For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "Eye doctor told my 83-year-old mom to take 2 PreserVision AREDS 2 a day. Took 1 in the morning and 1 at nighttime. Woke up throwing up and experiencing hot vapors and hot flashes. Called an ambulance, thinking she was having a stroke. Paramedics took her vitals. Her blood pressure had skyrocketed. They lowered her blood pressure with her meds and nausea and dizziness persisted for a few more hours. The only new medication she had taken was this AREDS 2. We read the side effects, and sure enough, she had all of them. Very scary - she will not be taking them again."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "Eye doctor suggested taking 2x/day with meals, saying I had the start of Macular Degeneration. At first, I didn't associate the reflux, stomach upset, blurred vision, difficulty focusing on vision, and increased eye fatigue that I was experiencing. I decreased to 1x/day. Not much better. I skipped a day or two and didn't experience the increased blurred vision, upset stomach & reflux. By the way, on a recent blood test, they erroneously tested Vitamin E - which is in PreserVision AREDS 2 - the result was off the charts, way beyond the maximum range. I questioned the eye doctor if the level is too high; he had no comment on it. I've read that doses greater than 400 units/day can cause blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, unusual tiredness, or weakness. Excess Vitamin E supplements can cause an increased risk of bleeding in the brain (hemorrhagic stroke) -- A waste of good money, I think."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "Horrible nausea and severe vomiting with sweating and passing out feeling. Could not figure out why. Then I realized it could be the PreserVision AREDS 2 that I was taking. I stopped taking it and the nausea, vomiting, and dizziness were gone. Never again."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "I took these vitamins for about a week and experienced ongoing dizziness. Since I bought two bottles, I tried to take them again and was unsuccessful, more dizziness. I switched to Walmart brand, and there has been no dizziness, however, sometimes I get headaches, fatigue, and have gained some weight after taking them for about a year. Then I decided that because the AREDS2 study mentioned that the body only absorbs 25 mg of zinc from these daily pills, I purchased another brand that sells its formula exactly as the PreserVision one except for the zinc, only 25 mg per day. Feeling much better. Also, need to watch my sugar intake, it seems to be much worse since I’ve been taking these vitamins."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "After reading through these accounts of AREDS 2 side effects, I am starting to wonder whether my frequent headaches, occasional bad constipation, dizzy spells, and a recent diagnosis of low blood pressure (90/49) after three months on AREDS 2 for macular degeneration might be related. It never occurred to me until I read this chat box. I am curious to know if anyone else has experienced a significant drop in their blood pressure due to AREDS 2. Before switching to the new AREDS 2, I was using AREDS with lutein, which had stabilized my macular degeneration without any complications."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "My doctor advised that I had the very early signs of macular degeneration and suggested AREDS 2 (one per day in the morning). A week later, I had a terrible dizzy spell. Thought maybe it was just from the heat. However, two days later, I was sitting in the house and had another terrible dizzy spell. The only thing I could contribute it to was AREDS 2. Stopped taking them and have not had any additional dizziness. I have since talked to others who have taken this drug, and they advised they stopped taking it due to various issues they experienced."

For Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation and Deficiency "I do not recommend. I threw away 2 bottles that I stocked up from Costco. Makes me nauseous and dizzy. The zinc dosage is too high: 40 mg + 40 mg per day!"
