was AREDS 2. Stopped taking them and have not had any additional dizziness. I have since talked to others who have taken this drug, and they advised they stopped taking it due to various issues they experienced."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "Bought this product 8-11-2022 at Costco store, was suggested by their pharmacist. Since I was diagnosed, I have cataracts in both eyes. Go home same day, take 2 pills as it suggested after my meal, threw up about 20 minutes later. 8-12-2022, only ate cereal, after that took 2 pills as it suggested, threw up about 20 minutes later. 8-13-2022, only ate steamed rice, after that took 2 pills as it suggested, threw up about 20 minutes later. Today, 8-14-2022, I’m going to stop taking this PreserVision AREDS 2. This product, to me, is like food poison, it made my stomach upset and made me nauseous and threw up. Not good. Will take the bottle back to Costco and get my money back."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "I’m 65 and thought this would be good insurance for keeping my eyes healthy. I still have 20/20 vision after seeing the optometrist last month, and thankfully no eyesight problems. However, my mom and I also think my grandmother were both diagnosed with macular degeneration. What a mistake! Less than 30 minutes after taking one of these capsules, I had awful abdominal pains and felt sick to my stomach! I am just going to throw them away … Not going to risk ruining another afternoon feeling this badly! Surprised that an OTC vitamin like this would cause such serious side effects."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "From the first dose, I experienced extreme nausea and vomited. From the reviews I see on this site, many others have had similar experiences. I will not continue with AREDS 2 but will search for another drug that could help delay the progress of macular degeneration."

"Beginning macular degeneration, advised by my doctor to use PreserVision. After only one pill, experienced severe epigastric pain that lasted 2 days. Also, nausea, lethargy, and generalized malaise. Won't take this again."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "I was taking this for macular degeneration. I take it with meals and get nausea and bloating. I take it without food, and I get the same. I take other meds, and I separated the pill taking, still nausea. Where do I go to take these supplements for a serious illness? Ask the doctor for an anti-nausea medication that I would have to take twice a day?"

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "Preservision AREDS2 was prescribed by my ophthalmologist about 23 months ago, 2 times each day. I found that I needed to take them with food as they upset my stomach. Now I have begun having severe diarrhea, running to the bathroom. I won't continue taking these. I already have a problem losing weight and feel this med may be to blame."

"Why are there toxic fillers in this supplement? And not one but a few! Very sad that I can hardly find pure ingredients in supplements. This was recommended by my ophthalmologist. I’m glad I read others' experiences with it. I’m not surprised! Why do we need so much (carmine) coloring on a pill? Titanium dioxide? And it’s expensive too!"

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "I took AREDS 2 Plus Multivitamin for a couple of years with no problem. Now they no longer sell it with the multi included, so I am taking the plain AREDS 2 formula. It causes me an upset stomach, and the other version caused no problem. I know AREDS 2 is the gold standard, but I am going to look elsewhere for similar vitamins. I have been on this version for 1 week."

"Eye doctor wanted me to start taking these as a precaution against macular degeneration occurring in the future. He had me take another brand last year, which I threw out after two days due to nausea and sweating. Tried this brand for two days, once a day with food. The first day, I developed diarrhea, which I didn't associate with the pill. The second day, I had nausea, diarrhea, stomach cramps, lethargy, and weakness. This stuff is horrible and once again, threw out the bottle. I have been doing research for natural ways to help protect against eye problems, and there are many sound recommendations for the Mediterranean diet, which I will try."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "I am so happy I found this thread. My eye doctor recommended I take PreserVision 2 for preliminary macular degeneration. I have had the worst hot flashes, like I was going to faint on numerous occasions. I'm 68, and it's not menopause. I thought, what have I changed in the past month, and these vitamins are the only thing. Quitting these immediately and will get my vitamins through healthy eating. Do NOT recommend."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "I take one AREDS 2 chewable along with a multivitamin, D3, C, and collagen all together with food each day. Never had any side effects or issues. I take them as a precaution-no major issues with my eyes. I recommend the chewable for people with stomach issues and take with food."

"I took this for age-related eye disease. I started getting side effects after about 6 weeks. After doing research online, I found that high doses of vitamin C and E (in the AREDS 2) can cause stomach issues, night sweats, and nose bleeds. The high doses of vitamin E deplete your vitamin K, thus causing bleeding. The National Eye Institute, in one of their articles on AREDS 2, says do not take AREDS 2 if you already consume a lot of green leafy vegetables. The NEI did not offer an alternative."
