For Trichomoniasis "I was prescribed Flagyl 500 mg for trich and BV to be taken twice a day for 7 days. All I have to say is thank God I'm on my last day with this med. I've had horrible side effects, like constant headache, nausea, tiredness, loss of appetite, and it feels like I've been hit by a car. On the bright side, though, I no longer have a discharge or odor whatsoever. I definitely learned my lesson about having unprotected sex, that's for sure! Well, good luck on this med, it does work!"

For Dental Abscess "Worked wonders for my dental abscess. Midway through my A-levels, a wisdom tooth in my lower left side of mouth decided to come through, causing severe pain and subsequent pericoronitis. Dentist prescribed me three 400mg pills for a total of 5 days. He warned me of side effects that could negatively affect my performance in exams. The metronidazole was extremely effective in reducing the pain - paracetamol simply wasn't effective enough. It also reduced my massively swollen cheek within 2 days - the metronidazole rapidly cured my abscess and I feel no pain anymore. I did experience some side effects - my chest felt tight, I felt slightly dizzy and uncoordinated most of the time, it was harder to think deeply, and I had a reduced appetite. I was anticipating the worst after I read all these negative reviews, but in my personal experience, the drug was extremely effective, and I would recommend it to anyone."

For Trichomoniasis "So I want to know if anybody else has symptoms of body aches and loss of appetite after taking this antibiotic. I was diagnosed with trichomoniasis and was given four pills at the doctor. After a day, I started having joint pain, couldn't eat, and I feel very fatigued, my body hurts. I just want my normal self back. The infection, I think it's gone, I don't see any abnormal discharge anymore, but this whole experience makes me not want to have sex ever again. I am traumatized. Please, everybody out there reading this, let's protect ourselves from getting infections like this, it's not worth our health. I just hope this pain I'm having goes away, it hurts so bad."

For Bacterial Infection "Within a couple days of taking Metronidazole, the infection cleared up, in that aspect, I feel 100% better! But the symptoms of the antibiotics are terrible. My entire body aches, I feel exhausted, my toes and fingers are tingling, I have no appetite, I have to force myself to eat something in order to take the medicine, bad diarrhea. I have a couple more days of this, and I can't wait to be done!"

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I'm only on day 3 of meds, dose is 2 x a day for the week. Must say I see an improvement already! I've had BV for months and no prescription helped. I've tried things for my flora, pH, baths, alkaline water, vitamin C, you name it. 3 days in, and I'm already happier. No odor, no discharge, finally!!! Relief from this awful embarrassment. Yes, the pill can taste bad, however, I take a sip of milk BEFORE and after taking the dose. Hadn't the 1st time, and it tastes awful, yes, but the milk coats your throat nicely, and I haven't tasted it since doing that. As for side effects, I definitely have a suppressed appetite, but I'm not complaining. The benefits of taking the Flagyl much outweigh any negative I can see."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "On second therapy after initial 14-day antibiotic treatment failed to rid of H. pylori. First time 140 pills, now a combination of antibiotics totaling 260 pills in 14 days. I am on a PPI, metronidazole, tetracycline, and Pepto. After taking my 3rd of 4 doses of Metron, my head starts pounding. I drink 8 oz of water for each of the 8 antibiotics daily, plus whatever extra I take from the PPI and regular water consumption outside of the antibiotics. I don’t drink, smoke, or consume caffeine, so it’s none of those. I have been a model prescription medicine taker and followed the instructions to a T. Anything after noon, when I take my third dose of this medication, is downhill. I basically become a vegetable. I’m on day 4, I don’t remember what side effects I had last treatment, but I do remember by the end of it I was ready to throw in the towel and lock myself in a closet to cry my eyes out. Side effects: irritability, fatigue, nausea, headaches, loss of appetite, moody."

