Mepolizumab for Asthma "Until I started taking Nucala, my asthma was mostly out of control. Now, in combination with daily high-dose corticosteroids, I feel like I have a new set of lungs and have gotten rid of the elephant that used to feel like it was standing on my chest."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "I have a history of asthma. In 2017, I was exposed to black mold. My asthma went into overdrive. I coughed nonstop for 2 years. No medications helped stop the cough. I started Nucala in June 2020. My cough was gone in about 2 months. It has been wonderful to have my life back. But since I started using Nucala, I have developed inflammatory arthritis. It's horrible and very painful. I did not associate it with Nucala until I read the reviews. I am worried that if I stop Nucala, will my asthma symptoms come back? Is it actually causing my arthritis to go into overdrive? I plan to ask my doctor about stopping Nucala to see if it might stop increasing arthritis."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "Nucala works as intended, keeping me from very bad exacerbations. Side effects are a bit tough for me, as I feel tired and experience flu-like symptoms. I tend to get more chest infections, like 6 a year vs. 1 a year. Maybe it's the medicine interaction in my lungs causing more sensitivity to the cold. I guess that's better than the alternative emergency room visit due to severe asthma."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "I have just started Nucala after being on Fasenra for a year (to which I suffered severe side effects), just like what is mentioned in other reviews about Nucala. After reading many reviews, I'm not sure about this drug. I had some fatigue and body aches after the first injection, but not really bad. So I will wait until the next injection to see how it affects me. Hopefully better than the Fasenra."

Mepolizumab for Asthma, Maintenance "I have only been using Nucala for 4 months, but the improvement has been incredible. My breathing has been so much better. I no longer need prednisone, and I have reduced my inhaler use immensely. Side effects on occasion are some mild back and joint pain."

Mepolizumab for Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis "I have Churg-Strauss and have been hospitalized three times before being diagnosed. This drug has saved my life, if only not having to take prednisone. Dosage I have taken for almost three years is 300 ml every 28 days, with no negative side effects. Blood tests reveal no eosinophils at the end of four weeks, and I always feel much better after the injections. Sometimes I get tired after the injections, but I don’t consider it a negative."

Mepolizumab for Chronic Rhinosinusitis With Nasal Polyps "I have suffered with sinusitis and nasal polyps for many years, and diagnosed with mild asthma (in my late 60s). Have had no sense of smell for 10 years. After 3 sinus surgeries, I was approved for Nucala 16 months ago. Within 2 weeks, my sinuses were clear, asthma improved, and sense of smell slowly returning. Now, I only use my asthma puffer once a week (previously twice daily) and sinuses so good I can easily breathe through my nose. And now I have full sense of smell after 10 years. The only side effect is I get tired, but part of that could be age as I am in my 70s, still working and quite active. Nucala has definitely worked for me - hope to still be having the same result for a few more years."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "I have adult eosinophilic asthma. Never had asthma as a kid. After receiving my first injection of Nucala, 2 weeks later I had an anaphylactic shock, but I was told it wasn't the Nucala. Had injection #2, and 1 week later, and again a little over two weeks, had 2 anaphylactic shocks, but according to the doctors it wasn't the Nucala. After my third injection, I was fine, no side effects. 4 weeks later I received my 4th shot, I had an anaphylactic shock 7 hours later and was hospitalized and intubated. After I pulled through, I quit taking Nucala. I was eventually charged 11 thousand dollars for refusing to take the 6th dose. Gotta love the VA health care system. Nucala works for some, and I'm glad it can give those who respond well the relief they deserve. Just didn't work for me."

Mepolizumab for Hypereosinophilic Syndrome "Nucala has definitely regulated my eosinophils. However, my asthma was still causing me discomfort. I ended up having to take Tezpire as well. My joint pain and back pain have been miserable. My strength and endurance are all but gone. I may have to change careers. Not sure what to do."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "I started with Nucala, and it worked for 2 months. I'm on my 6th month and I've noticed it stopped working. Also, 2 weeks before I'm due for another injection, my body feels it. It will work for like a week, and then I'm back to steroids and breathing treatments. Kinda feel like giving up. I don't know if I have to be on it longer or not. No one answers me."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "I have found it great for breathing, but I developed huge blisters on my feet, and now I have an ear problem for over 4 weeks. No one can help me, as we don't know if it is due to this drug, which I believe it is, as nothing has cured it."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "Took Nucala, had nausea the first day, and diarrhea every day since, and my throat is very dry. I didn't feel like that the first time I took this, but now I am taking the auto injector. The symptoms didn't start right away, took about two hours. After, I am going to the bathroom like I have a virus. This is weird."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "Did my fourth monthly injection, and about 12 hours afterward, developed a burning, itching rash with raised welts at the injection site. This never happened before, so I took Benadryl and have been icing it. Nucala worked amazingly the first month, and I felt like I got my life back, but it has not been controlling my severe eosinophilic asthma since. It's been a slow decline from day one. This injection site reaction is very concerning."

