Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "This medication MetroGel-vag worked better than I expected, based on some other reviews. The smell was gone by day 3 of the 5-day treatment. I am about 2 weeks post-treatment and am BV free. I avoided using it for a month or so due to the side effect horror stories (vomiting, headache, pain, yeast infection, etc.). However, I had nearly 0 effects. The only side effects I experienced were discharge and cramping similar to period cramps, which was worth it to me to get rid of the embarrassing BV symptoms."

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "When I use MetroGel, I don't have to worry about bacterial vaginitis coming back easily. It helps faster, and it's very effective. When I take the oral medicines, bacterial vaginitis recurs within weeks. That can be a major pain. The only bummer is the yeast infection that can sometimes occur."

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "I have suffered from reoccurring BV for a few months now. The metronidazole gel never works and almost always causes a yeast infection. I don’t know if I’m mad at my doctor for continuing to prescribe it or at me for using it again. I plan to use alternative methods from now on. I’m fed up. Don’t know how this is the only medication they prescribe for every vagina in existence. Good luck to whomever is having issues."

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "I got BV from stupidly using body wash in the nether regions, completely regret it! I’ve never used antibiotics, but my doctor gave me MetroGel. So far, no irritation, and the smell is gone completely. Currently, I am experiencing discharge, but no cramping so far. The only thing I fear is that I may get a yeast infection, but hopes are high."

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "I've had BV off and on for almost 2 years now. I would use Cleocin gel when it would come back, but I think my body just got immune to it, so about two weeks ago I tried MetroGel. It went away but did give me a yeast infection. I used Monistat one day and boom, the BV came back. So I'm trying the MetroGel again, but just for a longer period of time in hopes it does the job this time. Doesn't give me any side effects, which is something I stressed before taking it."

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "Dealt with recurrent infection (BV and yeast) for two years. I am currently reading through comments on many people's negative experiences with Metro and also wondering if others are having the same issue. Randomly, in my early 20s, I started to have issues with recurrent infection. I am sexually active, but I cut every potential issue out to stop these infections, yet still had the same issue. The first time having BV, I was prescribed Metro (oral), which in turn gave me a yeast infection (because antibiotics do that). I have tried every possible cure for recurrent infection, and boric acid suppositories have been the only things that work for me. My doctor put me on long-term treatment after my sixth time getting BV in the past two years, where I took oral Metro, followed by 30 days of boric acid and six months of Metro gel (I am on my first month of the gel)."

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "I've been getting bacterial infections on and off for about 10 years, have always taken the metronidazole pills, and they give me a bad taste in my mouth, so this time I wanted to try the vaginal gel! Did not work at all! Plus, it gave me a yeast infection! Now having to redo treatment with pills! FML!"

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "When I was diagnosed with BV, I was initially given a script for this medication in pill form for 7 days. I ended up back at the doctor a week later with persistent symptoms. Another swab was tested, and I was still positive for BV. I was then started on the gel. Symptoms of BV cleared within a few days, which was great. I had pelvic discomfort, felt pretty tired, and had a little bit of discharge with blood one day. I also now have a yeast infection, which is the most common side effect. Overall, I would say the gel works more effectively at treating BV symptoms than the pill, but the side effects aren’t the best."

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "Do not use this gel, three days in and I now have a yeast infection and the most painful bumps around my vulva. I’ve stopped the treatment; can’t believe this stuff was approved with so many side effects."

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "I was diagnosed with BV. I seem to get it every 2 years, but now I'm getting symptoms. I was treated in October for BV with this gel. It is really gross. Because you're inserting gel, that all comes out at some point. Which is the worst. Having all that stuff between your legs when you're trying to go through your day. Well, I finished that, to immediately get a yeast infection. Which they don't tell you. But 9x out of 10, you get a yeast infection. So I treated that. To only still have BV when I went to my annual in December. Looks like I'll be doing this again.... At this point, I feel like it's a whole lot of suffering for nothing."

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "Originally I was prescribed 0.75% gel for 5 days nightly. My bacterial vaginosis did not go away. I was prescribed another 0.75% gel for 5 days. The infection was gone but I got a yeast infection. I was prescribed Diflucan. It has been 45 days and I still have a yeast infection. This medication works, but it destroyed my vaginal flora. Anytime I take this, my vaginal flora is completely destroyed for 60 days easily. If you can handle that possibility, go ahead and take it. I prefer using boric acid, vitamin C, and zinc."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I tried the Metro gel for the first time for bacterial vaginosis. I have always used antibiotic pills before. Using yogurt and probiotics, I have never had a yeast infection after antibiotics...until using the Metro gel. I have never had a yeast infection so bad that yeast clumps were falling out...until using the Metro gel. The yeast infection began before I was even done with the Metro gel. There was NO yeast present before the Metro gel. A culture was run at the lab before starting any treatment, and that is how the BV was diagnosed. YI did not show at all on the lab result! I will NEVER use the Metro gel again unless I am given Diflucan (spelling?) pills to take through the gel treatment to prevent the yeast infection."

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "Ouchhhh. I was prescribed this for BV. I put the gel in and immediately had cramping similar to a period and a little burning. After the second night, I woke up and the outside of my vagina was raw and it itched. It gave me a yeast infection. I stopped using it. I refuse to use this ever again. Seems like it made it worse."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Update! Culture came back negative again, so I am being treated correctly. This is my 5th day on the gel, and so far, so good. No side effects - I haven't experienced any of the 'cottage cheese' like discharge that others have talked about, which I'm thankful for because it doesn't sound pleasant. However, you will get a yeast infection on this medicine! But it works, don't be scared!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I started using the gel because the pills didn't clear up the infection. Everything was going good at first. I finally regained my confidence after having to walk around with that horrible smell lingering. After about the third day, I noticed thick discharge. I continued to use the product throughout my five days, and on the sixth day, I noticed more of the white thick discharge. So I googled side effects, and I noticed my side effect was a yeast infection! But a horrible one. I bought a Monistat to attempt to clear it up, and it only got worse! And I'm out of $120!"

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "I get recurring BV and yeast. I use MetroGel for BV, and that gives me yeast EVERY time. It takes months to treat my yeast infection because I don’t respond well to any yeast meds. It’s a nightmare. BV, yeast, BV, yeast for years. I am fit and healthy otherwise. It’s just miserable living like this. The gel sucks."

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "I love this medicine for bacterial vaginitis. It works well, and I never have side effects. However, I almost always get a yeast infection afterwards, so I have my doctor prescribe Diflucan as well."

Metronidazole topical for Bacterial Vaginosis "I wanted to share my positive experience with MetroGel. I had read many scary reviews and was terrified to use. My Gyno noticed I had BV during my annual Pap last week. I did not have any symptoms, and she said it is very common, not sexually related. She prescribed MetroGel once a day each night before bed for 5 days. She said to refrain from sex while using, but that drinking alcohol would be fine. There was a bit of the cottage cheese discharge starting on day 3 and has continued through today (36 hours after my final use). I drank wine on my 4th and 5th day and had ZERO side effects. I have not noticed a yeast infection. I did take a generic probiotic each morning to increase the good bacteria since antibiotics flush out all bacteria. I understand that everyone is different, but the doctor said that the gel will not affect you negatively and she was right. Very easy to insert, similar to a thin tampon, and gel did not come out. Would use again if necessary."