For Diverticulitis "If I could give a neg 100, I would. I hate this drug. Horrible side effects, I'm still dizzy and have brain fog after 3 months. I had a severe headache, vomiting, severe anxiety, horrible brain fog, fatigue, no appetite. I still have anxiety! Cipro or any fluoroquinolone is usually prescribed with this. I have to say shame on all the doctors who give any fluoroquinolone out since Bayer themselves and the FDA sent out warning letters. The FDA safety review found that both oral and injectable fluoroquinolones are associated with disabling side effects involving tendons, muscles, joints, nerves, and the central nervous system. These side effects can occur hours to weeks after exposure to fluoroquinolones and may potentially be permanent."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I am currently taking this antibiotic, I am on day five. I honestly can't wait until it is over. I am an athlete in college, and I can say that ever since taking this, it has affected my performance. I also wish I would have started this earlier because it has me extremely tired and fatigued, and this is FINALS week. I get constant headaches, an awful taste left in my mouth all day, and I don't really have much of an appetite either. I've also been having horrible abdominal pain that sometimes isn't tolerable. I really do hate the side effects, but I will go through this if it will make me better. The discharge as well as the foul smell has gone away, which is what motivates me to keep taking this. I have only two more days to go. Wish me luck!!"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I was prescribed metronidazole, doxycycline, Prilosec, and bismuth for two weeks to treat H. pylori. My side effects include headaches, cramps, upset stomach, tingling sensation, fogginess, fatigue, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and an awfully bad metallic taste. I can't concentrate on anything, my stool is pitch black, and I feel depressed. Metronidazole is very hard to swallow, it is very bitter and wreaks havoc on my stomach. For all the trouble I went through, I hope H. pylori is eradicated from my system."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Metronidazole causes me to have headaches, a bloated stomach with cramps (sometimes severe), and a heavy feeling. Prescribed for H. pylori treatment for 10 days along with clarithromycin. It also causes a lack of appetite. When taking this medicine, it will taste bad and leave a bad taste in your mouth and throat for a few hours. I find drinking a hot beverage like cocoa or low-acid coffee after taking it has helped relieve the bad taste but doesn't get rid of it completely. For manufacturers: manufacturers should really consider making this as a hard caplet. Maybe even adding a flavor enhancer. In its current form, it almost immediately starts dissolving before being swallowed with a disgusting salty taste."

For Diverticulitis "The pain of diverticulitis was like labor contractions, with a whale trying to push its way out through the left side of my abdomen. The morphine in my IV worked after the CT scan dye, but the antibiotic combo is like the saga continues: nausea, gurgling in the stomach, loss of appetite, and what you do intake shoots out with a vengeance. I have all-day mush movements; I'm pooping out last year's Thanksgiving dinner. Now, my hemorrhoids itch and burn so much."

Metronidazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "The reviews I saw for this drug scared the hell out of me. I was dealing with stomach issues for months before finally going to the doctor for it. I had every symptom of H. pylori, and a blood test confirmed it. I started out with clarithromycin, and I had an awful experience, I had every single side effect. I switched to Flagyl. I had a 14-day treatment with one pill every 8 hours. I'm 19 and weighed 115. After the medicine, I now weigh 108 but feel better than I ever have before. YOU NEED THIS!! The treatment is not as bad as everyone says. Remember to take probiotics. The first week was great, the only side effects I had were loss of appetite, diarrhea, and my urine was a much darker color. I never had a bad metallic taste, but my tongue felt coated, like something was constantly at the back of my throat. Eating and drinking helped with that. My GI doctor prescribed me Protonix, Zofran, and Levsin before the treatment, which seemed to really help while also taking the antibiotics."

Metronidazole for Clostridioides difficile Infection "Took 500 mg 3 times per day for 14 days to treat a C. diff infection. Within the 1st week, the side effects kicked in. Horrible taste in my mouth 24/7, then followed by constant nausea and loss of appetite. I was so nauseous by the end that I couldn't get off the couch. Took it with meals, and I haven't had an alcoholic drink in 3 years. Chewed gum all the time to deal with the taste. Horrible side effects, but very effective. Was feeling normal again within a few days of starting it."

For Bacterial Infection "Oh my goodness, this medicine is hard work. I feel like a pregnant woman. My body goes through all kinds of changes, mentally and physically. The nausea, increased hunger or no appetite, dry and metal taste in my mouth. Sore body, and all I want to do is lay down, but taking this medicine and waking up from a nap will make you feel drowsy and sleep deprived. I feel so weak taking this, no matter how much I keep myself hydrated."

Metronidazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "The side effects from Flagyl have been worse than my original symptoms of H. pylori. Explosive diarrhea, bloating, loss of appetite, urgency, and general discomfort. I have two days left of a 10-day, 3 times a day cycle. I cannot wait for it to be over. Don't take this stuff unless you have to. It has been hard."

For Bacterial Infection "My last day on metronidazole, hooray. Am so glad I found this thread. I have felt horrible for the whole week. Took it for bacterial vaginitis, given by my OB-GYN. First two days were okay. Then had really bad diarrhea and rumbling sensations in my tummy. No appetite, dizzy, felt so sick after taking it, no appetite, and my urine was brown. I didn't want to stop the course, though, because it cleared up my infection. I just wish we were told of the side effects."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "I went to the ER with abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, and feeling sick. I was diagnosed with diverticulitis and was prescribed Flagyl, Bactrim, and Tramadol, none of which I have taken before. Gag! That's all I've been doing since taking the antibiotics, that and the hot and cold sweats, and feeling terrible. The worst is the Tramadol, which after the third dose I will not take another. I felt terrible anxiety and googled that drug and found that is a side effect in some people. I'm sipping chamomile tea to try to help the gagging with little relief, but I am taking in fluids. I have no appetite, food makes me gag when I look at it. It was good to read others' comments that this is expected with the antibiotics. This is day 2, I have 5 more to go."

For Diverticulitis "After a month of pain that I could not bear. I had to go to the ER, where I was diagnosed with diverticulitis. I was on moxifloxacin and Tylenol. I had to schedule a colonoscopy, which shows nothing. I was revisited by the left-side lower pain. Had to get Cipro and Flagyl. No fever but reduced appetite. I am on, but as stated by all, the metallic taste and feeling of weakness and sluggishness. My second day on medication will update as time goes on."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "There are worse things than death. This is one of them. I am NEVER sick. Epitome of good health. Took clindamycin for tooth infection. Contracted C. diff. Horrible. This medication is like chemo. On my 5th day of 14 of 3 500 mg pills per day. 20 times a day to the restroom has subsided. Side effects are excruciating. Weak, headaches, fever, metallic taste, no appetite, cramps, bloated, dark urine, lethargy, depressed, etc. There has to be a better way. I am so tired of this. Week 3 of my summer ruined and gone. Big Pharma should try the drugs on management instead of the innocent animals that have died."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I took this for BV along with an oral medication for a mild yeast infection. I wasn't even having symptoms for the BV, just found out with an annual PAP, but the side effects are brutal. By day 2, headaches and dizziness. Day 3-5, extreme fatigue, weakness, major head fog, loss of appetite, and though I already suffer from depression and anxiety, this medication seemed to make it so much worse. Seeing as though I didn't experience symptoms for the BV in the first place, I'm not sure if the medication is worth the side effects. I would ask for a better option."

Metronidazole for Clostridioides difficile Infection "Absolutely awful side effects. First, the dark urine color (not really a problem, but bizarre), then the fatigue, the nausea, the total loss of appetite. I was on this for 10 days for a C. diff infection (caused by clindamycin... AVOID CLINDAMYCIN), and I lost ten pounds. I had to force food down my throat just so I wouldn't wither away, and I could barely get out of bed. Took care of the worst of the C. diff, but not all of it. I still have a C. diff culture in my gut 6 months later."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I went on a holiday to Thailand and developed a bloated stomach with wind and later diarrhea. The doctor prescribed Flagyl to kill any bugs in the intestine. We know that in these countries it is rather easy to get a bug from foods. After many trips, I finally got a Bangkok belly. After taking 400 mg three times a day, I felt some relief the next day. Felt good. Then the next day, I woke up feeling terrible. I had sneezing, a runny nose, a feeling of tightness in the nose (harder to breathe), asthma, dry lips, rashes on the hands, body aches, lack of appetite, feeling lethargic and tired, along with wind in the stomach and slight nausea. Diarrhea was almost gone. Most side effects were happening to me on the fourth day."

Nauseous is insane, literally all day. Metal mouth after every single pill. Didn’t experience much with the loss of appetite. Diarrhea and bloating also sucked. Hope this pill works!"

After 4 days of taking it, I had sweats, abdominal pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and felt very nauseous. These symptoms will go at the end, so persevere with it! If you start to have any sporadic body movements, then seek emergency help."