Mepolizumab for Asthma, Maintenance "I have had severe asthma for most of my adult life. Despite oral and inhaled steroids, my asthma was poorly controlled. Three years ago, I began treatment with Nucala, and my condition has improved significantly. After the first dose, an improvement occurred, and now my health is much better than it was seven years ago when, due to ill health, I was forced to take medical retirement. This drug has worked so well for me, and I'm so grateful to be given it."

Mepolizumab for Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis "I've been on Nucala for almost a year now. I did initially notice fatigue and hair loss, but my doctor didn't seem to think it was related and was more due to work stress, however, that has all passed now. I will say that I went from uncontrollable coughing and being unable to breathe after doing minor things (like walking), and now I am inhaler-free! Overall, I have had a good experience so far."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "I have been on Nucala for 1 year. It has helped my asthma. I am having pain all over my body, mostly upper back, and I am losing my hair. Not sure I can stay on this med. My Dr. has suggested going off Nucala and see what happens. I can't take the pain."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "I have been using Nucala for 18 months now, and it has genuinely been transformational for me. My asthma was gradually getting worse, and I was using four different inhalers, plus Montelukast and an antihistamine to control the grip that asthma had on me. I had big improvements within weeks of taking Nucala, and my asthma scores each month are now usually all zeros. Where I used to struggle to get to the top floor of my townhouse, I’m now able to regularly visit the gym and have got my running up to 3k without rest, aiming for 5k, and it’s my tired legs holding me back, not my breathing. I don’t think this automatically works for everyone, I was lucky it worked for me, but there are other biologics if this one fails for you."

Mepolizumab "I’ve only had 1 dose of Nucala, and it made me feel lightheaded and made my blood pressure drop to 91/60. I still had to stay on the steroids during my relapse, but I’m still hopeful. The plan is to complete, not be off of the steroids and have my CEP in remission. If you also have Chronic Eosinophilic Pneumonia, I would love to compare stories since we are so rare."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "I have had 5 injections for asthma. I think it helped, but the back pain, chest pain, itchy torso, itching scalp are unbearable at times. In addition, I developed a urinary tract infection and diverticulitis. GI doctor says the chest pain may be esophageal. I have had chest x-ray, chest scan, heart CT scan - all show nothing unusual. But I don't know what I will do when asthma symptoms recur because the pain is hard to live with every day."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "No issues in the injection area. Nothing immediate or that day of the shot. Headaches, but not until the next day or two. It may not be related to Nucala. I've had the 3rd shot now, and I feel a little nausea, but it's been two days."

For Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis "Went on multiple bouts of prednisone, and at one point, I was on it for a year and a half. My eosinophil count on the blood test was in the low 20s, it’s not supposed to be higher than 7. So Dr. F first started me on Mepolizumab shots in 2016. I’ve been on them ever since. I take a whole host of other medications and inhalers as well (I was told I’m on the maximum number of meds I can safely be on). I self-administer the shot in my stomach, alternating left side and right side each time, every 28 days. The doctor who originally started me on this shot said I couldn’t be on it for too long a period of time. It has been approximately 8 years now. That doctor no longer works at the VA I go to, so I have a new Pulmonologist. He wants to start peeling off certain breathing meds, which I’ll do next visit. When I’ve missed a shot, my breathing goes downhill, so I know it’s working."

Mepolizumab for Asthma "I'm 64, was put on disability at 62 due to severe cough asthma and reflux. Prednisolone helped a bit, but a skeleton X-ray showed severe loss of bone structure. Was given first Dupixent for 3 months, no improvement, then Nucala. I've been on it every 4 weeks since. Asthma and cough are gone, but I produce a lot of snot and have some hair loss. All in all, so far I give Nucala 9 out of 10 in my personal opinion. PS. Still use Flutiform inhalation in the morning, and I have some issues with hypertension and prostate that I medicate with pills and yearly check-up (Norway national healthcare system)."

Mepolizumab for Asthma, Maintenance "I have been having monthly Nucala injections for about seven years now, after previously suffering with severe asthma and bronchiectasis. I have never smoked once in my whole life. The effects of the Nucala were a wonderful relief, almost like a miracle. I was able to live a normal life, except if I caught flu or a bad cold. I do not know what has happened to cause these chest problems to become suddenly so severe in the space of one month - wheezing, coughing up every 30 minutes through the night, and breathlessness, even though I am on steroids and antibiotics. I just hope and pray that after my next Nucala injection, I will be well again."

Mepolizumab for Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis "Late onset asthma about 18 years ago, polyps, heart valve problems, high eosinophilia, pericarditis for over five years. Given Nucala for both severe asthma and Churg-Strauss. Has helped wheezing and breathing. Have noticed attacks, immune, and weakest part of body. Constant bladder infections, headaches, sore throats. Am exhausted all the time. In stage two of disease. Like any other meds, helps one thing, causes another. Have had nine times, hoping to put disease in remission."
